Those of you who have purchased this now know why we got such a great deal on the headset. The game is just bad. It looks great, but even that comes with a downfall. The shadows and shading makes it very hard to see players that arent right by you. They just put way to much detail in the visuals and not enough on the gameplay. Slow paced. Run and gun is stupid now. I say get the headset and put the game on ebay.

Sitting on the fence with COD and SOCOM

I have been sitting on the fence between Call of Duty World at War and SOCOM for the past couple of months. I ended up picking them both up and I am pleased with my decision. Call of Duty was all that I expected BUT SOCOM is off the chain. Not to take anything away from COD, but you cannot put these two games in the same boat. The two offer two different game play, COD is fast pace in your face shot’em up and move on and SOCOM is a slow, methodical, and provides a tactical challenge for any gamer. I am a combat veteran who served in the Marine Corps and did two combat tours in Iraq as a combat sniper; SOCOM is the only game that I have played in which I had to set the game down because it was brought back feelings of war. I LOVE IT!!!!! I am sure my gf will make me put this game down because it will trigger a nightmare or two, BUT its worth it. If you are like me and reading reviews of people that bought the game, please try it out. Enjoy.

I thinks thye should have waited to realease this game i love the new trphie system and custamization of your characters and weapons but i spent 3-4 hour setting all the downloads and patches and then like 2-3 hours just to get into a lobby and i just got off only playing like 30 mins out of that 2-3 hours. very bad released for socom lovers all over
DO NOT BUY THIS GAME YET GIVE IT LIKE TWO MONTHS IF YOUR CAN WAIT THAT LONG SO THEY CAN GET THERE CAP TOGETHER AND FIX THE SERVER PROBLEMS.

Pretty Good

I would definitely have to say that this is a good game. Its got pretty decent graphics, game modes, weapon selection and customization. Sometimes the server can be quite ugly when trying to get into a game and installing the updates and the game can take a good chunk of time. I would recommend this to fans of the Socom series.

i'll leave my feelings of the game itself aside.
my review is more for the headset.
this thing is heart-wrenching to get working.
for some people it works first time out of box.
others (like me) it takes 7 tries of pairing, deleting
and then trying again....it finally did work, but not after going onto threads and finding out what has worked for other people with the same problem.
my advice...if you have a bluetooth headset...use it and download the game...this one is not worth it. if you don't have a headset..then this is for you, but be prepared to work on it.

I got the game as a gift for my stepdad but i mainly got it for him for the headset. The package did not include any instructions for setting up the headset so to get them we had to go to playstation.com but all was resolved easily... decent product

I think this is a fantastic game. I have played SOCOM since SOCOM 2, and this is fighting with #2 for my favorite. Most reviews focus on lag and server problems, but I havnt seen a major problem since the week it came out. Anyone who says that COD 4 has better graphics is falling right into COD's trap. They remove nearly all detail from a level to give it great graphics. This game has FAR greater detail, and still great graphics. If you own both games, play Crossfire on COD and then Crossroads on SOCOM and there is no way that you can say COD has even close to as much detail. Also, the gun/explosion sounds are fantastic. The character customization is also very cool.

SOCOM... well worth the wait for PS3

This game alone was the reason why I bought a PS3. Socom 3 and Socom 4 were just okay.. Socom 2 was the best until this game came out. I'm not a fan of using a supressor (silencer) for my weapon, but on this game I would say it's a must unless you want to get into a huge fire fight. (that's why I don't use one) I like the big load fire fights on my 47 inch TV with surround sound. If you buy this game you honestly need a good surround sound and HD tv. Also you don't know where some of the enemies are until it's to late. This game keeps you on your toes. A must have for the PS3.

I thought that this was going to to be a good game

I thought this was going to be a really good game from everything that was said about it prior to it's release. When I inserted the disc in my PS3 I had to install the installer program that took forever. I already had downloaded the latest version on my PS3. After waiting at least 45 minutes for the installer program there is an additional download program that takes another 45 minutes. Maybe I was being impatient but I was expecting to but the disc in and play. All of these downloads really put me in a bad mood and was ready to take it back. Finally after all of that I set up my character both SEAL(good guy) and MERC(bad guy) which was nice. The online is ok at best so long as it doesn't freeze on you. I would NOT recommend this game to anyone unless you are a die hard SOCOM fan.

The game and headset combination is a great use of your money. The headset comes with the recharge stand, USB cable, and additional earpiece replacement.
It has a relatively fast registration to the PS3 system, and is basicly free of all headaches that most other mics came with being their problems of having to speak abnormaly loud or the lack of accepting the voice without it being to close to your mouth.
The only downfall of the headset would be its shape, the sharper edges at the back of the device digs into your ear if it isnt adjusted correctly. All in all the Mic was a great investment.
Now onto the game, Socom has been a great franchise to me in the past and is still living up to its promise. The controls are easy to learn by either looking through the manual or learning by messing around with the controlls within the first 3hours of gameplay, the 2-3GB instalation takes a surprisingly short time to finish.
Gameplay follows the great action it has built-up over the years, and giving you the option to customise your own unique Mercenary and Commando/Seal with a variety of options from the headgear to the color of your armor. From the variety of making your clan from the tags and patches, and the addition of you being able to choose your nation that your clan fights for. They consist of Spain, France, US Navy Seals, Germany, and The UK. It will lead you to try out all of the combinations out there especialy because they come with their own unique weapons.
The only downfall of the gameplay I have found is the slow load screens and occasional lag durring games, and the fact that it is only online and has no Solo campaign. But it is well made up by the use of environment to cross from rooftop to rooftop and flank the enemy in a variety of indifferent ways it is definitely worth the extra $10 for the game and mic setup.
I say this is to be highly recommended to any who enjoyed the Socom franchise and those of who need a mic to just get the combination of the two for a grand total of $60 especialy when the Mic by itself is $50 and the game is $60 without any addition, so getting both for the total of $60 is well worth the investment.

Be Cautious Before Purchasing-Online Gameplay Only

I played SOCOM on previous Playstations and loved it but this version really left me feeling like there was something missing.....SINGLE PLAYER CAMPAIGNS!!!! I should have read the box better I guess or actually reviewed it online instead of doing an impulse buy.
I am all for online play but sometimes I don't feel like dealing with some of the people online so it is nice to have single player mode. The game also feels very slow and sluggish compared to COD and other FPS I have played. I am going to give it another week or so and if I am not totally sold on it then I will be selling it on Craigslist or eBAY.
Games like this and Warhawk that were stellar titles on previous Playstations but are limited to Online play only with the PS3 remind me each time why I buy games for my Xbox 360 at about a 10 to 1 ratio. Thanks for the headset Sony but I think I will pass on keeping the game.

THE FACT THAT THE GGAME IS ONLINE ONLY REALY JUST LET ME DOWN (WHATS A WAR GAME WITHOUT STORY MODE?). TO TOP IT ALL OFF, THE SERVER JUST ISN'T YOUR FRIEND WHEN IT COMES TO SOCOM. CONSTANT FREEZES, AND BOOTOFFS JUST ADDS TO THE FUN!. GOOD JOB ON THIS ONE.

This Game is all about strategy and teamwork than Call of Duty 4 Modern Warefare. Use of the Headset is great weapon in this game and it also hinder strategy if communication is intercepted by the Commando or Merceniares. Guns are authentic as Navy Seals and Mercenaries. In general a great game and worth every penny if you play online shooters.

this game was a great deal, but until they do some updates for it its the worst game ever. the server always kicks you out, freezes. i have the best connection ever so when the game freezes there is a problem. if they fix this problem with the server the game would be worth getting it right now, its not a good idea. ima have to sell my game now. hopefully i can get at least $15 for it.

I played through the entire Public Beta and this game will be welcomed by Socom fans from around the globe. Once the servers are optimized for the retail version on Oct 14th Confrontation will be the best online only shooter in the Market.
