Stylish, light, comfortable, WAY better than Beats

If you think Beats are the greatest thing since sliced bread, my review probably isn't going to sway you enough to get you to buy these over the ever-popular Beats. But if you're willing to take the risk of being shunned by your friends, you will find your ears to be greatly rewarded. I will start off by saying that you need a decent source of music. Playing 128Kbps music is going to sound terrible, but that's because it is terrible. You'll want 256Kbps minimum, 320Kbps is better, FLAC and ALAC is the optimum. You can hear poorly-done recordings and cheap files with these headphones, so don't waste your time buying expensive headphones and listen to junky files. Stick with $20 Walmart specials. Next I'm going to say that blast these is just dumb. You're sticking speakers right over your ears and blasting at high volumes, which will damage the fragile structure of your ears and can lead to tinnitus. But if you want to spend the rest of your life listening to a whining/ringing noise, to the point where you can't fall asleep without background noises, then please blast away. It won't enhance the listening experience, only damage your ears and ruin your ability to hear fine differences in music. The plus side to that is that you can buy the worst headphones possible, because it'll all sound the same. Woo. Now let me get off my high horse and get on the topic of the awesome headphones. The first thing that becomes apparent when you open these, is that Sennheiser really cared about the design. These don't look like shoddy plastic headphones which will crack and discolor. No, these have a slight retro look while using high quality components. It also comes with two cables, one for phone control and the other is a straight cable. Both are fairly long for mobile use. Once you plug into the aforementioned quality music source, you will quickly discovered that these headphones have a very pronounced bass. It's quite boomy, but still tight and punchy enough that it won't be mistaken for a certain rapper's headphones. After around 15 hours of listening time, they become much punchier and the bass does not seem to dominate the listening experience. It is definitely these, but the mids and highs still sound great. Speaking of mids and highs, you will quickly discover the benefit of buying high end headphones: that you can truly appreciate the music. Things that you take for granted in music, the instruments, are much easier to listen to and analyze. You have hear as the guitarist strums or plucks on the strings, as the drummer taps the cymbals or strikes the drums, as the bassists runs his fingers up and down the four strings. The music truly comes alive as you analyze the details, letting it wash over you, rather than letting a bunch of inarticulate noise be thrown into your ears. You can appreciate the dedication and talent of the artists. While these are closed-back headphones, they are on-ear headphones. Very comfortable ones that use memory foam, at that. But what this ends up translating to, is that the are not going to block a lot of outside noise. And turning up the volume to block out outside noise isn't the solution, so if you're going to be in a loud place(aircraft, work place, driving), you may find that a set of noise-canceling headphones will suit you better.

Man I really like this headphone . I can wear it for hours and never really notice I have it on . It is really very comfortable and light which is the first thing I look for in a headphone because if it does not pass this test I will not buy it no matter how it sounds . Now about the sound , well if you like a headphone that sounds a little warm without any hint of harshness then you have come to the right place . The treble is a little rolled off at the top but it still has enough bite to keep the listener interested which is something I would prefer instead of a treble that calls too much attention to itself which is something I would grow tired of very quickly . Now on to the midrange , it is a little pushed back into the mix but not enough to get lost in the music , to be honest , I think it could have been pushed up a little bit more , but I would rather have like this then have in my face calling too much attention to itself . Lastly comes the bass and I have to tell you the quality is very good , not boomy in the least , but there is a little too much it . Funny tho , the bass does not really distract me from enjoying most music I listen to but there are some recordings I have which I own that are bass heavy and this headphone can get a little annoying , but these occaisons are few and far between , all in all dispite the few shortcommings , the things that it does well really out weight them where I definitely can recommend these headphones without any hesitation what so ever .

I have a set of NAD Viso HP50 Headphones which I love on there expansive sound but sometimes the lower end is missed with certain genre of music. So one day while knowing I was going to have to wait sitting at a doctors office I forgot my good In ear headphones. I stopped by best buy and went to look for the Momentums. Mind you there is 2 versions of this Senheiser model which has a big price difference. I got the 150.00 dollar version which does not have the leather stitched head band and is not over ear design ( price varies now between both models). I wasn't ready to spend another 300 plus like the NAD because I have seen some comparisons between these 2 models and some preferred the NAD's because of the detail and some preferred the momentums because of the lowered end detail. But I do have to say I am quite impressed with the Momentum on ear model. They are very comfortable and have an open ear feel that I didn't think I would like. The more I took them on and off the better I liked them. I did try both units and at the time I did not have my Hi-Res files in the player( FiiO X5 which I highly recommend also) to really compare them with. The more I sampled the music genres I have with Momentums the better I liked them. Now I use them almost all the time regularly and keep the Viso HP50s mostly for plane travel since they are way more isolated and do have the wider range and more detailed sound. But for the price difference the Momentums are a sure bet and recommendation to buy. If you are a bass head you might like these but don't expect the overwhelming style like Monsters "Beats" line where it screams mass marketing for bass designed heaphones. Give the Momentums on ear unit a shot . I think you will be impressed. I will definitely be looking to purchase the Over ear models and testing with Hi-Resolution files. If they sounded good with just lossy sounding mp3 files. they should definitely sound far better with Hi-Resolution lossless music.

These are not over-ear monitor headphones designed to provide accurate sound. These are great sounding street headphones, with an emphasis on bass (classy though, not Beats obnoxious) and aesthetics. Meant for use in noisy environments. Open your car window with the radio playing and you notice the first thing to go is the bass- so an emphasis there is perfect for the city, buses, planes and the hardest test I can think of- mowing the grass. That said Sennheiser is know for amazing audio quality and this is no exception. They look terrific in all color schemes ( I have black and red) and is a good way to indicate your taste level- I care about great sound and looking sharp but am not joining the flimsy, supper bass heavy Beats majority. Built to take a beating but they don't fold, so it's around the neck, on your head, in it's enormous carrying case, or bust.

I love the sound quality, awesome price too.All my music sounds so much better them my old head phones. i had a pair of beats and sony's that cost more.its nice to hear music the way it was suppose to sound instead of a lot of boom bass with little bit of highs thrown in.the highs and mids are played the way they were made for you to hear. put those phones on ans see if you don't bring a pair home with you.

I've had these for a little over a month and I love them. I can't wear in-ear headphones, and while "sport" headphones are good, I wanted something with better sound quality and durability. This is my first pair of on-ear headphones and I'm very happy I made the switch. I'm a little rough on them - they just go right in my bag when not in use - but you'd never know to look at them. Do not buy these if you're looking for noise cancellation - as a city girl I like to be aware of what's going on around my so I did not want noise cancellation, and these headphones are perfect for giving me an enjoyable listening experience without cutting me off from the world around me. The one drawback is that after a few hours, my ears get a little sore from being pressed between the headphones and my head. It hasn't been much of a bother, I just shift them every now and then and all is well.

Let me preface this when I say that I read the ON EAR part of the label first. I really like the sound on these headphones. I'm not someone who loves deafening bass. I prefer something that can play back bass lines without muddying the rest of the frequencies and this does a great job. The rest of the frequencies are reproduced well and I'll put my money behind these over any Beats headphones any day. In the sound department, these perform very well and I wouldn't hesitate to drop ninety bucks on this again (price match and a coupon). Now, the reason why this gets a four instead of five: the fit. I truly wish that the ON EAR part was understood a little better during the design process and there was some way to relieve it. I don't have an overly large head and it's frankly an average sized head. It sounds great, but it's not great for my ears for extended listening. I've tried adjusting it multiple times, to include sliding it up and down and adjusting the tension a little bit. I have to take it off for at least half an hour if I'm planning on listening to it for more than a couple of hours at a time. I would've preferred to keep it on consistently, but it doesn't do me much of a favor when I have to plan for headphone use when I'm trying to work. I loved them, but the fit was just not right for me. For those interested in buying it, try to see if there are any pairs on the store to try while you listen to some music. I'm a fan of it, but I would try to listen to something for a little bit longer than running through a few headphones to compare the sound. That's also important, but examine the fit for a longer period of time. Either way, be deliberate and methodical in how you test it and try to recreate your own listening conditions (to include the variety of music and an extended listening time over 5 minutes) as much as it is permissible in your store. I found a deal on an Audio Technica ATH-M50x and I've been using it for the last month since I've returned this one. Great job, Sennheiser, but it's not your fault. You can't make a one-size-fits-all unit fit everyone. Otherwise, it's a very well adjustable unit that never sat well on my ears. Maybe the over-the-ear model would've worked better. However, it's a little bit out of my reach for now.

While not an audiophile, I love listening to music while traveling. These headphones were chosen due to it's classic look. Produces great sound for all ranges of music. The option to have the cables become removable is a great feature. Highly recommended.

I'm not much of an audiophile, but I thought a nice pair of headphones would help me enjoy some new music I had recently purchased. These Sennheiser Momentums came highly recommended on Engadget, and when I tried them on they felt more comfortable than anything else. They are light, and the padding feels like memory foam. They feel secure without feeling tight, and the sound is excellent.

Wonderful headphone if you actually like to hear music. With price break they cannot be beaten. Read the reviews and you will see. Elegant appearance, very light and very comfortable. At current prices a no brainer for when you want to listen to real music not just booming bass and piercing highs.

I like the sound of the headphones and because it was on sale very much worth the price. I have a wide assortment of headphones and these are probably third or fourth favorite behind Philips Fidelio X1 and Sennheiser Amperior. I highly recommend these over Beats and made out of much stronger quality materials.

These On-Ear Headphones are spectacular!!! When it comes to headphones, On-Ear's are usually the most challenging to engineer in a way that doesn't make them sound congested. Well Sennheiser has done a beautiful job of tuning these cans. Even though these are portable the space and sound separation rivals even some Over-Ear models. These Momentums have a slightly resessed midrange and equally balanced lows and highs, providing an overall open sound with just the right amount of bump. They are remarkable right out of the box. Highly recommended!
