Not pleased with the performance of this device at all. The soundbar constantly loses connection from the TV via the HDMI cable. Then it will randomly connect via Bluetooth, ok its own mind you the randomly will turn the TV on days later and it’s connected again. Not happy with this device and alos the totaltech support is nonexistent.

      Hi Colton,

We appreciate you sharing your feedback and detailing the issues you are experiencing with the HDMI connection of your soundbar to the TV. You may first want to check the cable connection of the soundbar to the TV or external device to ensure it is secure, and properly connected to the correct port. You should also check for any potential damage to the cable which may be causing intermittent connection issues and swap to a different cable if necessary.

In addition to checking the connections of the soundbar, please make sure your soundbar is using the latest firmware version (v.1010.1). Updating the firmware on your soundbar gives you all the benefits of the latest improvements. You can update your firmware by using a USB device or via the SmartThings App.

Should this not resolve the issue, you may also want to initialize your soundbar by pressing the - and + (volume) buttons on the side of the soundbar at the same time for at least 5 seconds. The light indicator on the front of the soundbar will blink 4 times and the soundbar will be reset. Please know, this will reset all settings on the soundbar back to default; any sound adjustments will need to be performed again.

I hope these tips help! Should you ever have questions or need additional assistance, please call us at 1-800-SAMSUNG (ask for Soundbars), available 8AM - 12AM EST, 7 days a week.

    Open-box Beware

I recently purchased the Samsung 3.1.2 soundbar with high expectations and thought I could get excellent value by purchasing the open-box excellent condition. By Best Buy's standards, open-box Excellent looks brand new (no cosmetic wear), includes all original parts/accessories and typically contains original packaging. In my instance, this couldn't be further from reality. The soundbar and subwoofer were placed directly in a massive box with no surrounding packing save a few pieces of thin bubble wrap. Upon taking the items out, I noticed that the soundbar had some considerable dents (likely from the poor packaging), the subwoofer cloth was ripped all along the bottom, and had noticeable scratches on the top and sides. It was completely missing the Wallmount Kit and had no user-guide/instruction manual. Overall this was a shockingly disappointing performance from Best Buy. I knew I was assuming some risk by the open-box excellent condition, but this was downright misleading based on their published open-box standards. I was very excited about receiving the speaker, and would imagine it would be nice given a good condition. Hopefully my experience can help someone else with their decision making process.

The RTINGS.com review of this soundbar is a good guide, but they didn’t test many features or settings (to best standardize their testing regimen) that can greatly sway one’s impression on the soundbar, including some points they docked this soundbar on. WHY I CHOSE THIS SOUNDBAR: Samsung has been on the up and up with soundbars and they’re definitely value priced. The HW-Q700A lacks the side firing speakers like the Sonos Arc soundbar, but I don’t have the best room to take advantage of such features as I have open walls to the side. I live in a small studio condo and I wanted my entertainment setup to look as sleek and minimalist as possible. This meant sacrificing the idea of using a BluRay player to feed uncompressed Dolby Atmos or DTS-HD Master Audio signal to the soundbar. I wanted to go all streaming to minimize wires and extraneous hardware, which for the moment, at best, meant getting compressed Dolby Atmos or other object-based mixing. That in turn capped my desire to get more extravagant and pricier soundbar options, like the Sonos Arc or Sennheiser Ambeo. In other words, I felt the HW-Q700A was well matched to my room and intended source fidelity. This model was also the minimum level that could connect to Alexa by WiFi (as opposed to just Bluetooth like the Q600A). It doesn’t have Alexa built in like the Q800A, which looking back would’ve been nice as it would’ve allowed me to not need my Echo Dot. Finally, the Q700A already had a price and overall rated sound advantage over the Sonos Arc by having a sub that’s optional on the Arc. And with the pricing adjustments, the Q700A with the optional rear speakers can cost the same or a lot less than the Sonos Arc, which then makes the big picture no-brainer case for this bar over the Arc for most needs. TEST TV AND SOURCE: The TV was a 2018 LG OLED55E8PUA. This TV can decode Dolby Atmos in compressed form through the Dolby Digital Plus codec and output from its HDMI ARC (not eARC). Source was from LG TV or Apple TV 4K streaming device apps from streaming services: Vudu, Netflix, and HBO Max. Since it’s not a qualifying Samsung TV, I also can’t take advantage of the Q-Symphony sound integration with the TV’s built-in speakers nor use the TV’s mic’s to calibrate the soundbar to the room’s shape. It’s an interesting way to get folks into the Samsung ecosystem. STYLING AND FIT/FINISH: Outstanding. Boxy faceted edges in my eyes looks better against a straight-edged TV. The profile is nice and low that doesn’t occlude the view of my TV, although the latest LG OLEDs will require either wall mounting or some elevated platform to rise above the soundbar. The metal housing looks high grade even up close. SMARTPHONE APP and PHYSICAL REMOTE: This is outstanding to a level I can’t imagine being beat by any other. It’s very nice looking, controls a lot of features that the physical remote controls. The app currently cannot control the narrower-band specific EQ settings, the on/off toggle for the Acoustic Beam virtualization, and the upper front speaker gain. INPUT OPTIONS, INPUT DETECTION, CONNECTION STABILITY: The RTINGS.com article on this soundbar gave this a 10/10 because it has all the possible input options one would want. For TV owners with just an ARC port and want the uncompressed, this soundbar with multiple HDMI inputs (including eARC) and 4K passthrough would be advantageous over a single HDMI port Sonos if one wants to hear uncompressed Atmos from a UHD disc source with uncompressed Atmos/DTS:X signals. With this soundbar, one can run an output signal from a UHD disc player to the soundbar input and then backpass the 4K signal to the TV’s ARC port. For Sonos, because it has just one HDMI port, a TV with just ARC would need a HD Fury Arcana plugged in line from a UHC disc source, which some users out there isn’t always glitch-free. OVERALL SOUND: I think the high frequency is good, the mid-range punchy, and even the bar’s woofer-frequency response is authoritative. The voice comes along crystal clear so I only wonder how much enhancement the Active Voice Amplifier (AVA) in the higher 800+a Series would add. The bar seems to sound better for TV/movie programming than straight audio tracks compared to my Denon HEOS 7 using the same music sources. The only sonic deficiency is what comes out of the subwoofer. For one, while it’s deep and plenty powerful (enough to rattle and buzz my desk some meters away while playing Dunkirk), the subwoofer doesn’t give the deepest response. Moreover, I don’t think the bass is clean as if the speaker enclosure or something else is adding extraneous reverberation from what’s intended. This discourages using the highest bass equalizer setting. Nowhere near as clean or deep as my cheap Edifier S350DB subwoofer hooked up earlier. But it’s not bad considering all the other great things this bar does for the street price. If one wants the deepest bass in a Samsung bar, it’s a good reason to go for at least the Q800A (with a far heavier sub) and higher models. SOUNDSTAGE and SURROUND SOUND CAPABILITY: The RTINGS.com article that just tested in “Standard” DSP mode stated the soundstage is no wider than the soundbar. The soundbar has a DSP mode called “Surround” which greatly enhances the spatial effect well beyond the soundbar’s dimension (especially for some orchestral soundtrack music), but I bet one loses the most precise placement of object sound. Then there is the Acoustic Beam virtualization technology that has many tiny holes projecting different frequencies of sound upward at some angle to further enhance the surround sound and object placement; this wasn’t tested by RTINGS.com. On another Samsung soundbar, this Acoustic Beam feature had 28x2 tiny holes shooting at an 18-degree angle. Turning this on along with the Surround DSP mode really made the soundstage very expansive and mesmerizing. I haven’t really noticed serious overhead effects but didn’t expect so on a system that doesn’t include downfiring ceiling speakers, and my ceiling is 12 feet high. I heard 8’-10’ ceilings are OK for upfiring speaker effects. Only time I feel like something is coming from above is when it’s coming from everywhere like some orchestral soundtrack music. Maybe there should be a small LED on top to light up when overhead effects are projected to make us think we’re hearing something from above. Unlike the Sonos that just supports just Dolby Atmos, this soundbar also supports DTS:X and Dolby Atmos. REAR SURROUND SPEAKERS RECOMMENDED: With such aggressive pricing, I highly recommend to use the saved bucks relative to the competition to get the optional Samsung SWA-9500S wireless speaker kit if you like to get the true cinematic surround experience, which I have.

Samsung is obviously a huge player in the Home Theater market, and that recognition and market dominance comes with its perks, the biggest one being TV and device manufacturers ensure compatibility with your products. For me, this has been the biggest benefit of this Samsung Q700A soundbar. HDMI ARC works perfectly, and you get a passthrough input/output as well which some ARC-only amps and sound solutions don't provide. This means you typically lose 1 input on your TV. As mentioned, the Q700A advertises Dolby Atmos Audio and 4K Dolby Vision passthrough. It delivers but only on the passthrough port which will most likely be Input 1. Any input that is passing HDMI ARC back through Input 1 back to the Q700A will depend on your TV if they support Atmos or not. My TV does not, so the HDMI1 input/passthrough on the TV is a welcome upgrade. Also, the HDMI ARC and HDMI passthrough performance is excellent. I had a lot of issues with a Sonos Amp that was set to ARC that wouldn't keep settings as ARC, they would go to TV speakers frequently and this seemed to be a prevalent issue on Hisense's reddit page. With this Samsung sound bar, ARC seems to work perfectly, so the bulk of my review is based on this experience. Right now I am running my Apple TV 4K 2021 and passing through HDMI. Please note. If you are passing through HDMI you MUST change the input to HDMI. TV ARC you need to change the input on the TV itself and make sure the sound bar is set to TV ARC. I read some issues about the sub but I honestly felt it was too loud. I had to use the Samsung remote to reduce the sub down to -5 so it wasn't so active. Overall this is a great set, the only negatives is it makes you keep track of more remotes and I did notice the transitions between low sound dialogues and louder scenes were a bit jarring. Overall definitely recommend, especially because the ARC support is seamless between multiple devices like your cable box, PS5, Apple TV 4K, etc.

When setting up, the subwoofer would not connect to the main speaker. After 5 months of returning 3 replacement subwoofers and then the main speaker, it still won’t pair.. Samsung requested I mail all the repaired and replaced items another time for repair. It is now five months and counting without a working speaker system. I first set up the product past the returnable date from Best Buy, so it is covered under Samsung warranty.

Right from the packaging on this product to setting it up with my TV i did not had any issue s. The package was nicely packed. No damages. The product came with all accessories and also wall mount hooks which was a plus. I like the look the product. Very premium looking. Setup with my TV using the bluetooth was very easy. The TV detected the bar with no issues. I really love the sound this thing makes. Parts i love: are you can set it up easily. Also set up with different sound mode including gaming and surround sounds. It has direct in , Bluetooth and wifi connections. So multiple connections options depending on the devices you are connecting to. I connected this bar with my phone in few seconds. Very easy. Dolby atmos is great. The sound just immerse within and the whole room is just feels like theater with surround sound. One thing to note if you have a Samsung tv, The feature regarding using the surround sound if we have multiple Samsung devices is good. The remote is nice and you can control different connections and volume and sound options right through the remote. All in all i love the product so far. Its been a week i have been using this sound bar and so far no issues. I will be sure to update my review later with any other tips and suggestions. I will highly recommend this to my friends and family.

Add Symphony Sound to your Flat Screen

    Posted .

In a world of ‘thin’ and uninspiring sound coming from your modern flat screen, the Samsung Q Series Soundbar fills the void in a big and inspiring way. As TVs get bigger and thinner, their sound gets gotten progressively worse to the point where it really impacts the experience of watching movies, tv shows, and playing games in a negative way. When I bought my new Samsung Frame TV, I connected my previous soundbar from a major audio company, but it I just wanted something more. Then I got my Samsung HW-Q700A soundbar and I couldn’t be happier. The setup was super simple, I just connected the power cord to the soundbar and the included subwoofer and an HDMI cord to the eARC HDMI port on my TV and the soundbar. That was it. It just worked like magic. The Samsung TV one remote is able to control the volume controls and the soundbar automatically turns on and off with the TV. I’m able to adjust the soundbar settings through the SmartThings App on my smartphone, which makes it super simple and convenient. Sound quality is really good, especially the vocals in content. The voices come out super clear, way better than my previous sound bar and my full 5.1 sound system in my TV room which cost 5x more. Even though the voices come out clear, other sound content doesn’t get left behind either. Offering a complete and balance sound. The soundbar includes eARC which supports Dolby Atmos, which is the next generation of surround sound, adding a height element previously missing. When you hear Dobly Atmos content for the first time, it’s really something special. I will be purchasing the surround sound kit in the near future to complete the surround sound experience. The subwoofer offers low end extension, but is not super deep and/or thundering sound. I increased the subwoofer level in the SmartThings App and that helped, but this is the one area which could use some improvement. Bluetooth connected as simply as any other Bluetooth device and I didn’t experience any issues with connectivity. Tap and Play also worked without any fuss. Overall, Samsung knocked it out of the park. Offering a great sounding soundbar, that is fully featured and reliable with really good sound and incredible vocal clarity.

Received my Q700A sound bar earlier this week and my wife could not wait to unwrap and set it up. I have it paired with my newly purchased uhd tv to really get the best of both worlds and wow! Best sound i've heard. Love how it connects with Samsung SmartThings to give you full control of the speaker settings. The Dolby Atmos and dts:x have transformed how the movies, music and games played sound so realistic and immersed. The added subwoofer is a great touch to get that extra bass in music and rumble in movies. The last thing is going to be the quality of the speaker itself. I love the new outer shell of the speaker instead of having the bare fabric exposed and overall desing making it very subtle out in the open. Definitely recommending to my family and friends!

Huge thank you to Best Buy for a very easy exchange process. I went through 3 other soundbars looking for the right one. All I wanted was a soundbar and maybe a sub woofer if it came included, and I didn't want to pay over $700. I wasn't happy with the other 3 soundbars at all and I was able to exchange them easily. I went from $150, then $250, and $400. They were all top of the line brands and not horrible, but they just had no bass at all and the voices were pretty low even at 50% volume. This time I did a little more research and I realized what I need the soundbar to have is Dolby Atmos, DTS: X, & True Sound. I decided to go with this and I had a really good feeling I was going to finally find what I was looking for. This soundbar, honestly, is amazing!! Not only is the bass powerful and clean, but the voice clarity is also very clear. I catch myself saying "Ooh" sometimes when I hear the boom in music or movies. I can say so much more about this but it would be take too long. Just know that the Q700 & up has Dolby Atmos, DTS: X, & True Sound. I'm not sure about the Q650. I'm pretty sure the Q800 & Q950 are better or louder, but the Q700 is more than good enough for me. I don't even have a Samsung TV to take advantage of the Q-Symphony and other features, and it still sounds amazing!

I have been using mine more a year. It is a big upgrade over my TV’s sound quality. As to the sound quality, it sounds good when watching music videos via streaming on YouTube. If I cast a song from Amazon Prime music with HD sound over my WiFi it sounds better than YouTube. It doesn’t sound as good as my wired headphones using a headphone amp though.

I love my Samsung HW-Q700A 3.1.2ch Soundbar w/ Dolby Atmos / DTS:X. It came with remote control, AC/DC adapter and HDMI cable and wall mount kit for the soundbar as well as power cable for the subwoofer. I connected the soundbar to an older tv in my living room and used an Optical cable from my cable tv router to the soundbar. The optical cable was not supplied but it was easy to find and inexpensive to purchase. I am glad that the User Manual showed this as an optional wired connection. The sound is superb especially with the subwoofer output. I am hearing impaired and have had to have closed captioning to be able to understand the tv programming. After I got my Samsung soundbar with subwoofer connected I can hear everything without even wearing my hearing aids! My son who is also hearing impaired came in after I got it connected and now he wants to purchase a Samsung soundbar for the tv in his room. Excellent sound quality.
