    Good for In-between Vacuuming

The Ion Robot Vacuum by Shark is a small self-directed robot vacuum. Its uses Auto-Sense Navigation to learn its way around your floor space. Complete with an app and voice controls through an assistant like Alexa or Google Assistant, it is the next level of robot vacuuming. I found this product helpful to keep my floor cleaner, but it’s not a complete substitution for manually vacuuming. What It Comes With The vacuum comes with the main unit, a charging dock, some extra side brushes, an extra filter, and a roll of BotBoundary material. There’s a very small amount of assembly that requires you to snap on two of the side brushes (very quick and easy). It Has an App This model is equipped for WiFi and has an app. The app is available on both the App Store and Google Play. I tested the Android version, and it worked really well. You can start and stop the vacuum, schedule times and days to run, and even name your robot. There are also voice controls that you can use through Alexa or the Google Assistant. I have not tried those yet. Preparation You do need to prepare the area that the vacuum will be cleaning. You can’t have obstacles in the way if you want it to do its job. I was a little bummed about the prep at first, but really it’s the same if you manually vacuumed your floor, so there’s not really any extra work. Mine worked well with my rugs and over transition strips between rooms. Things like clothes, rug fringe, or shoelaces would probably be a showstopper for this product. The Charging Dock Charging the vacuum is as simple as letting the sensors of the vacuum align with the sensors on the docking station. The vacuum will park itself at the charging dock and charge its battery on its own. Finally, something I don’t have to remember to charge before I use it. The dock is an L-shaped plastic piece that’s intended to sit flat against the wall and plug into a nearby outlet. The only real specific requirements for charging are that the charging dock has required clearances to the front and at both sides. This is so that the vacuum won’t be obstructed getting back to the charging dock when it is finished with its task. The problem that I have with the clearances is that it wants 3 feet to each side of the dock (almost 7 feet in total) and 5 feet in front of the dock to be clear. And you’ll need a wall outlet there too. That’s a lot of floor space, and my house has a lot of stuff along the walls, so this was difficult for me. I’d like to see this clearance requirement reduced a little. Using the Vacuum I started by hitting the Clean button on the top of the vacuum, and then I watched it work for an hour. The Auto-Sense Navigation uses several sensors to learn the area that you are cleaning. It basically picks a direction and goes until it bumps into something. Then it turns and goes in another direction. There doesn’t appear to be a reasoning for its path, but it just keeps going. I was hoping that this would be smarter and have an established pattern. After an hour I noticed that it didn’t always clean completely on the first pass, and it may not make it back to cover it a second time. There were also areas that were missed. The second time I cleaned I tried starting with the app. The app was pretty easy to use, and seemed to have all of the features that I could think of. It ran for an hour, and the floor surfaces did look better. Some of the same areas missed the first time were missed again. The pattern for cleaning didn’t really adapt to be more efficient. At the 30-minute mark the vacuum got stuck between a chair and a child’s toy. I told it to return to the dock, and it spent 30 minutes trying to go back to the charging dock. All said and done it ran for an hour, and the dust bin was full, so it did help. Also to note, I ran the vacuum while our toddler was upstairs sleeping, so the vacuum isn’t extremely loud. If you’re in the room you’ll hear it, but you can still watch TV or talk. Disposing of waste Sorry, the vacuum hasn’t learned how to empty itself yet so you’ll still need to do this part. It accumulates everything in the detachable dust bin. The dust bin is pretty small, so I’d recommend emptying it out after each use. You should also tap the dust off of the filter. Be careful when emptying the dust bin as the back side is open and the dirt can fall out. I learned the hard way on that one. Here is a quick list of Pros and Cons. Pros *Anything that helps me clean is a plus. *Has a way to schedule the cleaning. *Has an app which previous versions did not. *Have added voice controls for Alexa and Goggle Assistant. *Recharges itself on its charging dock. *Sound is not very loud while cleaning. *Has a manual button to start or dock on the top if nearby. Cons *Have to be careful that is doesn’t roll over many things – cords, toys, clothes, etc. *Not a lot of BotBoundary strips. Would like to see more in the package. *Suction doesn’t pick up everything on the first pass. *Vacuum pattern is spastic and unpredictable. *Misses parts of the area that it should be cleaning *Sometimes gets stuck for minutes in corners *Takes a while to find the base sometimes. *Base requires a lot of clearance around it per the instructions. *Small dust bin capacity (though understandable due to the robot’s size). I’m giving the Shark ION Robot 3 stars. It does seem to help pick up debris on the floor. I like the fact that it can charge itself, has an app to run it, and isn’t really loud. However, it’s not extremely reliable to clean every part of the floor, sometimes it gets stuck, and you still need to watch what it’s doing. I think that this product is helpful to keep things cleaner, but it is no substitute for a manual cleaning with a normal vacuum. This is a good supplementary cleaning product that could help keep the floors cleaner until you can tend to it yourself.

I have mixed feelings about this vacuum, I have all hardwood floors and need cleaning every single day so I figured I try something like this out, very impressed of what it picks up, not so impressed it gets stuck easily, you have to have a clear path of obstacles cleared out of it way and set the schedule for it to work when you’re not home because all you hear is bumping on walls and stuff granted I got the cheaper one because this things are expensive, but this particular model keeps getting stuck on its dock so I have a bunch of Notification that it did not clean because it’s stuck on its own dock i also I find it very frustrating when it returns to the dock to recharge it starts heading that way and it just out of nowhere spins around and goes the opposite way I find that very frustrating it will eventually find it but when it’s close to it without touching anything it’s spins around and go the opposite way!

We had a roomba for almost 3 years, it was given to us as a gift and needed a major replacement that was on back order. So I ordered this shark for the in between. What a downgrade. The app is HORRIBLE and rarely works to connect, then at random times it will send a delayed signal and start cleaning. Like 2am, when you tried to send it out at 9am the previous morning. Alerts are horrible, the shark starts beeping but the app delays telling you why. 90% of the time, its the front bumper getting stuck because it bangs into items. It is quiter then the roomba thats its only plus in my opinion.

It doesn’t have room mapping. It kinda just randomly goes around the room; but is picks stuff up. I upgraded to a model with room mapping when I realized I was out of the return window.

First robot vac I've had. I have a bad back so thought this would help. Kind of disappointed that it can't be controlled via a remote or my phone. It also misses spots and need a lot of assistance to get it to change couse to get it to do all of the floor. Cleans ok but cleaning dirt and hair out of the unit after it is done is quite a process. Not as convenient as I'd hoped.

It does the job, but it bounces around everywhere and has no sense to how it cleans. For the low cost, if you manage your expectations, it is worth it.

After reading reviews on several products for several hours, I chose the Shark R76.. Immediately after opening the box I found that the magnetic strip and spare air filter were not in the box. I figured someone removed them for themselves... No big deal. I just want to get this puppy going. I can get some more later on. Setting it up was a breeze. Getting it started was extremely simple. The lists of positives notes goes on. But... There is a quality defect with this unit which has absolutely rendered it just about useless and a huge pain in the rear to utilize. The front bumper will jam when pressed into the body at certain angles. The unit sees this jam and stops. It happens over and over and over again. There is no resetting it until I physically pull the bumper away from the body and get it going again.. Just to have the same issues again 15 minutes later. This machine is going back to Best Buy. I'll update my review after getting a replacememt.

Drives over carpet with no problem. Gets stuck on and under furniture all the time. Easy to set up. Sometimes has trouble docking itself and takes a while to find its dock.

Had it for less than 24 hours. Kept bumping into walls and couldn’t find the charging station. It did have great suction, but because it does not have mapping ability, it just randomly rolls around. It didn’t sense my cats food dish, and like a monster truck, it backed up and drove over the dish. Had to grab it and clean it out because now it had wet cat food in it. Brought it back for an iRobot Roomba 960.

I bought this to use on my hard wood floors and it does okay. The one thing I don’t like about it is that it bounce around everywhere. And I have to run it like five times to hope it hit every spot. Or I’ll have to guide it to where it needs to go.

For the first week this shark did a great job but then kept bumping into things and stopping. Had to find it and start it back up again. Was very easy to setup. Took awhile for it to map the house. After 10 days we returned it and got a Shark - IQ Robot Self-Empty XL RV1001AE. Almost the same issues with this one. It worked great in the first week but then it started bumping into items causing the sensor on right side to jam. This caused the shark to just stop. Had to find it and restart. After two weeks we returned it. We loved that this was a bagless self emptying device. I believe it's a good product just need some more tweaking to the technology... Could also be a little user error on my part as well.
