I installed the Smart Choice 1.25 Horsepower Disposer to replace my smaller hp unit that was at least 8 years old. The 3-bolt mount design appealed to me as I had high hopes that it would be a pretty simple installation. Just in case it wasn't, I bought a garbage disposal installation kit with miscellaneous fittings from one of the big box stores. Fortunately, none of the extra parts were needed and this was a simple swap using the three-bolt mount. The three foot power cord came pre-attached and was plenty long enough to reach my under counter outlet. Even though this unit was physically larger, and more powerful than my previous one, the insulated design makes it very quiet. It operates smoothly and seems to be well-balanced so there's no vibration. The 1.25 horsepower provides all the power you need to grind up even the toughest table scraps. It includes a removable splash guard/protector that's easy to clean and allows you to see down into the unit easily. It can be removed to clean or retrieve dropped items. Also included is a magnetized collar that wraps around the neck of the unit keeping dropped silverware from falling into the blades. I did notice that drainage through the rubber splash guard was very slow, so you might consider trimming the piece to make the hole a little larger - we did. Some folks might not mind this so it's hard to call it a complaint! Overall, a great product and an easy replacement disposal. It wouldn't be too bad as a new install either!

    What an Upgrade

From a slow, noisy, inefficient garbage disposal to a fast, quiet, and ultra-efficient one. It upgraded my kitchen. That’s how I feel. Just imagine moving from a ¾ to a 1 and ¼ HP. But power is not all. Although this is more powerful than what I had, it is also quieter. Excellent quality. Not too complicated to install. I did it on my own and other than going to Home Depot once for a piece of pipe that should have been replaced a long time ago, I had no issues. It was just a replacement anyway. It did take more than an hour to install, but I was not in a hurry and took the opportunity to fix other things under the kitchen sink. I tend not to comment on pricing, but I feel you are getting more than you’re paying for. Although I can’t remember the exact price I paid for the last one, I know I paid more and got a lot less. Again, I’m impressed with the quality. It looks and feel solid and sturdy with great stability. Everything I threw in it was handled nicely and quieter than I expected. With a warranty to back up what I’ve experienced so far, I highly recommend it.

This is a the God of Foods, it destroys everything at the flip of a switch! The Smart Choice Garbage Disposal has 1.25 horsepower of stainless steel blade turning destruction. I already had a 15 year old disposal on its way out so it was time to upgrade. Install was unfortunately for me not a quick swap, I ended up having to bring in a plumber to redo everything, my hopes were dashed but at least it was not too expensive to have everything updated to todays codes as well. The motor is quiet, like whisper quiet compared to my old unit. We have 6 of us in the house and my kids are horrible about throwing everything in the sink instead of scraping it out in the trash first, Well, know this, the 1.25 hp motor with take on whatever your kids throw down there, including a plastic knife, found that out already, I did try out the small chicken bone size it says it can pulverize and yes, it does with ease just a little raise up noise during that. Normal everyday foods like noodles, veggies, fruit peels and more are just zero match for the power of the Smart Choice disposal. Waterflow is still good with this unit, making the draining of your sink just as fast without it, my left and right sinks drain exactly the same speed with this disposal, my old one did not. The warranty of this unit is another great feature, most do not have much of anything in the way of warranties, Smart Choice stands behind their products from what I have read, making the purchase a "Smart Choice." I highly recommend this Smart Choice 1.25 horsepower disposal, to may you cannot beat the quality, the power or the value in total when looking for a food pulverizing unit of destruction like the Smart Choice!

The smart choice food waste disposer is a smart choice. Straight out the the box it feels heavy duty. Solid and well made. I don’t feel any cheap metals or plastics. Which makes me have confidence in how long it will last after we’ve installed it in our kitchen. We have a smaller kitchen than normal but we use our food waste disposer a lot. It is able to handle all the normal things. We clean out plate over the trash can slightly and the rest goes in the sink and I have no issues when running cleaning water and putting dishes in there with food because when I’m done cleaning I’m able to chop all the little things in the water. And safely dispose. It has a simple 3 bolt mounting system. We don’t have a lot of space under the sink which was our main issue with this setup. It’s quite large in comparison to others. make sure you pay attention to the order of the melting system parts. Other than connecting it to the dishwasher this system is fairly easy to mount you just have to make sure you have plenty of space for the proper tubing and connections.

I have seen in the past that apparently most garbage disposals are made by just a few entities even though they are generally sold under different brands. Opening the box for this Smart Choice 1.25hp unit gave me substantial evidence that may well be true. The now 8 year old disposal I am replacing with this one is actually identical to it in every way except the exterior color. Same physical design, same size, same power, and even the sound and function are identical. That’s actually a good thing since I really liked my old unit, and it makes me sure that this one will last many years and function very well. Install is incredibly easy, it uses the same 3 bolt flange that is commonplace on garbage disposals, so much so that you can potentially use the existing one on your sink or the one it includes. You then hook it onto the flange, insert the splash guard, hook up the drain pipe, and plug it in. If you are using a dishwasher, punch out the dishwasher drain plug and hook it up. As far as install goes, I found it unfortunate that it only included a 90 degree drain line attachment rather than a straight one which is what I needed for my drain line setup, but I had one already so I reused it. This disposal is also very large and may require some reworking of your drain lines to make room for it to fit if you either don’t already have one of a similar size or are installing one for the first time. Otherwise, it was easy and it works exactly the way it’s predecessor did. Fairly quiet, and does what it’s meant to with plenty of food grinding power.

Our old disposal that we replaced this with is what came with our house 32 years ago. We still used it but it was so noisy and loud and weak that it would often stay clogged up. It got to the point where we just don't use it anymore and have a 'catcher' instead to then dispose of in the garbage bin. This Smart Choice garbage disposal has changed our lives for the better, and forever. I wish we had this 32 years ago. First off, the sound difference is scarily amazing. It's really really quiet in comparison to the roaring of our old disposal where you know that it's on because of how loud it is. So this can be both a good and bad thing, because since it's so quiet, one may not realize it's even on! But that's where the magnetism takes place. I did not know something like this could exist, and I don't even think it's noticeably advertised. In the past, a utensil may accidentally fall into the sink hole and I'd have to carefully pry it out. Now, it's possible that the utensil will be caught along the side to prevent this from happening. I know that the description of this says you can grind even small bones, but I don't know if I want to test that. We still have the mentality of using it the last amount possible, but it's nice knowing that we have something new that we can rely on. Afterthought: installation was also a breeze. Didn't need to hire anyone, was able to figure it out myself. They made it really easy to replace.

After going through several garbage disposals, usually because I would get the cheapest one, wisdom has finally prevailed and said to look at a better unit. In the past I have used 1/2 and 3/4hp disposals and they seemed okay. That is until this one came into the picture. I finally realize why the others would go out after only a couple years. In my household, people have been know to put just about any and everything in the disposal. Sometimes intentionally sometimes not. One of my grandchildren cleaned her plate off after eating chicken wings. Unbeknownst to me, it all and I do mean all, went in the sink. When the disposal was turned on, it let out a painful grinding as if it were trying to crush a car. Needless to say it didn't last long after. With the Smart Choice installed I'm pretty confident that if that same situation were to happen again, it would now have the same issue. For the things that have been put into it since being installed, it has made short order of them and does it with very little noise. So far so good! Installation was very quick, about 20 minutes but like I said earlier, I've had a lot of practice! I have a feeling this will be the last one I install! As for the features, like I stated earlier, it is very quiet and makes short order of whatever is put in there. If your household is anything like mine, on occasion some flatware ends up falling into the disposal. Two reason that is less likely to happen with this one. First, the rubber gate/strainer is pretty tight so things won't just fall in. This is also a drawback because it also doesn't all stuff to just go into the disposal which I have found is common on all the new ones. One other feature that I am really happy about is the magnetic collar. So now, rather than your silverware falling into the disposal the magnetic collar holds onto it. No more fishing utensils out of the disposal. Overall, great device!!

I've replaced several garbage disposals for my parents, friends and for myelf. In the pre-2000s, I was regularly replacing Badger series disposals. These were mostly 1/3 or 1/2 hp models and I found it off-putting that the Badger ones required an electrical pigtail to be purchased or constructed separately and installed. These Badger disposals would last about 5-10 years where their impeller basket would be rusty or the body would develop a leak. In the early 2000s, I installed a 1.25 hp disposal that I bought from a warehouse club and was amazed how quiet a disposal could be and swore off the Badger series. Preparation for the installation and the final plumbing hookup took most of the time and effort, but both of those are situation specific. Installation of this Smart Choice disposal went pretty quickly. New installations do require plumber's putty, which is not included. Most of the installation can be accomplished with just a Phillips head screwdriver. I'd say we installed the disposal in less than 20 minutes. The plumbing hookup required a trip to the hardware store to get a healthy mixture of possible parts and some creativity to put it all together. The disposal itself is branded Smart Choice. It is a division of Electrolux, which is a big brand. I'm guessing Smart Choice falls within the Frigidaire subsidiary within the U.S., but not certain. Generally, 1.25 hp disposals are large and long and this disposal is no exception. It's approximately 9 inches in diameter at its widest and about 15 inches long, so you'll need plenty of cabinet/plumbing space to accommodate this unit. It has an attached 3 ft electrical cord, which was more than sufficient for my installation. Operation of the unit is great. It is quite quiet owing to its insulated shell and a well-balanced motor. The impellers easily chewed through small potatoes without any hint of strain. The unit includes a magnetic collar which they call Silver Guard. Its purpose is to magnetically catch silverware before they fall into the impellers. But most the silverware I tested didn't have enough iron to make much difference. The magnetic attraction for most items I tested were no better than a cheap fridge magnet. The manual does a decent job explaining the installation process, but seems to lack troubleshooting instructions like when to use the reset button. Installation is eased by the 3-bolt mounting system, which seems pretty universal across multiple disposal brands. So future replacement can be tackled by most weekend warriors. I would stay away from any disposals without a 3-bolt mounting system. If registered, the product comes with a 10 year warranty and a Corrosion Lifetime Warranty. While this Smart Choice disposal is a decent product with the features I was looking for, I likely would not get this particular brand again. I would likely get any future disposals from my local warehouse club. They hit all the same features, but at nearly half the price. Even if I couldn't find the disposal from a warehouse club, I feel I could get a decent disposal for cheaper at my local hardware store. Installation Specific Notes (no impact to review): I was recently talking to my in-laws and they wanted to install a disposal in their downstairs kitchen sink so I found this Smart Choice Disposal. This would be a new installation for them. If you're not doing a simple replacement, I would recommend hiring a plumber to set up the new installation. Their downstairs kitchen has a double-sink and an electrical outlet under their sink and we didn't have to deal with a dishwasher. Looking at the existing drain piping, we quickly saw that the disposal would only fit on the left hand sink as the right hand sink drain plumbing would not accommodate the large disposal body. Our first big problem was getting rid of the sink drain basket. Unfortunately, the lock ring was too large for any of our tools to grab hold of and the threads were cemented with minerals that accumulated over the many years. After struggling for several minutes, we ended up using an oscillating tool to cut off the lock ring. After installation of the disposal, the plumbing hookup required a trip to the hardware store where we purchased more than we needed and we were thankful for bringing the included discharge elbow with us to make sure we purchased the right sized products. In the end, we needed several elbows, slip joint nuts, washers and had to cut a couple segments to connect everything together. I would say this requires a more intermediate to expert experience with plumbing that some DIYers may not have.

The garbage disposal unit that was in our home appeared to be on its way out. We purchased our home back in 2015, so it was definitely time to replace it. Having come across the opportunity to try the Smart Choice 1.25HP disposal unit, we jumped on it. Not gonna lie, I was a bit worried that it would be too difficult to change the disposal unit out, but boy was I wrong. To start, this new disposal unit comes with pretty much everything you need to make the change. New gasket for the outlet pipe, and necessary hardware. The unit is also pretty lightweight, so getting it in was not bad at all. I removed the old unit and had this one in relatively quickly. As to the performance of the Smart Choice disposal, it’s worked great! It’s not too loud like my older unit and makes quick work of the “disposal” process. One thing that needs is the packaging of the disposal unit itself. I found that one of the cardboard holding squares got a bit beat up during shipping and there is no protection for the center section of the unit. I was a bit scared that it might have gotten damaged during shipping, but it still works. Aside from packaging, the Smart Choice 1.25HP garbage disposal unit works great. I would highly recommend it.
