He must for any DJI Mavic enthusiast. This was such an awesome purchase, Especially giving my phone a break. The screen is beautiful, the portability perfect, and the battery it’s fantastic. And now with the new farmer update for this controller, you can also pair the Mavic air 2!

Perfect addition to the supported DJI drones. Can connect either USB C or HDMI for video output to display on devices that support these connections. I can add a monitor and googles using either connection and allow the Smart Remote screen to be mirrord on the deviceS.

The plusses: the screen is, indeed, bright enough (1000 NITS) to use without sunshade even here in Florida daylight. More than bright enough in the shade. Solid construction and 2 1/2 hour battery life. Quicker set-up than the regular controller that requires installation of your (comparatively dim) smartphone. The minuses: Expensive, especially if you already bought your drone with the standard controller. No cellular service, so get your app updates via WiFi before going out to fly. Operates on a highly-constrained version of the Android operating system. At this point in time, many third-party apps can be installed, but won't run because is is not possible to install Google Play Services. DJI recently released APIs that will allow third-party developers to adapt their apps to work natively on the Smart Controller; but haven't seen any announcements yet. Currently works with only three DJI drone models: Mavic 2 Pro, Mavic 2 Zoom, and Mavic 2 Enterprise (both regular and dual models). Expect future drone releases that support OcuSync to likely work with the Smart Controller.

    Great Controller But Overpriced!!

I absolutely love using this product as I purchased primarily for convenience. There is absolutely zero setup time and zero cables (I used an iPad); this alone is a great advantage. I use with a Mavic Zoom and for the most part, it does exactly what it is designed to do. The major positives include: size, convenience, portability, screen quality, functionality, and battery life. This device has tons of functionality! I do not use the onboard browser and only use it for flying but will state that the onboard DJI editor is great. The negatives: bugs. I listed this as before a major firmware upgrade, this device had some major issues. DJI is noted for pushing out products that are not ready for primetime. I will add the Bluetooth for IOS users does not well as this is an android platform thus syncing is an issue. This being stated, I use my iPhone as a mobile hotspot and it works flawlessly with the device. In addition, per my usage the video playback audio is severely lacking. This is a software issue; DJI is aware and working to resolve. The others include processor speed and cost. While it’s quick, it is not snappy. This device is $749 if purchased as a stand-alone device and approximately $400 if bundled. I purchased at $649 before the price increase and am quite pleased. I do highly recommend this product for its’ overall functionality but not at the current price tag. I suspect that the price will come down after the holiday season. As for the current flaws, I suspect that DJI will do another update to address the issues. As with anything, I will advise to check out the plethora of reviews on YouTube before making any decision to purchase. Good luck and I hope this helps!

I'm a proud owner of this controller since 2019 before DJI hike the price and I will never go back to the original DJI controller, I got spoiled. Mainly I got this SC for it's ultrabright display to easily see better in direct sunlight and it outperforms extremely well. Also, I love the way it fast connects to the drone as soon as you power it and I don't have to deal with connecting cables or setting and placing a mobile device. I can easily fly four intelligent batteries on a full charge before I have to recharge it but you can also extend the flight time by connecting the SC to a powerbank. Totally love it!

I am a new to flying drones. I first started with the control that came in the combo pack and found it a bit cumbersome having to take the case off my cell phone every time I used it... This solved that problem. It is just a turn on both the drone and controller and it sinks up right away and you are ready to fly. I was very impressed on how visible the screen was in bright sunlight. Much better than my iPhone I used with the other controller... Yes this is expensive but well worth the cost even for a beginner like me..

Very impressed with this controller. The screen is unmatched with it brightness and clarity in the sun. The fell is quality all through the many features included with just a touch of the screen. As a new drone pilot i really appreciate the quick set-up which allows me to get up and flying in just about one and a half minutes. I think it's a must have for most drones if you can afford the steep price. I your doing it as a gig you will make the cost up in no time at all.

This is the controller that should be included with all high end Drones, it is something that you don't really appreciate until you have it and use it. The speed and convenience of being able to fly your drone without the hassle of cables, and taking your phone off the case, while setting up the drone and making sure that everything is connected and ready to fly, it's just a waste of time and battery. If I had one complain about this remote, it would be that it is extremely expensive. If I was a DJI executive, I would push to reduce the price of this controller, and made sure that every drone owner buys one. Or I would sell the high end Drones with this controller as an option, while reducing the price for both. About the unit, it is big and solid, and it has the option of attaching a landyard (which is not included) but very well needed, any resemblance with apple is a mere coincidence. Another thing I notice with this controller, is that the screen video quality seems much better or at least a lot more sharp and detailed than when using my phone's screen with a much higher resolution, despite of brightness, which of course it is a lot brighter on this controller making it easier to see directly under the sun. I am very happy with this controller and the only remorse I have is that now I'm $750 poorer.

Pros and Cons of Smart controller (SC) in comparison with my stock controller & iPhone 11 Pro Max combo are listed below. Hope this helps you make right decision for you. Pros: Superb Build quality. Feels great to hold this one than stock controller Love that it has two separate dials, one dedicated for camera zoom and another for gimble upward/downward rotation. Similarly I like that there are two separate buttons for picture and video and you don’t have to toggle Speaker quality is really good Screen brightness is good but nothing extraordinary in comparison with my iPhone 11 Pro Max Cons: Battery life not so good. Once fully charged it last about 3 to 4 flights but that’s it. Stock controller battery lasts much longer I found smart controller always lagging transmission range by 100 to 300 ft in comparison with stock controller. Difference is small but i was hoping for parity with stock controller at the least. Also I did not see any difference in range using Air 2s which uses Ocusync 3.0. Does not support most apps other than that are pre-installed. Also you have to use a kind of hack to install additional apps. I don’t think they receive auto updates and also don’t think SC has enough power to support them to run concurrently To download content from SC to your phone you have to use DJI GO 4 app which is not the same app that is used to fly Mavic air 2 or air 2s i.e. DJI FLY. So it add a couple of extra steps and time to transfer content from SC to phone It’s almost impossible to edit your content directly on SC because you cannot change the orientation of the app and therefore video looks as tiny as thumbnail in edit mode on DJI fly app on SC SC needs internet connection to show maps accurately. You will have to connect it to your phone at the places you don’t have internet. Obviously you don’t have to deal with this when using your phone Bottom 3 cons were a deal breaker for me. So i ended up returning the controller. It just made a lot of sense to use my smart phone and save from all the hassles that i mentioned…. This controller costs $750, so i was hoping for substantial improvements/ benefits over stock controller which are clearly not there. You can always purchase hood for $30 for your stock controller if sun glare if an issue. If you have money to spare, my recommendation is to use it to upgrade your phone or save it for a newer drone

    I Regret Selling Mine

Initially I enjoyed flying with this controller, but I didn't love the screen size. Being a middle-aged man, my eyesight isn't as keen as it once was, so I like to use a larger screen. The iPad Mini is typically my go-to for that. And after a month or so of using the Smart Controller, I decided to sell it because it is very expensive. That said, I do miss having this controller in my bag. I love that it is so simple to get that drone up in the air. You don't have to worry about charging a controller AND a second screen. And no messing around with cords connecting the two and getting tangled in your hand when you're flying. And the screen brightness is far superior to an iPad, which is a huge advantage on bright sunny days when you can't stand in the shade. I'm still on the fence as to whether it's worth the price...but it's definitely worth owning!

Update the firmware and you will see the Mavic Air 2 is now supported. I have both and can verify. It was a little difficult getting the firmware to update. The trick was to make sure all items were selected in the help settings and do a factory reset, then it updated flawlessly. The right wheel becomes a zoom wheel if you own the Mavic Air 2, this is awesome! The screen is much brighter then my phone and I can see pretty good in daylight. Very happy with this purchase!

Bourht this controller for my mavic 2 pro. Very convenient not to have to plug in my phone to the controller. Connects instantly which makes getting the drone in the air a very quick process. I can fly on 5 drone batteries before needing to charge the remote. Screen is very bright and makes flying very easy in bright sunshine. Feels solid in hand and build quality seems excellent. Very happy with the purchase.

DJI’s Smart Controller is the very best screen and controller experience for the Mavic 2 Pro or Zoom. I have used nearly every alternative combination of the standard controller with phones, iPads, Android, and CrystalSky screens so I am confident in saying yes, this smart controller is the one to get ... if you need it. If you fly occasionally for fun, if you care mostly about portability, if you don’t want to spend more than half the cost of the drone itself then do not get this smart controller and stick with a good large screen phone or iPad mini 5. If you have several recent DJI drones and want one bright screen for them all then go with DJI’s CrystalSky monitor (5inch or 7inch). If you just have a Mavic 2 Pro or Zoom and want the easiest, cleanest, fastest, most tailored experience to the Mavic 2 only, get this smart controller before prices go up even further. Happy flying.

I’m glad I got this. Even though it was spendy, it’s very convenient. Hooks right into my DJI Mavic Air 2 seamlessly. I don’t have to fuss with my phone and my phone is still available so that I can text or talk on. Bright screen, far better than my phone. Highly recommend it if you can afford it.

The smart controller is well designed and very convenient to use. I don't have to tie my cell phone to the OEM controller every time when I fly my Mavic drones. But it is quite expensive and is bulkier and heavier than I expected.

i do like the idea that my phone can share things instantly to friends and social media and this doesn't without transferring to a cell or wifi serviced device. but what I do like is no more interruptions from calls or messages when using my phone. I know I can turn on do not disturb on my cell, but I never remembered to do that.
