The safety is great, but set up wasn’t quite as “simple” as I hoped. The nice thing about the SimpliSafe packages is that all the pieces come preconfigured in the box to work together. The base station will automatically sync with the keypad, entry sensors, and motion sensors. You can later add pieces as you want to add smoke detection, temperature monitoring, glass shattering, and water detection. I wish this kit had come with glass shattering sensors, but I know it will be an easy item to add in the future. Once installed, the batteries on the individual devices are supposed to work for several years and the pieces themselves seem built to last. The base station is a bit bigger than I expected, but it reaches the entire house. Physical installation of the system is easy. The only piece that has to be plugged in to an outlet is the base station. The other pieces adhere in place with 3M tape that does a good job keeping the pieces where you want them. However, the motion sensors needed their tape in a different spot as you can’t stick them to the corner with the current tape placement. You also have the option of screwing the pieces in if the 3M tape isn’t secure enough for you. But most people will probably be fine using the 3M tape. Setting up the software was a bit more confusing than I would like. The entry key also functions as a usb setup device for the system. You plug the key into a computer and the software walks you through the process and then syncs your settings with the base station. But it was also a bit confusing as the software would open up multiple windows and not tell me I needed to go back to the main window to finish setting up the base station and the entry keypad. It has also taken me the better part of an afternoon to get all of this working. I found out after installing the system that my town requires a permit for security systems. I filled out the required municipal forms, but it appears I have to wait until I send the permit number to SimpliSafe for my system to truly be ready. All-in-all, this system is easily worth the price. Monitoring is not free. You currently have the option of two monthly monitoring plans that you can cancel at any time. Only difference I can see between the two plans is that one allows you the convenience of using the SimpliSafe smartphone app to arm and disarm the system and the other plan does not. Seemed like that should have been a default plan feature to me. There is no long term commitment. However, my plan seemed locked into the more expensive option of $24.99 per month by default and I have to call SimpliSafe to change my current plan settings. So in summation: the safety is worth it and I like how easy it was to get he hardware setup. I wish the software had been a bit more straightforward, but so far the system works great and it can easily be expanded in the future.

SimpliSafe wireless home security system is an excellent product for homeowners and renters. All wireless alarm systems (DIY and professionally installed) work pretty much the same and they come with cellular communication instead of a landline. What SimpliSafe provides is quality wireless home security similarly to those professionally installed without the extremely high initial installation cost and ridiculous costly recurrent monthly monitor service charge. With SimpliSafe professional monitoring the lowest monthly plan is just $14.99 and with other traditional companies, their prices start at $27.99. Note that the $27.99 is ADT’s basic plan and you required to have a landline, which if you don’t have is an additional cost to monitor your system. Their wireless, without a landline, basic plan starts at $48.99/month. Comparing similar products (wireless) and service, SimpliSafe is cheaper by $34/mon ($125/year) for the same type of system and professional monitoring service. With the money saved, you may even want to buy a system for your loved ones. What is best about this DIY system is that because it is completely wireless you can take it with whenever you move home or apartment. If you have a second unit, this might even work when you stay at another location for a prolonged period of time, e.g. summer/winter vacation homes. Even though it is not recommended, you can have this system working in your home without monitoring service. PROS: > NO Contract at all! This is the best feature that you aren't locked into a monitoring service contract. You pay month to month and you can cancel your service whenever you want. Other companies require at least a minimum of a 1-year contract and if you need to cancel for whatever reason most likely will incur a cancellation fee. Alternatively but not recommended, the system can operate on its own without the monitoring service. The alarm sound by itself might deter burglars from continuing even further from taking more of your belongings. If you will be doing the system without the monitoring, I highly recommend getting the additional siren to even deter the burglars from continuing their bad deeds. > Wireless contacts, touchpads, and motion sensors that come reprogrammed to just plug and play. No net to make complicated programming. This makes the system easily expandable with additional components. Other companies will charge heavily to add those components while with SimpliSafe it’s DIY. > Add additional devices such as glass break sensor, another high pitch siren, carbon monoxide sensor and more. > NO need of a landline. This alarm system uses cellular communication to connect with the monitoring station. Cellular signal is way better than landline since landline has the risk of burglars disable the system by cutting the phone line or power line. Traditional monitoring system doesn't offer cellular communication or they charge extra for use of cellular connection. CONS: > Keypad system is not light up. Place the keypad in a location near an available light and this helps you see the buttons and avoid entering an incorrect code. SUMMARY: This is a good system for a low price. You get a professional quality monitoring for a low price and no contract.

Great little package to keep you home secure. What I like the most of it is that its wireless. No need to poke holes on your home and wiring. All of the devices have a replaceable battery (supposed to last long) and they all attach with included double sided tape (pre applied). Setup is simple, you could either follow the instructions to do it pairing with the keypad or you could plug the keychain (which has an usb male port) to the base and then plug it in a computer and the do the setup via their windows program. The package includes door opening sensors and motion sensors, however you could add more by simply buying them from their website (I'm planning on adding a co2, smoke and glass break detector). The only thing I don't like much is the pricing for their monitoring plans, they're $15 and $25. The second one lets you monitor your system remotely via their app, I wish this was included anyways, since what is the cost? All you need is data on you phone and wifi on you home, none of which they are paying... If you don't get the plans, no notification to the police or emergency services, just your in home siren. I wish the pricing of the service would be something like $10 and $20. I hope they reconsider their cost, being that the package isn't that cheap either. At least you get a free month. This is my only con, other than that, the system is a very nice one and I would recommend it to anyone (remember you may get a discount on home owners insurance and/or renters, mention you have an alarm system to your insurance guy).

SimpliSafe-SECURITY for My Family & Peace of Mind

It's name says it all, SimpliSafe. Designed for DIY folks like myself (and You), it is ingenious in its simplicity. For its price point and ease of installation there is no valid reason not to have this SimpliSafe Defend Wireless Home Security System protecting your home and family. Over the last 20 years I have had my home broken into twice. Thankfully, was not home either occasion. Had a national alarm system company monitoring my home during each break-in. However, the thieves cut my land line and had no problem pilfering and taking whatever they wished, even the kids 'Piggy Banks' and some of their toys. Yuk! After the break-ins I collaborated my with neighbors so that we would look out for each others homes when someone was away. Regardless of the security system this is always a great idea. However, sometimes my immediate neighbors were also away at the same time. So, I jumped at the chance to receive a complimentary SimpliSafe Defend Wireless Home Security System for review. First, let me explain that the nationally-known, security company I once had also has a 'basic', wireless home security package now, which includes, supposedly, free installation. However, a phone estimate of what additional sensors I needed to match the Defend security system, two-year monitoring contract, monthly monitoring costs, and Alarm Permit Fees. It was cost prohibitive - over six times what the SimpliSafe Defend Home Security System cost to include the basic monthly monitoring charges (14.99), certification by a locally licensed alarm installer, and permit fees. SimpliSafe Defend Home Security System is a no brainier choice, and especially, since two of my neighbors already have SimpliSafe Security Systems installed in their homes. They did give me one bit of good advice though. During the installation process affix all of my device sensors to the building with screws. To get the system permitted in my county, an outside, licensed alarm installer, must certify my system for permitting. Of course there is a ridiculous fee for this service. The 'local' alarm companies, not wanting DIY competition, will not certify adhesive tape, fastened devices. No big deal, SimpliSafe provides fastener screws for each sensor just for that purpose. It only takes a few extra minutes to fasten each sensor to your window and door frames. Keep in mind that SimpliSafe also recommends that you check with your local authorities if a home security permit is required and what other hoops you may have to jump through. When it is all said and done – if it complies with local authorities and keeps your family safe and secure – it is well worth it. WooHoo! The Defender Kit includes eleven pieces: six entry sensors, keychain remote, keypad, base station, and two motion sensors. Also included is one FREE month of monitoring towards either of the two plans SimpliSafe offers. There are extra sensors available for purchase, like a smoke detector, CO detector, glass break sensor, water and freeze detectors, camera, and panic button. You can also order extra entry sensors, siren, keychain remotes, and keypads if you did not have enough for your home in the Defender Kit. What I really like about the entry sensors is that they have no 'right' or 'wrong' way to install them. Vertically, horizontally, upside down, or, even at odd angles. As long as the magnet is parallel and aligned within two inches of the sensor's marked grooves, it will work. Another great feature is the voice assistant of the base station for installation and guidance. I have used the Defender Home Security System for over a week now as a 'Stand-Alone' unit until I can get my SimpliSafe System certified and permitted so I can use the SimpliSafe monitoring service. I look at it this way – without 24/7 monitoring – who is really going to look out for your home and family's security? Additionally, you can utilize the camera and settings features, remotely, from your Smart Phone,Tablet, or Laptop while you are away with the Premium Service for (24.99) – change settings, and allow entry for friends, relatives or neighbors checking on your place, all done remotely. And, there is NO Annual Contract – you can cancel at any time. I am really impressed by this SimpliSafe Defender Home Security System. It is super-cost-effective and gives me the peace of mind because of the protection for my family. You can choose Away, Home, and OFF for your system. The 'Home' mode activates your alarm while you are at home, and, to me is the most important of all the settings. The sensors all have batteries, which may last up to five years. The keypad should be replaced yearly. The Base Station has an eight hour back-up should you lose power, and can communicate with the monitoring service using its battery back-up. Anytime you make changes utilizing your USB keychains to your desktop, laptop, or computer – update the keychains at the Base Station to keep your system current. They have a battery and at this writing it is unknown how long they last. In summary SimpliSafe Defender Home Security System is probably the most cost-effective security system on the market, and, one of the simplest to install, modify, and expand. I am super-happy I have this system installed and have already ordered the smoke detector, extra entry sensors, additional siren, and glass-break sensor as suggested by my neighbors. I highly recommend this SimpliSafe Defend Home Security System. It may not have all the sensors you need, but it is easy and affordable to order additional devices. Just make a phone call to your local alarm installer and monitoring agency for estimates and 'packages' – you will be convinced of its cost effectiveness for security.

I now have a SimpliSafe defend wireless camera and I’m feeling more safe having it. The company make setup so easy leaving you to really decide on the placement of the sensors. In about 35 minutes my SimpliSafe wireless security was ready to be used. It have adhesive if you decide to go that route but I chose the screws because I feel like it will hold longer. The defend kit includes the keypad, 6 door/window sensors, 2 motion detectors, remote, base, and manual. I’m using everything but 4 of the sensors because my motion detector covers the windows on the level. Monitoring with SimpliSafe is affordable compared to the bigger security companies. If you pay for monitoring you will not be locked in a long contract. I did not 5 star the SimpliSafe because: The keypad looks dated and the keys do not illuminate. No smart home integration. I think this should atleast be able to arm the alarm. Not able to use the app unless you activate monitoring. Basic features should be available to everyone with the security system. In about 6 months this SimpliSafe pays for itself. I like that you can add any component be SimpliSafe to customize it to your home or business. In conclusion this is for just about anyone that needs a little extra security for a great price.

So I'll be upfront and say that like cable cutters who are going a la carte this will be my third security system in four years. The last two have had contracts or catches so I have high hopes already knowing that I won't be tied to something that could potentially be a bummer. As you can see that the base is not an eye sore and sits beautifully at an entryway area without needing much space. I'm in my 72-hour test period of setup in any event I accidentally trip an alarm. Of course my favorite part of this system is that my dog won't set it off. Some sensors have proven faulty in the past so he and I will be excited not to have to worry about loud noises (unless of course an intruder enters and then we'll be very thankful). If you've gotten this far stay put, there are definitely pros and cons to this little package. So I love the cleanliness and design of the system. Everything is a soft white and will blend easily and there is really no fuss to installing anything because of the adhesive. I do worry that the adheisve will lose it's ability to stick for a long time. There is a voice guided lady who speaks softly to you letting you know what's going on with the system and that was neat. It was almost like a podcast voice that you just want to speak to you. The keychain provided to disable the system by hand instead of dialing in a pin is cool because of I have groceries in hand then I am just a click of a button away from arming or disarming the system. Most of all the fact that I can tailor the system with all sorts of cool ad-ons like the glass break sensor which I am getting! Downfalls include, that when the system was delivered I could hear stuff moving around inside which sounded cheap. The defend system does not come with the siren which is vital to deter an intruder. Now the system can be quiet and send out alerts to dispatch police but I want the bells and whistles off the bat and you have to invest in that. I don't like that Simplisafe doesn't have a jazzed up version of the pin pad where I can control multiple sources of applications on a touch screen. Hopefully that comes in the near future! As a whole the package is cool because I can build on it, and the subscription is fairly priced.

Got the Simplisafe set up in 30 minutes, as well as the registration with the call service (same call center as the $50 wired systems!). If you can stick a piece of tape on a wall, you can do this. Everything is wireless and battery powered, so you don’t have to worry about polarity, or climbing in the attic, or other unpleasantness. I plan to get the cameras in the future, and maybe a few more sensors for the outdoor sheds. The service is fantastic. They are compassionate during their calls, including false alarms during the testing phase. To settle my fears, I asked the local law enforcement of their opinion on the brand and they think very highly of the system. I highly recommend the Simplisafe system!

The Simplisafe Defend home security system is ideal for those that want safety at a budget price. Pros: - Set-up was very easy. Even folks with low technical skill should do fine. - The system is expandable, allowing you to add additional functionality like smoke detectors and cameras. - It's all wireless, except for the hub that you will install in a centralized location. - The keychain remote is super handy for arming and disarming. Cons: - The packaging needs improvement. My keychain remote was loose inside the box when I first opened it. Some sensors were not well secured in the box either. - Unless you pay for the service, you cannot get notifications on your phone when there is activity in the home. I would have liked for this to be included free with the product. I can contact the police on my own if needed, based on what the system has detected. I do not have pets so I could not verify that the motion sensors do not get set off by them. Overall, this is a good starter system for just about anyone. It's simple set-up and ability to expand its functionality makes it worth the cost. And if you pay for the monthly service, you will likely be spending far less than if you go with a large home alarm company that can charge $30+ per month.

The Simplisafe Defend Home Security System is an easy to install upstart system that I basically put together while being sick. So it's Safe to say that it's pretty Simple to set up. I just took it out of the box and just chose my locations to protect and then went to the website and BOOM! That Simpl......er, almost. Actually , it was pretty easy to start up. Then there was the whole calling my local fire department or city ordinance to find out whether or not I needed an alarm permit. I did. It's not that bad really. You pay a yearly fee ( $40- $50) + either the Simple $14.99 basic package or the one I chose, the $24.99 package [Get that one.] for monitoring 24-7. I had to call to do a test signal check and they were , for the most part, really helpful. They had to set up and activate a Sim-card for the proper network Usually T-mobile or Verizon. After the setup process I got a 72 hour test mode and after that? FORT KNOX!! Lol. For something so Simple, I was hoping for no-brainer style, but it was a good experience in the end. I give it a 4 out of 5 basically because even though the installation was simple , the instructions are pretty limited and it doesn't tell you that you will have contact SimpliSafe for the final activation process. I'm sure that is a given , but if you're gonna hold my hand when we cross the highway, don't let go until we're on the other side. There's an app that basically connects you the whole system on the $24.99 plan. It will allow you to control all your stuff on the go, whereas the $14.99 option gives you a cool key chain remote (in the box). The sensors are light weight and easy to adhere to your door and frames, using adhesive and magnets, simple and the key pad is easy to navigate. The motion sensors are easy to place and have great range. I think everyone should have security and this is a very affordable way to go. I think they will keep us SimpliSafe ( Had to be done.)

I always thought home security would be outrageously expensive! Thanks to things like WIFI, Cellular, and networks we can now monitor our precious personal possessions from anywhere. The Simplisafe Defend Home Security solution is revolutionary because you get a DIY professional grade security system with home monitoring at a fraction of the cost. There are no binding contracts, no monthly equipment fees, and installation takes just a few minutes. Monitoring services run as high as $60/month, where as Simplisafe is around $25/month. I setup the system within 15 minutes. While the sensors have strong double-sided tape, use screws to prevent a sensor from falling. Instructions are a little lacking, however Simplisafe Tech Support is super friendly and responsive. There are neat features, such as the ability to leave windows open and alerts when you leave a door open. I did have an issue with a sensor, however a quick firmware upgrade took care of the issue. Overall this is an inexpensive and easy to use home security solution.

This is my first Home security system ever. Here is what comes in the box you get 1 base station, 1 keypad, 6 entry sensors, 2 motion sensors, 1 keychain remote, 1 yard sign and 2 windows decals. This set up lets you set up a nice size house. The square footage on my house is 1900 and I had no issues. Plus you can always add other sensors to meet your needs. Installation was very easy and the directions where clear which helped with making the installation easy. Set up took me about an hour. The base station that powers the system is a 10.5 inch tall large white plastic cone that glows to tell you that the alarm is on and pulses when there is an error with a sensor. What I liked best about the base is that there is a sim card that allows cellular communication for monitoring instead of a landline which is great since I no longer use a landline. Keypad installation was easy too. No wiring was required, I just peeled off the backing and stuck the keypad to the wall. The manual says that you can even change where you place the keypad and move it too a new resident too. The keychain also doubles as a USB drive and if you have a PC, you can plug it in and use the Easy Setup wizard to configure your system. There are three modes for activity monitoring. You can use home mode which activates door and windows sensors. Away mode which activates both the entry sensors and the motion sensors. Test mode lets you set up the system and to check that all sensors are working. When you arm the alarm and a sensor goes off, you have 30 seconds to enter your pin. If you sign up for their service, and you do not enter it, the sirens go off from the base unit and sends an alert to SimpliSafe. They will call you and ask for your safe word. If you don't provide the safety word, the police are sent to your house. If you pay the monthly fee, you have access to SimpliSafe's online dashboard to control your system. The Dashboard also lets you view your System Event Log, change your PIN, assign up to four guest PINs, and choose an optional Duress PIN. From here you can adjust entry and exit delay time, manage and rename sensors and change the siren volume. There is a mobile app too for Android and iOS. You will need to pay for the plan to have access to the app. The app basically lets you turn the system on or off and view your system event log. There are many different types of service plans, but if you don't want to pay a monthly fee you can use your SimpliSafe as a local alarm and it is up to you to contact the police. Where it can come in handy is if you have teenagers and you can set up entry sensor by a door where your liquor cabinet is and you will be notified each time the cabinet is accessed. You can even add cameras to the system. In the end here are my pros: This is a good price for hardware and monthly monitoring when you compare to other products There is no monthly contract required. Installation was quick and easy Works with Nest Smart Thermostat The system is easily expandable and customizable Battery Backup Cellular connectivity Cons: Mobile app is pretty basic- hopefully updates will improve this Hardware is a looks a little dated You won't be logged out from the online dashboard after inactivity Nest is the only third party device that it integrates with. Only use SimpliSafe add ons- cameras, etc If you want to monitor and secure your home from anywhere and not spend a ton of money this is a great system.

So many home security systems these days have either a high monthly cost or a high cost for the installation or the system itself. This security system is easy to install yourself, at a very reasonable cost for the package itself, and offers very low cost options for security monitoring services though those aren't even required, which makes this one of the best decent home security options available.
