Samson Go Mic issues

The Samson Go Mic Mobile Lavalier Wireless mic system is a great concept. But here are some of the issues that I had while using it on a Canon 5DMkii DLSR.
During an interview, the audio cut out. A Samson factory support rep I spoke with said that it is possible that in a Wifi atmosphere that it is possible that the signal will get interference from 2.2-2.4 Gigahertz signals. Additionally, if the mic is not on a belt or in the open and under any clothing or at a distance to far from the camera receiver the signal cuts out.

Samson’s lapel microphone system is definitely worth it for any person who is unable to remain stationary in front of their camera while they record. The wireless range is listed at 100 feet, and while I didn’t test it at quite that distance, it did not have any trouble recording clear audio at any distance appropriate for filming / podcasting. It did a good job at recording through one or two walls. Line of sight eventually does become an issue, but I don’t think that this is truly a problem as the intended use is for video (where the subject is in view – which will definitely be less than 100 feet).
The system is designed with the iPhone in mind, but it will work for android devices, just not by using the USB C cable. I had read that users of the Samsung Galaxy Note 8 were able to record digitally (using the USB C cable), but I did not have any success with the native Samsung camera or voice-note apps. Android users will instead need to connect the receiver using the 3.5mm audio cable – which works well. The main difference being that you must disconnect the 3.5mm cable when playing back the video/audio as the phone will think you have headphones attached (due to the cable being plugged into the headphone jack).
The included lapel microphone works quite well and records clear audio (regardless of where on your shirt it is clipped). Even when it was attached to my shirt collar (tucked under my chin) the recording was perfectly clear. Though the microphone has a foam shield, it did not seem to block any background noise. I was able to hear footsteps, people talking in the background, and a fair amount of wind when recording outside.
I appreciate that the system comes with a nice case, but I was slightly bothered by the size. The case is designed to hold the lapel mic, the receiver, and also a full-size hand-held wireless microphone (the Samson HXD2) which is not included. The empty space for the full-size microphone almost doubles the size of the case. The full-sized HXD2 is nearly $100 on its own - and at that price, it should be the device that comes with the larger case. Or, perhaps there could be a free case that we could request by mail once we have purchased both. That way, those who only want the lapel microphone can have an appropriately small and portable case. I understand this is a small complaint, but it feels as though they are trying to push customers into spending the extra $100 on the full-sized HXD2 microphone.
Ultimately, I feel as though this kit is quite useful as it comes with everything you need. Not only does it do a great job at recording clear audio wirelessly to your phone, but it also comes with the attachments required to mount your phone to a tripod – making good use of the excellent cameras contained within most cell phones these days. Or, if you have a DSLR, you can use the system to record wirelessly to that device. All of the bases are conveniently covered.

Nowadays a lot of smartphones come with high-end cameras that produce excellent quality images. The only issue of using mobile devices is the ability to capture good quality audio. For video production purposes, you want to capture a clear representation of people speaking and separate them from the distracting background noise. A solution to capturing high-quality audio is the Go Mic Mobile from Samson.
With this kit, everything is included to start a pro-level production studio. It consists of all connection cables: the iPhone lighting, micro USB, USB-C type, audio Aux, charger, a Receiver, a microphone, and a carrying case. The set up is fast and easy. First, clip the receiver to a mobile phone and connect the receiver to a smartphone using the appropriate cable (my phone uses the USB-C). After that, attach the lavalier to the transmitter. Lastly, after turning on the receiver, push the power button on both the receiver and the transmitter to pair.
My daughter is in high school, and she uses the Go Mic Mobile for her journalism assignments. The receiver works with two channels. I will purchase the Samson wireless handheld microphone for when my daughter needs to do an interview. Thanks to Samson Go Mic Mobile, now she great pro-quality video without the bulky and expensive equipment. It is effortless to use, mobile (grab and go system), and pro-level quality production. My daughter loves it. I use it for my online videos, and I am satisfied with all my videos. Now I do less post-production since there is no need for video and audio syncing, the device allows recording of the audio into the video. It doesn't pick up all the background noise compared to using just the smartphone. It is an excellent product for travelers, bloggers, journalist or anyone who wants to record pro-level quality videos.

I create cooking videos and having a lavalier microphone was on my wish list to keep the vocals consistent. Along comes the Samson Go Mic Mobile. I record on a camcorder not a mobile phone but the clever group at Samson made this product usable by mobile phones, camcorders and DSLRs. It took a bit of playing but I got the mic locked in so it works great. I ended up turning the gain all the way down and setting the volume on the receiver to about 1/2 way. If I go with more volume then I'm pegging the meter on the video and getting distortion. I've recorded about an hour of video and it has been perfect except for one video where the sound dropped for about a second. It was definitely a shame but hopefully it's very rare. The majority of my work is done just a few feet from the receiver. I did do a quick distance test and it worked at least 20 feet away AND through a door.
Let me touch upon the hardware and packaging. The receiver feels solid but small and light. It has a rechargeable battery that's supposed to last 7+ hours. That's plenty enough for my needs. The receiver takes two AA batteries. I put in a pair of rechargeable batteries and other than the one drop mentioned above, it worked fine. The package contains all the wires and connections you'll probably need. It has cables to connect to Lighting, mini usb, 3.5mm and more. By default the receiver comes installed with the mount to fit on a mobile phone. The package comes with a teeny screwdriver that allows you to take off that mount and put on a hot shoe mount which is what I use for my cameras. So cool. The only issue I had was when I was using the camera hot shoe for my light. I then had to figure out how to mount the receiver. I was able to drop it in the hand grip which is fine if I'm not hand holding the camera. I'll need to figure out something more flexible though and it doesn't seem to be a fault of Samson.
Bottom line, this microphone is what I've been wanting and definitely delivers.

==== Summary ====
The Samson Go Mic Mobile is a great mobile recording device with excellent audio quality, flexible mounting & connection options, and long battery life. It is ideally suited for YouTubers, Vloggers, and both casual- and prosumer-level audio & video productions.
*Pros:
-Flexible & versatile audio connections available.
-Comes with all necessary accessories & tools to get started recording right away.
-Offers various mounting options for different recording equipments.
-Both the Go Mic Module Receiver & microphone Transmitter units are lightweight & easy to carry around.
-Comes with a nice, solid carrying case.
-Recording quality is great - much better than smartphone microphones.
-Receiver range is good & didn't drop any sounds (tested up to ~40 feet).
-Works with iPhone seamlessly.
-Long battery life.
*Neutral:
-Losing line-of-sight results in slightly garbled audio.
-"USB Audio" function didn't work on any of my Android smartphones & their default "Camera" apps.
-The charging port on the GMM isn't USB Type C but the older mini-USB connector.
*Cons:
-Compatibility with Android phones & their default "Camera" app is poor.
==== Design ====
The Samson Go Mic Mobile (GMM) is a cleverly designed recording equipment that is simple to operate, lightweight, and very versatile.
The adjustable mounting arm extends widely enough to easily clamp onto big phones such as my Galaxy S9+ and Galaxy Note 4. The rubber grips on the mounting arms offer secure holding power and the rotating knob locks tightly together the mounting arms to the attached device.
Thanks to the numerous accessories & tools included in the box, one can also attach the GMM to a tablet, a tripod, and a cold shoe adapter.
The rubber Power Button, which can also be used to pair the GMM with up to 2 different transmitters, is very tactile and responsive (one pre-paired transmitter is included in the box).
All the other control sliders on the GMM work equally well and are frustration-free.
I say that the Samson GMM is very versatile because it can connect up to 2 different transmitters, supports 3 different Analog Outputs, supports digital USB Audio for higher-quality audio recordings, and it can even output sound to an audio device such as headphones and speakers.
When it comes to compatibility with my phones, however, I had mixed results.
When I paired the GMM to my Galaxy Note 4 running 6.0.1 Marshmallow and used the default "Camera" app, I was not able to get any audio recordings. I had tried with both the 3.5 mm audio cable & the microUSB-to-microUSB cable through the USB Audio port on the GMM.
I also received no audio on my Sony Xperia XZ2 Compact (Android Pie 9.0) from its default "Camera" app when using the microUSB-to-USB Type C cable.
On my iPhone SE, recordings worked perfectly with the microUSB-to-Lightning cable and the default "Camera" app.
On my Galaxy S9+, audio recordings only worked when I used the 3.5 mm audio cable in the default "Camera" app.
On the Android side, choosing the correct third-party app that supports USB Audio recording is very important. It would've been nice if Samson had some app suggestions in the User Manual.
When it comes to charging the GMM receiver, it is done via a mini-USB cable and the AC adapter, both of which are provided. It would've been nice if the charging port was either microUSB or USB Type C instead. Still, it's no deal-breaker.
Connection strength between the GMM receiver to the transmitter was strong and instantaneous. I never once lost connection between the two during my video & audio recording sessions.
The transmitter, which runs on two AA batteries, is lightweight and easy to handle. The omni-directional Lavalier microphone, which connects to the transmitter, worked very well and recorded high-quality audio free of echos, static, and other noise.
Besides the issues of compatibility on some Android phones, the Samson GMM is a great product that offers flexible mounting options and direct connections to smartphones and other A/V devices for high-quality mobile video & audio productions.
==== Functionality & Performance ====
When testing the performance of the Samson GMM, I used my iPhone SE and my Galaxy S9+ with their respective default "Camera" apps.
On both devices, my voice sounded very clear and robust with no digital noise. It was clean, rich, and very clear. The quality of the recordings from the Samson GMM, when compared to smartphone microphones, was much, much better and of higher quality. There's simply no comparison. If you're serious about producing quality videos for YouTube or vlogging, you definitely want something like the Samson GMM. Your audience will appreciate the higher fidelity audio.
When it comes to transmitter range, I tested up to ~40 feet away from the receiver. At that distance, the audio recording quality was excellent and sounded fantastic. It sounded as if I was sitting right next to my smartphone.
I also tested the GMM by purposely losing line-of-sight from the receiver. When the distance between the GMM and the transmitter was below ~25 feet, the audio recording continued to work with no drop-outs. At about ~40 feet away, however, the audio recording had some garbled noise when line-of-sight was lost.
Overall, I'm very happy with the quality of the audio recording capability of the Samson GMM system.
==== Closing Thoughts ====
Despite some compatibility issues with some Android phones, I still like the Samson GMM a lot. Once I found the right combination of which type of audio connection to use & the appropriate recording app on my smartphone, producing high-quality audio and video was super simple and consistent. Samson has created a unique, versatile, and powerful audio recording system that I can easily recommend.

Great Tool To Make Professional Sounding Videos

The Samson Go Mic Mobile Lavalier system is a great step forward for those of us trying to make professional sounding videos right from our mobile phones.
When I make my YouTube videos, I used to rely on the microphone that’s built into my phone and the sound is never optimal. It bounces back and forth from left to right channel and gets louder or quieter based upon where I am standing in relation to the phone. Now I’m able to record video the exact same way on my phone, but the sound is picked up from the Samson Go Mic instead of my phone’s mic. The Go Mic is attached to my shirt, so it goes where I go and the sound remains even and clear. It also cuts down wind noise quite a bit. Such an improvement! I’m so glad that this product is out there for people like me. The mic transmits the signal to the receiver, which clamps to my phone. The receiver also has a screw hole in it so the whole thing can attach to a tripod.
The package comes with everything you need to make it work. It has cables for digital recording from ios or Android phones, as well as an analog cable to record through your phone’s headphone jack. I wasn’t able to get the digital cable to work with my Android phone, and the instructions gloss over how this may or may not work without a third party app, but it records just fine through the headphone jack. I wish the instructions were a little more thorough. After all, this product is intended for non-professionals who could use all the info they can get. If you are able to use one of the digital recording cables (which are usb type-c and lightning), you can hook up a pair of headphones for monitoring which is great.
Everything included comes in a very nicely made, compartmentalized case which looks like it will hold up well over time.
I wish this mic had a companion app which monitored audio gain for quick adjustments. There are third party apps out there that can do this, but it would be nice if Samson had its own.
Overall I am super happy with this mic and look forward to using it often.

If you're a vlogger or YouTube that need to get really should get this wireless lavalier system. I got the opportunity to checkout the Samson - Go Mic Mobile Lavalier Wireless Microphone System. Out the box you get the transmitter with mic, the receiver, charger and a variety of cables to connect the receiver digitally via USB or through analog 3.5 audio jack. The receiver has a built in batter that is charged through USB-B cable which is included. The transmitter is powered by 2 AA batteries. You will have to pair the transmitter to the receiver before being able to use them. I found that easy done. I used this on both my DSLR setup as well as my cell phone mounted on a mini tripod. Both ways, I had clear and crisp audio from the speaker/host. This would be great for anyone doing vlogs and have to commentate or have clear sounding speakers while recording. I've used higher end systems and this one works just as well.

This lav mic set is ready for almost any setup: camera mount, shoe mount or clamp on a smartphone. I used it with my Android phone and recorded audio while using my dslr to shoot. The audio was good and I was able to get ranges from 40+ feet away with line of sight. The quality of the audio was good too. Though, with this setup, you could use a different mic as well. The mic itself came with a windscreen, which may not sound like much, but are so helpful in the outdoors. The quality of the audio may not be the absolute best, but it's still good, and you could always upgrade the mic if you wanted to. The transmitter and receiver are well made and easy to use. And it comes with the necessary cables to connect to aost any device. It also comes with a nice case to house all the pieces.
Pros: loads of connection options, easy to use, good recording quality, good range
Cons: mic could be better, but is uogradable

This little lav was a lifesaver. We attached it to a video camera . It worked great! the only reason I'm not giving it 5 stars is that we had some dropouts that seemed to happen when I moved around (I was wearing the transmitter attached to my pants. So, that was solved by putting the transmitter on my lap.
The quality of the sound was excellent and the mic was easy to set up. I recommend this Lav set. It comes with all sorts of connectors so you can use it on an iphone, android device, tablet, or a camcorder.

I was fortunate to find a wireless mic system at the start of the covid-19 pandemic.
It took only a few minutes to understand the instructions and the mic has been working flawlessly since our first use. My wife use this mic daily to teach Yoga on Zoom.
Sound quality has been great. Both the charge and batteries are long lasting. Quite professional. Easy to use. Price was good too.
We have received many compliments.

Environmental Interference on Mic
::Setup ::
It was very easy out of the box to setup as all connections and unit is mostly charged. You will need to have 2 AA batteries for the belt pack Transmitter readily available as it does not come with it. Afterwards it is pretty much plug in play onto your device of your choice. I used my Note 8 and it connected , worked seamlessly.
::Mic::
The Mic works great indoors with the range being very impressive. I was able to go impressive distance without distortion. However when outdoors the mic is very perceptible to high winds / environmental noise so be sure to accommodate for that with voice recording software. The Mic itself is a simple one, with a clip that attaches easily to clothing that wont move / fall off. However the teeth on the clip is very sharp. I would caution on clipping directly to clothing as it will leave a mark or may ruin the nice fabric. A nice feature that I really liked was including a hidden tool inside the belt pack transmitter that allows for quick and easy adjustment to the gain. This came in very handy for windy days.
::Battery Life::
In my situation it felt as if the battery life was average. I am not sure if it was due to me testing for hours on end without a break or using software the amplify the Mic which results of more power usage. I decided not to remove a star on this as I do not feel "normal" usage would have an issue. One recommendation, I would NOT use rechargeable batteries. For some reason it caused odd interference with my belt pack transmitter or at times performance drops. I would recommend using reliable / good AA batteries.
::Accessories::
I was very impressed with the accessories it included along with the hard case to help protect your equipment. It even includes a section for a future long neck Mic if you decide to purchase one (Not Included. You are able to mount to a smartphone, mount to a tablet, mount to a Tripod and Mount as a cold shoe adapter.
Overall I have really enjoyed this product and would recommend it to anyone looking for a mobile Mic that has adaptability to whichever device you use.

Needed a mic to capture audio on some videos I was recording on my iPhone. Great quality for the price. Easy to use and set up. Receiver stays charged. The only bad thing I’ve discovered is the placement of the power button on the wireless transmitter. I’ve accidentally hit it a time or two while adjusting the transmitter mid recording and turned the power off (it’s a push-button design). But other than that, it’s been an incredible purchase and one I’d make 10x over.

Great for meetings. Easy to setup and configure. Used to send our guest speakers voice to a set of Logitech Z407 Speakers. I was a bit nervous dropping over $100 on a microphone. Especially when you can get cheaper ones on amazon. But WOW did this mic surprise me. It's wireless so you are more flexible moving around or being far away. And the mic quality is really good, better than I thought it would sound. And the fact that it works on all phones and cameras is awesome. It's really easy to use and I love that it came with a traveling case. Overall It's really good if you're willing to spend the money. Bottom line: a DSLR flash shoe mount was 100% afterthought. The remote module uses a very light duty that just STICKS on the top of the shoe mount. They is no way to actually attach it so it won't come off. Further, it is off center so becomes unbanced when mounted. That wouldn't be an issue if there was a formal mount and not a two piece so plastic holding each other together by friction.
Otherwise setup was quick and easy. Very intuitive if oyu hae ever used any remote systems. The camera linkage works and sounds quality is neutral Will continue to play with it the next few days but sadly will likely return this since I want both good audio (this unit) and good video (DSLR).
Now if you just want to mount to a cell phone with its poor video quality over a more then a few feet, this is definitely a good buy.

This was exactly what I was looking for. I am a marketer who frequently shoots video with my phone and a stabilizer and I needed a microphone to add to my kit. The microphone quality is good, audio is clear and I didn't notice much (if any) rustling-around sounds from the mic against the interviewee's collar, although I had the microphone positioned outside of their shirt so I can't speak to how it sounds if tucked underneath. The only reason I'm giving it 4 instead of 5 stars is that I wish there were other ways to secure the receiver. I needed to be able to attach it to the handle of my stabilizer and ended up wrapping it around with electrical tape. Some kind of elastic band or other options for attaching the receiver would be nice but I like the functionality of this mic so much that I'm willing to work around it. Overall, this was a great buy!
