I decided to write this review to help people figure out which one fits them better. I am older (30's) and prefer Socom overall. I like the concept and guns of WAW but I found it tough to play. I like MW2 better than WAW better graphics and guns. COD games are very very fast paced and i think better suited to younger players its more about reaction speed and reflexes. the open mic system is a joke and you will get so sick of the 10 year olds. there is alot more s#@$ talking on socom but your much more likely to find a decent group of guys strategizing and talking to win as a team. only one talks at a time so its not just noise or rap music you hear constantly. Socom is a slower more strategy and tatical team playing game. I personally excel at it. In Socom im usually middle to high on the leader boards. in COD im usually middle to last on the leader boards. The most important thing is know there are cheaters in all these games. They use glitches, hack and modify thier system for advantage and use special rapid fire controllers. So when you get smoked and it seems unreal - dont blow a seal its probably a cheater.

I will warn you now, if you have never played any of the Socom games up until now, it will be very difficult for you. Socom Confrontation is an underappreciated game. When the game first released it was hard to get into a game and play, but after updates and patches the game runs beautifully. The surround sound in this game is amazing and you can hear bullets whizzing by your ear. The graphics are top notch, but every once in a while there are sometimes glitches. If you are having trouble trying to figure out whether or not to buy this game here is some advice. If you are the type of gamer that gets a game for online this is the game for you. If you are the type of gamer that focuses more on single player game, don't get it. This is very underrated, but if this game was reviewed right now, it would be considered top notch.

Socom has been Playstation's greatest online franchise since it first entered the online gaming community back in the early 2000's. Socom has never been known for its graphics, always its gameplay! Not sure why the guy above me gave it a 1, especially if you are rating a video game off its beta (smh). The beta went well, similar to how Halo 3's beta was. The best part about Socom is its clan features, and lobbies for online play. I like the idea of not being thrown directly into a game, but rather being able to choose through the lobby feature. As for clan features, you have the ability to elect clan leaders, play other clans online, see everyone in the clan ( not just a clan tag like COD4), and have your actual clan record displayed at all times. Im pleased to say that the socom franchise made a great move with this video game, and i must say, ITS A MUST BUY! IF you enjoy gaming online, then this game will not collect dust on your shelve.

As a long time SOCOM player, and loyal fan from the start, I have to say that I enjoy this game a lot. As far as people complaining about it being online only, they should read the case, it says so on the top of it! I use my Motorola H505 bluetooth headset since I already had it for my phone, and from everything that I've read the Sony one is uncomfortable. The best SOCOM online however was SOCOM 2. Enowapi was the best, and I hate that they didn't bring that map back. I don't experience much lag at all. I recently had the cable co. come out and I was told that I have about the best speed and connection in town, so that may just be me. It is nice to have 32 people in a game at once. The only downside is the maps are so big that once your teammates get a certain distance away you can't see their names anymore, only diamonds above their heads. This makes it hard to communicate with someone across the map, since you don't know which teammate that you are trying to talk to. You have to say, "Whoever is by so and so watch your 6". Overall, I enjoy this game a lot and play everyday.

this game overall is ok not the best game i have ever played the tactical side of the game i respect but the servers being filled and constant campers who will shoot you when your not looking wich is what has now stated this game to be less tactics more hiding wich does not run the game at a good rate as in the idea of one life is notas fair in a certain way for new players especially when youhave to get used to the controlls wich is a drawback i have played the other socom games lenty of times buthave never seen socom get degraded with hackers and other problem what im mainly saying is that the game takes a wile to get used to lust dont judge the game imediatly just because its socom game play could have been better if the controlls wer not so convioluted !!!

I bought this game based off of how much I enjoyed previous Socom games and the fact that I had heard about how good the Blue tooth headset was. My only complaint so far is that there are no single player missions. Otherwise, now that the game has been out for even a week, the games are easy to get into and they are mostly smooth throughout the whole game. I can honestly say I'm addicted to playing it thus far. If you do purchase it and do not like the game, at least you do have a good head set. Updates are being made to improve gameplay and any server problems.

This game was TERRIBLE when if first came out. I was very disappointed. So disappointed in fact that I put it in a drawer and forgot about it. Bored, I decided to play the game again. It took a 45 minute download. After that the game play, movement and lagging were MUCH improved. I haven’t been able to put it down. I’m officially addicted again. Early poor play has been remarkably improved. A very fun and solid game now.

This game is a prime example of what a lot of games are doing these days. It like they spent all their time trying to make the game LOOK good they forgot to actually make it good. The game looks great, but the game play is horrible. Everything is just so slow paced. I felt like i was crawling around the map the entire time, which makes the shoot outs just plan stupid. Also the shading in this game at times (almost always) makes it very hard to see other players. Anyone who likes to run and gun you will not like this game at all. If you like the previous socoms don't expect the same things bc you won't find it here.

the only reason pepole wrote bad reviews is because ther not any good and because they bought the game when first came out .and like all socoms in begining u get some lag .but it seems to be going fine and wiil be even better when patches come out,And also pepole that wrote poor reviews probably have poor coonections.

I have been playing the SOCOM games since the franchsie started this game is the best one to come out and people will see it as soon as the severs are fixed because they are getting maxed out because of the many users that are logging in at the same time once they fix that this game will show its potentional best online game out there compared to halo call of duty and gears of war.

Confrontation was released earlier than it should have. Initially it was an incomplete buggy game, yet still fun. A year later and a ton of patches later, the game is working like it should have when released, but now there's the Cold Front DLC Pack which is only $15 and doubles the size of the game. Confrontation + DLC = 12 online maps, 5 from Socom 2(vigilance, night stalker, blizzard, frost fire, cross roads) The DLC pack is all snow maps, adds a ton of new weapons, camo, voices, music, trophies, and a new game mode. The free Socom patches gave us 2 new factions and a handful of new weapons. If you get this game, make sure you have a mic. And it's best to join a clan. Many online games have no need fora mic, this is different. It's all about competition and communication. If you want to just play and not worry about teamwork, there's respawn/unranked rooms you can play in. Ranked is for hard core players, difficulty is a lot higher. Since Socom came out for PS2, I have always said it's been the best online shooter and that still holds true today.

I brought Socom thinking it would be my new multiplayer game. I was so wrong! First it took two hours to just get the games started with all the updates and now my Playstation Store doesn't work! So it messed up my network also. Then once I started I took time to make my player profiles, doing the armory and apperance to find out I can't even swtich between the different profiles unless I exit to the main game screen. The game play not userfriendly at all. You can't see a thing on the screen either. I felt like I had hooked up my PS2 up to play the game.

I am a huge fan of this game. When it first came out it had alot of bugs in it that needed to be fixed. Since then they have put out updates to fix the problems. This game is addictive as can be. There is talk of more additions coming for this game that you can download. This is a must have!!!

Its a really great game. This is my first socom and i liked it from the moment I started playing it. I would really recommend people to get this game. At first it will be hard but you'll get the hang of it.

Very dissapointing. A couple of my friends were going to by this, but unfortunately I was the first to get it, and now they are not. I think the problem many people are coming across is they are comparing it to one of the BEST online games made COD4. Comaparison to that Socom is not good at all. Socom has it's perks though, you have to be more stealthier than you do in COD. It's an ok game at best, especailly on rainy days. Other than that; my advice is save your 40 bucks for COD World at War.

Yea so maybe they made it more real but they took away everytihng that made socom great. It's just doesn't feel like socom it feels like a half rate call of duty. The franchise messed up big time for not putting the zipper team on this one so they could go make MAG. I have played it like 3 times and I can't stand it. I have been playing socom since the first one and now I don't know what to play. Good thing I have Xbox so I can play saints row and Gears of war. I wasted my money on this game and on PS3 because I only got tePS3 really for this game. What to follow your friends? Oh you can't do that on this socom you have to have them place where they are playing on there user name and then go through a bunch of screens to find them. Want to crawl around? Nope can't do that. It's just a different game and that's not what I was looking for. I was looking for new maps, new guns, and some new features. They made it a whole different game. They could have called it something else and I would have no idea it was based off of socom. Trust me guys save your money unless your board of call of duty want to play the dollar store version.

I am an old school SOCOM player and this is the best in the series since SOCOM 2. Everyone keeps giving it bad reviews but give them time to patch the issues. The only bad thing about this game for some people might be that it is only an online game, but this does not bother me because on the previous SOCOM games I would only play online anyway. Also buy a different headset because the SONY headset is very uncomfortable. It is comfortable at first but after a while it hurts the ear.

fun game when running smooth, but thats almost never. definitely takes enormous amounts of time loading between which server you want to enter and the game to acutally start. Been playing this game for a year now, and even now maintenance on the servers isnt complete. Constant pain.

I only played the beta so take this review for what you will. I would not buy this game because right now the servers for online are bad so it might take them up to a month or so to fix them and any match you play online will most likely not be a fun experience. As for my options gripe, like rainbow six vegas, you can choose between a whole lotta guns and armor. Well, you cant here. Environment doesn't look as good as in the pictures, so I think they might be photoshopped a little. All in all, since it's only $40, it will tide you over till a good game comes out.
