Customers admire the Universal Remote + Host Kit for its easy setup process, even for beginners, and its beautiful, sturdy, and comfortable design. However, some customers have concerns about its compatibility with certain devices, particularly ASUS routers and home networks, as well as its relatively high price point. Additionally, a few customers have experienced occasional connectivity issues where the remote struggles to find its base.

I really wanted to like this remote. I have used Harmony remotes for years but wanted to try something new. The quality of the remote is great and the display is amazing. I have spent a few hours on the phone with Savant tech support. First, my Denon AVR-X2300W receiver isn't in their database, so I have to choose a generic Denon. Second, I can't toggle between inputs using the Savant remote. Third, they don't support Zone 2 at this point. I can’t even use my Bluetooth feature from my receiver with this Savant. It’s too basic and not designed for “Power Users.” Everyone in their tech support department is very friendly and I think I have worked with just about everyone there. Their equivalent of Harmony's Activities is Scenes, which isn't great. On top of paying $500 for the Savant Remote + Host, I had to pay an additional $70 for another blaster. Savant explained that you basically need one blaster per shelf. DEAL BREAKER!!! I have been using this remote side by side with the Harmony remote which is $349 and I don't have to purchase anything additional. Also, remember Best Buy has a $100 trade in program for old Harmony remotes. I think I have no choice at this point but to return the Savant. It would also be nice if Savant had an online compatibility list to see what they support. Savant also told me that my receiver isn't in their database. It sure would be nice to be able to go online and see when it is added. Savant, you all need to put my effort into this remote if you expect it to sell without “BUYER REMORSE.”

Although the product claimed hundreds of thousands of products it could support, it did not support my favorite streaming device the Amazon Fire stick. If you don't care about that it was very good but pricy.

    Beautiful Yet Crippled Device Support

I'd first like to point out that I completely understand, any new universal devices in this always advancing consumer A/V device field, can experience growing pains, although the current status of available device support and severely limited personal customization of this Savant (Consumer) “universal” remote is ludicrous. As with quite a few other reviewers, I also own a Harmony remote (the Harmony Elite to be more specific). So I have firsthand knowledge of the ease of programming via the unbelievably vast Device data base app, harmony has to offer. When programming a Harmony remote (yes this is important for those who don’t own one): If by chance you either don't see the device, or have issues with programming an activity or even need help with a necessary macro, or IR code delay, the support techs can assist and/or even do it for you saving it to your account. Getting the best tech on the phone can sometimes be a bit of an issue and I’ve experienced some long hold times in the past, but all in all the sessions have been virtually painless and successful in outcome. Savant (Consumer) Remote Techs on the other hand currently, have a very LIMITED database of devices/codes and a very restrictive way they allow you to setup your "Services" aka Activity. They also have a scene mode that can control A/V as well as lighting, only with their lamp modules (at least as of this post). Getting a Savant (Consumer) Remote tech rep on the phone is actually quite quick and easy, they are incredibly understanding and friendly, except 2 different techs told me they had no option (as of this posting) to view our devices or assist in programming the scenes, they could only talk us through them. I initiated a few calls to try and troubleshoot why my 1yr old Samsung sound-bar couldn’t be properly programmed to power on the correct digital HDMI 1 input. The very nice Tech’s kept apologizing, saying "they'd hope to have more devices added Down the road” offering no other option, I requested a Level 2 tech. Sadly, the Level 2 Tech suggested I use the analog connection to the AUX input which was the only code the remote would send. Considering the fact that the system was dependent on an HDMI ARC connection that was an unacceptable solution. At that point I realized they really didn’t have any solutions, let alone the ability assist with programming directly to our accounts, like Harmony can. To briefly put things into perspective: Harmony was created around 2001 (for consumers). Savant circa 2005 (Originally and still offers High End Home Automation services installed by professionals) Savant Pro must have just as extensive a database as Harmony, if not larger and Discrete remote codes aren’t remote specific. What looks to be happening here is plain and simple interdepartmental resistance/sabotage (it might sound a bit extreme but seems to be the case). Savant (Pro) refuses to share their database with the Savant (Consumer) Remote division, due to some ridiculous concern the (Consumer) remote division will impact the Savant (Pro) sales. In closing: I was hoping to hold onto this remote, but for $500 and being given the response “device support updates hoping to be available, down the road” make this product more a gamble than a comfortable purchase. Pros: 1. Beautiful, Sturdy, Well Balanced Remote 2. Much higher res LCD Display (Then Harmony Elite) 3. Nice Hub Design Cons: 1. Expensive (for current lack of Functionality) 2. Crippled Device/Discrete Code support 3. Can't Have a Receiver and Soundbar in the same Service 4. Lack of ability to personalize remote: Can’t Re-arrange Favorite Channels 5. Can’t rename “Services” aka Activities or use custom Icons 6 .Additional Blasters Expensive and AAA battery powered only (they Claim batteries last 6 months to a year, dependent upon use)

I purchased this at the suggestion of the Magnolia sales rep in an attempt to avoid juggling 5 separate remotes. It took me hours to complete the setup and two calls to the Savant reps (who were courteous and helpful). Even they were unable to explain some of the anomalies I was experiencing ...eventually we worked things out. I have experienced several "Lost connection between host and remote" episodes since installation. One resolved quickly, one took two hours to repair. Bottom Line: When it works it works well...when it fails it's challenging to resolve the issue quickly.

From functionality, ease of use to rigor of the product, all fails. I tried, really tried to like this product but can't. I was looking forward to a high end experience but got an immature product. Also one drop from couch to floor-broken. So not only did the functionality suck, the fragility of the product is such that after 3 months I guess I just learned a $500 lesson. Going back to the Logitech Harmony Elite, does the Lutron/Sonos/Nest things better and is more mature.

Seems like there are some issues depending on what your entertainment setup is like but for our house the remote has been awesome. Completely transformed the way we use all of our devices. We have Sonos and a new Sony Bravia smart tv. We also have an older apple tv and philips dvd player. Setup for us was less than 15 minutes. So, it was strange to see the reviews but seems like they are having problems with certain brands. It was super easy for me and I do not have a lot of patience. I had bought a Harmony about six months ago and returned it because it was annoying to setup and it was cheap feeling. Overall, it's been really great. My kids use it, my wife uses.. My father in-law comes over to watch the kids and he totally digs it. I set up a profile just for him which has the 4 cable channels he loves (CNN, ESPN, Weather Channel, PBS - hysterical) For me personally I like the Scenes you can make. We are always rushing out the door for soccer or baseball. I created a goodbye scene that I use from the app. I use that scene everyday. We also bought a couple of the lighting plugs. I love the lighting aspect. I hope they work with Hue or one of those other smart bulbs soon. I will definitely buy those and add to our home. We also have a Nest thermostat, so I am hoping that will connect at some point. One other thing - their emails are awesome. Really helpful tips. I hope they fix some of the issues people are having problems with because I love this remote and the app. Maybe someday I will be able to get one of their Savant Pro systems.

Don't have fully functioning yet a couple weeks after. Seem to still have to go to Verizon control for many things. Not sure it's worth the money. GeekSquad is coming out in 2 weeks--so will see if i change my mind then.

Was not compatible with my ASUS router / home network. Savant support was no help. They should be more specific in description about what you need for savant to tap into home network. Returned everything. Thank goodness Best Buy rocks when you buy something of inferior design.

I have normal'ish configuration; Samsung TV, receiver, some game systems, Apple TV, BlueRay, etc. After some minor issues, I was able to get the system set up through the application on an iPhone. The remote is large... I have big hands but the remote still feels large in even in my hands. The bigger issues are it doesn't flip modes properly from one device to another, sometimes it decides to turn off the receiver for no reason. I'm assuming some of these issues can be addressed. The biggest issues I ran into is the lack of configurablility of the remote. I can't put a button on it that says, watch a BlueRay. That would require it to make sure the TV is on, the input is set to receiver, the receiver is on, select the XBOX one, pull up the blueray app and then flip into a screen that works like a blueray remote. The Harmony series of remotes did this ten years ago and did not cost $500. I'm not really sure what this remote is supposed to do as it implies it can do these things but documentation is really limited. The videos are marketing-oriented and don't really show you anything other than people talking to the remote and it having some different modes. I'm going to give mine one more go and then return in. I don't know who the target audience is as it won't replace the number of remotes you already have and won't be something a more technical person would want because it doesn't give you a lot of control of what it is doing. Recommend people look elsewhere.

I bought this at the recommendation of Magnolia rep and had to return it the next day. Very buggy. Also very poor I/R and only one RFI. Harmony Elite is less expensive and works much better. Don't spend the extra money for a subpar product.

SO I was really looking forward to having a Savant product at home. First, it doesn't work at all with my Projector, and second, it would lose the connection to the hub, and forget settings, so I would have to add them again. After all is said and done, it's a sleek piece of hardware, with still buggy software, and its lack of support for projectors mean that this things its segmented to just the tv users. You can keep it, I returned mine before the 30 days!

The remote, base and repeater look very nice visually. I am using it for our home theater which now has only audio and video equipment. The choice of support for different kind of devices is very good. Also the extensibility of the product to home security and lighting seems promising. I had some amount of difficulty in setting up. Programming was easy but getting the devices to synchronize was a bit challenging. The factory reset pin is hard to reset as it has hole alighment issue.

WiFi signal loss is constant. Full Feature? The whole idea was to get rid of remotes. 1 by one, I started to bring out the original remotes. Back to my original state. Purchased a new 4K Blu Ray, not even available. Expensive mistake.
