Solid HDD for Back-Ups at a Reasonable Price

Bought this external HDD to use as a Time Machine backup for our two MacBook Pros. HDD comes preformatted for windows, but as soon as I plugged it into my MacBook it identified it needed reformatting, prompted me to do it, and once done my computer started the process for getting it setup to use as my time machine backup destination. The HDD itself comes with multiple adapters for the electrical, which is pretty neat considering you could be in a world of hurt if you decided to relocate from one country to another. It also comes with the necessary data cord, and data recovery services if you need them. Product registration was super easy on the Seagate site, and I only paid $20 more than if I had bought it from Seagate on sale; bonus is that there was no waiting cause I picked-up, in-store same day. The extra $20 was worth it.
Both MacBooks had zero issue backing up to the drive, and it’s got plenty of space left. It does only have the one port option, so that does limit how quickly it transfers data. My old iomega drive had two different FireWire ports, a thunderbolt port, and USB. That said, even with the USB port this uses, it backs up about 500gb an hour, give or take, using Time Machine. It goes without saying, if you need faster transfer speeds, and have more cash to put down, a SSD will be quicker, but for purely back-up purposes? I’d say this is more than adequate for the average person.
Overall solid buy, and would def recommend.

Despite being labeled as a 14Tb external drive is actually has about 12.5Tb of storage. Read and Wright speeds are very slow. Transferring over my photo and video files its going at about 10-15Mbps. Says its going to take around 2.5 hours to transfer 400Gb. Neer mind the other 5Tb of storage I need to transfer to it. Not looking forward to how long its going to take for that, but when its only one project st a time down the road having it just as the backup storage drive will be fine. Would only really recommend this as a backup/master drive to hold everything so you can wipe your SSD’s to work off of.

I needed storage to move all my film footage for editing. This was it. This hard drive has enough storage and it’s faster than I thought.

I needed some drives to back up some data off of some other drives, these seem to work fine...So far so good, I have typically used Western Digital drives but this had bigger capacity and was on sale vs the Western Digital options...One drive was lost in shipping, but Best Buy made it right and quickly sent me a replacement. So far I'm happy with my purchase as I'm able to pay over 18 months without interest charges. I've had all WD drives aside from a couple small 150GB Seagate drives from a long time ago, file transfers have been moving smoothly with these Seagate 14TB drives giving me all the space I need to back everything up from some older smaller Western Digital drives. Recommend these drives? As of now, yes. I can definitely recommend these drives. Also, Best Buy really helped by getting me a replacement too, even though my data transfer situation has been delayed several days as there was a waiting period before I could request a replacement for the lost in transit situation, but once the waiting period was over, they shipped a replacement same day and it arrived 2 days later. Another thing about these drives is they seem to run a lot quieter than my Western Digital drives, which while noise isn't a big deal, I'm just surprised how much quieter these run, almost can't tell they are doing anything, and they seem to be built sturdy too which is always a plus in my opinion especially for backups which once backed up will be packed away until needed for more backups.

This hard drive is the ultimate answer to backup that I know is safe and hack proof since it is controlled by me and not subject to cloud interruptions or issues. It is easy to use, plugs in with USB port and I can leave un plugged when I an not using. The storage capacity is outstanding and no issues with storing or retrieving

Incredible amount of storage! It runs a little loud but it's not a big deal to me. I got this for a good discount when compared to places like Amazon and shipment was ok. The External HDD itself is very high capacity and works great for storing backup HD to 4k media and playing media off of it works perfectly fine.

The Seagate Expansion 14TB External Hard Drive has been a lifesaver! With its enormous storage capacity, I can finally back up all my files, photos, videos, and even my extensive media collection with room to spare. It’s plug-and-play, so setup was a breeze—just connect the USB, and it’s ready to go.
The data transfer speeds are impressive, especially for such a large drive, and it runs smoothly without any lag. I also appreciate that it’s compact and doesn’t take up much desk space. If you’re looking for reliable and spacious external storage, this Seagate drive is a fantastic choice. Highly recommend!

This 14TB expansion external disk drive Is perfect for my needs. I use it for my system backup destination drive on a Windows 10 computer. Except for this drive, my system has a total of 4 drives. My C: drive is a 1 TB SSD, F: drive is a 2 TB HDD, G: drive is an external 8 TB HDD and R: drive is a 4 TB HDD. That is a total of 15 TB OF SSD/HDD storage. These drives are nowhere near at capacity and have approximately 9 TB used space. So the 14 TB expansion external disk drive has ample space to backup all of my other drives. It interfaces to either a Mac or PC via a USB 3.0 port. When I received the drive, I reformatted the drive to a 14 TB FAT32 from an exFAT32 format with a third party’s tool to do so because Windows 10 disk formatting feature will only format a drive to a FAT32 format as long as the disk drive capacity is equal to or less than just under 4 TB and the FAT32 format is standard for PCs. The drive is originally formatted to exFAT32 at the factory in order to work with either a Mac or PC right out of the box. I wasn’t going to use the drive with a Mac and so I did what I have described. I’ve performed several full and incremental backups with this drive via USB 3.0 and it has worked flawlessly so far. I have yet to perform a restore from my backups and once I do, I’ll be able to enjoy the performance and versatility of the drive. I recommend this drive to everyone whom are looking to just expand the storage for their system or do backups as I do.

I've had much better long term performance with Seagate than Western Digital hard drives. Based on an Apple app called DriveDX, that monitors the hard drive's SMART attributes, the Western's health and performance starts to degrade in weeks of operation. While the Seagate's health takes over a year or more before SMART indicators show a slow down.
Also purchased this 14TB on sale at an amazing price.

Excellent drive. Pretty quiet for a spinning drive (although I actually like the sounds of spinning hard drives), very reliable, and quite fast for a spinning hard drive (I'm getting about 280 MB/s on large file transfers). Price was very good during the holiday / black Friday sales. I've always found Seagate drives to be the most reliable brand of spinning hard drives.

Own multiple of these hard drives, oldest being about 5 years old. Never had a problem using them as external storage and backup. They have lasted longer than my WD My Book external hard drives that have been popping up errors after about 4 years. Would recommend to anyone needing an external drive for moving bulk data around or for storage.

Works great so far for freeing up space on my smaller drives. The drive works as it should and I have not experienced anything that would make me think my files aren’t safe. It sits on my desk and I don’t keep it plugged in running constantly, only when I need to use it.
