Bought this CD-player together with the matching 120 watts Rotel anplifier and very happyvwith the set. This set - in combination with my Spendor A6 speakers - are capable to produce real sound in almost any genre. Slow jazz, electric blues, a salsa band, you name it and it will give you good results. Just didn't try classic music like opera and philharmonic orchestras, so don't nail me on that. Great value for money.

After reading the reviews the positive ones out weight the negative one. Unfortunately the negative reviews were accurate. I am not sure what Rotel is doing with their cd players but this one as other have written is dull and lifeless. The highs are okay just not as good as my 14 year old Music Hall 25.2 cd player. The differences are very audible. The mid band is dull and recessed. The bass is awful as compared to my Music Hall. I agree with another reviewer that stated the bass sounded muffled. Almost like the microphone recording the drums was not on. On one song with a very good bass solo I could hear the plucking and the decay of each note on my Music Hall. Not so with the Rotel. All is not lost as of yet. I am using the Rotel as a cd player. This player has Coax output that I am going to my other integrated amp that has a Coax input. I am using the integrated amp with a much older Rotel RCD-1072 as a transport. As a transport the older Rotel is very good. I am going to try the Rotel CD14 in the same configuration. If it sounds as good or better I am going to keep it and use it as a transport. You may be asking why I would do this. I bought the CD14 as an demo for 50% off the new $799 MSRP. If it works well it will be cheaper than the Audiolab 6000CDT being sold for $549. I can agree that the cd tray is very thin and looks frail. It is only about 1/3 the size of my Music Hall and older Rotel cd players. The cd barely sits in the tray. The cd player takes a good 30 seconds to start up. I am not sure if it is running self-checks. My last irritation is the standby light. If you leave the CD14 in standby you will be greeted by a very bright red led that cannot be dimmed. Rotel could have used a less bright red led as we are all used to having a red standby light on most electronics. If you like to listen to music in a semi-dark or dark room the blue "on" led light is even brighter and more distracting. I will update this review when I have tried out the CD14 as a transport. I will post pictures in few days to highlight the tray and light problems. Otherwise I cannot in good conscience recommend this cd player as a cd player to anyone that has better stereo equipment.

I used my previous Rotel CD player for 26 years so I was looking for Rotel in particular. The sound quality is outstanding. The full spectrum comes through. The remote has a complete range of function buttons. The only point that I'm not thrilled about is that the disc tray seems a bit flimsy. Otherwise, an excellent machine at a reasonable price.

The Rotel CD player is the best you can get. I never had loved a CD player like I do this one. It is just so slick and easy to use. Your CD's will sound much better on this and it even plays CD's that skip without any difficulty. The price is high, but if you are a CD collector an/or if you have a lot of CD's this unit is for you. I strongly recommend this player to anyone.

At $600.00 bucks you start to enter the land of true hi-fi.This is an item I would not recommend with a lower end system,it's for the 2channel stereo person who's got a fairly decent amount of $$$ invested.I also recommend you get a upgraded audioquest rca/digital cable that's in the ballpark of $150.00 plus to get the full potential out of it.

Solidly built and attractive, the Rotel CD14 has found a home in my main stereo rig. After several failures of another (unnamed) brand, I returned to Rotel who has a long history of making high quality, good sounding players. I've used it both as a transport and as a single box player and find it quite enjoyable in both. My listening is primarily jazz and rock and it performs quite well with both. As others have pointed out, the tray is quite flimsy and my hope is it will stand up over time. Otherwise construction is solid.

Compare to my good old Sony carousel player from 1995, somehow the Rotel seems to be a bit muffled on the high frequency. as soon as I got it, I hook it up and play some jazz music that has many percussions on it. Sound is good and details. Then I remember that I still have my old player that has not been turned on for ages. I decided to do a side by side comparison. Using the same CD and tracks, same amp and same cabling, I plug in the Sony. I keep swapping the player between the two and tested with several CDs. The Rotel seems to be a bit muffled on the high frequency. I guess it's not for my taste. Have some friend listen to it while I did the comparison, and all agree that my Sony is still better sounding in the high frequency and overall sounding somehow. I decided to return the product after testing it for over a week.

Very happy to purchased this CD player made by reputable electronic company Rotel. Well made CD player, sturdy and you can tell by the weight and overall it was made with serious purpose to play your favorite music as intended. I bought this as open box as I know the reliability having owned one. Not only that, your cd will sing.

    ROTEL CD14 -- Keeping CDs Relevant--Awesome

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

Purchased this on line from Best Buy and after comparing the CD14 to the CD-1572, I realized that these 2 units have identical specs. The S/N ratio is the same, the THD is the same and the essential construction is the same. The difference lies in the power supply. The $200 differential is due to the torroidal power plant in the 1572 versus the traditional plant in the CD14. To be clear, ROTEL makes some of the best in-house torroidal power plants in the entire hifi industry and their MICHI and 1500 series integrated amps underscore that quality. However, before they built the torroidal power aupllies, they built a well deserved reputation with conventional power and the CD14 is the result of 4 decades of that expertise. Additionally, the $200 savings can be used for A-1 cables, etc. Since I employ a Panamax power conditioner, the CD14 is an excellent compliment to my huge CD collection. Listening to the CD14 while writing this review recveals a clean, uncolored interpretation of the music source. If you do not have SACDs this unit is $ to $ the "Best Buy" regardless of price.....
