Impressive and BIG

This TV had just about everything I was looking for: giant screen, 240Hz, 3D, Full HD, lots of inputs and the list goes on. While I was slightly more impressed with the Samsung picture quality, partially due to its glossy (versus the Sharp's matte) screen and overall picture brilliance, I quickly got over it because without having the two sets side-by-side, you quickly forget the differences. The picture is vibrant and highly adjustable. I borrowed some calibration settings someone posted on the interwebs and after eliminating some oversaturated factory-default reds, I think the picture looks gorgeous. HDMI 4 is MHL-compatible meaning that my separately purchased Roku stick can be controlled through the TV. However, it doesn't seem to work...but that's a separate issue -- in theory, the technology is there and should be capable of handling it. I haven't been able to get the ARC to function properly yet either whereby I have something plugged directly into the TV, but want the sound to come out of my receiver. It's a minor issue that really only affects a device I rarely use (though this could prove troublesome if/when I get my Roku stick to work).
Setup was easy, but I rarely use the built-in internet functions. I primarily use an AppleTV, Roku, TiVo, PC or PS3 for most web-based or streaming services -- especially given that the response time in loading and operating the TV's offerings can be quite slow.
I was slightly disappointed that Best Buy's model is the low-end version of this particular model. The main difference (Costco sells the slightly better version) is mostly the lack of Sharp's Quad-pixel-something-or-other technology. It's intended to improve the 3D quality as well as overall picture quality. Would it have made a massive difference...probably not, but I tend to like having the latest and greatest (except in the case where I'd have to wait 5 years to get an overly expensive 4K TV -- this will hold me over in the meantime).
The TV, despite having read that matte screens surprisingly do the opposite, performs really well in a sunny room right next to a window. I never have issues struggling to see the picture. In the store, next to the Samsung, the picture looked a little flat due to the screen, but again, in my home without anything to compare with side-by-side, I'd never know the difference.
3D playback is pretty impressive. Although we've seen the movie 50 times, Tangled in 3D was a revelation for my 4 year old daughter. I couldn't help but laugh aloud when she reached out to grab the floating lanterns. Given that the 3D glasses have to be purchased separately and that Universal glasses are not an option, we did struggle to get them to stay on her little face, but we made due. I do wish that there was an option for kids, haven't found one yet, as the switchable nosepiece they offer with the glasses made little difference. There is also a brightness enhacing option for 3D playback which seemed to make a difference in what can often be a dimmed experience with active lenses. There was some ghosting, but in extremely limited cases and I think it had to do more with the movie than the set or glassesd themselves. Animation tends to do fare better than live action, but after awhile you adjust. It's fun, but expensive to share with others given that each set of glasses is $50 and then you have to trust a child not to break them in some cases.
As mentioned, inputs are plentiful in the sense that the majority of my components run through either an HDMI switcher and/or the receiver itself...so in reality, I only really use one TV input. The sound that comes from the TV is surprisingly loud. On one or two occasions I was startled by the unexpected audio that came on when I switched sources. Needless to say though, it won't replace a quality receiver and surround speakers.
I've got an XBOX 360, PS3 and Wii U all hooked up and they look brilliant on the screen...even my wife a technophobe and non-gamer was impressed and wanted to get in on the action when I was playing.
Although I still feel that Samsung's picture quality is superior overall, for the price, you can't beat the size. I'm glad I decided to get the extra 10" of screen real estate over a perceived gain in picture quality. Given that I upgraded from a 60" rear-projection LCD Sony from 2003, I couldn't really go wrong -- anything was an upgrade. After taxes, etc, this ended up being a little more than I wanted to spend, but as something that I hope will last 6-7 years, I think I made a great choice that should carry me through to the next generation of televisions. I'm actually doing more watching on the TV again versus my tablet devices. It's an enjoyable experience to watch and makes television and gaming fun for me again.

Great but I shouldn't need a new tv for 8+ years. Solid investment if you can get a steal of a price like I was able to.

The picture quality is fantastic with lots of setting to adjust to get it to look great in your space. Entry price is high compared to other comparable sized TV but is a 240 mhz refresh and 3d. If those don't interest you then there are other low price points available.
There are several built in apps including Skype, Netflix, Hulu Plus, and Youtube. Has already been 2 firmware updates that have added additional apps since I first purchased so there could even be more on the way. There is a web browser that defaults to the Sharp website and took a bit of reading in the manual to figure out how to navigate away for their site.
It is a 3d TV though I have not tried the 3d yet as it was not a major focus for my purchase. Price of glasses are expensive however and something to keep in mind with a 3d TV.
Sound out of built in speakers is not great but if your in the market for this kind of TV you probably already have one or are looking at a sound bar.
Would have given a 4.5 if the option was there as the only bad things I noticed was built in sound and the price is high but otherwise a great TV and I would recommend it.

I had purchased a Sharp 745U prior to owning this 845U. I really liked the 745, but it developed a solid blue verticle line after I owned it for about 11 months. Both Best Buy and Sharp were excellent to deal with for the return. I took pictures of the problem with my cell phone and emailed them with a return form that they had emailed me and within 3 days and allowed me full credit for my original purchase price. Since Sharp was no longer making the 745, I ordered an 845. The 845 is significantly improved from the 745. It has a higher refresh rate which noticibly improves the 3D performance and the sound is also better than on the 745 though I still use a soundbar with subwoofer. The internet connectivity is also better on this unit. I would not hesitate to purchase this product again and my return experience with both Best Buy and SHarp was exceptional. They really stood behind their product.

I was hesitant to purchase this at a brick and mortar establishment because I knew it would be less expensive on line. Then I was informed of the new 'price match' policy at Best Buy, which made the decision to 'buy local' and support the local economy much more appealing. And then factor in the reward zone rebate and other benefits....it's a no brainer!
The TV is excellent. Setup was a breeze once I got the 2nd generation HDMI cable to connect the surround sound receiver. (No picture with the 1st generation cable) Picture quality is as good as friends sets costing much more than this one. Watching sports is fantastic! The remote controls all of the components without setup, even though the all three are from different manufacturers. I do recommend using a sound system other than the built in speakers. I replaced a 5 year old Panasonic plasma set that had great sound, so maybe I was spoiled. 3D is enjoyable when used, but so far that is not often. Internet surfing is cumbersome, but that is not why I bought the set. One other issue I have is I find myself watching TV/movies more than before. but I don't think that is a problem with the set, necessarily.
Buy it, you'll like it!

This is an overall excellent TV. There are many apps to enjoy with topics you didn't even know you were interested in. The USB ports make watching video on hard drives a snap. The picture is HDelicious. The 240 Hz really show during video games, etc. BUT once in a while the 3D shows shadowing or tracers or whatever they are called. Also, there is sometimes a sync issue between the sound and picture. In other words. sometimes the voices in movies or TV are 'off' I am unsure if this is entirely the TV's fault but still, it has happened across many inputs. 70" seems big at first until you get used to it, then you'll want the 80" or even 90" because you are a consumer like me and feel compelled to buy things you don't need.
Cheers.

I recently purchased this TV for our family room. When I first turned it on we were very disappointed by the picture quality. Everything looked fake, even the best movies like Star Wars, Batman, Matrix, looked like they were filmed by an amateur. After a month I finally got sick of it and utilized the Calibration Service that BB offers Silver RZ members. It was a revolutionary change. The TV after calibration was amazing, the colors were perfect, the brightness, and everything about the picture was Ideal.
The best part about this TV is the 3d.....It takes movies to a different level. The depth of picture and the images truly come to life. I initially through 3d was a gimmick.....I was dead wrong, it is the best way to watch movies.

I found a few online setting to get the color correct on the TV. the Out of the box settings are a bit too stark. Overall the TV has been excellent. HD Football and other sports are very realistic. Ging to try the 3D this weekend, but I really do not plan to use the 3D feature a lot.

After alot of research I chose the Sharp 70 inch 845u. The TV did not dissapoint. I have been very happy with the picture and of couse the size of the 70 inch screen. One note of caution to everyone who buys this TV. When you get it home; simply turn off the Motion Enhancement capability to the off setting and then enjoy. With motion enhancement set to "On" you will get some Motion blur. I am happy to report that with it set to "Off" there is no motion blur at all. I have watched, Hockey, Golf, Tennis and Football with no motion blur issues. I would have given 5 stars if it wasn't for this issue. I had to call the aquos help center to find this out. Call them if you have any issues as they are very helpful. Great TV! I also gave an average sound rating as I don't use the TV speakers as this set is hooked up to a surround sound system. I tried the TV speakers and they are average at best.

It should be noted that this model TV is an LCD not LED, according to the manual that came with the TV. In any event it is a beautiful picture!
To counteract the sound quality I also purchased a Samsung sound bar and wireless sub woofer which makes the sound great as well. I have the TV sound turned off.
Although I found some Internet deals which quoted a cheaper price for this TV, I felt more confident purchasing this at Best Buy due to free set up and problem solving issues available.. In addition, Sharp has a toll-free help number which was very helpful also.
Please note that if you use a sound bar, do not place it on the base of the TV as it blocks the infrared remote signals.
I have on this TV for a month and like it more and more each day. I have yet to try the 3-D feature. If the TV is any measure of quality, then the 3-D should be great.

70" Sharp 240Hz 3D smart TV was a wonderful choice with great picture out of box.... I have yet to "professionally have it calibrated" . We really enjoy the 3D channels and sports of ESPN3D on our Directv and the ease in making that transition from 2D to 3D. The glasses were $$ but worth it.... Connected to my home theater speakers gives me the sound, and look I was hoping for. The GEEK Squad - actually it was just one guy... was great and knowledgeable.... I would have had trouble hooking up all the components myself and getting my "built in" components to connect properly... I love this TV!!!

This is the 4th Sharp AQUOS I've purchased. I have a 19, 32, 52 and now this 70". The picture quality and 3D are fabulous. I think the extra $ for the 800 series was the right choice. It's almost too real. The team members at Best Buy were great to work with. You won't be disappointed.

The picture quality is excellent. There are a lot of features on this television, such as 3D which is really good. Best Buy came and set it up and I am able to have the Geek squad come and adjust it at no charge any time within a year. This is good on the part of Best Buy.

It is a great 3D HDTV for the price. Excellect Picture Quality and good sound for a flat screen, although I hooked my up to the surround sound in the house. Easy to mount on to the wall. It has 4 HDMI inputs. With being a smart TV being able to connect to the internet, the possiblities are endless for what this TV can do. I'm ready for the Super Bowl now.

Great TV, color was a bit hash out of the ox but after a few days of tweaking got it to look perfect. Action Sports are very clear and sharp. Movies also appear more real than in theater. I've only used the 3D for a few moments but seemed pretty cool, 3D will not be my main viewing mode.

I have been shopping for an LED TV for well over a year and after reading countless reviews, talking with various sales people, friends, etc.. I decided to purchase the Sharp 70" LED, and after having this for an entire month, I have absolutely no regrets whatsoever. The picture quality is fantastic and the 240hz refresh rate makes this great for watching fast action sports like hockey.

overall very nice tv i have had it now for a month and really enjoy it very much. there is some motion blurr when watching hockey i thought with a 240 hertz tv i would'nt get that. guess i'll have to research that a little more maybe i don't have it set to the right setting . but overall very nice tv great size and not to bad a price. the 3d is great. just like going to the movies. one thing i do intend to do is have this tv calibrated i think that might help with the motion blurr.
