While no hard drive lasts forever, this holds a lot of space for a decent price. We know back up space is moving to cloud based services but there is still use for an external hard drive. I was able to move my extensive music collection to this drive until the electronic industry opens up the heavens and lets us back up everything without the fear of losing it. My older , smaller Seagate lasted a good six years for me. I hope to get that or more out if this one too.

Was definitely my computer, but when I plugged it in, setup did not come up and it failed to recognize the new drive. I decided to try it on my laptop and it started up just fine. Even though it was my computer, would have hoped this drive would have been programmed to work on any computer. I did some downloads from the website and messed around and finally got it going. Just frustrating because I had to waste so much time dealing with it. Once it started working, it was easy from then on out. No issues, great back up drive for all my pics.

Overall the drive has worked out great. Only downside is you have to format it for OS X before using it. Works perfectly with El Capitan - Time Machine and allows for additional space for storage beyond the Time Machine backup. A bit noisy, large in size and not extremely fast but again, good for the price. You do need to connect to an outlet in addition to USB (would have been good to obtain power from just USB). Would recommend!

I was hoping to get this, plug it in, and back up my files within minutes, but for some reason my PC did not recognize it. When I went to another computer, it was fine, so it was my computer but still, wondering why it didn't work or if something could have been done to ensure it was plug and play. I downloaded some software from Seagate, and tried a few fixes, then it finally worked. 4 stars for the frustration and time spent, other than that, if it recognizes your PC right off the bat, you'll love it.

Nothing special here, simple hdd, simple design, simple operation. Nice external enclosure understated one led to indicate power. Using this on a home media server as a backup drive, access speeds on usb 3.0 host on debian wheezy are within expected transfer rates. Works fine for a down and dirty rsync backup drive. For the price point for an external 5tb drive I can find no complaints.

Reformatted this Drive for use with my Mac Book Pro. Did not need to use included back up software, because I use Time Machine. I set up two partitions. 1 partition for Time Machine and 1 partition for Media storage, pictures, videos, and music. I did not experience any problems during set up and data transfer at USB 3 is FAST. I purchased this product on sale for a great price.

These days we are always in search for the best solution for storage. The prices have been dropping steadily as technology advances, and I have to say that this 5 terabyte storage from Seagate has been extremely reliable and helps take up all the requirements of my video editing business. I have two of these as mirror backups, and can't say how quickly they are to access!

Nothing special here, disk is not super fast, is local usb 3.0 and doesn't have xyz cool new feature to make the world a better place. What is does have is a large amount of storage for an excellent price point. Perfect for extending storage, back up disk, etc. I have been using it for extended storage on a nas box and it is performing acceptably for the past few months.

It can't be easier than plug and play! That's all I had to do to get up and running with this device. I already had a 1 TB device of another brand but I need a lot of space to process and store all the audio and video that I need for my recording studio. With this device I effectively increased my backup and memory capacity to 5 TB for minimal cost. I love it!

I've had no problems out of the hard drive thus far. It runs smoothly and quietly when plugged in. 5TB should quench my ever growing photography library for quite some time to come. The only con I would have to say is that it has to be plugged in to the wall to be used; not a great on-the-go HD. Aside from that, this product is a steal for the price.

Mostly used for storage of digital photo files. Figuring out how to set up directory files required by certain photo processing programs is the biggest hassle, and this has nothing to do with the drive: it's just when you have 5 TB of storage, it is all too easy to lose track of stuff. Drive works great. Never misses a beat. HIghly recommended.

Easy to connect and access, I use this to drive to store my photo files. They would not fit on my computer. I use lightroom and photoshop elements to edit and there are no noticeable issues with acessing and files or saving to the drive. The dirve is small enough to carry in my laptop bag.

Seagate 5GB External Storage: So far so good

I purchased this brand because I have been using a similar yet smaller version, the 2TB, for my work photography files on a 2012 Mac Book Pro. I actually work on files directly on the drive for photo editing and it works great! So, when I wanted a new external drive for my personal and freelance work I went with this one. I have 3 other branded external hard drives: two 1TB and one 2TB. Although originally set up to work with both my Windows System and my MacBook Pro after reformatting them for NTFS, I can now only open them on one of my computers which means the files for the other computer can't be accessed anymore. It was very important for me to make sure that I can take my photos and graphic design files back and forth between my mid 2009 MacBook Pro and my Windows 7 system and to access older files. The WINNING FEATURE for me was the built in driver that walks you through setting this up to work on both a Mac and PC in NTFS. No reformatting required! I LOVE this feature. It also allows you to partition the drive so I could partition some TB for each computer and use the rest on the memory in a 3rd partition for shared files. I chose not to do this because I'm only going to use it for shared files. I will end up re-purposing my old external drives for Backup drives and then make a cloud back up as well, which was suggested to me by the very helpful Best Buy sales person. It was also very important to me that it is still compatible with the USB 2.0 since that is the one built into my Mid 2009 MacBook Pro. My older desktop Widows PC system was rebuilt and upgraded in 2014 so the USB 3.0 on the drive also is nice to have. I did the initial set up on my Mac as recommended and because that is the one that doesn't typically run NTFS. The setup program cautions you how to keep your Mac from turning it into a backup drive which would make it incompatible with the Windows computer. Also a GREAT feature and probably why I can't get into my other brand external drives from both computers anymore. So far so good. I'm currently consolidating all my files from each computer and each old external drive into this one. I've also recently upgraded to Windows 10. Although my PC seems to be having a few bugs with that, this Seagate drive still works great. I make sure to tell my Windows system and my Mac system not to use it as a backup when ever it asks. By experience, I recommend you don't skip that step, especially for the Mac.

Great drive capacity for the price but was a bit shady on the offer of the 200GB of Cloud space on one drive, we had to get technical support to help us get to the right place to get the offer, but sure enough, it does give you the cloud space for 2 years. Over all, it a very quiet drive, I say its a must have these days.

I came to the store to find an external hard drive for my Xbox one and then came across this product which was a lot cheaper and had a huge amount of storage compared to the hard drives made for the system. Defenantly worth the money and probably won't be needing another one any time soon. Extremely satisfied.

    Digital Storage at a Bargain

I usually consider digital storage at $50 a Tb to be a great deal. But with these drives approaching $30 a Tb, I was immediately intrigued. We produce hour-long TV shows, so we are constantly in need of, not just more storage, but reliable storage. This drive from Best Buy has certainly delivered on both.

Best Buy has a variety of external storage options. But no matter who I talk to - or at what location - I'm almost always pointed to this product as the best value for performance model. And in y experience it has been. The price point was very affordable and it even looks great, too.
