I’m not a tech person. I wanted better sound from my expensive TV. I’ve had a Bose Lifestyle system for 20 years. It finally died last year so time for a new system. I listened to several systems in the store. Researched and read reviews for 3 months. Ultimately choose Sonos based on reviews and the simplicity. I’ve had the system for 3 months. I choose the Base over the Bar because the Bar would block my TV’s remote sensor. Over the Beam because it is in a very large room and the Beam wouldn’t have enough power. Pros - The Base has excellent sound, crisp and clear. We find ourselves listening to music more. Dialogue is easily heard and understood. Makes movies more enjoyable. Set up is very easy. Plug up the power cord, cord to the TV, run Trueplay and you are set. App works great. No issues with set up or app as others have said. It’s nice to just open the app, select your music and it starts playing. No remote or anything else to mess with. Wireless is great. Adding the sub and additional speakers was easy. Easily paired to the TV remote. Disappointment - Didn’t list this as a con because maybe I was expecting too much. The Base by itself is decent but felt like it was lacking power. Maybe because it’s in a very large room or because I was comparing it to the Lifestyle system which had a separate sub. After two months I purchased the sub and two Play 1’s. Now it will knock your socks off. The sub makes a big difference with movies. I didn’t think I needed lots of base but maybe it’s what I was accustomed too. Con - No HDMI. When spending this kind of money you would expect the latest technology. Especially from a company with such a high reputation. Summary- I recommend the Base. The pros far out weigh the cons. The sound quality is excellent and probably would have been fine by itself in a smaller room. Set up and the app are incredibly simple. Easy to add additional speakers and add other rooms/zones. I will be purchasing more speakers for other rooms in the future. Playbase by itself 4 stars. System as a whole 5 stars.

I wanted good sound, and wireless connectivity, and I got it. The app works great, the playbase has just enough bass that I don't feel like i need to pair it with the subwoofer. I almost got the playbar but I'm so happy I got the playbase. Also, setup was so so easy. Adding extra play:1s were a breeze... actually they were kinda fun.

This is my first Sonos purchase. I replaced my Samsung 2.1 system with this. I can say that if you do not want to ad a Sub and you just want a clean look, this will do that. It has a clean crisp sound. I really do believe that it does what Sonos says it is designed for and that is to reproduce the television sound as it is meant to be heard. Adding a sub may be too much for some, depending on the size of the room and what you intend to use it for. If you play mostly movies, I would go with a system that includes a separate subwoofer. However, if all you need is a basic speaker to really enhance what you hear on television shows and double as a music player, than this may be for you. I must admit that I am on the fence between leaving it the way it is, adding the Sonos sub, or exchanging it for the Playbar with the sub. My wife doesn't like to see wires and doesn't like for electronics to dominate a room so if you're in that same position, than this may be for you. Pros: I love how I can switch between TV sound and Amazon music or Pandora very quickly. I don't have to turn on the television to play music. It's thin. It's unobtrusive. The highs are nice and crisp, although a few might turn the treble down a tad. It's always on and doesn't have to warm up. The music played through it sounds better than bluetooth. It's expandable. Very easy set up and comes with a great app. Cons: The sub really isn't enough for action movies with loud explosions. The spread of sound isn't as wide as I'd like it to be. From what I understand, the sub relies on an internet connect so if your internet goes down, so does the sub. The Playbase will continue to work with your television and remote control without the internet (I tested it.)

We use this unit as our soundbar in our family room. The sound quality is great at low and high volumes. Also delivers a nice low end punch.

Paired the Soundbase with new LG Oled TV. I used 2 Sonos Play:1 as surround sound and it fills the room and has good bass with the sub.

Good projection with slight "illusion" of surround sound. I added two Sonos 1 speakers for better surround sound integration. Bass is fair, but not explosion-rumbling. Probably will be adding the Sonos subwoofer for that. Note that there is NO HDMI connector, the sound from the TV is by optical cable only. In actual use, this makes no difference, as the HDMI sources are connected directly to the TV, which acts as the input controller as well. This is a different setup style vs the more traditional AV Receiver type.

I did a lot of research and did multiple trips to BestBuy to check out. I liked everything about sonos. However in the BestBuy store the SoundTouch 300 was sounding better than sonos playbar/playbase. The playbase did not have a sub connected in the store. The playbar was connected to the sub though. I like more bass but I guess in the store the bass was set at 50% which is what trueplay sets to I guess. After reading multiple reviews about the sub I bought the playbase along with sub. Setup was very easy and it sounded awesome and to my surprise much better than the soundtouch 300. I have set the sub bass level at about 70%. Filled my big living room with great sound and thumping bass. I then tried without sub to checkout the built in sub of playbase. I have set the playbase bass level to high in EQ settings. The bass was good but it did not have the same effect that I had when used with separate sub. The playbase built in bass may be good enough for many but to me the extra money on separate sub was worth of it. I can listen to this forever! I also bought a play 5 which I connected to an airport express to airplay so I can play from any app directly. I grouped play 5 to playbase/sub to play the same song if I want. I can't wait to add two play 1s for a 5.1 surround. Having said that when I played some surround sound tests in youtube, the playbase performed excellently well even without those two play 1s.

I am a very huge fan of SONOS. I bought this to add on to my home theater collection. The app is super useful. This sound bar has a very crisp, clear, sound. The bass was rich. I just hate how it can’t handle 100% volume. This bar with the sub woofer tho oOooo. It would sound AMAZING

After much research and many reviews, I decided on Sonos for my one bedroom apartment. This sound bar is fantastic. It has a nice sleek look under my tv. It has great sound quality and is so easy to set up. I have added speakers and again the set up couldn't be easier. Very happy with my purchase.

I bought this to replace the sound bar I had mounted on the wall underneath my TV. It was a breeze to set up and get using right away. The sound is fantastic - no need for satellite speakers or sub woofer to get a full rich sound. The Sonos app gives you full control of music throughout your house - if you have other Sonos speakers in other rooms. Connect them all or play music individually. Great app. Great sound system.

I tried the playbase over the beam because our room is a bit large and I also wanted to see I could skirt the need for the sub. By itself the playbase is decent. You will hear things you hadnt heard before in the background. You will hear dialog no problem (and that is even without the dialog mode on). Paired with some Sonos Ones takes this to a whole new level. TV sound becomes much richer, and music is just incredible. I may get the sub at some point, but I certainly don't need it at all. The SONOS factor Set up. Super easy. For instance, to pair our tv remote we followed the app instructions to hit the volume up button. Hit the button - done, paired. No punching in codes or looking up your tv model, etc etc. Ecosystem We can push tv sound to the kitchen and bathroom sonos speakers. Need a snack, have to go to the bathroom? No problem you'll hear what's going on. Use Switching back and forth from tv to music is so simple. Play some music, then go turn on the tv and hit the tv remote's volume button and magically sonos just switches right over to tv mode for you. Why Not 5 stars? The only reason I have given it 4 stars instead of 5 is the lack of the HDMI interface that the beam has. For this much money I want the latest tech. That said, if you want to start building out a wireless surround sound system in a large room the playbase is a great place to start.

Very Good quality sound for both tv and music listening. Has plenty of bass for us (we’re not gamers or thumping bass fans). Really enjoy easy access to streaming services. The app is easy to set up and use. Playbase looks great in our living room.
