The Samsung Gear Live is an Amazing product. However, I wouldn't give this product a full 5 stars, but I couldn't give a half star. The first review is somewhat true, the battery does not last long. However, in today's world most smart devices don't and should be looked at as minor flaw not a critical flaw. The charger however is my main complaint, it's odd is the best word to describe it. It feels very flimsy, and very easy to break, also you have to pay attention if it actually charging or not. Other than that the display is amazing crisp clear exactly what you would expect from Samsung. Also the design of the watch itself is nice, and unlike other smart watches that are blocky and odd looking. Last thing I would touch on is if your phone loses 4G reception it disconnects a lot of the main features from the watch. Which of course is understandable however, when you regain 4G coverage the watch does not sync back up without manual restart. I'm still testing out exactly what is happening with it, and hopefully I can come up with a better solution than a manual reset.

Almost perfect voice recognition to launch anything you need. Can last more than 24hrs so it will get you through your day. Read and write email and texts, quickly dismiss a call with an auto text reply. See weather at a glance. Anything that pops up in your top status bar on the phone will show on your watch as well. Plenty of apps available for any needs. I found Sports tracker app excellent for working out! Records your heart rate the whole time and much more. Quick compass right on the screen should you need it. CON: the only downfall right now is getting another charger cradle. Everyone's backordered and those that have it are 3x the cost. It will play music, but, I have to get headphones now to try it..a normal BT phone call earphone won't work. All in all Love it!

    Great device for first gen

Overall this device is fantastic piece of technology. It definitely has it's work cut out for improvements, but it does so many things well. First let me get the negatives out of the way. Battery life is about 1-1.5 days. Not great but not deal breaker. This device is first gen, and in the early days of Android wear development. As time goes on, they will optimize android wear and it will become better. This watch will definitely last you a fully day though, even with heavy use. The other things that's awkward is the charger set up. A lot of people were complaining about breaking the add on piece but I think all it takes is patience and being careful. Charging definitely could of been made easier through other ways but it's not a terrible thing. The screen, speed, and overall functionality of this device is great. I can read texts, full emails, and just about be notified of any notification I receive on my android. It's great! Another thing I absolutely love is being able to respond to texts straight from the watch with my voice. It's extremely accurate and the dictation is spot on. Very impressed with this. Great feature while I'm driving. There are definitely improvements that need to be made but for a first gen device, I'm very happy. Many folks are waiting for the Moto 360 and although that watch will definitely be amazing, it will most likely be very expensive. So instead of waiting, I went ahead and picked up the gear. You won't regret it! Just know you will have to charge this device daily. But we do the same with our phones so nothing to abnormal.

Not sure about the last guy who said he couldn't even get 6 hours. I bought it but it on at 68% went over 7 hours still at 38%. Now for overall features love the look and feel. The charge dock is kind of hard to use however I overlook that with how comfortable the watch is. Android wear is pretty awesome if you like Google Now. It is a great utility when driving or walking or just about anywhere. Once you learn the voice commands it feels like you have a personal assistant with you at all times. Also helps to extend phone battery not constantly taking your phone out to do the same thing. Overall I would recommend to anyone with an open mind that realizes Android Wear is in its infancy stage and it will only get better!

I am a fan of Samsung's product line and the Galaxy Gear Live has turned out to be no exception. It is a great watch and has gotten better as more firmware updates have come out. As with your phone, you need to find the apps that work for you. I have found great apps for SMS, Email and IM that allow me to read my messages and create a response via voice from the watch. HOWEVER BEWARE!! The charging mechanism of the watch relies on a cradle that snaps to the back of the watch. Mine lasted 4 months and Samsung refuses to replace it. The tabs on either side of the cradle are VERY fragile plastic and are guaranteed to snap off after time. Not only will Samsung not replace this (Even though a simple Google search shows this to be an engineering defect), but you will have great difficulty in locating a replacement. In my opinion, this is the best smart watch on the market. It is unfortunate that the charging cradle design is flawed.

    Watch great, charging cradle poor

    Posted .

I have had my Samsung Gear Live Smartwatch for 4 months. The watch itself is great. Using the Watchmaker app, you can customize to do exactly what you want and the convenience of the connection to your phone means leaving your phone in your pocket for a quick glance at texts, agenda, weather and fitness parameters. Charge can last up to two days depending on use (when using with directions, I'd recommend muting to watch if you are using the phone for directions - the haptic feedback uses battery). The biggest negative is the charging cradle. It is a very poor design in which you have to clip on the cradle. After 3 months of use the very small prominence that hold the cradle to the phone wore away. Samsung was very poor with replacing this - basically refusing without sending everything back to them, even though it is just a plastic cradle. Took 5 calls over a month to come to this final result (the first 4 calls told me that they would send a replacement cradle, but it never came and finally an account rep told me they wouldn't do it). Bottomline, android wear system meets all the needs, just don't get it from Samsung. BTW bought the Sony for my son.

Review after 15.5 hour day vs G Watch

    Posted .

Before I get into this review, Let me say this. I owned the LG G watch for 3 weeks & just now picked up the Samsung Gear live. 1st ill go over PROS, CONS. My 1st day of very heavy usage, then my final thoughts. Pros: -Screen: OLED screen. More vibrant than competitors(LG). Higher resolution. -Finish: The brushed aluminum just gives it a nice finishing touch & makes it seem more stylish and refined. -Fit: The way this watch fits. Its curved to fit your wrist. That and its so light, you will forget you have it on. -Watch Faces: Gives a few extra really nice faces to choose from that you don't get with the G Watch -Band: The way the band seamlessly fits against or into the bezel. Also, if you choose to, like the g watch, you can buy & install and band. Cons: -Charging Dock: This is where LG knocked it out of the park. Samsung went with some weird plastic snap on charging system vs LG dock where you just place the watch onto it. Clasp: I love the band, how it fits into the watch but how the clasp is designed is odd. Takes some practice to close and get used too. 1 day of Heavy Usage My day started at 7:30am and its now 11pm. 15.5 hours. Right now, I'm sitting at 7% battery remaining. If I still had my LG G Watch, I would guess I would be at about 15% maybe as high as 20% but 15.5 hours is a long day. This includes heavy txt by voice, calls by voice, Gmail, Facebook, lookout, pintrest, cloud magic, Google voice txt, and Facebook messenger notifications all day. I work in sales and have customers contact me plus 24 sales guys that contact me, my fellow managers, corps ect so when I say heavy usage, that is what I mean. Tomorrow, I'm going to turn screen down from 4 to 3 brightness & see how battery is. I'm guessing it will give me a bit more left after a crazy long day like my LG Watch did. With EITHER watch, you will charge it at night. Wake up its done. Charging is very fast. Maybe 2hours for a full charge. Sure maybe with the Moto 360 when it comes out will give you better and the LG does give you a bit more now but I'm happy with the Samsung. Why do I like it better? More vibrant screen, high resolution, clearer screen, easier to read in sunlight etc. OLED blows away LCD in G watch. Fits wrist better, lighter and love the style over the LG. Bottom line, its $199, $30 cheaper than G Watch and moto 360 should be in $300-$400 price range. Yes I will probably get one but for $199 its a bargain. Don't wait get one here asap.

    Everything I wanted

My first smartwatch purchase was actually a Moto 360. But after wearing it for a few weeks, I realized the battery life is too short for me it lasts me through the work day, but if I wanted to go to gym or go out with friends, it will be dead by the time I get home. Enter the Gear Live, with the AMOLED screen I could have the screen on (dimmed) the whole time and it will last me more than 24 hours. Yes, charging everyday is a hassle, but so is charging my smartphone everyday, I don't mind. The rectangular watch face is growing on me and in my *personal* opinion, I like it much more than the round face. Also another unforeseen advantage was the faster CPU, I didn't even realize how smooth it was, till I put the gear live side by side with moto 360. I would highly recommend this watch

    Nice watch

There is alot of misinformation about these watches out there. The 2 things they are right about are the battery life but I charge my smart phone every night so now I charge this as well. The other problem is you will need to shade it in bright sunlight. The charger is simple and easy as long as you pay attention to what you are doing. Just make sure the pins are lined up and snap it ino place. To take it off all is take is the slightest touch on the tab on the side and it disengages, I am sure if you push the tab to hard you would break it but if you do it corect;ly you won't have a problem. I have not had it lose connection with my phone yet and have been in and out of 4 g areas. The pedometer and heart rate monitor work great. The other big thing I hear people complaining about is feeling weird talk to their wrist. If you move the watch closer to your mouth as if looking at the time you can whisper and it works great. I don't find it bulky and it is great not to have to take my phone out all the time. Have worn it out and so far no one has even noticed it isn't a normal watch. When you think that a midrange Timex costs $90 then this is a bargain. No it is not perfect but if you want a super device on your wrist wait about 5 years and the technology might be there. If you want a really cool watch then this is fr you.

Nice softwear build quality suspect (at least mine

First I really like android wear and it features, and they have gotten better with recent updates. I went with the Gear Live because it as kinda the jack of all trades. it looked nice enough to wear daily and even when dressed up a bit, and had a rubber band that I wouldn't mind wearing while working out and running. I wore my gear live daily for nearly 3 months and it was great for the most part. Problems: first the little plastic nib that clicked the charging cradle into place broke within a month. No problem I used a rubber band, inconvenient but got the job done. Second, Dropped the watch and a small crack speared on the screen lower right corner. OK, my fault... still wish it didn't break so easily. I have had various other smartwatches and all have survived minor drops (MotoActiv, Sony Smartwatch, Pebble, MetaWatch). Still, function isn't affected and I can live with it. Third, the Spring bar broke about 1.5 to 2 months in No big deal I replaced it. That is when I noticed issue four (see below). Fourth, the plastic on the bottom that molds into the metal legs the spring bars attach to had broken off in that spot. Not good, but the watch still functioned. Not excited with the build quality, but the watch was still functional and I could live with it. Fifth, one of the metal bars holes that hold spring bars broke just shy of the 3month mark (new years eve). BIG PROBLEM! Not I can no longer wear the watch. Now I wore the watch daily. to the gym, running, working out. If you want something for an active lifestyle, I'd suggest the Sony Smartwatch 3, the most ruggest of all the current Android Wear watches, with it's all metal body and IP68 rating. It's slip on rubber band means it will not have the issue of becoming unwearable like my Gear Live. Not to mention it has build in GPS (now supported by RunKeeper), WiFi and NFC (for added future functionality). The Sony doesn't have a heart rate monitor, though I not something that bothers me (I also haven't found it to very all that accurate anyway). If you want something that looks nice for everyday or dressing up and built of all metal, I would suggest the Asus ZenWatch. It looks GREAT and is all metal with no cheap plastic to break. The Zenwatch has a charging cradle like the Gear Live But it soft slip in rubber so there is no hard plactic nibs to ship off. In conclusion: I like the Google softwear and functions of the watch. The AMOLED display is pretty nice. I love having the functionality of the watch. The hard plastic of the charging cradle breaks too easily (I'm not the only one). Maybe I got a defective unit but, the build quality and materials seem sub-par. The plastic chipping off the back of the body and the broken metal (who would of thought that would be an issue) spring bar holders make the watch currently unwearable for me. I like Samsung and have had several of their phones going back to the Original Galaxy S. I never had an issue with the plastic everyone complained about and found their device to be very durable (amazed at times). Sadly my Gear live hasn't been one of them, maybe it just mine but I would not recommend one from my experience thus far.

First of all, the very first review is totally baseless. The Galaxy Gear Live lasts for about 10+ hours for me. Although Android Wear is still somewhat in beta stages, you'll still enjoy the watch. The built quality is superb especially when compared to the G Watch. You should definitely give it a try, you won't regret it.

Wish I'd gone with Gear 2 Neo

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

To be honest, 3 stars doesn't quite highlight my disappointment with this watch, and I will probably be returning it for the Neo. I read a few comparison reviews and watched some YouTube videos between the two watches, and apparently they were done by Google/Android fanboys that decided to leave out the downsides, as almost every review between the two seems to ONLY highlight how the Live is better than the Neo. I agree that long term, Android Wear will probably get more updates than Tizen is bound to, but for the time being, this watch loses. I appreciate the aesthetic of the always-on watch face, but if all I wanted was a good looking smart watch, I would have waited for the Moto360. I made the foolish assumption after watching reviews, that this was basically the Neo, sans IR blaster, but with Android Wear instead of Tizen...it is not. The pedometer on the Neo is exponentially better for the simple fact that it also calculates distance covered and elapsed time, which is great for running. Having used my wife's I can say that it does this quite accurately I might add. To gather the same information about my run using this watch I am required to pair it to my phone and run a separate application to track my run. Second, and hugely important in my opinion, the Neo gives you a standalone music player to actually put that 4GB of storage to use. Coupled with it's ability to stream to my bluetooth headphones, it means you can go running and not have to wear an armband or keep your phone in your pocket . Just a watch and headphones! I am blown away that this is not included in Android Wear. I imagine it will be in future releases, but why not now. In my opinion, watches running Android Wear really seem to be useless without your phone in reach. I get that it is made to be an accessory to your phone more than a standalone device, but come on!

    Nice Watch, Cheap Charger

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

I got this watch the day that it became available, I was super excited for an all-google operating system that integrated seamlessly with my Google Now preferences, and passed all notifications from the system tray of my phone. Add on the fact that you can text from it, I was ecstatic. Then I opened up the box and the hardware itself was cheap garbage. The watch itself was ok. The rubber band that came with the watch felt like it could pop off at any time since the clasp was designed to just plug a notch with a little bulb on the end. The thing that really got me though was that the charger is a cheap piece of plastic that clips onto the back of the watch. there's no easy way to get it on there, and there's no easy way of getting it off of there without it risking breaking every time. I had this watch for 2 days before it bricked and refused to charge. For $200 this is unacceptable and went back to my Pebble. I now have the Moto 360 watch, which comes with a leather band out of the box, is made of metal, not plastic, and charges through induction by sitting in a neat little cradle while changing the watch face to a "night-time" mode. The extra $50 is completely worth it. (Google now owns Motorola, in case you didn't know)

Pros: • Better battery life than the Moto360 • Nice fit, not huge - but certainly not small Cons: • Clipping the charger on and off is a bit cumbersome. Frequently worried that I'm going to break it. • Takes a while to get comfortable with navigation. Relied heavily on online forums and reviews to figure things out • Reason for no longer keeping it - Samsung does not provide accessories for this SPECIFIC watch. If the wristband breaks, you're SOL - and will have to resort to after-market. Which may seem like no big deal, but due to the faces edged curves - you're limited to options and further limited to options that don't make the watch look funny.

I bought this when it came out, directly from the Play store, but now I'm using a Moto 360. The watch has great battery life. Probably the best out of all Android Wear devices, but you'll still want to charge it every night. I highly doubt it will ever die on you through heavy use though. In terms of contrast and colors, the display is the best one I've seen when compared to the Moto 360 and the LG G watch. The display stays on all the time, which is a great feature. I drove 9 hours once, and showed directions the entire way, all without running out of juice! However, after using a Moto 360 for a week, I can't stand the thick bezel on the display anymore, the display's smaller size or the watches styling. I personally like the round display of the Moto 360 better. Also, the band that comes with the watch has to be the worst ever made. Not comfortable at all, and troublesome to put on. I replaced mine with a fossil leather band, but the band was $25 + tax. For the cost of a usable band, you're much better off with the Moto 360 unless you need more than 16 hours of use at a time or need the display on all the time.
