Customers are positive about the Galaxy View's large screen size, ease of use, and battery life, with many praising its suitability for streaming movies and TV shows. However, customers are negative about its weight, and some find the price to be high. A few also mentioned issues with the lack of a USB port and some app compatibility problems. The stand is also a feature that customers appreciate.

Great Tablet for Wall Mounting

We bought this tablet to mount recessed into our wall and framed. It works great for this purpose. The weird stand attached to the back of this tablet is extremely easy to remove and does not void the warranty, as it's a simple click and lock to remove or re-attach. I can't comment on the battery life as ours is always plugged in. We love the "daydream" feature which serves to display our family pictures when the tablet isn't in use like a digital picture frame. The screen resolution is fine and the PPI is not distracting or bad.

This blew my mind when compared to the new iPad. Problem is it's bulky and doesn't work in portrait mode. This is a problem with messenger and hangouts. It will not mirrorcast unless your on YouTube or google chrome. I could airplay my iphone to it using a $3 app with no issues. Everything else is excellent: Hulu, Netflix, kodi, Mobdro. Battery last all day, very impressive! There is no case protection available except for carrying bags online. I added to key chain holders to case to place it on the back seats for the kids. The love it!

This beast was amazingly big but 2 big drawbacks.
1) The swivel stand in the back cannot be removed, making it cumbersome and awkward to hold.
2) Most apps aren't formatted to it yet, so even though the screen is huge, the apps are just a fraction of the screen size.
May be a better buy in time after updates.

Great thing to have if you need an extra media player.
I got this for my wife. We have a small kitchen no TV there.
It's like having a tablet and TV display in one. Strong vifi signal recommended. 18in display is great. Absolutely love it....
Check out YouTube reviews as well. I recently discovered that I can use my bluetooth headset to listen to my shows. PS4 Golds in particular.
Don't buy it if this is your only tablet in the house because it's not as portable as the smaller one like 10in for example.

Excellent Product for Media Consumption

With buying any product you have to know what purpoose the product will serve for you. When Samsung announced the galaxy view i know it would immediatley do something i wanted it to do. I wanted a TV in my kitchen but didn't want a TV that would have all sorts of cords showing and the Galaxy View has served that purpose. I use this tablet primarly for media consumption whether thtatis watching youtube videos, netflix, watchespn etc.
Pros: Standy by time (I own many samsung devices and i was very surprised at how little battery drain there is when the device is idiling. This is one of the best parts about this device)
Screen (Picture quality is awesome... Sure a QHD or UHD screen would be awesome but that would also drive the price up, however it doesn't need that high of a resolution as this isn't the type of device you will be using up close like a cell phone. When viewing this from a little bit away you will not see any pixels and the qulaity will look awesome)
Portability (This device is great to move around the house whether you are using it in the kitchen, using it as a 2nd TV in your living room or taking it with you to the toilet.
Performance (This device is not meant for productivity so don't be afraid of the midrange specs. This device performs smoothly with no lag for the purposes that it is advertised for.
Samsing UI (The new TV UI is a great way to easily swtich between the different media you will be using on this device)
Cons: Build quality (The tablet isn't made with any premium materials. This isn't that much of a big deal to me as again it isn't something you will be holding in your hand often so you won't really feel the plasticky build and i am someone who loves premium builds and it was not a deal breaker for me. I do wish the stand could go flat making it more optional to bring this tablet out of the house but how many of you really want to wield around a 18 inch screen.)
Chariging port (it would be nice if this charged via Micro USB but not a big deal at all that it doesn't.)
No Remote (Samsung has advertised this product as being something for media consumption. With that it would have been awesome if there was a dedicated remote for it to make the media viewing experience more enjoyable so you didn't have to constantly be touching the screen if you are watching something from across the room, hopefully they will think of this in version 2 if they choose to make one.)
Those are really the only negatives i find with this tablet.
Overall i have throughouly enjoyed my experience with this device... It has a great pitcutre quality, great battery life and idle time, smooth performance and easy to navigate UI. If this was a perfect world there would be a QUD or UHD screen and premium materials with the ability to make the stand flush but there are always some flaws with all products. In my eyes the Pros for me greatly outweight the cons. If you are looking for something to striclty view media on and do some web browsing and social media this is a no brainer. If you are looking for something for productivity than this is not the device for you.

It has excellent picture and sound quality. Speaker adjust loud enough to hear music in other rooms. Watching movies is crystal clear. It actually starts up and searches faster than my windows 8 laptop. It would be nice if it had rear camera as I am not into self photos, but not a deal breaker. It is a little large to carry around but the handle makes it easier to move. It is definitely not a device on the go to have with you. Playing games is nice for 2 people because of the size of the screen. I haven't seen anything yet that I don't like about the tablet. The only CON is that it is a little pricey for a tablet.

The Galaxy View was not on our review list. We when looking for a laptop but were disappointed at the cost to get performance. The Galaxy out performed in speed and ease for our specific web needs. Easy to setup, work with and best part is the free training or stop in guidance by Samsung if we have any questions - that is not part of the traditional laptop purchase scenario. It is big and does not fold and transport like a laptop. Accessories are not available yet, so we see it as more of a stay-at-home movie/web device - which is what we wanted.

It's a great size for watching movies, but can go beyond that. It's handy to keep on your kitchen island to look up recipes. I have ppor vision so the large size is great for readability. I also use it with the MobileSheets app to read sheet music. Also for such a large screen that battery life is pretty decent. Only downside is it's not super thin with the built in speakers and stand, but hey it has built-in speakers and a stand!

This is a very nifty addition to anyone's collection of gadgets. The screen resolution is fantastic for streaming and the size is just right. Anything you do with any other Android device you can do with this, only bigger. It makes typing much easier with the bigger onscreen keyboard and it fits nicely on your lap. All in a package that weighs less than a laptop! Makes it nice for surfing the web, watching video, or typing emails. You can take it outside to watch Netflix and other video sources and take it with you just about anywhere. My only complaints would be the stand, which is not removable, and the charger, which does not allow for the use of a portable charger via USB. It must be plugged in to an AC outlet. However, the battery life is great - I use it for several hours before it needs a charge. Overall, this is a great purchase and I would buy it again.

I absolutely love this large tablet. Wonderful screen quality as are all samsung products. That is all I will purchase. Great speakers also. Since the screen is so large, the pop up keyboard is full size, and even has the numeric keypad pad on the right side. Nice feature. Very responsive to touch. Even though it is large, it is lightweight enough to carry around if need be. I take it outside onto my deck and watch TV online outside!
This tablet solved a big problem as I couldn't invest in a new laptop right now, as it is older and doesn't have a nice screen, and not good sound. This solved those issues for not a lot of money. The best feature is the pinch zoom, so I can make it as large as I want, so it is like having a much bigger screen, but without the big footprint of a large computer, so it fits nicely on the desk in my kitchen. Perfect for all my needs. You will not be disappointed withe this large tablet. Speed is pretty good too, although that depends partly on your Internet service provider.

Best GM Screen Ever...

OK, full disclosure - I'm a tabletop game geek. This means that ever since tablets became a thing I've waited for a tablet that had the kind of screen real estate I wanted for reading books in PDF. The 18.4" screen of the Galaxy View is PERFECT for this application - even though it was meant for video streaming.
The Galaxy View was apparently designed with video content streaming in mind. This is why it's got the big screen, and the built-in stand, and the virtual button that takes you to a wall of streaming apps like Hulu, Netflix, etc. For this purpose it's GREAT. I use it in the kitchen to put on old episodes of "In Search Of..." while I cook. Brilliant. The sound is good enough though not remarkable, and for this purpose it's adequate.
Now, for what *I* use it for. PDF documents. Tabletop gaming is my passion, and thanks to the SD Card slot on this device (it only comes in 32GB internal storage at the moment) I have loaded a virtual library to take with me. D&D, Shadowrun, Earthdawn, etc. It's all there, and I can open the books in Acrobat and see facing pages at almost, but not quite, 100% size. This is what I've been waiting for all this time- with bookmarking abilities, I can reference my rulebooks and sourcebooks just as handily as if they were physical books. It's a wonderful thing.
Now, for the couple of things I think need a bit of caution. None of these are deal-breakers, in fact, none of them caused me to dock even half a star since they're not really the fault of the device as such.
1) Battery Life isn't nearly the 8 hours advertised if you're using the tablet as a media device. Maybe on Airplane Mode with the screen dimmed, but not while streaming Netflix over WiFi. I usually am near power when I'm using this as a gaming resource, so it's not as big a deal as it might be for this purpose. With a screen this large, you can't really complain about a 4-5 hour charge life.
2) Split Screen is GREAT but twitchy. It's nice to split-screen between two apps. The problem is the app has to support the split-screen, and many don't. This means you get 18.4" of phone app for some devices. Seems like a bit of a waste. Also, getting two apps to tile and stay tiled takes a LOT of trial and error and avoiding touching certain areas of the screen inadvertently.
3) Cases and Screen Protectors. Best Buy doesn't carry the screen protector for this tablet. They offer to install it for the standard Geek Squad fee if you purchase one elsewhere, but they really should carry it if they're going to carry the tablet. They also only carry one case for this device, and it lacks a shoulder strap. This has proven to be extremely inconvenient. Also, the permanent stand mounted to the back of the tablet won't lay flat by design, so it takes up most of the space in the bag, which has no extra pockets. NOT optimal.
NOTE: The stand built into this has a permanent curve molded into the stand. This is a two-position stand that either keeps the tablet upright like a TV, or angles it while laying flat like a book stand. It cannot - CANNOT - be flattened. This tablet can never lay down parallel to the surface it is placed on, and it will be a bit difficult to fit onto a bag or backpack because of it. That said, the stand functions GREAT in its two intended modes.
So, those things aside I love this tablet. The MicroUSB port allows me to plug in the Micro-Standard adapter dongle and throw on a flash drive, or a full-sized keyboard. Works GREAT. In fact, I have an old Dell multimedia keyboard with two USB ports, and I've tested plugging this in with a mouse and USB flash drive plugged into the keyboard and all worked. This means this tablet functions as a basic laptop when I need it to.
I love this. The price was right, and it's precisely what I needed for my particular application of technology. For under $500, and the amount of screen real estate? Great device. Now, if I'd only known about the AD&D Mobile version with cellular data, this would be GREAT for a road trip entertainment device for my kids.

I'm a bit older now and my eyes are not what they used to be. I purchased the "Samsung - Galaxy View - 18.4 - 32GB - Black" and I love it. It makes surfing and app use much more easier for me. My fingers are large as well and I had a difficult time touching those links in tiny fonts. That's not an issue with the Galaxy View. Now that I have all of my electronics by Samsung, I have my own little ecosystem and everything works together extremely well. It's a bit pricey, but when you look at all the time and frustration you save, then it's worth it.

I'm a gadget geek and ran across this tablet while visiting my local Best Buy. As with all Samsung products this one does not disappoint. Large screen size and great resolution and sound.
My only issues are that some of my game apps do not appear in full screen mode and you can't rotate the screen. Also the stand connected to the tablet make's it a bit hard to find a carry case. I did find one though via ebay. It would have been great if the stand could be disconnected or made where you could flatten it down to make a smooth back.

Watching movies/tv on this device is great. Hopefully next year's model will add more ram and higher screen resolution (2k). I have no complaints. I think Sammy put this particular device out there to see what kind of response it gets. Hopefully it will get enough support for Sammy to release another model next year with the aforementioned specs. For those wondering what else can this device do, we'll pretty much everything your GS6 can do on an 18.4 inch screen! Multi window and multi tasking is pretty smooth (noticeable slowdown with several apps running in the background). Has even less bloat ware than the GS6. Keyboard is amazing and full sized. Games run smoothly (all your favorite games). Portability is excellent. Device is not heavy at all considering its size. All in all not a bad first gen device, but certainly could have been better spec wise. Here's hoping for next year's model with better specs!
