Customers have good things to say about the G-DRIVE 6TB External USB-C Hard Drive's large storage capacity, which is great for storing various files and backing up data. The USB-C connectivity is also praised for its ease of use, especially with Mac computers. However, some customers noted that the drive can be noisy and generate noticeable heat during operation, while others found it larger than anticipated. The size and need for a power outlet may limit its portability.

I eat through external hard drives. I use them all the time for photo and video editing. There isn't a name brand that I haven't used, and haven't had crash and burn. This is my first SanDisk G-Drive so I have high hopes it will last longer. It is connected to my 2021 MacBook Pro when I need the images it houses. I upgraded my camera this year and the size of the images, 50MB from a Canon R5, make this drive lag a little in Light Room and Photoshop. It isn't any worse than some other drives but it is noticeable to me. Other than that it is still working after a month. We will see in a year. My last drive that crashed was a LaCie Rugged. Just quick mounting and no one has had any luck with it. Lost a LR catalogue and a season of basketball and football master images. Before that it was a Seagate; before that it was two WD; and so on. I don't rough house them, I just use them a lot. So SanDisk G-Drive is next.

I have been through a lot of external HD's over the years. 10 years ago getting a 6TB drive under $2500 would be a dream (if a 6tb drive was even available at the time) . The G-Drives I found to be very reliable and well made. I have 3 going right now (2-4Tb and this 6TB). I have bought "Cheaper" drives and some have lasted, most have not. Yes you can get cheaper but do they come in metal cases and so solidly built? No, I have a few of those cheaper ones and they do not. This drive is fast (fast enough for me, not sure what everyone else is using them for so check the specs). I use mine mainly to back up computers. Also my renderings and PS projects get stored there. If you can use a desktop External and not portable (I have both, my portables never travel oddly enough) this model will not disappoint. But be like me and have at least 2 just in case and never buy them at the same time. These things will eventually fail yes, they are spinning discs. If you are looking for an investment that will last a lot longer get a solid state drive (Now we are back to $2500 + for multiple TB's) . I tend to buy them 6-12 months apart from each other so I know when (yes when) may computer does crash or won't turn on etc... I have multiple back ups and not all of them are the same age because that age might be the day before they fail too.

Fast, solid, dependable drive. I have found the SanDisk drives, and particularly the G Drive line to work flawlessly. I've got about 5 of them daisy chained together, never turn them off (I've had them for a number of years), and they don't overheat, make any noise or vibrate. Sandisk is the only brand I'll buy, especially after all the trouble that I've had with Failing Western Digital drives.

I use it as storage for my video work. It's great for storage but not as good for editing 4K video. I have no complaints. It works for what I bought it for and Sandisk has never really let me down yet

Terrific, solid enclosure. Looks great too. Since it's an HDD, it runs at all times it's connected to the computer, and my desk resonates with the vibrations so it's a bit loud. If I were using it in a recording scenario, it would have to be isolated to stop the noise. It doesn't sleep, so I have to dismount/unplug it from my Mac Mini to shut it down, even though it's still plugged in to the power supply. But a well-made drive, and a great, Goldilocks capacity.

I've been using GDrives for a while now. The best feature about the USB-C drives though in particular is that it does charge laptops when plugged in. Also great size, 4TB was too small for the project I'm editing, but 8TB was too expensive for the budget.

Well built case, and solid performance. USB-C bro! This is a really well-built drive, and will end up buying another, they are really good, and fast, because of USB-C. No more clunky slow USB-3.0 drives, this is lighting compared to even USB-3 drives.

I love this! It’s pretty but it’s also a workhorse, I use it for editing photos/videos on Adobe and it keeps everything running smoothly. I will probably need another soon but this hard give was the best purchase I made!

Makes an interesting knocking noise every few seconds when idling, but otherwise pretty quiet. Fast transfers with USB-C. Looks awesome sitting next to a Mac.

This is a traditional spinning drive that turns at 7,200 RPMs. I purchased it to move my data from my Apple Max Studio to off load the internal 512 GB hard drive it came with.
The build quality is high on this (Aluminum) and for a spinning drive, it is fast. I have no complaints.

I have two of these G-DRIVE 4TB. So I bought this one for the new technology since I have a new Macbook Pro. The idiots at Best Buy tried to sell me an inferior hard drive they don't even know what they're even doing. I have never had any problems with any of these hard drives.

This thing is the real deal. Physically it’s a beast, very solid. I feel confident it’s going to work for years to come. Also it charges my MacBook when I’m connected which is a great feature.

SSDs are the way to go for larger files

I personally haven’t used HDDs for a few years and was looking for a decently sized desktop hard drive to store raw image files and 4K footage which I currently store on expensive portable SSDs — and unfortunately the write speeds are just way too slow for my workflow, so I’ll be going for a dedicated SSD raid (or similar solution) for my needs here on out. Transferring files from a 2TB portable SSD to this HDD was literally taking hours, so I just need a faster solution.
