It seems that I have the same issue as everyone else. I didn't realize it was such a problem so I hope I can spare someone from buying this. It seemed a really decent Chromebook at first. I was happy with it. Lightweight. 2 in 1. Had a pen, seemed great! Then at exactly 13 months, one month after warranty I opened by Chromebook just to use it and the hinge snapped and cracked the screen. After reading everyone else's reviews it's crazy that everyone is saying the same. That right after the warranty ended, it breaks, and I've never used foul play or dropped mine either. Really disappointed bc I paid a good penny for it. Not worth it for $500. So now it's not covered under warranty anymore and to replace the screen and hinge it'll be another $200+ ...so really not a fun situation to be in. I would spend your money on something more reliable.

I really did enjoy several aspects of the Samsung chromebook I purchased. Unfortunately in the end it just wasn't enough of a performer for my needs. Multitasking became difficult at times and there were little glitches with the screen in tablet mode versus desktop mode. I am not saying this is an issue with all of the laptops, just the one I purchased in particular. I thoroughly enjoyed the S-Pen and the ability to run Android Apps from the Playstore. Overall it was a good chromebook/laptop in general. I just opted for a more powerful model in the end due to my particular usage. I will say that while for the most part it was of a good build quality, there was a noticeable difference between the materials used for the top half of the laptop and a much lesser grade of material for the bottom portion/keyboard. Not sure if this is just a model difference, but I have used the other model and it does speak to a much better feeling of the overall quality when the material is all the same. Also the touch sensitivity when using the screen with your finger or even the S-pen was a notably unresponsive at times. It just seems to take a little more force/deliberate touch. All of these things are what led me to feel that while this is a good laptop with great features, it just wasnt worth the price point in my opinion.

My Chromebook is fabulous. Honestly I am not a techie so I really didn’t know what to look for in a chromebook however what stood out was the look, the size of the screen and price. I am very pleased with this product.

It was working well until this first week of November, the chrome book is hard to open. Tried to open it but the left hinge was broken. The left hinge went out of the left lower part of the chrome book screen. So recently we purchased a new one, I hope it won’t have the same problem.

I bought this for my 10 year old. It broke in about 6 months. Now it won't charge or turn on. The hinge broke. Checking online, this appears to be a common problem. The build quality is poor. It was a nice device while it worked, but way too expensive to break that easily. The pen was useful but a bit too small.
Left side hinges broke and popped through bottom of the screen.

I loved my Chromebook for a little over a year. Then one morning I open it and hear CRUNCH. Then see the hing burst out from the screen destroying it in the process. Absolutely no reason this should have happened. Contacted Samsung and they want to charge $362 to fix it. Seriously? I have read so many reviews of this happening to SO MANY MORE PEOPLE. Samsung is doing nothing about it. Just leave us all stranded with destroyed Chromebooks and taking zero liability to an obvious design flaw on their part. Do not purchase Samsung Chromebooks! look t other brands. Disappointed

Got this Model: XE521QAB last december 2018 and there were always noises when the laptop opened.
Today i opened it and it made a pop up noise and the hinge just came off.
The screen is cracked now. Poor quality, i see others having the same issue with this model.
Going to talk to Samsung and see that this is replaced. Will update what customer support says.

I purchased the Samsung chromebook model number: XE521QAB in December of 2018. This past weekend I went to open the chromebook and the right side hinge popped right out of the screen. The chromebook is less than a year old, I called Samsung and spoke to a representative and he seemed to be in denial about the issue. After researching this problem online I found this problem to be a pretty common issue with this product. I am going to send the chromebook back to Samsung and I expect them to stand behind their product and make the necessary repairs to make things right. I'll keep everyone posted on the outcome.

This chromebook is able to rotate, however almost two years with great care, this flimsy thing broke. Without warning, the hinges popped and somehow so did the screen. I do not recommend this item at all.

Grey buy for remote schooling
Posted .

We purchased this model based on availability for our seven year old to use for remote schooling during COVID-19 and it has worked well.
It's a slightly more expensive model but the additional features (Ability to fold the screen over, touchscreen and stylus) have worked very well, allowing her to write on PDF worksheets with the stylus and submit them back to the teacher. It's also great for art and the touch screen works well for page turning with online books and slide presentations.
If you are using it with Google Classroom I would consider using only the schools acccount on the chromebook as switching between multiple Google accounts on the machine is problematic. Using the school account should work well as long as you are using it only for schoolwork and not storing the family photos on the account. You will need one Chromebook per child, again because of the problems with switching between accounts.
The machine is very fast and responsive with plenty of storage and can handle two way video with multiple users via Zoom or Hangouts Meet.

My viewpoint on Chromebooks have changed

I live in a Microsoft Office life. Budgets, Finances, Stocks, Excel...there is nothing that can compete against Microsoft Office. There still isn't. This Chromebook can't do Microsoft Office well either so don't expect to get it for that. However, this does manage everything else very well, more than I expected and that's why I'm giving it a 4 stars. I'm still going to use it for my eBay side job.
PROS:
-No sound (there are no fans)
-Does not overheat
-I could care less if I dropped this device. I got a great deal (better than Black Friday's Deal)
-Keyboard is easy to adjust to; I have long fingers and did not find it cramped at all.
-Although it's only an Intel Pentium processor, it's actually not bad after you get past the initial startup. But remember, it's still an Intel Pentium processor not an i3 or i5 or i7.
-The stylus is great to have but I feel like there's some latency lag (seems to be the case with screens less than 120hz) and off center. However, still a positive having it and it's bearable so keeping it as a positive.
-Battery charges up to full FAST
-Battery life is pretty good, solid 8-10 hours surfing etc. and holds the charge. If you stream though you'll only get like 4 - 5 hours.
-Screen resolution and sound is great
CONS:
-When I first got it, the touch screen had some registration issues. I noticed it got better since I updated the OS. There still are some registration issues but it's manageable.
-The hinge is way too weak. Not sure if I got a defected one but whenever I lift up the chromebook, the screen falls down like flat about 1 inch or so. Not worth the hassle of sending for a warranty replacement or anything though.
-Android app store integration is poor. The apps like Office still crash. I end up just using the chrome browser and logging in to use Microsoft Office. Still, I am not impressed. It won't replace a Windows PC for Office. OneNote frustrates me, sometimes it works very well and no complaints and sometimes it just crashes.

Good Screen, Light-Weight and Affordable

PROS:
- Fairly bright, colorful and glossy screen. Great viewing angles.
- If you keep tabs to a minimum, should handle web surfing, video watching, email, documents, writing, etc.
- Versatile, lightweight and small - not heavy.
- Decent battery life.
- Chrome OS is great for getting started quickly, unlike Windows.
- Good keyboard and track pad.
- I like inputting notes using the pen, especially for brainstorming.
- Having access to Android apps gives you more options.
- Affordable.
NEGATIVES:
- The laptop is a little bit fragile/creaky. Wants to bend.
- If you get too many things running it can lag.
- The display could be better - but this is still better than most.
- Caps lock is a little slow to engage but this is a Chromebook thing.
- Android apps are iffy in how they work. Sometimes I find it's best to just uninstall the android app and use web services within Chrome browser. You get less headaches.
MY USAGE:
I use this Chromebook to write outlines, screenplays and watch video, surf the web and some useless Twitter.
I was seriously considering getting an iPad but the lack of a real hinged keyboard and track pad, always turns into a problem for me.
In the past I've tried using an iPad to write screenplays and it always turned into a disaster. Having to touch the screen for cursor movement within a wall of text is not fun and slows down what can already be a torturous process.
This screen is good enough that I won't miss the iPad's, and the keyboard with track pad means I can work/type when I really want to. But the flexible flip hinge means I can lay back and relax and watch more films than I should.
- I recommend.

I have owned this product for about a month now and I absolutely love it. It's very user friendly, quick and I love the touch screen capability. This Chromebook is excellent for basic functions such as: internet browsing, e-mail, utilizing apps and working from home. I purchased a different Chromebook prior to this one and was disappointed with the speed and ease of use. I paid a little more for this product but I am highly happy with my purchase and recommend it to anyone looking for a sleek, light-weight, user-friendly computer.

The Samsung Chrome is light, easy to use, and fast. As a college student, I bought it to use strictly as a work computer. I use it for assignments and light internet browsing. My only complaint is that the keyboard does not light up. Thankfully the screen is big enough to light up the keys when I'm working in the dark. It's a great machine for the economical price.

I bought this computer a few weeks ago for my daughter's family. They needed an easy-to-use computer when the schools in NYC went to remote learning. They love this computer. My 5 year old granddaughter is able to use it for her online schooling, worksheets, reading, etc. She also uses it for some additional on-line courses that my daughter found for her. My granddaughter can read downloaded books on the computer without her eyes hurting (which is often a problem for her), so that is another plus.
My daughter is an Mac user but had no problems setting up the computer, including using it for Zoom lunch dates with the kids friends, and putting in place parental controls.
I purchased the 3 year protection plan because the computer will get a lot of use by young ones. I figured this increased the risk significantly of accidents and wear-and-tear on the hinges, which seems to be a possible weakness of this model.
It's been a saving grace for my daughter's family, and the Best Buy staff were excellent to work with.

I really like this Chromebook. It's fast, everything loads so quickly. I am basically an internet surfer so I didn't need a big laptop. This is lightweight. The touch screen and stylus pen are a great touch and fun. The battery has a good life. I can't say anything bad about it.

I love this computer. It is perfect for what I needed it for, which is just browsing the internet and running light applications. It's lightweight, easy to use, and the touchscreen / tablet way of using it is very convenient- I love to use it for digital drawing like you would on an iPad. I would get gentle with it however, I accidentally closed the screen too roughly and the screen cracked all the way across the middle. The touchpad also stopped working recently, which I am going to have repaired but in the meantime the touchscreen works fine.
