Great display. Pivot on stand has a little play

So far so good. Just purchased this a few days ago and it’s a gorgeous display. I like the USB hub within the monitor. I’m still getting about 500Mbs at 1Gb internet. No need for any external docks makes for a very clean desk. My only complaint is that the pivot of the monitor is rather wobbly. It doesn’t stay in place and is rather finicky. It has a good bit of play. Other than that it’s pretty solid but I wish there was more rigidity in the pivot

use a good cable and be willing to power cycle

Nice monitor, easy on the eyes, works well with a Mac. Be careful about the quality of the thunderbolt cable: even with the best cable I have, sometimes the monitor loses connectivity, and I have to power it off and on again. That’s the worst of it, otherwise no problems.

Fantastic Display with Poor Software

The display looks fantastic and has excellent speakers for a monitor which makes it ideal for productivity. However, there are software quirks that makes this monitor difficult to recommend at full price.

Great monitor, but it doesn’t turn off. Something isn’t working internally. I cannot access the menu buttons to turn off. I have to unplug from the back.

This is used for work and for my music. Picture is great, hook ups are so good too as there are many ports. If you have a Mac, this is for you! Even if you have windows. Best Monitor I've had so far in my Life.

Unreliable and buggy Thunderbolt monitor for Apple

To be fair, the pitcure quality is outstanding and the setup was easy. I was using the monitor with an Apple Studio. Very early I experienced the setup and connection overlay windows freezing on the active screen. The only way to disengage them was to unplug the monitor as the power button lost functionality. Also experienced the display freeze upon waking the computer up from sleep. Experimented by hooking up my old HDMI monitor which worked fine. Again, I needed to unplug the monitor to have it function again as the power and other buttons were unresponsive. Spoke to Samsung Tech who did a “hard reset.” That seemed to work for a few days. Downloadable firmware updates on the Samsung site did not help resolve the issues. Though I’m a Samsung fan, I cannot recommend this monitor for those using with Apple products. I purchased a new monitor, different brands, that works flawlessly. I am going to try hooking this up to a PC setup - I’ll update the review if things improve.

Purchased two units. BOTH were defective and did not even power on (confirmed by geek squad). This is very rare and highly troubling - AVOID this model.

I analyzed each and evey one of the 8,294,400 pixels on this monitor. Not only do they all work, theyre all beautiful. This monitor has great resolution and works exactly as expected. Im very pleased with its performance.

Don't Buy for Triple Display Daisy Chain!

Purchased 3 of these to daisy chain and create a cleaner desk setup. I could daisy chain two monitors but the third one never works. I switched positioning of the monitors and every time the third monitor in the daisy chain fails to have any picture. Manual does not mention this limitation and Samsung support was useless and they insisted my top of the range Dell Precision 5770 and 16" M2 MacBook Pro didn't have the capabilities to output to 3 monitors (they do!)

The monitor's power button doesn't turn it on!

Great monitor when it works, otherwise, it's terrible. The monitor doesn't power on when laptops connected via Thunderbolt cable go to sleep. Pressing the power button on the monitor doesn't turn on the monitor even when the laptop is restarted. Unplugging the Thunderbolt cable from laptop and then pressing the monitor's power button does nothing. Only unplugging and replugging the power cord on the monitor turns on the monitor.

Affordable Studio Display Alternative
Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.
I was considering purchasing an Apple Studio Display to go with my M2 Pro Mac mini, but then I found this display and realized for the price of a Studio Display, I could buy two of these instead and still have money left over for a good dual monitor arm to mount them, which is exactly what I did. Display quality is excellent for the price and the Samsung S80TB serves as a better Thunderbolt hub since it provides more connectivity AND the ability to daisy chain other Thunderbolt peripherals unlike the Studio Display. My only gripe is having to deal with the typical matte display rather than the glossy displays I prefer on my Apple products, but that's a minor aesthetic gripe, along with also not having the ability to control screen brightness and monitor speaker volume using my Apple Magic Keyboard. However, it's a small price to pay for an awesome dual 4k monitor setup.

Exceeded Expectation&Perfect for Content Creation

I purchased this monitor for photo, video editing, and skin tone matching for my professional video calls. It's size pretty much matches the size of the Odyssey G7 4k IPS.
I was concerned about Samsungs quality control, but I had no dead pixels and the color accuracy is calibrating to P3-DCI at 97% using my Spyder Data Color X Pro. I ended up turning on HDR and also was EXTREMELY impressed by SDR and HDR. I could not be happier with the monitor. This is the PERFECT Content creation monitor.
The brightness on HDR was around 937 or 977 nits (I forget exactly), but very cool. This monitor had a Thunderbolt 4 that you could chain a second S8. I have the Display Port on my PC and the TB4 on my Mac.
I had no IDEA how over-saturated my G7 was. Tweaking skin tones on the S8 made me super confident about what my image looks like on my client's screen, and for editing, I can't imagine living without it.
To be clear, this is NOT a gaming monitor. Get the Odyssey of your choice for gaming.

Bad for dual display setups!
Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.
These monitors have a bug where they return the same EDID UUID, which causes MacOS to randomly swap their positions, since they are indistinguishable. As of 3/7/2023, Samsung reports there is no firmware update to fix this. They seem fine for a single display setup, but avoid this model if you are buying dual displays.
