Camera unmounted; brand new drone no longer flies

Drone stopped working after 3 weeks (I haven't even paid for it yet). Camera unmounted mid-flight on its own, now the drone is no longer able to be flown. Went to Best Buy to chat with someone, was immediately dismissed by Geek Squad and told to contact the manufacturer. We shall see how this goes; sent Snaptain an email today. Pretty disappointing first experience with owning a recreational drone.

Some issues but still fun

The Snaptain P30 GPS drone is set up for beginner users, however the overall functionality of it still seems a little complicated. Not complicated in the sense of the word as hard to understand. More so complicated in all the steps and controls to use. I have had to recalibrate the compass several times, before the drone will find a GPS signal and let you fly it ( It seems this happensmore in my backyard than out in a field). They weren't kidding when they said that any structure could cause interference with its signals.Typically it's a gamble as to whether or not the video is synced and showing. I usually have to go through a small ritual of on and off buttons to get the three devices to work well with each other ( 1.Phone, 2.Drone, and 3.Remote - works best)If the phone is not showing any video, then the remote seems to be constantly searching for the device to connect to.These problems are not consistent, but they do happen just enough times to note.
The first time you turn on your drone indoors you will notice that it will not find a GPS signal and therefore will not fly. It will be impossible to launch unless you turn off the GPS mode. This can be achieved by holding the "Speed Switch" button on the remote for 3 seconds while the drone is not in the air. This ATTI mode can also be used outdoors when the GPS signal is too weak for connection. Keep in mind that without the GPS your drone will not be able to Return To Home on its own if the battery is weak or gone out of range. It is also advised to keep a good line of sight when using this mode to better track the drone. The camera will still work just the same in this mode.
The physical controls don't seem very natural compared to most video games, making the movement feel awkward and a little difficult to get used to. I realize this might be natural for a lot of other drones, but it still seems like the up and down should be tied to the yaw left and yaw right stick. So that the right stick can be used to fly forwards and backwards as well as look right and left. Instead these four items are paired in the opposite way.
If you prefer the stick controls swapped, it is possible by holding the camera button for at least 3 seconds then powering on the remote while still holding the camera button. By default it will always be in Left hand mode unless you switch it to Right Hand mode while starting it every time. Left Hand mode is the way it comes out of the box.
The best beginner feature that the drone offers is its hover in place feature. I have used cheaper drones that need a constant user inputto hover in place. As long as the propellers are in good shape the drone will hover in place with no issues. This is even true in mildly windy conditions. I was surprised that at 400 feet in the air on a windy day the drone stayed pretty much where I put it. Another great feature is the RTH ( Return To Home ) feature. When activated the drone will find its way back to where it originally took off from, within GPS limitations. This feature is only available when the GPS is active. There were several times where the drone seemed unresponsive to my directional inputs, because I went just outside its limit ( because of other obstacles ), and it was still able to return safely to my location.
Keep in mind though, that this drone does NOT have any type of obstacle avoidance features. So do not expect it to fly around buildings or poles to get back to its location. If for some reason you do end up losing your drone because it got stuck behind something or in a tree, you can use the locate feature in the app, as long as the GPS was active at the time you lost it.
The drone does not have any IP ratings so I would not recommend flying it in wet weather or above any bodies of water. Especially while trying to push its limits. I have noticed that very low flight paths tend to cause the drone to crash, it appears to get sucked down to the ground from the backdraft of the propellers or something.
In beginner mode the height and distance increments are limited to around 98ft in both height and distance. Through the app you
change these parameters once you activate the Advanced mode.
I have been able to reach a max height of 438ft, but only a few hundred feet on the distance measurements. Video cuts out at about 350 feet, which is actually very impressive as most wifi signals bottom out around 300ft outdoors. Once you come back in range the video signal resumes on your phone. I have yet to find a location open enough to reach a distance of 2650ft. I called tech support to verify the distances, and they said they are possible under the right conditions.
The drone does come with a Micro SD slot in its belly. I would recommend using this for your video captures as it will be more reliable than just using your phone. Plus the video signal to the phone will cut out due to distance and other interferences.
The Photos and Videos are of excellent quality in brightly lit areas, low light image captures do not turn out very well, as there are no infrared , external lights, or low lux options available. The 4k image sensor creates great pictures with lots of detail. The color and contrast seem to be very good as well.
Most of the Smart Functions for capturing video and snapshots work pretty well. Except I have not been able to get the GPS follow me feature to work correctly. The past few times I tried it (on different days) the drone went in opposite directions from me. I'm not sure if it has something to do with the area I am in or not, but it definitely didn't follow me. I was in a park with plenty of space so I am not sure about this feature.
Audio can be recorded , but it has to be manually activated every time you turn on the drone and app.
The Image Follow works well, but the drone keeps its place, and only turns to keep the subject in camera view, it doesn't actually leave its spot.
The Gesture Photo and Video work as indicated in close proximity of approx 10ft or less.
The rest of the Smart features work very well as long as the flight path is clear. Keep in mind there is no automatic obstacle avoidance software or sensors installed, so make sure the potential flight path is clear before sending it on its way.
Aside from using the drone to take scenic pictures, it might work well to make some home movies, but they are going to look like home movies. Even though the picture quality is very good, the camera bounces around a lot. If there is any type of Image Stabilization the bounces from moving forward or backwards are very noticeable. If the drone is hovering and you are just turning the camera from right to left, it actually looks pretty smooth. However wind can quickly ruin these types of shots. I am sure a good video editor can trim out all the bad shots and make something usable out of what is left.
The drone is perfect for assessing needed repairs on high or roof top structures. It is a lot easier to fly a drone around a roof or apartment building to look for damages, than grabbing a ladder and risking a fall. I'm sure there are other areas a drone could get to that a person might have trouble reaching as well. So this might be a great option for a business as well as recreational use.
I might add that I have crashed into two dozen or more objects so far, and the drone still works like new, and I haven't needed to replace the propellers, so I give it big kudos for durability so far. It does come with spare propellers for die hard crash fans.
When everything is working the drone is actually pretty fun to use, however the battery only lasts about 20 minutes under good conditions. It then takes 3 hours to charge the drone battery. The remote control seems to charge much faster. So if you are looking to get a lot of pictures or just enjoy flying it around, you might want to grab some extra batteries.
Overall this is fun to use, I have not been able to take it anywhere really nice since I got it because of work and a rash of bad weather in my area.It does seem a little too limited on the distance feature, but the height is really good. At 400ft in the air I can barely see the drone, it looks like a dot in the sky. It is a little buggy in some of the operations, but it is nice for a tiny portable drone you can take anywhere. Plus it doesn't need to be registered in order to be used ( at least not in my area, make sure you check your local drone usage laws ).

I am brand new to the drone world but have always been curious so I picked this unit up to for the purpose of reviewing so that anyone who is new to drones, hopefully this might help you decide if you should purchase one or not. Some of the things that I was interested in was the remote control and the 4k camera since that’s a few of the most important to me. After charging and calibrating the unit you will need to install the app onto your phone and now you are ready for take off as long as you can get gps from satellites. Take off was relatively simple but being the first time I flew a drone I was really hesitant to test its limits so I decided to hover close to the ground for a while before starting a journey. I took the drone to the school nearby just in case I accidentally crashed and
I was really nervous about that so I wanted to take precautions the entire flight. After getting the hang of things I was able to venture out on my second flight a bit further and test some of the camera features along with how the remote fully functioned and both were very simple to use. I had cut the first flight short because I wanted to check the return to home was working properly. I wish the battery lasted a bit longer because it is almost dead once you start to get the hang of things but this will change with time. The camera works well and can rotate any direction you choose. Overall it’s comfortable to use and I had a lot of fun playing with this. I’m not sure what you get with the higher end drones but for me this was fun and easy to use making it perfect for a novice user without experience.

The Vantop SnapTain P30 GPS drone is packed into an easy carrying bag. Everything is nicely accessible. The bag comes with extra parts and blades, which is a plus. Set up is easy without a manual, but it's highly recommended you read up. The camera quality is great. 4k video and high-def photos are a major factor in choosing a drone. Both are fantastic with the Vantop GPS Drone. The mini SD card is a great backup for the drone. Every picture you take is automatically sent to your cellphone. The awesome part is how the remote connects to my phone through a wireless network. I am able to control the major functions of the camera/video through my cell phone. You have a wide variety of options when you access drone capabilities on your cellphone. You have the GPS options to have the drone come right back to you, even from a few hundred feet away. The controls were very responsive and nimble. The drone itself is very responsive to light touch and awesome to fly. It's incredibly easy to use and take videos. 20 minutes of battery power is not enough. You definitely need more batteries as you'll get addicted flying this mini drone.

Fun Flying Hobby Level Drone

The Vantop P30 is more than a beginner drone due to its capabilities but it is not quite up to spec with the higher priced full featured drones. Overall I think this is a good entry to mid-range drone meant for someone who is looking to have some fun flying a drone for a hobby without breaking the bank.
Pros:
- GPS positioning and intuitive controls make this easy to fly and control.
- The P-30 is very responsive and quick to respond to movement commands
- Good selection of Smart Flight Functions built in that work reasonably well such as RTH return to home, Rocket and Helix fly, GPS follow and Gesture controls
- Photos, Panoramic photos and video can all be stored on the drone with an optional micro-SD card
- Solid Build quality and so far its taken a few bumps without failing
- Remote display provides the drone status and control information in an easy to read format
Cons:
- The included battery only last about 20 minutes and takes about 3 hours to recharge
- The 4k camera captures ok photos but they can be grainy even in a low wind conditions
- At 4k resolution the video is 20 frames per second which is very choppy. The P30 does 2.7 k resolution at 30 frames per second which is a better option.
- No built in image stabilization so both pictures and video can look grainy and show image blurs/movement
- The phone mounts into a locked position in the remote so if you want to hold the remote horizontally the phone gets full sun and that can create some glare issues.
- There is no Obstacle Avoidance capabilities built into the drone so you have to be careful
Getting this drone into the air is very simple. Charge up the batteries; install an optional micro SD card; pair the drone, remote and cell phone; do a quick vertical and horizontal calibration and you are ready to fly. The controls are laid out nicely on the remote and the remote display provides the important flight information in an easy to read format. The remote has a camera and video button along with a Return to Home button, Speed/Mode button and Emergency Stop buttons. The camera controls for zoom and lens angle are turn wheels and easy to access on the front side of the remote. Flying the P30 is fun and the gps and ground sensors make it fairly easy to take off, fly around, hover and land without crashing. In testing out this drone I took it out in some windy conditions and it did a decent job holding its own in the wind although I would not recommend flying it in windy conditions.
Where this drone falls down is in its battery life, image stability and video frames per second. I can consistently get about 20 minutes per charge on the battery but it takes at least 3 hours to fully recharge it. Today many of the drones have a battery life of 30 minutes or more and come with multiple batteries vs the single battery that is included with the P30. When you start considering the cost of adding additional batteries you start entering into the next tier of drones which makes this drone less appealing. The remote uses a rechargeable battery and so far I can get about 80 minutes or four flight sessions between recharges which is nice. Without image stabilizing gimbles or software the video and photo images can be problematic especially if there is any wind. The drone does have a 4k resolution camera but at 20 frames per second the video is very choppy and not that great. You can run the camera at 2.7k at 30 frames per second – common setting I use on my Action cameras but I still find the image to be grainy. If you are buying the drone specifically for video/photo quality this may not be the best choice.

If you are new to the drone world you can start out here. With it being 249g, anyone can fly it without registration. Built in GPS and easy to use app make it stand out. If you are looking to use the drone footage for anything more professional than you should look elsewhere.
Out of the box, setup was pretty easy. Charging the drone battery and controller took about 3 hours with the included usb-c charger. You will need to provide your own micro SD card. Installing the app on android was easy and once booted up and connected to the drone wifi, directions to calibrate was easy. Taking off within the app was easy enough and once in the air, the POV video makes flying the drone easy enough. You do have most of the normal settings that allow you to create certain shots: panoramic views, far shot, rocket shot, helix.. Just be careful because there is no obstacle avoidance which usually is a handy feature to have especially beginner drones. This drone also lacks imagine stabilization, so any wind will make the drone sway and difficult to capture. The image quality itself reminds me of a dash cam, anything really far just doesn't look good. I know it has 4k capability but with photos or video, this barely looks like anything useable, more like 720p. Because of the drone weight limit of 249g, the battery takes a hit with a run time of about 20 minutes. I'd recommend picking up an extra one if you are going to be out and about. Especially since recharging these batteries takes a few hours.

This snaptain P30 Droid is absolutely just so nifty. It flies completely easy and it is easy to navigate with the app that you need. I got this Drone for my husband because he always wanted to try one. It took a few days before we could fly this lovely Drone but it flies great. It is easy to step up with the app with just a touch of a button. Flying was hard to do at first but after a few tries we figured out how to fly it. Flies at the perfect speed and gets high up in the sky. It definitely got our neighbors interested at first but safe interested. Flies smoothly and navigates well back to the ground. My husband is definitely now a Drone user and he has been loving every second of it. He has definitely told his friends about how amazing this drone is. He has been bragging to all his coworkers telling them how awesome this drone is. Especially bragging out how nice the case that the drone comes in. Comes in a nice hard shell case that protects it from any damage when you store it. Plus everything fits perfectly back in the case when you are done. Amazing drone!

Context up front, this is not only the first time that I’ve owned a drone, but the first one I’ve piloted one either. Due to that, I’ve no idea what to compare this to but can gladly share my experience.
Out of the box, the packaging is nice. The packaging comes with a solid carrying case, USB-C charging cord (no wall plug) and the drone itself. In 2023, I’d assume most people have a USB wall plug but it’s always interesting to note what doesn’t come with one vs what does.
Like a lot of electronics, you’ve got to charge both the control deck and drone battery before using. The battery seemed partly charged upon arrival but took a very long time to charge. The control deck didn’t seem to take as long. The tough part though with this only having one USB-C cord, you’ll be spending hours switching the charge between both devices unless you setup a separate cord of your own to charge both items at once.
There’s two sets of instructions, one is a quick start guide, while the other is much more in depth. Seemingly, the drone has multiple settings. One being a default beginner setting, the other being an advanced setting for once you’re very comfortable with the drone.
Once charged, you’ve got to download their app, which is understandable for the device needs. You can easily pair the controller with the drone, and you’ll soon be ready to fly. The control deck has a little extended that holds your phone at the top, which is really necessary for flight to see what the drone is seeing and land/takeoff with ease. My only issue with the phone holder is that it’s barely not big enough. I’ve got the newest/largest iPhone with a slim case on it, but I had to REALLY jam the thing in to get it to hold my phone. Anything smaller you’d have no issue but I’m not taking my case on and off every time I want to fly this thing. The other hassle is that the clamps on the holder, mixed with how tight the grasp is, means you have to move the phone a little to the side so it’s not holding down the volume or power buttons. Frustrating but not the end of the world.
Once setup, you’ve got to hold the drone a few feet from the ground and spin in circles to lineup the GPS and compass with the drone and then you’re off. The drone is light and relatively loud. If you’re within 25ft you’re definitely hearing it but once you get it to 50ft plus in distance, it’ll be near silent.
Controlling the drone wasn’t too difficult. There’s still plenty more to explore but I can’t easily figure out if it’s possible to invert flight controls or even swap which stick handles which portion of the movement, which shouldn’t be too hard to do since it’s not hardwired and would make controlling much easier.
That said, flying the dang thing was so fun. I spent a lot of time with the movement and felt pretty comfortable after about 30min of use. There’s definitely a learning curve but especially gamers should have an easier time. I’d also recommend heavily monitoring children while this is in use as it does seem that so much can go wrong with where/how you fly.
I ended up with a few light crashes on my first flights, nothing crazy and the drone was sturdy enough to soldier on, which really put me at ease.
On the app while you fly or the controller, you can take pictures and videos, which is great. The packaging details how high quality (4k) the photos are but unless I’m missing something in the settings, the photos are fine quality at best. I’ve attached some below.
Taking off and landing was no issue. There’s also other settings in the app, such as rotating the view of the camera, which really helped. There’s also some head scratchers such as the ability to play music… I thought “huh it’ll be interesting to have my drone fly around and play music”, but once setting it up, realized that there’s about a dozen preset song themes and the songs only play out of the controller. Not sure at all why that’d be necessary.
The biggest disappointment by a landslide is how crappy the battery is. The battery legit takes well over an hour to charge, but each charge only gets you 20min of fly time. It feels like once you get going, especially showing off to guests and getting them to fly for a minute it’s time to charge again. Real embarrassing with the poor battery and the main reason this isn’t getting five stars.
Overall though, this exceeded expectations. It’s cool, easy to use, easy to setup and has seemingly enough additional variables to mess with that should make me come back to use this more and more in the future.

I’m not new to RC aircraft but this is my first drone. I’ve always wanted one since they became more mainstream. When first opening and getting set up, I was surprised at how small and light weight the Snaptain P30 is, at under a 1lb. I love how it comes in it’s own travel case that makes it very easy to carry around to fly. I set up the app and got a feel of how to turn it on, calibrating it to the actual drone and placing my phone in the slot above the controller. When connected, you can track the P30 via GPS.
But before going out to fly in nearby Santa Barbara County, I needed to register it with the FAA. I never realized that there were so many laws/regulations on where to fly and the max ceiling. This was very simple and cost only $5 to register.
Going out and preparing to fly, I brought my 14 and 12 year old children and taught them a quick breakdown on the fundamentals of flight and how to use the controller. The controller looks like your basic gaming console controller with a left stick and right stick. Getting it in the air and hovering was the easy part, but the more challenging was learning how to turn, direction, climbing/descending, and speed. I again surprised at how fast the P30 goes and seeing it stop almost on a dime was a great experience. My kids enjoyed it and they were figuring it out, even when it landed on the grass. Thankfully, it was not damaged at all and it comes with spare prop blades and screws just in case you make a hard landing.
The camera resolution is a pretty good 2160p 4k, but they can be a little choppy especially in windy weather. You can do panoramic shots and can store them on a microsd card. I like to fly without capturing any footage. There is also smart flight options which is an added benefit. Some of the options include an autonomous landing mode which helps in case you can’t make that perfect landing, rocket and helix fly.
Overall, for such a small drone this is good for novices. It is durable and lightweight, lot of smart controls that work well.

The Snaptain P30 is an entry level drone (or quadcopter as they were called back in the day) that is easy and fun to use. It has a 4K camera installed and can be used to take snap shots and video as you operate the drone. Setup of the drone is primarily easy. First, thing to do as with any new device is to charge both the drone and remote. Unfortunately only one USB-C cable is provided so you may want to use another cable you might have. It does not come with a charger so it is recommended that you use a 5V charger. Charging the remote controller tales around an hour or so, so charging times are fairly reasonable. The charging time of the drone itself takes around three to four hours. Which makes it quite unbearable given that flight time is only at twenty minutes.
Upon charging and powering on the drone kit, you are are then required to download an app which is available both in iOS and Android. You are then required to connect to the wi-fi signal of the drone. And for its initial connection, you are then required to calibrate the drone. Just simply follow instructions.
The drone itself is initially set to beginner mode which you can change to advance mode through the app. Operation is fairly easy at start. First you have to attach your phone to the remote before operation. Your phone also acts as a monitor for the drone. Once ready, operating the drone is simply done by using the controller. Navigation is fairly easy as using the controller levers are self intuitive. For beginners, I highly recommend operating the unit while using line of sight so as to familiarize yourself with operating the drone. Once you are more comfortable, you can now go to advance mode wherein higher altitudes can be reached
The drone itself weighs only 249g which does not entail getting a drone license nor registration in most states. That said, it also has its drawbacks since operating such a light drone may pose challenges even with the slightest wind. And with like most drones, this model has built-in GPS. The best benefit so far is the return to home function. Just with a press of a button on the remote controller, the drone automatically returns to where it initially took off and shuts down. However, in my initial usage, the return to home (RTH) function seems wonky at best. It was basically a hit or miss for me even though the distance from me was around 20 feet only.
As mentioned earlier this drone has a 4K camera. And while it is a 4K camera, video and stills are not the sharpest. Resolution of pictures taken are only 96dpi. And while 4K videos are known for their large file sizes, these are fairly small since the video files are saved in MP4 format. But then again, one should not expect truly high resolution on a beginner drone. For its intended users, the camera resolution in my opinion is satisfactory.
And while the Snaptain P30 is fun and easy to use, I do have a couple of gripes. First, is that it comes with only one battery. Other Snaptain drones have two batteries included even the lower end models. I have noticed also in the video guide found in the app that the drone kit shown has two batteries. And this leads me to my second gripe wherein there is not support for this specific model in the Snaptain website itself meaning that I cannot even get an electronic version of the manual or find a link where to purchase a spare battery. As such, it is hard for me to recommend this model until such time that Snaptain can provide support for this model in spite of the fact that it is an easy and fun to use model.

Drones 250 kg and larger have certain guidelines and restrictions that must be followed. This created a market for drones that were 249 kg to not be subject to such restrictions such as registration and drone licensing. With advances in technology drone manufactures have been able to pack high quality cameras, long lasting batteries, and capable drones into a small little package.
The Snaptain P30 by Vantop is the latest drone in this category. This review will cover the good, the bad and the ugly of this drone. When you open the box, you first open a small case. One of my favorite things about the drone is that it comes with a semi hard case that everything fits inside. Sometimes the hardest part can be finding a case that will fit the drone perfectly. It is also the perfect side (not to big and not to small). It can easily be put inside of a backpack or handbag. The drone itself is extremely light. Although this is my first ultra-light drone, it feels very cheaply constructed. I am not sure if that is due to it being so light or not.
The next thing I will cover is the battery and controller. Both the battery and the controller can be charged using the included USB-c cable. It does not come with a power brick for charging but it can be plugged into any usb. It can even be charged off a computer or power brick which is a bonus. The battery lasted close to its estimated 20 minutes of flight time. Although this can change depending on wind conditions, I believe this is plenty of flight time for a drone this size. The thumb sticks on the controller easily screw off and can be housed on the bottom of the controller. The controller can hold a phone but if you have a large phone like me (iPhone 14 Pro Max) it will require you to take off the case. Unlike other drones I have used in the past, the phone connects to the phone via wifi and not through a cable. Although this worked, the further the drone got away the signal became very laggy and glitchy. Although it still worked, I would have preferred to have a wired and smoother video feed.
As far as flying the drone it was very impressive. The weather has been windy where I live and even in moderate wind conditions the drone seemed to fair well for being so small and light weight. The video controllers are easy to use and the picture/video quality was not the worst. The footage is more than usable.
Although there are some downsides to this drone, I still thing if you are looking for a small, lightweight, and inexpensive drone then it is worth it. It will do everything that it was intended to do but might lack some features of a more expensive drone. My biggest concern would be the wifi connection to your phone. As long as you have line of sight on the drone this should not be an issue.

first drone owner and Vantop p30 did not disappoint for my first experience, Vantop Snapstain P30 is $299.99 comes on this grey need package, you also get extra blades for future replacement. the drone is fairly light coming at 249g the drone looks beautiful im liking the look it, it look sleek and clean. a micro SD slot could be found on the drone, the controller feels natural on my hands, same color is the drone, a small screen to view data from your drone including, signal, distance, height, D speed and V speed. from multiple used one thing that bothered me is how much i always dropped the controller because it’s smooth, the grip on the back area doesn’t do much, I think if they added some textures would help the controller for better secure protection from dropping.
had to follow the calibration process on my first go run with P30 drone, the issue I had with my area was the GPS connection, it took forever to find a proper GPS connection spot. connecting through the app from your phone had zero issue, on my experience once I found GPS connectivity everything else was flawless. would highly check out the settings on the app to change your distances. from the start the app would set default setting as a beginner user. flight distance, flight altitude and return altitude will be set to the lowest standard, but unlocking where the real fun begins, you’ll go a lot farther I set the distance and flight altitude to its max. just make sure you have a great open space to play around with these settings.
from the week i’ve been messing around and learning how to fly the drone , i’ve been having a great time with it. controlling could take a great amount of time, sometimes you’ll end up pressing the wrong direction, im getting better and having more confidence on turning and overall flying the drone can be interesting. i’m not sure if all drone are the same, but I wish the live feed video was a lot higher quality when viewing, it’s hard to watch from your phone to guide the drone since picture quality seems low.
highly recommend this drone, I also tested this drone on hitting trees to see how well it take a fall, so far everything is working properly with no issue at all. my P30 does have little scratches here and there, but i’m glad to know that it can take a hit and would not even need another calibration even after all the experience it receives. but this drone perfect for beginners and quality is great, again better grip for the controller would have been better but as a user i’ve been having a great time flying.

First I want to say that the Vantop Snaptain P30 Drone is a great little (and I do mean little) drone that thoroughly impressed me. I believe it represents a substantial value at this price point. While I have some little experience flying drones, I consider myself a novice. The P30 drone was extremely easy to fly and setup and I can highly recommend it.
The drone is very compact and light. So light, in fact, that it does not have to be registered as an Unmanned Aircraft (UA) with the FAA, as long as the drone is flown exclusively for recreation and not commercial purposes. Folded in, the drone is just a bit larger than my hand, and the drone and controller fit nicely inside a well designed and compact case.
Because of the light weight, I was a little concerned about how well the drone would handle itself in windy conditions. And truth be told it is probably not quite as stable as a heavier, larger drone would be. I tested on a day when the sustained wind was 10mph with gusts to 15mph. The directions say not to fly when the wind speed is 12mph or higher. What I found was that the drone did a really good job of hovering in place even in this wind. The drone body was angled a bit into the wind to remain stationary but that is to be expected.
Like a lot of products these days, there was no charger included. Since this drone obviously needs to be charged I think Snaptain should include one. I first tried to charge the drone with a universal type USB-C charger that can output 5v, 9v, 15v, or 20v and the drone would not charge with this type of charger (I tried two different chargers like this). I had to use a small wall USB charger with a USB-C cable. Out of the box, the controller charged in about 20min while the drone took about an hour to charge. Once the battery was depleted, it took around 2hrs 30min to fully charge again.
One design choice I really like is how the phone cradle is integrated and hidden inside the controller body. The cradle pulls out and holds my phone securely.
Setup was fairly easy with one little hitch. The first time powering up the drone and controller, the two paired together seamlessly. The Android app worked well once a connection was established between my Android phone and the controller. To connect the phone needs to connect to a WiFi network the controller produces. At first when I connected my phone to the controller WiFi network I could not establish a connection to the controller from my phone. I found that I also had to turn off mobile data in order to establish that connection. Once I turned off mobile data and connected to the controller WiFi network, the app connected to the controller right away.
The Android app works very well and all of the functions are easily accessible and laid out. Using some of the more advanced features like "follow me", point of interest tracking, and orbit features etc are easily done with just a couple taps in the app. I only tested the follow me and one of the orbit features and they worked really well.

First thoughts? Very cool drone, especially for the price!
In the manual, it highly reccomends that when you first fly with it, they highly reccomand you have an experienced pilot with you. That is excellent advice! Fortunately, my neighbor is a licensed commercial drone pilot. Having him there to tutar and advise was invaluable. If you can, plaese do.
In the box is the drone w/ battery pack, remote, USB cable, instructions AND spare blades, screws and screwdriver.
Set up was pretty easy. Charge drone and remote battery, install app, power on and the app tells you how to set up GPS and compass orientation. Pretty simple.
First flight was basic controls. Took some time, but practice makes perfect. The camera is pretty good quality and captures video and snapshots. A nice feature not often found on a drone this affordable was the pan and tilt of the camera. It worked great. Regarding video and pictures, there is a micre SD card slot on the drone. If you don't have the SD, it captures the video on your phone straight into your pictures folder.
Some nice features regarding the GPS is that it has a "Home" button. We tested it a couple times and both times it returned to within about 2 feet of where it took off. It also has a heigth limit and will not go any higher than that. Keeps you from losing radio connection.
End of the day, my heighbor (and his thousands of hours experience) said it was a great drone, especially for the price. I woud (and have) reccomend this to a friend.

It's interesting to see the design choices made by drone manufacturers to be able to pack as much as possible into the limited 249 gram package (required by the Federal Aviation Administration under the Exception for Recreational Flyers). This is my second drone, the first one was from 2019 by a different manufacturer, so there have been significant advancements in video sensors/quality for a similar price point. The P30 has a 4K camera but the final quality of the output videos leads much to be desired; that being said, I do believe this is *sufficient* for a system like this. I'm torn because I believe the general public has access to high quality videos through their cell phones that the exception is SO high but you have to keep in mind that this drone is at a certain price point so there's only so much to expect from this device. That being, the components that come's in the box:
1. Drone w/ removable camera cover
2. Remote Control (built-in battery) w/ adjustable phone dock
3. One (1) x USB-C to USB-A charging cable (for remote control & drone battery)
4. One (1) x removable drone battery - gets about 20 minutes of run time
5. Eight (8) x spare propeller blades = 4 sets
6. Ten (10) x spare propeller screws + screw driver
7. One (1) x carrying case
Recommended purchases (not included items):
1. Additional removable battery to swap out
2. MicroSD card for on-drone recording (as opposed direct to your phone)
3. For ease of charging both battery & controller, another USB-C charging cable
The weather has been temperamental in Denver as of late so it's been hard to get out and fly this thing. The one day it warmed it, there was quite a bit of wind but this drone did OKAY to withstand it. The camera apparatus is mounted on a gimbal so stabilization was alright given how small the mechanism actually is. I would recommend on a clear operation on a clear, non-windy day. Overall, this is a great entry-level drone for those that want to play around casually and have videos/photos from a new angle. Don't expect professional, wedding-grade drone footage; if you want that, you'll have to shell out quite a bit more for that.

This is my first “real” drone, as I have had those kid level drones that you lose with a slight breeze. For just starting off with this one, it is easy to understand and get to flying. Once charged and you have the app installed, connected to the WiFi, the rest of the directions for calibrating and starting up are displayed to you on the screen. By default it starts off in beginner mode which limits the distance and height, and for good reason as I realized the first time I attempted with it turned off, I need more practice.
Video is recorded at 1280x720 on your phone and 3840x2160 on the drone. However, side by side comparisons on the videos make it look more like 1080 just scaled up or down with enhanced sharpness for 4k. But, it is decently clear, just don’t expect to make any professional content with it as it is still pretty pixelated and stabilization isn’t what one would hope it would be. As for stabilization, I took it out on a pretty windy day and it certainly tried its best to remain in location with GPS and its sensors. However, GPS isn’t pinpoint precise, so there is a fair bit of play in it. You can notice this especially with the return to home feature as it will get within about 7 feet of the original landing area.
To capture video at the higher resolution, you have to have a micro-SD card. I had one already formatted in exFAT but it said the card was not formatted, so I let the app do the formatting. Later I attempted to read the files on a PC and it showed nothing on the card despite a GB worth not being available. However, through the app while connected to the drone Wi-Fi I was able to download the videos to my phone at full resolution. After formatting the SD card in a PC again, then inserting it into the drone again, it stated it needed to format and after this attempt, the files could be seen on a PC. So, if you intend to collect the files from the SD card using a PC, test it with a quick video beforehand.
The app is not only for live video and tracking, it has some built in flight patterns as well. For example you can have it follow a specific target that you select with a box. Fairly decent within 10 feet and a high contrast target, like a person in bright clothing. It keeps the subject in frame for the most part. You can get some cinematic style shots like far fly, rocket fly and helix fly that will fly in a specific angle and direction from the point you start it on. However, it doesn’t really keep a specific subject in shot as it just keeps the camera locked in position. Be sure of the surroundings before you start these as the drone does not care what is in the way. As for the camera controls on the controller, the tilt and zoom are a bit too quick, even with slight touch to get a smooth panning image. Also in the app, you can trim, combine, add audio and share your saved videos if you want to quickly get some footage uploaded. Nothing fancy, just select, adjust, save.
One slight concern I have is that hopefully no one else in your area knows what Snaptain is. The Wi-Fi has no security, so anyone can connect to it. If they have the app, that means they can also use the functions of the app. Like viewing the camera, downloading files or starting one of the flight patterns. Though the direct flight controls are not on the app, they could use the patterns or route to cause your drone to fly into something. There are no settings that can be changed about it and multiple devices can be connected to it at the same time. This can also make it so others can see what you see, so you can still have visual control and others can watch from their device as well though.
Overall, if there was a scale of drones that had the cheap pocket drone as a 1 and the pro 8k movie drone as a 10, I would say this one is about a 5 or 6. It is good for someone that wants to start out learning with a drone that has advanced features while not breaking the bank. It is fun for little home videos or creative shots. However, I wouldn’t consider it quality enough to be hiring you for some wedding video or something. I do wish it came with a second battery like they show in their tutorial video though.
