    Boyscouts & Zombies

Fun little flick which is a zombie horror comedy. This genre has been stretched out a little thin over the past few years, but I happened to really like this one. The boyscout angle, the friendship between the three leads, and the suburban setting gives the movie it's charm. There's a few raunchy gags with some of the zombies as well. The picture and audio are very good but not quite demo material. There are some fun and insightful behind the scenes supplements. I would wait for this one to drop to about the 14.99 range for most potential buyers.

If you like zombies it's certainly worth a view. It never gets deep and there are a number of "newbie" mistakes concerning their approach to zombie fighting (guys, get some guns), but come on, it is a comedy. And gross factor was awesome. One and a half thumbs up!

Very good for a zombie movie. Has plenty of great laughs and awesome gore. Especially for the classic zombie killing scenes. Good cast too.

    80's Style Horror/Comedy Done Well!

Ever since Shaun of the Dead, it seems like there's a new zombie comedy contending for our movie dollars every year. Most are forgettable. Some, just bad horrors that wind up being unintentionally funny. And then a few others that try to mimic that 80s-early 90s vibe, but end up mocking the period instead. Then there've been a few more from overseas that had a strong enough reception in the world market to make it to the US. But, unlike Shaun, they must lose something in the translation, or were graded on a curve, relative the size of their development studios, even though some of the best horror/comedies have come from humble beginnings. Anyway, the zombie comedies we've liked enough to watch twice, I can count on one hand. This would probably fall in our top three favorites of the "zombie" comedy genre with Shaun still at the top and Warm Bodies following. Maybe I was in just the right mood for the film when I saw it, but I think it's a pretty safe bet for fans of the zombie comedy genre or horror comedies in general.

How do you make another zombie movie in a market saturated by the like truly stand out? Contemporary audiences are so accustomed to seeing people get their throats ripped out by the undead that they settle in for it every Sunday night. So, the questions remains: if you're set on making a movie featuring zombies, how do you make it feel fresh? Or necessary? Director Christopher Landon (Paranormal Activity: The Marked Ones) answers that question by combining the zombie genre with that of a raunchy teen comedy and allowing this interesting hybrid of styles to both acknowledge their debt to where they came from while at the same time pushing the boundaries as far as they can go so as to appease that "contemporary" part of the audience. The result of such experimenting? A really fun time. More over, a better time than you'd likely expect after just hearing that pitch. That Scouts Guide to the Zombie Apocalypse goes in such the opposite direction of what expectations were, it immediately becomes something of a treasure trove of a movie-making audience members wonder with anticipation about what we might come across next. There is something to be said about the type of film that initially seems to be nothing more than a rejected, cheap satirical comedy that stars David Koechner, but is slowly accepted over time for being judged not purely on it's credentials or the circumstances of the time in which it was made, but rather for the singular type of experience it's viewing brings. I'm not saying the same with will happen with this film as say Hocus Pocus, but the film in and of itself is way too enjoyable and way too appealing (especially to teen audiences) to fall by the wayside forever. At an hour and a half the film breezes by with an effortless ease that sets up it's (mostly) likable characters, presents us with it's conflict and then utilizes it's quirky premise to round things out in a satisfying and largely hilarious manner.

In the mood for a mindless romp and some great CGI work? Not ready for the Argento/Fulci classics of yesteryear, but still wanna see some gutmunchers in action? Step right up, this is just what you need! With the walking dead storyline being done to (no pun intended) death, this is a fresh take on this overused workhorse, it actually lives up to the title! Creative but predictable, this is a better picture than the title and the box office would imply.............kick back and enjoy the ride!

The movie is actually quite decent. It's got a very traditional, old school 3 act structure that is executed well, if not a bit too safe and clichéd. The humor drifts from being situational to ridiculous, and it comes across as aimed at the younger teenage demographic. It lies in the middle of the spectrum of dark and gritty Walking Dead and hilarious Shaun of the Dead. The extras are somewhat limited, but the quality is decent.

    Coming of Age Zombie Fest

Well written coming of age zombie fest (Carrie Evans, Emi Mochizuki and Lona Williams) with director Christopher B. Landon (Paranormal Activity franchise) is gory, funny and well paced. A talented cast lead by Tye Sheridan (Mud) and funny man David Koechner (Anchor Man) and cameo by Chloris Leachman. Three scouts must take what they have learned in the scouts to save their friends and family from the zombie apocalypse.

If you go into this thinking you are looking at a front runner for an award, you are mistaken. That is not to say it is a bad movie, it is just a fun, action packed movie, with a a reason to laugh almost constantly. The cinematic quality is great, the actors play their parts really well. I have recommended this movie to all of my friends and have a waiting list to watch it. It is so good it is bad. Not family friendly.

In the vain of Zombieland, Scouts Guide is a fun take on the many zombie movies/TV shows that we have seen over the last few years. A good number of those movies and shows are for the most part forgettable, Scouts Guide is probably one you'll remember. A little crude at times and of course some blood, if you seen Zombieland and liked it, you'll more then likely like this one as well!

Had this been released with younger talent who is more well known,I'm sure the response might have been better. Not as good as the last horror comedy I watched, The Final Girls, but it was entertaining. There are some crazy scenes in this one that are a bit over the top, but that's what this movie is all about. Good late night movie to watch!
