Upgraded my Dell Inspiron 3793 Laptop

Despite Dell Support telling me that my 3793 laptop would not accept a 1 TB SSD for its present 256 MB C-Drive, I installed this drive and it works just fine. I was so pleased with how easy it was to upgrade, I purchased a second 1 TB drive to hold as a back-up in case I run into that Blue Screen of Death again. I figured this would be a much easier way to recover my laptop without having to reload my entire C-Drive again. BTW the Samsung free Magician software worked flawlessly in mirroring my existing drive.

One of the best drives for the money. It isnt as fast as the gen4 drive but if you can get it on sale you will be very happy. its still very fast and reliable storage and its hard to recommend any alternatives as this is one of the best gen3 drives on the market. although if you are able to get a gen4 drive with the same storage at a similar price there is no reason to buy this.

I installed the Samsung SSD 980 to increase the internal storage of my Windows 11 laptop. With a NVMe enclosure I initialized the 980, then cloned the existing drive using Macrium 8 (free), and swapped the drive in. Very quick and easy. The SSD 980 is a slim, single sided drive which runs cool and doesn't require a heatsink - important considerations for using in a slim laptop. the SSD 980 performs nicely, with good speeds for a gen 3 NVMe (although I have an 11th gen i7, the sole PCIE drive slot is PCIE 3). While I wouldn't recommend this for someone seeking cutting-edge speed, for most folks the SSD 980 is more than quick enough. Windows boot time is a matter of seconds, downloads, file transfers, and applications zip by quickly. This is a great drive for anyone with a laptop equipped with a smaller/slower NVMe looking for extra storage and speed. *The one star that I took off was due to the Samsung Magician app which would not recognize the drive correctly. I've seen that this is a common problem in laptops (and desktops) most likely due to being initially set up with a RAID controller. I would think that Samsung could have corrected this.

These SSD drives are incredibly powerful. Technically only 5% slower than the pro version but they do not put off as much heat. So that is what sold me on getting two of the regular 980’s vs 980 pro. I have a lot of heat coming out of my machine, I do not want more.

Overall it performed as I expected. I compared two other drives (Sabrent Rocket 1TB and XLR8 C3030 2TB) I purchased at the same time for the same build. They performed a little better in a CrystalDiskMark benchmark over the Samsung, but nothing significant to the naked eye. MSI Gaming Plus with an i7-10700k.

Finally the affordable Samsung NVME we have wanted

Since 2013, I have been rocking a 500 GB Samsung 840 SATA SSD in my primary system and its many iterations. It has served me well and still going strong to this day. It eventually became the oldest component in my system. I made sure full NVME port was on my current motherboard when I built it so I was ready when it was time to upgrade ... and thats exactly what I did with the Samsung 980. I wanted full NVME speeds, latest-gen NVME technology, and most importantly affordable. I was not/do not need the PRO-tier speed variety's. I had the SN550 and similar in my cart many times but never pulled the trigger for some reason. I really did not want to go with an "off brand" and I also wanted to order some place local just in case my motherboard did not play nice with it and I needed to return it. One day when I was about ready to purchase the SN550 or the SN750, I noticed this new affordable Samsung drive on the SSD page that sat in the middle price wise. I had no idea they were about to release one and I immediately searched review sites. The review sites and benchmarks showed what I hoped for. An affordable NVME drive that punches in the middle between high-end and the low-end drives. While it would have been nice to have DRAM, that seems like a niche situation for most users and Samsung compensated with a larger cache and faster Flash chips. Samsung arguably also has one if not the best Software suites to support their SSDs. Little to no bloatware, lightweight, easy to use and get the information you want. Compared to my old SATA SSD (that could hit max throughput for SATA), going full speed NVME is like fully opening the faucet when it felt like we were 2/3 or 1/2 open on SATA. No the jump is not as significant when going from Platter HDD to SSD, but there is a noticeable difference. Everything is just quicker. Loading Large/High Quality pictures and videos are the most noticeable for me personally. Final note: Im about 2/3rds capacity (temporarily storing some backup data) and there is no performance drop - which has plagued SSDs since they existed. This is with 10% Overprovisioning

The ssd works like its supposed to and does its fine. My motherboard top ssd slot didnt work so I added a pcie expansion slot for the ssd and it worked perfect. Just a quick heads up it does not come with the screw you need to screw it in to the motherboard.

One of the faster mainstream Gen3 NVMe drivers, it's classic Samsung quality and reliability. Software support and applications for drive migration / mirroring are the easiest to use and most useful inclusions. I used it as a main data driver for games in a recent client gaming computer and I don't have to worry about it failing.

Easy to install & great value. I first purchase the Samsung 980Pro then realized to lower price 980 non-pro. Only difference notice was lower speed read and right. My main reason for additional drive was to separate games (Halo, F1-22, Half-Life, etc) from main drive. It great value for sale price $79.99.
