I used mine for a rather mundane purpose: to consolidate duplicate files across eight 1-TB USB 2.0 drives into a pair of 8-TBs, to shrink the size of the total backup and free those smaller units for other uses. Given its size, however, it could serve as a digital media storage unit, and that's probably a better use for it.

Added this to my Series X for all of my older XBOne content after my previous Seagate failed after 7 1/2 years of use. It was super easy to set up and let's me leave only series x optimized games on my console hard drive.

Easily hooked this up to my Netgear Nighthawk R8000 and use it throughout my network for storing my files. I retired a Seagate 4TB that ran for 5 years plus and it is still good. Just wanted something big and new.

Took me moments to set this bad boy up. No noticeable lag when using the front USB ports to add additional USB Hard Drives. Perfect for storing movies for future editing. A great way to massively improve your storage needs.

Great price for the 8 terabytes. This machine i bought for my Mac laptop to keep backups in case failure ever happens. The 8 TB capacity is far more than my mac's 500 GB space

It has a lot of storage space for what it cost but it also isn't available to use on a PC and Mac together.

This drive was an impulse buy when I saw the storage amount and then the price. I've been very happy with the performance, and the added USB 3.0 Hub on the front has been a welcome addition to my desk. I was finally able to consolidate all my movies on to one drive!

Hard drive enclosure is well built and the USB 3.0 gives great transfer speeds. I consistently get 170-190mbps while transferring. I love the extra ports on the front of the hard drive as well. I will only use Seagate or Western Digital products when it comes to HDD.

8TB Seagate for $169?! Great price! Connected to iMac and backed up 5TB of data no problem. The drive makes a bit more noise compared to the 3TB, 4TB and 5TB Seagate Bakup Plus drives I have, but not bad. Same drive at Micro Center is on sale for $235, normally $270!

    Excellent Value for Archival Storage

The Seagate Backup Plus Hub 8TB External USB 3.0 hard drive is an outstanding value for the price, providing the lowest cost per TB of storage I've been able to find. The trade off for this is the relatively slow and power conservative 5900RPM archival drive housed in the chassis. This can become a problem is you intend on heavy usage where performance is a concern. If you want cheap storage for rarely accessed files or an inexpensive way to improve your backup situation, this is a great choice. If you want to regularly use the hard drive for directly running files, especially from multiple sources spend the extra money for a non-archival drive.

I'm looking for a storage for my music and backup a few files as well. This more-than-enough Seagate - Backup Plus Hub 8tb External Usb 3.0 Desktop Hard Drive worked as fast as expected and streamed my Hi Resolution music without a glitch. Highly recommended.

I can't go wrong with Seagate products which I have been using for years now. I have 2 3TB drive that are full so I purchased this one to add to the collection of movies on my server. Fast speeds and no manuals needed.

I generally don't go for Seagate Hard Drives due to past experiences but I thought I would give them another try. The price was right with a large drive to boot. So far the drive has been working great with acceptable transfer speed for USB 3.0.

While a bit larger than a stand alone External HDD (though by no means huge) , the USB Hub makes it worth while. It is as fast as a stand alone WD 8TB external HDD, and the excellent implementation of the USB Hub merits the 5 Star rating.

    Seagate won over WD

I origiinally purchased the Seagate 8TB version with the USB port but decided that it was overkill. I looked at WD drives but they have an encryption feature, which seems to give users a headache so I stayed clear of that. Frankly, neither the Seagate nor the WD drives are perfect with both having pros and cons but the Seagate seemed more user friendly. I backed up my iTunes library, which is over 3,000 songs and my MS Outlook .PST file and they write speed seems good. I hooked it up to my new LINKSYS EA9500 router, which worked well too. The big questions is..."What is the long-term reliability?" Only time will tell.

This external drive is an excellent buy. It plugs into a USB 3.0 port and also has 2 USB 3.0 ports of it's own, so you can plug 2 more devices into this drive. Add 8 TBs as the storage and you'll never need another external drive again.
