Customers are impressed with the Play:5 Wireless Speaker's superb sound quality, ease of use, and strong bass. Many also appreciate its straightforward setup and attractive design, although some find the price to be high. A few users noted the speaker's weight and some compatibility issues with certain devices. Overall, the positive feedback on audio performance outweighs the negative comments regarding cost and compatibility.

Awesome Sound, Solid App, Finicky Connection?

The Play:5 was my first SONOS purchase. Since buying the first one, I've added a second Play:5 and also a SONOS Connect, so my Sony 5.1 home theater system could get into the act. While the individual pieces are expensive, the product is truly premium.
The Play:5's sound great. i have mine on opposite ends of the house (2,700 sq ft), with my home theater in the central, great room. Even with only 1 speaker in a room, the Play:5's do a great job simulating stereo sound. Music is sounds full, with good bass and clear highs. Walking through the house, I've even found myself thinking my Sony system sounds a little "tinny" in comparison.
The App is solid, though not perfect. The "group" function also me to play the same music in multiple rooms, and I love that I can change volume in each room individually, on the fly. However, I wish SONOS would take it a step further - Let me build different preset groups with specific volumes for different situations. If i'm cleaning my house, i want all speakers playing pretty loud. If the baby is napping, i probably want those speakers turned way down or off completely. The ability to do that without breaking and rebuild my group every time would be a game changer, all over again. I do like the new integration with Spotify's app, though i generally go through the SONOS app to stream from Spotify, so I can use the volume adjustments.
I only have 2 gripes about the system so far: One, the system seems to lose connection to WiFi pretty often. Sometimes I can't connect to my speakers to start (or stop) music. Be warned if you have spotty internet connection: if the 'net goes down, your SONOS speakers are well designed paper weights. The second gripe is the 3.5mm headphone jack on the back of the Play:5. When my internet went down, i thought - "at least i can still plug my iPhone in and play music in one room." Nope. I tried everything. My phone would stream music just fine, but plug it into the Play:5, and there was no sound. I haven't proven it yet, but I think the Play:5 requires an internet connection to play music, even when using the 3.5mm jack.
Those two gripes aside, I will be buying more. I would recommend SONOS to any friend with a solid (non-metered) internet connection.

First of all, the sound and deep bass acoustics make any genre of music come to life. Because it’s played through the wireless internet and an app, there’s never any interruption ion to music. You can even leave the house with your phone and the music still plays! Best addition to the home for quality sound day in day out.

The Sonos ecosystem is, by far, the best you can get in it's class for wifi-based music players. Having purchased nearly everything Sonos makes, this addiction doesn't seem to end.
The Class D circuitry within every single driver stage independently, shines through with unparalleled performance matching or even destroying some of the most prestigious brands I've ever owned. Each and every time I have done this, I have been left speechless. When considering how is it even possible for these small-footprinted speakers to compete so effortlessly, I'm reminded of that difference between excellence and mediocre that separates the finite resolution and nuances of my favorite Miles Davis album (Sketches of Spain) in contrast to the essence of the sultry and jazzy voice of Helen Merrill's Born to Be Blue. Well??? What about the mediocre? It's non-existent with Sonos speakers.
My home is routered by the Nighthawk X8 connected directly to my fiber connection. I am a long time user of Spotify Premium. Having said that, between that source, my KS9800 Samsung 4k TV and my Marantz TT-15S1 turntable, the quality resonating from the Play 5's, as well as all of the other Sonos products within every room, is just simply stunning. The highs are of the crispest highs and the lows do hit with a decisive precision you can feel.
Regarding connectivity, it's as easy as 1,2,3... Any 8 year old could follow the directions, literally. As for the cost for ownership, how can you question the value of Sonos speakers after you've paid thousands for other speaker systems that can't compare to them whatsoever? My only wish would be that this sytem was available 25 years ago when I began my quest for "audio utopia."
So, do yourself a favor, and give them a listen. Get them home and do it on a 30 day test drive. See for yourself...nothing compares to these quality-infused speakers, even at twice their price!!

This speaker has to be the best speaker at this size you can buy. At times you would literally think there was a sub in the room. I cannot say enough about the overall sound of this speaker. If you are on the fence about getting this or spending the amount, don't be, trust me!!

I purchased both the Sonos Play 5 and the "equivalent" Bose SoundTouch 30 and took them back to my apartment. I am building a house and plan on outfitting at least 14 speakers, so I wanted to be sure I purchased the right one. I put them side by side (see picture) and put each speaker through its paces. I tested several songs from pop, classical, rap, country, rock... look I'll just sum this up: The Sonos Play 5 beat the Bose system hands down. I was legit surprised. I figured the Bose would have better sound quality and the Sonos would have a better interface. Nay I say. Nay.
One of the biggest things that stuck out to me was you can adjust the bass and treble on the Sonos. With the Bose, you can only adjust the bass DOWN from the standard.
Bose works on 5G, Sonos does not.
The Sonos Play series is awesome. The interface, the sound quality... there's nothing wrong with it.

The speaker itself is an amazing product, especially when paired with a second play5, creating true stereo sound.
My only complaint is with the Sonos app not having a true graphic equalizer available to fine tune the sound. At the very least there needs to be a 3 channel with low mid and high. As of right now there is only bass, treble and balance. The speaker is AMAZING but with out a mid level adjuster, can sound a bit hollow and echo-ey....trying to make up for it by cranking treble can’t be good for tweeters

I’m not sure of a better overall speaker/software combo than this speaker. It just amazes me every time I listen to it, this was a 2nd play 5 purchase, it’s that good.

I guess I was reading a lot of good reviews about this speaker so there was a hype for it. They had some bass but not as much as the Sonos subwoofer. Overall, much better than the Play 1s.
