Very happy with the purchase, but it is definitely hard to fly. Once you get the hang of it, it is a lot of fun as a beginner FPV drone. The camera feed gets surprisingly decent quality when the connection is strong enough. If you learn to get good at flying this, anything from DJI will have you feeling like a pro pilot.

I bought this drone on November 6, 2023 as a gift for my husband and it was decent while it lasted. My husband will use it occasionally. Today, February 11, 2024, one of the propeller wouldn’t spin. My husband tried to fix it and it just stopped working. You really do get what you pay for. I would not recommend this product to anyone.

The Vantop Snaptain E20 drone is very neat and interesting compared to other drones we own in the family. It is extremely small and lightweight with a decent quality camera. Packaging: the drone comes in a much smaller box than I expect. It comes with a neat compact storage/travel bag that fits everything comfortably and securely. As an organized person, I really like this because it ensures that everything is in one place when I am ready to take it out for a fly. The bag is also very protective and has foam padding to keep all the items safe during travel. When removing the product from the package, everything is contained within the travel bag itself. Included: Along with the drone, the package contains the remote, two batteries, two A and two B propellers, a screwdriver, extra screws, a user manual, quick guide, USB (USB-A to USB-C) charging cable, and 4 propeller guards. Important to note: the guide advises to only fly in open areas, keep in sight, and go no higher than 262ft. Besides avoiding adverse weather conditions, it also advises to not fly in wind higher than 3 miles per second. This may be a typo, because that translates to a whopping 3,600mph, but it recommends flying in only windless conditions. So, they may have meant to write 3mph. Construction: the drone is made of very lightweight but sturdy plastic. While the overall construction has held up well even after getting caught a few times in some tall wildflowers, the plastic has sustained quite a few nicks and scuffs. The camera lens also has a few nicks and scuffs from that now. It has folding arms that snap into place easily, but they need to be readjusted whenever it gets caught anywhere. The propeller guards have worked very well in protecting the propellers during those moments. One thing I learned is that sometimes you have to move the little notch in the guard to ensure it is snapped into place. Two kept falling off for me until I realized I could move the notch without risk of breaking anything, which was my fear. Camera: I was pleasantly surprised by the camera’s quality. My security cameras are larger and have lower quality than this little thing. The photos are clear, perhaps not as vivid as other cameras, but nevertheless great shots with no pixelation or over/underexposure. The videos are the same quality as the photos, as well as smooth and seamless. My recording came out to 25FPS. I do wish I could move the camera during flight, as it can record at any position in a 90-degree angle, but I do not see controls for it to move during flight, so I use my finger to position and leave it where I want it to shoot. App and Phone Connection: the Snaptain app that connects to the drone is pretty simple and straightforward. It updates the firmware for the drone as needed. It includes controls to use if you prefer that instead of the remote. The app controls are helpful and easy to use but it is somewhat confusing to use the control toggles on that versus the remote because they are hard to see. Since they are white overlayed on the camera view that the drone is catching, there is not much contrast between them and the screen. I do prefer how certain aspects work on the app more than on the remote, such as take-off and land. This is because I am able to see that it is actually working rather than waiting to hear a beep. In order to connect the app to the drone, the Wi-Fi has to be connected first. For some reason, this takes me about three tries each time to get the phone to connect to the drone’s Wi-Fi. Sometimes, such as after a firmware update, it just drops the connection and I had to reconnect. It wasn’t a big deal, just confusing and an inconvenience. Remote connectivity: The remote is fairly simple to use, it comes with an overlay of instructions which are really helpful. The remote connects automatically so it’s quick and simple to get flying. One issue I have come across is that sometimes the remote loses connection and I have to turn the drone off and back on to reset the connection. When it is connected, each device beeps to let you know. I appreciate the construction and feel of the controller. It is sturdy, has an area to put the phone, and has handles that pop out if desired. Using the drone: While I enjoyed using the drone, I also found it somewhat difficult and confusing. I was not sure if it was me or the drone at times. To start off, the drone must be unlocked using the toggles, as described in the guide. I liked this part because it prevents me from accidentally starting it, plus it prevents my kids from getting a hold of setting it off. There is also a quick start button that gets it going right away but it also has its safety mechanism as well on the remote and phone. Before flying I make sure to calibrate the drone to ensure that it remains stable, without this it kind of starts flying sideways and erratically. When flying, it goes well sometimes, but at some point, it starts flying in another direction than the one I am directing it to go. This is a bit nerve-wracking as it almost left my backyard a few times going right when I said left. If left hovering, it starts moving back and forth and then kind of going in one direction. Flight time lasts about 18 minute per battery, so it is great that two are included. It is noticeable when it is losing charge because it is no longer able to maintain elevation. Grounding it is tricky. If I press the stop button, it just falls out of the sky. So far, it’s been fine from those sudden drops, but my nerves have been rattled. The remote comes with a speed switch, that allows you to control how fast it goes. So far, I have used it at the slowest setting, and it still speeds up pretty fast. According to the specs, it can go up to 17mph so I recommend starting slow to prevent it from going too far too fast and losing sight of it. Overall, this is a neat starting drone with sturdy construction and a nice camera. I definitely recommend getting practice somewhere out in the open where losing sight of it is difficult until you become comfortable with it. I also recommend ensuring it is not windy when using it. I am still having fun flying it and practicing my drone skill with it.

Thank you so much for sharing your experience. We are sorry to hear you are not satisfied with this item.

Please kindly note that the E20 is a beginner's drone. Therefore, we recommend flying the drone on a no wind day and in an open field place where there are no trees/woods around.

Besides, we hope you could understand that the theory for beginner drones to hover is to hold altitude by its built-in barometer, which defines the height it hovers, but could not control the drone's movement direction.

Furthermore, we have informed your suggestions and feedback to our marketing team. Your voice is vital to our research and development and will enable us to continue to make products that you enjoy using.

    Low budget drone for beginners

The Snaptain E20 drone is a decent low budget option best suited for beginners. It’s a medium sized drone entirely made of plastic; compact and lightweight with foldable arms and propellers, making it easy to carry but it feels a bit flimsy. Setting it up is a quick process; it comes with two 300 mAh Lithium batteries that came almost fully charged as it took me under 30 minutes to have both of them fully charged. The arms unfold and lock easily and it comes with propeller guards that secure easily. Spare propellers are also included in the package. The drone has an SD memory card slot to record pictures and videos in high definition format. The camera records videos in MP4 format and photos in JPG. The remote controller is made of sturdy plastic and the first charging was also quick. It has foldable handles that are a bit small but comfortable to hold. The antennas in the front fold and unfold with pressure and are adjustable. There’s a phone holder that unfolds and has a slider to accommodate different phone sizes. It’s a simple remote with the usual buttons to record videos and take pictures and change the camera angles, with the left control stick to take off and land and rotate, and the right stick for directions. Besides the power button, there are five more function buttons that accomplish a specific task with one press. I have previous experience flying drones and operating the Snaptain E20 is simple and easy. It gets easier if you do it using a phone through the app which gives you a better view of your surroundings. Taking pictures and filming is very reliable and changing the camera angle requires minimum effort. I had connectivity issues a few times with the app. It happened in mid flight on a couple of occasions which can be frustrating especially if you’re a beginner. From the app, you can assign specific flight patterns but with the connectivity issues mentioned earlier, I could only do it once. I tried a few of the one-key buttons on the remote; the take-off and landing button works well and so is the circle fly button. However, the 3D flip and speed switch buttons were slow to respond and it was a hit or miss. At take off, the drone is stable and can be controlled easily even in a tight environment. But after a few minutes of flying, it tends to lose its stability and drift left or right and requires attention; regaining stability requires a bit of expertise. I also noticed that the battery life is very short. On several occasions I get a low battery indicator after barely 10 minutes of flight. I had a couple of surprise emergency stops while performing some simple maneuvers and it was at a high altitude; thankfully I was in a grassy area as it hit the ground in free fall. Being a simple low budget drone, the Snaptain E20 is best suited for beginners. However, connectivity issues and lack of stability while operating might prove a challenger for a novice. I would recommend using it in a vast open area as it can still provide moments of entertainment for first timers.

Paid $199 for this in store. This is my first drone for practice. Opened it and inspected it - the antennas on the controller are attached with cheap plastic and upon unfolding them, the left one immediately snapped at the hinge at the base. I have not even charged it let alone flown it and it’s already broken.

    Decent Starter Drone

The snaptain E20 drone is a decent starter drone. It comes equipped with 2 batteries which is a good feature and a usb charge for the controller. Flight time is under 20 minutes per battery. The controller holds your phone which is a great feature for app usage and viewing. The drone range is limited and while it has one button fly function it takes a bit of a learning curve to fly this drone. The other thing that you should know is the drone struggles in any wind. You need to be aware of this. Best to use in a windless day. That is difficult for those of us on the coast because there is always at minimum a slight wind. This drone is very light. It comes with wing protectors and some extra wings. The camera storage is achieved by adding an sd card. The camera photos aren't bad to be honest with you. Flying through the app and connecting through wifi was a bit of a struggle, but it finally connected. Flying as I said takes some time to learn, but that can be said for any device like this. My impression was that this drone is too light weighted and too plastic feeling so it lacks the heft to give you better control. The lack of range is limiting and scary. You worry that you may go outside of range and then lose the drone. The drone has a nice carrying case, charging cable, replacement parts, and instructions. Overall the drone is decent and is ok as you first drone, but beyond that you shouldn't expect a whole lot more. I do recommend it as a first drone for someone.

Good value for a beginner drone

Verdict: The Snaptain E20 foldable drone is certainly not perfect, and doesn’t perform like a premium drone… but it works better than expected and offers more features than expected at this price range. If you are on the fence about getting a drone to learn and play around in your backyard, this drone is a good place to start. However, I don’t recommend buying this drone to use for tasks that require precision and high-quality footage. Experience. I have been flying drones for about six years now. I have owned a few drones from the premiere drone company in the market, and still have one of their bigger and nicer consumer drones. I am very comfortable flying and I understand the capabilities and performance of a high-quality drone. First impressions. I love that the Snaptain E20 arrived in a carrier case, shrunk down as small as possible to still fit the folded drone, remote, batteries, and extra items. When folded, the drone is quite small. This is particularly interesting to me because I own a much bigger drone that doesn’t fold, so the folded size is remarkable. The remote is also quite small when fully folded. When fully opened, the drone has a nice size and looks capable. When fully opened, the remote provides two antennas. a smart phone holder, and better grip for your hands (nice touch!). The drone is very light, and the entire package when placed in the carrying case is also very light. My initial impressions made me quite excited to try this drone. Specs. This drone advertises an adjustable 90-degree wide angle camera; the camera controls work fine and I was able to shift the angle of the camera during flight every time I used it. The camera specs show 2.7k resolution, however you will not get this quality from the WiFi connection to the drone. To take quality video and photos, you should use an SD card (not included) on the drone (there is a slot for it). The remote includes easy buttons for one-touch takeoff/landing, circling, and 3D flip. The one-touch takeoff/landing works well, but please note that the landing function does not return the drone to the takeoff point (no GPS capability)… it will just land the drone vertically from where it is flying, which could be an issue. If you panic because your drone is getting away, pressing the land button is not the easy solution, and could cause your drone to come straight down into trees or water. Think about where your drone is when you land… it will just come straight down, slow down before it gets too low to the ground, and then land. The circle function works… but I don’t see the utility because the circling using a very small radius and the camera isn’t on a gimbal, so the footage you get isn’t very useful and kind of dizzying. The 3D flip button didn’t work at all… I was most excited to try that feature. Performance. Ten years ago, this drone would have been a revolutionary device. We are spoiled now because one company has really cracked the code on consumer drones, so our expectations of drone performance has significantly increased. The Snaptain E20 drone does fly and hover (with some drift). In my testing, it performed all the controls sent by the remote. I was able to get the drone quite high (still below the legal limit) and almost losing it to the wind actually. There are certainly imperfection in flight, such as minor drift in hover, lateral and forward/backward flying not perfectly smooth, and the WiFi connection really limiting the range… So you need to know what you are buying and how you should use it. This is not a drone to fly above tree tops; it is too light and does not have enough power to counter the breeze above the tree line. Additionally, with limited range, if you go too high or too far, you will lose connection, and thus the ability to control your drone. This is a backyard drone to get the feel for drone flying at an inexpensive price, learn the controls on the remote (which are the same as more expensive drones), and decide if droning is for you in the long-term, or if you become bored to play with it after just 10 flights. I would speculate that most people buy a drone and only use it 5 to 10 times, and then sell it, give it away, or forget about it. If you are unsure of your drone “career,” save yourself some money and buy something like the Snaptain E20 to find out. It works well enough *if* you stay within range and fly on calm days. Things I love. - Great carrying case to keep everything organized - Very small folded footprint for the remote and drone - It flies and hovers (with slight drift), and it can perform basic drone maneuvers - The one-touch takeoff/landing is helpful for beginners - It comes with extra blades, screws, a screwdriver, and protection bumpers - The camera angle can be controlled from the remote - The camera can start/stop video recording from the remote, and take pictures from the touch of a button on the remote - It looks very cool - It’s inexpensive (relative to other drones); great purchase if you want to learn the basics and decide if you want to invest in a serious drone Things I don’t love. - No skids… landing in the grass will get your propellers a bit tangled in grass blades - No gimbal for the camera… Footage will be jumpy during flight. You can still get decent footage if you use an SD card and take videos and photos when hovering - The protective bumpers add weight and create more drag on the drone, so it will impact your battery life. I used them for less than five minutes then took them off. I will never put them back on - The system to hold the smartphone is a bit sketchy. I have a slightly-thicker-than-normal case on my phone and it barely fits into the phone holder. I was nervous the phone would fall out of the remote every time I flew the drone - The WiFi range limits flight to just a backyard or small area. Do not try to push range on this drone or you will lose it! - It’s very light and doesn’t have enough power to fly against wind that is stronger than a slight breeze; fly on calm days only Overall, I think the Snaptain E20 provides good value for the money given the features and given an understanding of what it can and cannot do. If you want to experience drone flying, learn the controls on the remote, learn to record video and take photos in-flight, only fly in your backyard, understand the range limit, and want to save money, this is a great drone to do that. I think this drone offers a lot of value at this price range, but you should manage your expectations and understand what you are buying.

The Snaptain E20 Drone is a good drone, especially for a beginner like me. Everyone has to start somewhere; it is my first drone that has picture and video capabilities. There are many great features that make this drone user friendly. It comes with all the essentials. It has a carrying case, instruction booklet that you can hold in your hands! (instead of downloading it, I hate that). It has 2 batteries, a charging USB cable, a controller with cheat sheet (love that), extra propellers, and propeller guards (one set). It is very light weight so there are no issues with having to register your drone. That is nice, since I am mainly using this drone to become familiar with the controls and using picture and video, not to fly in drone sanctioned spaces. You must supply your own micro SD card if you want to record your video with better quality. You can still record with Wi-Fi only to your app, but there are chances that the signal can drop and the recording is not complete. Also, the micro-SD card has to be 32 GB or you will need to spend some extra time formatting the SD card to a FAT 32 format. I wanted to avoid that hassle, so I got 32 GB micro-SD's. Just pop it in and go! Charging time for the drone batteries and the controller is pretty quick: 30 min to maybe an hour, if that, for all 3. Flying time is about 18 min per battery. For new drone people, like myself, I found that the app setup was very simple. That is important. Once it is uploaded to the phone, you turn ON the drone and controller, then open your phone's Wi-Fi and select the Snaptain option, then open the app and then select "Function Display" on the bottom right. Wa La, you can see what the drone sees. That is coolest thing ever when you are new to drones! I began using the drone inside to get familiar with the controls. I love the auto start and auto land option. Makes beginners feel at ease. After practicing inside, I had a false sense of security with my navigating. Flying in your house compared to outside with wind and obstacles are two different beasts. I learned the hard way not to forget the propeller protectors. The drone bumped into the garage (without guards) about 8 feet high and came crashing down. It did survive! It bumped into a wall inside (with the propeller guards), fell down on tile, and survived. I used it in my backyard and didn't realize that turning the drone the opposite direction would flip the controls. That caused the drone to fly away from me and out of my sight. No matter what I tried (not realizing things were flipped) it kept getting further away. It went over my neighbor's back yard, their front yard, and down the street, where I found it crashed... and it survived. Needless to say, I'm impressed with its resilience. This gives me confidence for when I let my children start navigating it. I was disappointed that it did not have a "return to home" option. But, since there is no GPS in the drone, this makes sense to me now. It does have an emergency stop option and an auto land option. I didn't want to just drop it from the sky, so chose not to do the emergency stop. I had hoped it would still be in the air by the time I ran around the block. It wasn't, all good lessons though. The other good lesson I learned is not to use it when it's windy, except for in a very wide, open space. We have had tons of wind here where I live. I made the mistake of using it in the back yard on a windy day, and it just got carried it over the fence while hovering because it's such a light drone. The 3-D flip feature is cool and fun. The wind has prevented me from completing the auto-circle function. I tried it in a big open area and it just got carried away about half a block down by our crazy wind. The wind was about 16 miles per hour, with gusts. I will reattempt when we have a cool and calm day. The camera can zoom easily and adjust the view up to 90°. I did notice that in a few of the pictures, the quality can be affected the farther the drone is away from you. For example, the power poles in the pictures look wavy. Not something that I noticed immediately, but when you look closely at the picture, it's there. This could also be due to the windiness. My uncle has a couple of very high-end, expensive drones, and I love that I can practice on this one before trying his out. And, I can make these beginner mistakes on a drone that is durable and not so pricy. I also want to mention that there is a drone locator function. I used it to try to find my drone. It seems that there is short window of battery life to be able to put it to use. If it turns off, I think you're out of luck. I was too far away to hear beeps or see the light flashing. Learn from me and don't use it on windy days or if you haven't mastered the forward, backward, left, right flying when the orientation changes. Overall, I'm very happy with it and all the skills I'm gaining. If I had one suggestion, it would be to put 2 sets of propeller guards in the box for beginners like myself.

Never having owned a drone before, I’m going to review the Snaptain E20 as a beginner and give you advice and tips on my findings having spent time with this particular drone. First thing I noticed, taking out the the carrying case from the box is how small it all is and how tidy everything fits inside. First the drone itself, as soon as I took it out of the box, I was surprised at how lightweight it was. The drone itself also looked very small but once I extended out the propellers, it now looks average sized. Also included in the carrying case extra screws, extra propellers, an instruction booklet, charging cables, 2 batteries (which is awesome) a screwdriver, propeller guards, and of course the remote control. First thing first is you’re going to want to read the instruction booklet, without it, I would be clueless to a lot of options and things you can do with my new drone. Second thing you want to do is download the Snaptain app, with the app you’re able to sync your smart phone to the drone, this is very important as you will be able to see what the drone sees through its built-in camera, as well as give you useful information such as battery power levels. Starting up the drone for the first time I was scared and excited, it started up just like it should, but after spending about an hour, just hovering 3 feet up in the air, I was able to get comfortable enough to start flying it a little further up and around. Now this drone isn’t perfect but for its price point, I feel like it’s the perfect starter drone for most people like me. I’m able to play around with it and get used to it without the fear of crashing or losing an expensive drone. Flying it around was pretty straightforward, it’s has a pretty good built-in camera that can take pictures and videos, if you insert a micro SD memory card onto the drone itself, your photos and videos will be saved to the memory card as well as to your phone, if you don’t have a memory card, it will just be saved onto your phone. The controller itself is pretty decent, it’s plastic, but it’s well-built. It holds your phone horizontally very well, I never had a problem with my phone falling off. On the controller itself, you have a few options, besides the actual sticks to fly the drone forwards, backwards, up, down, and making it rotate, you also have other buttons like a speed switch, 3D flips, emergency stop, there is a button to take a photo and a button to record a video as well as a knob to control the camera on your drone by making it go up or down, you can also zoom in on the camera. In conclusion, this drone does have its shortcomings, the wind will push it around because it’s so light, it doesn’t quite hover in place perfectly still like how I would like it, and a few other minor things, but there’s also things to like about it, like I mentioned before, two batteries, lots of options on the actual controller, the app seems to work well, the price is just right. And the most important thing is that it actually works and you’re able to fly it around, so far, I’ve been having fun with it.

The drone came nicely packed, with a carry bag and extra accessories. I was surprised how light it was. Overall build and finish seemed fine. Both the hand controller and the drone are charged via USB-C cable, which is provided, though a short one. The set comes with an extra battery for the drone so you can have them both charged for a longer in flight experience. The drone accepts a micro SD card up to 128GB. You can fly the drone without the app, just by using the hand controller and the inserted micro SD card for pictures and videos. If you fly it without the app you will not be able to se the live images during the flight. For that a specific app is needed (apparently they have several of them, you need to download the FPV version). The app will require that you allow a full unlimited access to your pictures and to your local network devices. Without the full access it will not work. Additionally in order for the app to work you must use the drone WIFI on your phone, the WiFi which is unsecured. So you provide full access to all your photos and movies via unsecured WiFi in order to operate the drone with the app. Personally I did not feel great about it. Of course you can use VPN to provide extra layer of security. The drone and controller connection goes up to about 240 feet, beyond that the connection is lost. That impacted my experience. I started the drone, made it go up and then from side to side. At the elevation of about 60 feet I noticed that controlling the drone was more difficult, probably due to wind, which was about 12 miles per hour. Eventually the drone was pushed away even if I was trying to steer it in my direction, eventually I lost contact with it (the hand controller started blinking) and the drone flew away and down to the lake. I lost the drone and the SD card, not a good experience. My next drone will be something more substantial and stronger that cannot be that easily blown away and has a longer range of contact. Also I will research for the ways how the connection is managed, avoiding unsecure WiFi and full access to my network of devices and all pictures. I will review in the App Store the app reviews and see feedback for by issues. Here I was so excited about the first drone experience that I missed to do my homework. I would not recommend this drone.

We really appreciate your feedback to make this item better. I would like to present our deepest apologies for all the inconvenience.

E20 drone's WIFI is secure. When the mobile app is connected to the drone's WIFI, the communication is only used for image transmission between the mobile app and the drone. The drone does not have internet access permissions (the WIFI signal transmission between the drone and the mobile app belongs to an internal LAN). Additionally, the drone can only be controlled by one connected mobile device (even if multiple mobile devices connect to the drone's WIFI hotspot, only one device can view and operate the current image of the drone; other devices cannot see the current image).

The relative height limit for the drone is approximately 260 feet (the relative height is calculated from the takeoff height, and there may be slight deviations in the maximum outdoor flight height, which is normal). The E20 has a weak wind resistance level (wind resistance: below 2 miles per hour). High-altitude flight can be relatively difficult due to the impact of wind speed on drone controller manipulation. When the drone loses signal connection with the controller during high-altitude flight, the drone will hover at the current altitude for 5 seconds and then automatically descend. However, the descent process is uncontrollable due to the influence of wind speed and direction, unless the controller reconnects to the drone within the effective signal range.

This is a really fun hobby drone! It's definitely not as premium of a product or experience as a more expensive/professional drone, but it still gives a great experience if you're just looking to get into beginner-level drone flying. Taking design principles from other popular drones, this drone's biggest strength is it's portability, with its arms having the capability to fold flush into the body and fit into the included carrying case. Also included in the carrying case are two swappable batteries, 4 propeller guards that are easilly installed/uninstalled, manuals, and the remote controller. The batteries give a decent fly time of roughly 15-20 minutes per flight which is great to get a good session of drone flying in at a park! The remote is decent but nothing to rave about, with a phone mount, two joysticks, camera controls on the shoulders of the remote, retractable antennae and retractable hand grips. The buttons' uses and purposes unfortunately aren't super clear without reading and memorizing the included instruction sheet attached to the remote out of the box, and overall the remote is relatively cheap feeling and likely could have been executed a bit better in terms of functional clarity and quality. Flying the drone is a lot of fun though! It's easy to learn how to take off and fly the drone around, as well as to hold any altitude/position you stop in or control the camera via the remote/app. The light weight of the drone also means that it can withstand crashes or accidental emergency drops well! With that being said though, the drone can be a bit hard to fly if there is any wind at all since the drone is so light, or if you can't tell the orientation of the drone at a far distance or high height (as the controls joystick's directional flight are locked to the orientation of the drone). Also, although the camera is decent in quality, it's likely best used for basic close-range photo and video functionality. This is partially because the connection range to the app on your phone works via a wifi connection between your phone and the drone, so there is a very slight communication delay between the drone and the app (the viewfinder lags slightly behind real time), and if the drone gets too far from your phone (think of maximum wireless router distances to maintain a signal with a smart device), the app connection is lost and you lose sight of the viewfinder/ other app functionalities. Besides providing viewfinder capabilities though, the companion app allows you to holistically control and fly the drone, control the camera, and plan flight paths if you'd like, but again, the maximum connection distance of the drone can be slightly limiting. Overall, this drone is really fun to fly, extremely portable and is definitely a great starter drone, but it might be best to go with a higher quality drone if you're looking to go beyond basic short-range recreational flying.

Many drones on the market are quite pricey. The Snaptain E20 is a cost friendly drone that can still provide many of the features you are probably looking for. This was my first drone, and I was pleasantly surprised with its capabilities. Pros: - The set up process was pretty simple. The provided instructions are more than sufficient to get you going. - The controller has a phone mount that worked perfectly for me, holding it securely in place. I connected an older android smart phone and was able to run the app smoothly. - The app provides a beautiful live stream of what your drone's camera sees. And the controller has a cool function that lets you pivot the camera up and down, zoom, and also gives you access to convenient trigger buttons to take photos or record a video. - The best thing about this drone is the price. Drones can easily be lost or broken, so I love that if that happens, I will not feel as bad as if I had spent a ton of money. - Lastly, this drone seems well built and was able to hold up just fine when I would accidentally fly into some bushes or land with more force than intended. Cons: - While I expect pretty much any drone has this issue, I had trouble using it when there was anything but the lightest of breezes. I suspect that more expensive drones have capabilities to better stabilize in the wind. - If you have issues with the micro SD card not being detected, make sure you are connecting to the drone via Wi-Fi. My phone kept auto-connecting back to my home Wi-Fi so you will want to disable that. Overall, this is a great beginner drone at a terrific price point. I highly recommend it to anyone that is looking to get into the hobby or is just looking for a low cost option to take aerial photos/video.

This is the first drone I’ve ever owned or have ever flown. I’ve been a gamer my whole life, and I’ve been curious to know how my hand-eye gaming coordination translates into the world of real life drone operation. I’ve been wanting to try flying them for quite a while now, and when I saw the new E20, a foldable entry level drone by Snaptrain, I figured this was a good place for me to start. The drone arrives in a small box, just large enough to fit the padded carrying bag which has everything you need to get started inside. Snaptain included a little nine page fold out quick start guide along with a small thirty page user manual. The first steps in the quick start guide are to unpack the drone, unfold the arms and attach the propeller guards. Then you are instructed to remove the battery from the drone and get it charged with the included USB charging cable. I would suggest charging both batteries and the drone remote at this time, with any other USB cables you have available. After the batteries are charged you insert one into the drone and pop in a memory card to record HD videos and photos. Unfold the drone remote, mount your phone to the remote, and peel the protective film away from the drone's camera. To pair the remote to the drone you just press the power button on the drone for three seconds to turn it on, then you do the same for the drone remote. The remote will automatically pair with the drone. Once paired the quick start guide provides a QR code that can be scanned for a link to download the Snaptain FPV app. I did this while the battery was charging, so all I needed to do at this point was open the WiFi on my phone and connect to the Snaptain WiFi signal. After completing the steps in the quick start guide, reading the user manual, and familiarizing myself with the remote control buttons I was ready for flight. The first couple days I had this, the weather wasn’t so great so I got to know it a bit while navigating at a low altitude around my backyard, over and around my house. I was worried about higher winds at higher altitudes and I didn’t want to risk losing my new drone to a strong wind, which can happen. Especially in a neighborhood setting, where I don’t know all of my neighbors and I wouldn’t want them to get upset if my drone landed in their yard. I was able to finally take it up much higher at a nearby park the other day, and I’m happy to report that I successfully returned my drone to myself without any issues. Getting to know the controls is fairly intuitive, for somebody with a gaming background, in my opinion. The hard part for me is learning to watch the live video feed while navigating, versus wanting to watch the physical drone in the sky. I still haven’t found the right balance, but I’ll get there. I have crashed this quite a bit, without causing any serious damage to the drone, which is great! The bad part is that you have to reset the drone after every crash, which is annoying. But after doing that and reconnecting the WiFi, it takes right back off at the press of a button, without any issues. I noticed that the arms tend to get knocked back during a crash, which makes me think they should lock into place better, however, maybe that would cause more structural damage to the drone during a crash and they are meant to release on impact for a reason. I’ve tried flying this around my house, on windy days, to see how well it can handle “obstacle course” type settings. I do have high ceilings and some large rooms, but my navigation skills need some work because I keep hitting stuff! LOL Part of the issue is that the drone doesn’t really stay in one spot too well, it tends to drift just a bit, and a gentle nudge on the remote doesn’t always create the same velocity of movement on the drone. Also, when you rotate clockwise or counterclockwise the drone will drift out of place a bit. Same thing with raising or lowering the drone. These could be little flight nuances that I’ll eventually learn to counter with my flight controls, but I haven’t gotten there yet. Another issue I’ve noticed is that when the battery starts to get to the lower 30%, you begin to have flight issues. The drone will begin to drop in the sky periodically, losing altitude but regaining it soon afterward, sometimes getting to the point where it’s unflyable, even with 15% or so battery remaining. Which means that those last few minutes, of the stated max 18 minute flight time, are not reliable flight, in my opinion. The video feed, along with the video and photo capture abilities on this drone are perfect for this level of drone and work really well. The camera is easy to control using the buttons on the remote and taking photos and video is really easy while flying. The video comes out looking great, giving you a first person view of your recorded journey. I love that this drone came with the padded carry case, which fits the drone, remote and accessories, all so well. And I really like how easy it is to fold and unfold the drone when getting it set up or putting it away. Even with my gaming experience, I’m no pro at this and it’s going to take quite a few flight hours for me to really get the hang of it, but practice makes perfect! Once I’ve successfully mastered this drone I’ll happily upgrade to a more advanced model from Snaptain. I highly recommend this to anyone just starting out in the world of drone flight. I’ve had a lot of fun with it so far and not only am I having fun, I’m picking up a new skill that I’ll continue to master, in a world where drones become more popular every day.

I have been wanting a new video drone for a while, so I was extremely excited to try out the Snaptain E20! I was really surprised when I opened the box to find that it came with (and inside) a specially made carrying case that contained the drone, the remote control, rotor bumpers, spare rotor blades, a carrying strap, charger and TWO lithium batteries! The drone comes fully assembled and ready to fly, with a lot of warnings to read the manual, look through the app, and verify you can fly the thing where you'd like to fly it (including urging you in the quick start and full instructions to download the B4UFLY app). The setup was easy and straightforward, the camera even does this nod to you to indicate the drone's ready to fly! The app is the only really shortfall of this setup, and the biggest reason I can only give it 3/5. The connection is very intermittent, video quality is all over the place and vastly different from the crystal clear video stored to the SD card, like completely different colors! I feel like the connection system could be tweaked in a different way or maybe offer a hard connection between the phone and the controller. I am hopeful that continued updates will improve the app, because when the app works, it works great. With tons of features, controls, settings, and you can use your phone as a controller! You can fly without the app, but that severely limits your ability to direct the camera at what you're trying to record. That said, if you are able to fly in a place with almost no wireless signals (a state park, if you can get permission), most of the interference and issues with the app go away, most, not all, and this was way up in the Wisconsin Northwoods where cellphone signal is offered by 1 carrier and still not good. The battery life is kind of what you'd expect from this price point, I believe they claim 18 minutes, I was somehow able to get closer to 30 on a few flights out in the sticks (absolutely unsure how) but most in the city have been closer to 15 minutes. Battery changes AND charging is super easy, changing a battery is just popping out the old and sliding in the new one. Charging is done with USB-C, which is extremely helpful as I was able to charge from my car! Charging time is still on the longer end of 4 hours, though. Overall, this is still a great drone for the price! I'd still recommend it for someone who is just getting into drone video and photography because there are a few fewer tears after crashing a $200 drone vs a $1000 drone. It's still exciting to fly, produces great video and photos saved to the microSD card, and it is tough! This thing can take a good beating before one of the rotor blade will break, nothing else has broken on mine, just two rotors after accidentally hitting a tree (the tree was unharmed). For me, I will likely keep using the E20 because it is tiny and works well enough for line of sight until I can justify splurging for a DJI or other more expensive drone.

I got this drone as a birthday gift from my dad. To start, I fully charged 2 of batteries (excellent for me) and remote first according to the user manual. At the first time, I flew it in an open area free from interference. It was a clear, windless day, and because this drone is lightweight, I really didn't want to risk losing it on my maiden flight. Overall it’s easy to set it up. After powering on the drone and the remote control, they would be automatically paired without requiring any additional steps. Upon unlocking, I simply pressed a button for takeoff. I didn't fly too high, cause my main objective was to test the various function keys on the remote control. After becoming a bit more familiar with the remote control operation, I attempted to connect the APP Snaptain FPV. Following the instructions and a helpful video from Snaptain site, I first connected my phone to the drone's Wi-Fi, then powered on the drone. This allowed me to see a clear image, and I could use the photo and video functions to capture the scenes I desired. Additionally, the app has some features that are not present on the remote control, and I may need more time to explore them. But it's essential to note that flying the drone is best done in calm weather conditions, and for beginners, it's suggested to keep the drone within sight. As I become more familiar with this drone, I plan to gradually test its capabilities over longer distances, and I believe it will bring even more enjoyment.
