I have owned an original Slingbox, an AV, and PRO, and a PRO-HD. Wow... this one is the best.
Let me start by saying that the picture quality is essentially perfect. Its full HD, there is no motion blur, it looks great. I was stuck at the airport on Sunday. Lucky for me, I had my phone and watched Red Zone the whole time I was waiting. Sling should pay me. I sold about 8 boxes while waiting for that flight.
Setting up this box was super easy. I did it in about 10 minutes.
Not missing my home TV where ever I am... thank you Slingbox
Reading a lot of the reviews on here and on Amazon, people are complain about the HDMI port. I am trying to figure out why they are rating the product so poorly. The cable and sat companies encrypt the HDMI signals... how is this Sling's fault? Use component cables guys! I have and still do. I have an HDMI security camera hooked up to my HDMI. 5/5 Stars. Even if people don't like the HDMI... WiFi, on screen set up, and SlingProjector make this box worth $120 more than the 350.
Thank you for making an awesome product Sling (if you ever see this review) you have a fan for life!

I bought this to replace the previous model I bought from you in July that worked great until it just quit in less than 6 months. I replaced it with this new model and it won't work and technical support cannot get me online. Very frustrated now over one month and no help

A totally awesome product. The NY Rangers made it to the Stanly Cup Finals and I had an overseas trip coming up. I could not miss my favorite team so I got sling box. I set the whole thing up in 10 minutes without a glitch. I downloaded apps for my iPhone and iPad and found their site on line so could watch on my PC. All was easy and fast. The apps had to be purchased, PC access is free. That was it. I tested it last night from Uk. I watched game one from my hotel with full access to all my DIRECTV programming. Perfect! I was a little concerned at weak wifi in basement where I set this up. Even so, no glitches. Bottom line it is a great product, is easy to use and is very easy to set up. Five stars for sure.

Don't use HDMI cables as the service providers will block video during prime time. Will not stay connected to wireless router.

I watch very little TV but the one thing that I do watch is sports and the fact that I have to be in front of a TV to watch is a problem especially in the summer when I don't want to be inside or on days I have to work and there is a day game. This thing works great and I can access everything from anywhere that my cable box offers including my DVR. It was easy to set up and is very easy to access from the road. To use with a tablet or smartphone the app costs an additional $15 but it was worth the one time fee, on a laptop or desktop there is no cost.

My family got the Slingbox 500 for our parents so that they can stream their Filipino Soap Operas to their iPad wherever they were (they often resort to some really bad streams from 3rd party websites).
Here's my parents setup:
Comcast DVR in downstairs family room connected via component to a older Sony 70" tv
Dual-band Netgear router on second floor on opposite side of house.
Box Setup:
Slingbox was connected via HDMI and component from Comcast DVR, component was then ran to Sony TV
All of the media components (DVD player, DVR, VHS and Slingbox) all sit ON TOP of the TV.
The Slingbox's AC adapter cable was too short (this is probably a 5 foot distance to the top of the tv), I had to use an extension.
Also the Slingbox 500 has a weird shape, so don't count on putting anything on top of it, as my dad says, they want to be on top.
Slingbox configuration was done using the remote and the on-scren menu. This took longer than I expected but wasn't super difficult. My parents would have been confused, but that's why I set it up. The firmware flashing took some time though (9 minutes) and using the remote to go to the various letters was sometimes taxing. During the determination of the cable box, I chose a DCX3400, but some buttons didn't work correctly, then I saw there was a DCX3400M (don't know the difference), but that worked perfectly.
I also chose to use the wireless-N 5ghz network since my parents 2.4ghz network seemed to get knocked out by a microwave. I have some bad experiences with wireless-n in the past, but this seemed to work, even between two floors at opposite ends of the house.
Client Setup:
I knew going into this that I would have to pay for the SlingPlayer app on the iPad (and iPhone). I'm a bit peeved at the thought of paying $15 (or $30 for two apps) after spending $300 on the hardware, but I didn't have much of a choice. The app worked fine on an iphone 4s, 5, ipad 2 and from windows.
Impressions:
Once it's setup, it works fairly well. My parents and I have streamed tv while in a car and while at another person's house (over AT&T 3g/4g and wifi). There have been a few times where you can't connect to your slingbox and you just have to manually power cycle it (which you can't really do remotely). I think this gift has come in handy when needing to watch a football game while at the mall or wanting to keep watching a show while you are in the car (as a passenger).

WOW Set up was a breeze!

This truly remarkable. Unlike the previous model, the set up is a breeze. Aided by the fact that the 500 is wireless, and the onscreen step by step guide, it took me just a few minutes to get this up and running. Everything I needed was in the box - which is always a big plus. Nothing worse than finding out you are missing the one cord you need and you need to make another trip to get it.
The picture on my IPad is remarkable True HD. This does what it says - I am watching my TV and my recorded shows. I dont think there is another service or product that actually lets you do that.
Was able to watch the baseball game on my tv, and since my sling is hooked up to a tv in another room, I was able to watch the football game on my IPad at the same time. Pretty Cool!

Great Product for our Use

We bought the Sling box to watch TV at anchor on our boat. A full marine Dish or Direct TV setup starts at $3K, and another subscription to manage and pay for. We're already paying $300/mo for Fios at home. Solution is the Slingbox with 50MB up and down speed at home, ATT hot spot with 10 MB up and down on the boat, iPhone 6 with Slingplayer and a $50 Apple to HDMI adaptor. The picture quality is slightly lower than than home reception due to compression, but still very acceptable, and I am in the video business. We now have all channels and full access to DVR at home. The only down side is that it does chew up the data on your hotspot data plan, but it's still cheaper than the Dish or Direct subscription, and there's no contract. The Sling Player for Apple shows no ads, buffers only occasionally, and unlike signal loss with over the air, starts up where it left off when done buffering, so you don't miss any lines of dialog or the big catch.

It's amazing how easy it was to setup. I did not have any issues with setup at all. The streaming is fast and the picture quality is very clear. Now I can watch my TV anywhere. I am happy with SlingTV so far. :)

This is not intended to be a full review, but I hope you find it helpful.
CNET's full review is available on their website, but let me take an excerpt from their review to address the concern about streaming video from Comcast or other provider:
"In addition to the IR and streaming features the Slingbox 350 has, the $300 Slingbox 500 adds some unique new features. It's the first Slingbox to offer built-in Wi-Fi #finally!#. It's also the first to offer HDMI support #again: finally!#, albeit with the usual caveat: if the broadcaster uses the most aggressive digital "flag," that channel or program won't be streamable via HDMI. For that reason, Sling recommends still connecting the component video input as well -- a "belt and suspenders" approach, a company rep told me."
So, if your concern is being blocked on streaming protected content, then simply hook up some component cables too! If you found this helpful, then please vote, thank you.

I had an old Slingbox. I was prepared to spend all day fighting with this one to first get it installed and working locally on wi-fi, then to get it working outside the house. This was a nice surprise. Super easy set up, even to get it streaming outside of the house which used to be tough. Just follow the instructions to a "T" in the getting started guide. I had zero issues and had it installed in 25 minutes.
I am using it over wi-fi. It was bit choppy at first, then I moved it to a closer receiver to my wi-fi and it is perfect. Works great, very much improved, don't have to use the "IR blaster cables" like before. Def Buy. It is the best one yet!

Awesome Device

This is a great product. I have been using slingbox for a number of years. I caution you before reading the negative reviews as they All seem to be operator error. Many also complain about streaming quality. This ALL depends on what Upload speed you are buying from your ISP as well as the internet connection your are connecting from . If your on a cheap DSL connection with 1-3 Mb upload speed or have 1 bar of reception/slow hotel wifi connection, this will not work as well as you would like. Setup is not hard for the average consumer. Just follow the directions provided and set up one port forwarding rule on your current router....easy as that. Remember the quality of the streaming mainly depends on your upload speed from you residence. If that is good, this device works very well. Highly Recommend

It worked pretty well for almost a year. It's was obvious that it was a stream, but maybe with a super fast connection it's less obvious. After about a year colors had blue and yellow hues, and then a couple month later the unit became totally unresponsive. It freezes and a fan turns on that I didn't know it even had. The user forum offers more problems than solutions and customer service charges if your unit falls out of the 12 month warranty. By reading the forum I see my problem is common. I'd recommend buying the extended protection from Best Buy. You'll likely need it.
