I was looking for a step-up in sound quality from my Bose qc15's when, after considerable research, I finally settled on the hd600's. These sound better than I expected, even though the many reviews tried to communicate a sound quality that is superior, if you've never heard anything as good as they are describing then you have no reference point to which to bring context to their comments. Now I have that context and let me tell you these are well worth the money and with Best Buy I have all the confidence that you would expect from a reputation that is noteworthy in providing high end electronics to the masses. These are a must have in every category, I will be buying a second pair for my son so we can enjoy listening together.

The sound from these headphones is amazing. They are incredibly comfortable and cover the entire ear, rather than clamp on to your earholes. Just keep in mind, they are 300ohm headphones so they do need an amp if you are hooking them up to a computer or cell phone.

these have been around forvever and i just recently decided to buy them. i would describe these as neutral with slight warmth. at first listen they were a little soft but after burn in, getting right amp/source and getting acclimated to its sound i feel theyre actually pretty resolving yet non fatiguing. so these continue to scale up with better gear. they may be soft compared to higher end flagships but they do not share their same faults ie being too bright or too warm. i prefer these over the hd650 and hd800 because theyre more balanced and make you forget youre listening with headphones. while the other two have a strong sound signature that can get in the way. ive bought other flagships with buyers remorse but these at $288 was the best price/performance purchase ive made.

These headphones have an amazingly clear and natural sound. But I would say it can come off as too precise. At times when listening to certain songs I'd find myself looking for that energetic/fun sound I'd get with a few other products. But its a small sacrifice for the great wide sound you get in other areas.

I purchased these for my son, who works as a sound engineer. He has been very pleased with these.

Looked and several different headphones and felt these were worth the money. They didn't disappoint.

Great sounding headphones. These don't have exaggerated bass like some headphones out there, but have a very natural response across the frequency range. The response is smooth, and not tiring at all. I find the headphones comfortable to wear even after extended listening sessions. One drawback is that the pads along the band flatten over time (note: I wear these for 4+ hours a day and have had them for years, so this may not be typical). Also, these are high impedence headphones so you'll want to use a headphone amp to get the most out of them.

Just received a terrific surprise from the big brown truck, the Sennheisers are here. I happened to be listening to music on the speakers and was about 1/2 way through Stairway to Heaven. Got these babies unboxed and plugged in right away, restarted the song and i am very pleased. Went back to the Creative Aurvana Live headphones and the Sennheisers produce some sounds in the cymbals that the Aurvana Live do not have, I would also describe the sound to be more well defined. Maybe there is just more details that can be heard. I have used the Aurvana Live headphones for several years and have always liked them a lot, but the 600's certainly reveal more details in the music. Trying them on the iPad right now and I am satisfied with this too, can't really discern much difference compared to the AVR, But there could be some crispness difference in the cymbals. Might also be my imagination on this. To get about the same loudness as the creative headphones requires 2/3 volume vs 1/2 volume. The sound is still better defined and more clear compared to the Aurvana Live headphones. Admittedly I do not listen to headphones real loud and I have only been listening for about 45 minutes but I am not hearing anything listening on the iPad that would make me hesitate to make a strong positive recommendation that these work fine. I seldom use my phone for music but thought I would give it a try, sounds different than the iPad and the AVR but the phone sounds different with the Creative headphones too compared to the iPad and the AVR. Different is not necessarily bad, just different. I am on the third song using the phone and I have just about forgotten it sounds different. Nothing I am hearing is objectionable to me. Music on the home system (Pioneer VSX 23) is mostly .wav files on a hard drive connected via USB. Music on the iPad is MP3s mostly @ 320Kb. Music on my Galaxy II phone is MP3s @ VBR max 256Kb. I had read elsewhere that indicated the lynch mob would be summoned if these were connected to a phone or iPod and even an AVR was of questionable value. In my limited session I certainly do not find any issues with using these with a portable device or an AVR.

I'm an audiophile and LOVE these headphones. I've been a big follower of Sennheiser for a very long time and own several of their headphones with these being the best so far I've picked up. These are not Beats, they are an open can. Natural sound is key here and they do it very, very well. They will have bass but it's not over done and sounds like what it should. These need an amp to get the most out of them. Currently using a Schiit DAC and headphone amp combo but will be moving to Burson for a warmer sound overall. Also these are very comfortable. I can wear them for hours and still feel like I have nothing on my head. If you are serious about music, and love good sound and want something that is natural sounding then these are for you. Only reason for the 4 for durability is that you do need to be careful with them. They are not really a toy however you can get replacement parts if needed. I always use a headphone stand when not in use and make sure they are in a smoke/child free room like all my audio gear.

The raves here and elsewhere on the web are all rightly given to the HD 600. This is a reference transducer in the most classic sense of the term. Even after being around for 20 years it holds its own in the modern market. The nice thing is that as accurate as it sounds it is also highly musical with a wide soundstage and minimal distortion. You'll here things on your recordings you've missed. I'm sure the higher level Sennheiser HD 700 & 800 give even more resolution, detail and frequency extension ( for a serious increase in price) but I don't get the feeling much is missing from the impact and enjoyment of the music. Current sale pricing on line makes the HD 600 a outright bargain. I'll make some comparisons with the highly regarded HD 598 I also have handy which comes in at about $150 less or so. My music is mainly classical, jazz and classic rock & pop. With the 600 listening to voices gives increased presence to the singer in an acoustic space, You hear resonances in the singer's head and chest. The 598 gives you a pleasant vocal sound but the there's not really a human body attached to it. On the 600 piano comes across more as a large, wooden percussive instrument. The 598 gives a nice piano sound that sounds similar from recording to recording but not really percussive. Brush work on the cymbals in a small jazz assemble on the 600 comes across with proper harmonics, with brassy shimmering and with decay. You get a cymbal type of sound with the lesser can but it's missing some of its distinct "brass" character. I think you get the idea. The HD 600 adds so much more to the listening experience without noticeable distortion or overt coloration. You hear the recorded space as intended by the sound engineer. Which is why these seem to be a favorite studio monitor with the engineers. To sum up the experience, imagine listening to live music there in the audience in that acoustic space with the 600 and then getting up and moving out the slightly open back door and down the hall 50 feet on the 598. Unfortunately, if the recording is not the greatest with the 600s you'll hear it warts and all. Conversely, your best recordings will shine and give you chills. The 598 is more comfortable initially and maybe has a more solid feel to the plastic body but the 600 gets more comfy with use and the money gets put into the transducer parts not the upholstered headband or "wood" trim. It sounds like I'm knocking the 598. Not at all. For the price, they are a very pleasant, well built, enjoyable listen. But, if you want to hear more from your vinyl, CD or digital file collections try the 600. It may be the last headphone you'll ever need to buy. Certainly under $500. For reference, I'm driving these with a modest mid level Rega turntable, Clearaudio MM cartridge & a Musical Fidelity phono stage for vinyl and the Oppo BDP-103 for digital sources all out through the earphone jack on a current, higher end Marantz AV receiver.

These are fantastic headphones. After owning these, it is easy to see why they are so highly recommended. If you have a mostly quiet environment and a headphone amp these will suit you well. They have a very open sound stage and sound great with most genres of music. Sometimes I have to take them off to make sure my speakers aren't playing. If you're considering these, they're definitely worth getting. You won't be disappointed unless you already have something at this level or higher (HD 650, hifiman he-400, etc.) Because of these, I'm done buying headphones until I can afford to drop at least $1000 on a set.

These headphones are just amazing, the sound quality is unbelievable! Very realistic and the bass is killer, love them!

Over the years I have owned some very esoteric speakers and I also had a set of Stax ear speakers. I found my self back 30 plus years listening more to the equipment and not the music. It was an obsession. I bought these on sale with the Dragonfly black 1.5. Excellent combination. Now I can sit in my study and put my feet up and listen to the music.
