I got this SSD external drive because my Macbook Pro's storage is dismal (120GB) and photography is a hobby of mine. It didn't take long at all before I ran out of storage space, so I looked for an external SSD that would make the process of managing photos externally as simple as possible. This SanDisk SSD was the perfect choice because I offers SSD speeds, and is extremely portable and can use either a USB-A or USB-C cable to connect to a device. This allows me to just use a USB-C to USB-C cable so that I don't always have to pack around a dongle (my Macbook Pro only has Thunderbolt/USB-C ports). SanDisk made some excellent decision in the design of this external drive, because it is so light and small it would be prone to sliding around quite easily, but there is a rubbery texture around the edges and on the back of it so that it will not slide easily as it is sitting on a desk or tabletop. I have not had any issues at all with it. I highly recommend it.
It is rather pricey but if you want an extremely portable and convenient storage solution I would say it's worth paying more (rather than an internal SSD drive inside an enclosure-that is prone to moving/losing connection to the enclosure terminal).

I purchased this External SSD to use for photo editing and play games off of. So far, the speeds have matched as advertised and hasn't had any issues out it. It's currently formatted on ExFat being used on both my Windows and Mac operating systems and working perfect between the two operating systems. I've also been running Call of Duty Warzone off of it on high settings without any lag and keeps up perfectly. This SSD is fantastic! I can't get over how small it is for the size and speeds it has. I highly recommend this hard drive for anyone needing a portable drive to game or edit from. I've attached a picture to compare its size to a pack of gum.

I own three of these (2 - TB and 1 - 500MB) I really like the versatility, portability, and speed. Because this SSD has a rubberish casing it I am more comfortable tossing it in my gadget gear pouch. It connects quickly to my Mac, PC, and iPad. I often use it as my network between devices. It comes with a type-C cord and small type-A/type-C converter. Transfer rates are excellent, not super fast but fast enough for easy 4K video transfer.
The only things I don't like about this device is the cord. The cord is too short and too ridged. I would like to have two cords instead of the small converter. I keep my drive in a gadget pouch so I can easily keep up with everything. I could see the converter getting lost or left in a computer. These are minor compared to the speed, size, and portability of this drive.

Recently had an issue with a WD passport 1GB external drive and wanted to have a faster, more reliable backup drive for my new iMac running OS Mohave 10.14.6. Upon plugging in to the thunderbolt port, it immediately appeared on the desktop. Upon opening Time Machine I was able to chose the new SanDisk Extreme and execute the Time Machine backup. The xfer speed did not show during the process but it completed backing up a little over 600GB in four hours. It is much smaller than I expected which makes it very portable. I definitely recommend!!!!

The Scan Solid State Drive is a great purchase. My laptop SSD got close to its limit. This drive seems very rigid, it light and very impressing that it can hold 1TB of data.
My intent is to use this SSD for quick access requiring applications. The USB-C is also a plus since it can access the data faster. Good investment.

I love the small compact SSD Drive from Sandisk. I showed mine to a friend and he plans to get the same one. 1 tb is right for me right now for my 512g IPad Pro 2019.

I bought this after a 2TB G drive I got on Amazon failed on me the first day. It has been reliable and close to rated speeds consistently. I think I am done buying important electronics from Amazon! I lost a lot of images through this.

Good speed, great size.
But:
- It gets really hot, almost too hot to touch after 15 minutes of use.
- The heat makes me nervous about the long-term performance. I think this thing will die soon.
- I read similar stories in other reviews where the drive worked well for the first few months and then died. Most of those people also complained about heat issues. This much heat is not normal, and I'm worried my drive will also have a short life. So far it hasn't died on me, but then I've only used it for a few weeks.

I bought this scandisk external memory primarily because of its small size, lightweight and portability. A type C which is compatible with my gadgets. It is fast looks durable hopefully it will last a long time. I intend to buy another one with a higher capacity because I liked its design. It's much better if they will reduce the size of it more and include a case.

My SanDisk Extreme portable drive provided exactly what I was looking for, a way to travel with and back up all of my files, available when needed.
The 1TB storage is very roomy, storing everything that I have with alot a space to spare. Its a SSD drive; this one is fast enough for me. The drive is small and hardly weighs anything. It has a grippy rubber coating that I like. Last year, SanDisk supplied a silver carabiner clip with this drive, but the one I bought in July 2019 did not. It probably is not a good idea to dangle your data files from a loop on your bag, anyway.
A USB-C cable with a USB-A adapter is included, so only one cable is needed. That flexibility is a thoughtful feature. But the cable does not stay seated into my macbook USB-C, falling out and disconnecting my drive without properly ejecting it - something that should not happen.
Less expensive drives that offer similar storage, but the form factor of this drive makes it worth the added cost. The SanDisk Extreme seems more durable and capable of traveling in my bag.
My 3-star rating is mainly due to the cable falling out issue, I may find a different USB-C cable for my own use. I also use this drive less than I thought. It is a hassel to keep the files up-to-date this way, streaming to cloud storage may be a better choice.
The peace of mind that my sensitive files are always available where ever I may be makes this SSD drive a good addition to my travel bag.

Amazing drive, but you MUST format it

The drive itself is amazing. It's tiny, light, and fast as hell, truly living up to the promised 550 MB/s.
That said, if you plan to use this drive for anything other than movies, music, and pictures, you need to format it before using it. This is especially true if you plan to use the drive to back up your phone or computer. Out of the box, the drive is formatted with exFAT and an allocation size of 1 MB. That means that any file less than 1 MB takes up 1 MB of space. 1 MB may not seem like much on a 250 GB-2 TB drive, but with the myriad of small files that show up on backups taking up 1,000x more space than normal, it adds up. See the attached pictures for a small text file taking up 2,700x more space than it actually is and a 177 GB backup taking up an extra 73 GB on the drive.
I mention this because it's an easy fix. According to the command line, the sector size on the drive is 512 bytes, meaning there is no reason to have an allocation size that large. All you need to do is format the drive as exFAT and select a smaller allocation size than 1 MB. Microsoft recommends 128 KB, but you could go as small as 4 KB or as large as 256 KB and still be far more efficient than the factory 1 MB allocation size.

When even high capacity flash drives won't hold everything you need to carry around, the Extreme SSD is an excellent choice and it is very fast. This drive is small, about 2 x 3 3/4 x 3/8. Thinner than some of the flash drives I have so easy to keep in a back pocket. It even fits in a coin pocket, more or less. So, extreme portability. Haven't used the Secure Access software because I already have programs for that purpose.

Excellent for travel, with the ability to carry 1 TB of files. The small size and light weight is a huge plus. Pricier than the standard external USB 3.0 drives, the solid state construction makes it less delicate. If your computer has the capacity, the USB C connection is extremely fast. Very good if you deal with large files like photos or video.

I love this SSD because of its small size, speed, and the durability is incredible. I had it in a bag with a bottle of fragrance oil that accidentally spilled all over it. Even though the oil stuck longer smell-wise than a typical cologne bottle would, the SSD still works like a beast and is most definitely a safe haven for your data.

Excellent drive. Super fast and fits in the palm of my hand. I had a 500 gb and with the USB 3.1 it took me minutes to transfer everything over to this one. I’m kicking myself in the butt for not grabbing 2 of these when they went on sale. The price was great. If you get a chance, do so.

This mighty and tiny drive is perfect for offloading large files and libraries from my MacBook. After months of remote learning I had amassed gigabytes of video files on my computer. I didn't want these to take up the space on my laptop nor did I want to lose them in case I need them for next year's students.
I was able to quickly connect this to my laptop, format the drive to the right type, and very quickly copy over nearly 40GB of files. It took longer to learn how to safely move files than it did for the files to transfer!
This lightweight drive can travel anywhere with me so I know my files will be available in the blink of an eye.

Purchased to replace older external hard-drive that I carry with my laptop. I trust SanDisk from past experiences. This solid-state drive is very fast for file transfer, and is small enough to pack easily. So far, durability has been good, bouncing around in my backpack every week. Would recommend.

Definitely recommend this to anyone who cares about speed, portability and durability. Comes in quite handy to save photos and music on the go and not worry about running out of space on the phone.
Transfer speeds are great unlike a traditional hard drive.
