I recently bought a TV for my living room and wanted to buy a sound bar along with it when i saw this sound stand. I really liked the design and the sound output and quality so i took a chance and bought it. I'm impressed with the sound quality from this HTXT1 sound system every time i listen to it. The subwoofers give out crisp clear bass with no distortion, the mids and lows are clear. The number of inputs on this system is a plus and bluetooth connectivity is a great comfort as i don't need to get a separate speaker for my phone. The form factor of this sound system is great as it raises my TV height and also blends in with the TV. Overall I love this sound system.

Easy to set up, easy to use. Takes up very little space for the $$$ it's better than buying a overpriced receiver, speakers and sub, running all of the cables yourself and hoping it sounds decent when you're finished.

For what it is, this soundbar works great for my setup. I wanted significantly better sound than my TV could produce while keeping the speaker profile as unobtrusive as possible. This product from Sony delivers very well on both counts. I've mounted my TV on the wall, so it's not sitting on top of this unit (see photo). I strongly recommend this to anyone looking for a simple, clean entertainment setup.

So it was time to buy a new HDTV but one thing I noticed (and learned the hard way) was unlike the first HDTVs years ago that delivered great sound, this new era of "slim is in" HDTVs gave the sound quality of a laptop. Looking at room my next TV was going into, I knew I couldn't go for one of those soundbars w/ the separate subwoofer because of the space constraints but a plain soundbar just wasn't giving what I wanted either. That's when I saw the HTXT1. I saw other manufactures were making these sound platforms (Samsung, Bose) but I had my eye on buying a Sony TV and wanted to get a good pairing of TV to sound and am very happy to say I did! I love the fact it has three hdmi inputs in the back so I hook up the DVR, blu-ray, and my older hdmi carousel dvd player and then just use its hdmi-arc (Sony calls it MHL) and just one cable from the HTXT1 to the TV and it all works great. If you buy a Sony smart TV, you can make whatever sound adjustments right there on your screen (took a little time to figure how to do it) so you don't have to rely on just what's shown on the face screen of the HTXT1. Now it delivers great sound but it does a a few quirks. Sony went skimpy with the remote (it's practically a black stick) so you might want to buy a high end programmable universal remote. The top of the HTXT1 is glass and slippery so if you place your TV on it, make sure you've got some kind of good rubber footing that covers a large area or add a strap to the TV or some other mount. The face screen is good for telling what inputs you're using (TV, hdmi 1, 2, 3, blue-tooth) but not if you want to make finer adjustments to the sound quality (again, pair it w/ a Sony smart TV and it's much easier). If you don't like looking at some big clunky subwoofer box or just don't have the space for one but still want good subwoofer sounds, then get the HTXT1.

Great sound base for the money

I've owned high-end 5.1 systems in the past and it would be laughable to think that a sound base will ever compare to a discrete home theater setup. But with that said, I was looking for a simple, inexpensive companion to my 48" Sony Bravia in the living room and the HT-XT1 fit the bill pretty well. I couldn't go with a traditional sound bar and subwoofer setup as originally intended because my cabinet just won't accommodate most of what's available. The most surprising thing about this sound base (especially at this price) is that it actually has HDMI switching (with ARC support) and Dolby TrueHD/DTS HD MA lossless audio decoding. Many competing products (even much more expensive ones) don't have these things. The HT-XT1 also does Bluetooth streaming with a free app, which is a plus. The build quality is excellent; it reminds me of a piece of Sony ES gear. The HT-XT1's sound quality is actually pretty darned good for an inexpensive sound base. It really shines when you can feed it lossless audio from a Blu-ray. Just don't expect bone-rattling bass, however. There's only so much its pair of integrated 100mm sub drivers will do. I'll also point out that this base doesn't actually do sophisticated virtual 5.1 surround like some of the Yamahas (which are more expensive) can. This is strictly a 2.1 box that creates a reasonably good sound stage that will easily fill a small to medium sized room. My only real gripe with the HT-XT1 is its lack of an external subwoofer output. This would be 5-star product in my book if it actually had one. But then again, it's hard to complain when you can pick this guy up for $200 now. In summary, I highly recommend this sound base for the price, if you can live without a dedicated sub.

Great Sound Stand with very few limitations

I bought a 55" Sony W700B from best buy which is a great TV, but let's face it TV speakers aren't the best out there and this is especially true for the W700B (Sorry Sony). I wanted a sound bar but I didn't want to have to block the front of my new TV and hide it's nice appearance and potentially block the IR Receiver. A best buy associate showed me some Sony sound bars with separate sub-woofers which sounded really great but this was for my bedroom and I feel like that would be overkill and I already have a full Sony surround sound for the Living Room. The associate then showed me this Sound Stand and let me listen to it and sample music from my phone with bluetooth. The sound was not as "Deep" as those with a dedicated sub-woofer but the Associate assured me in a small bedroom this would sound incredible and SHE WAS RIGHT! I got it home and used the INCLUDED optical cable and was up and running in 5 minutes. The sound right out of the box is excellent. The two downward facing 100mm woofers give this unit a nice punch no stand alone sound bar can match. If this is for a bedroom or for someone in an apartment building and not wanting to make every neighbor hate them on movie night then I would go with this Sound Stand. Although I would not crank it loud if you have mean neighbors because they will definitely hear it. The sound does not distort even at the highest levels and the only distortion you will hear is something around the stand rattling, not the HTXT1 itself. Music, in my opinion is the best function of the HTXT1, I routinely use it to stream iTunes radio from my iPhone and the sound is crisp and clear with all the levels being very even and not over saturated. Audiophiles would even be impressed, if even slightly. The back has plenty of connections, including HDMI in and OUT, Optical and Analog. I had my neighbor over and had this playing and he couldn't figure out where the sound was coming from, because it really does not look like this little black stand could produce this kind of volume and the HTXT1 Blends in well with my Black TV stand. He was impressed and says he likes the sound better than his Sound bar. Bottom line is you need to know it's limitations, this is not a 7.1 Surround sound with a 12" sub-woofer that is going to shake your house. It is however going to fill a medium or even a large sized room with clear crisp sound along with some nice low end notes you wouldn't expect from something this Streamlined. You can just forget it's there and have wonderful sound to replace your TV Speakers, that is the idea of a sound bar right?

I decided to get a soundbar and it should be as compact as possible cause I need to move out. I couldn't have a big soundsystem with several speakers neither a soundbar with a subwwofer attached. After some listen and review in a BB local, I got this one. You have cheaper bars but to be honest, the sound isn't clear enough and they lack of some features. For me a soundbar should have several connections type and Bluettooth enabled. Bose has a similar device but one hdmi-in only and no bluetooth. Yes, it's sound seems to be a little clear at high level but like I said, my priority was the features described and if they come with a $100 cheaper, better. So I got this Sony device and so far I'm happy with it. Clear sound, easy config and controller, songpal app is ok, bluettoth paired is simple and quick and the power fills a medium size room. If you expect a cinema sound, you're wrong. This is a 2.1 soundbar, with a modest bass level (shooting movies are ok) , clear trebble and some "body" sound. It's an under tv system, an enjoylable upgrade to any tv speakers or like a standalone sound system used with your cell via bluetooth or Xbox/PS devicde. BTW, the sync audio/video is fine with any kind of connection. Of course, alternatives with wireless bass speaker aside get deeper sound. But if you compared this Sony at the same level with others, you'll find this is the best choice nowdays. The design is ok, the front led with the input legend seems to be a little "eighties" but the rest feels good. Tip: left some room in the back side. Read the recommended position to get a better sound.

After purchasing a LED 55" flat screen, I realized the sound quality was very poor & had to max the volume to hear any dialogue, I researched and found the PLATE to be best option for my set up: limited space, it allowed the TV to rest on top, also has 3 HDMI inputs (more than my TV) needed for all my accessories, and the sound is soooo much better, without adding a Tuner/Amplifier! Killed a few birds with one stone! Highly recommend!

Sound quality wise is very good though don't go expecting sonos/bose quality at this price point. Best feature is that you can place the TV on top of it and hence have a neater arrangement. HDMI and optical cable work very well so no complaints with the connectivity. Remote is a bit funky and needs getting used to but apart from that a really good product from Sony! For those of an international flavor, this box is rated at 110v/60Hz though the exact same model is sold worldwide so wouldn't be surprised if the internals are actually 110-220v/50/60Hz.

I bought this soundplate for my Sony tv in the bedroom. I wanted something low-profile because my tv is on top of a chest of drawers. I didn't want a subwoofer on the floor and a soundbar in front of the tv. The soundplate is barely noticable under the tv, until you turn on. Once it is on you have to wonder where all that sound is coming from. It is incredible. Whether I am watching tv, or a movie, or playing video games, it turns the experienceinto a memorable one. Music, dialog, bass, or sound effects all fill the room with crisp highs and powerful lows. Can't go wrong with Sony.

I bought this for my son for his 23rd birthday. I helped him set up/install the sound base and it took minimal effort. Started an action movie and made a few quick adjustments to the bass level and it was good to go. Sounds great with plenty of bass for his apartment. This unit isn't going to replace a true surround system but it is better than the similar Bose unit and most soundbars I have heard. Great for an apartment, bedroom or family room. I would say that this unit is the best you will find for the price.

Available space didn't permit a more traditional soundbar but this soundbase met my physical constraints. I have been pleasantly surprised by the quality of the sound. A show I saw yesterday had a jazz band playing in the background of a club scene. The band's sound was really impressive. Set up was very easy.

I was looking for a soundbar within this price range and was wonderfully surprised to find this. Besides the pristine sound quality, I love the design of this. Prior to this purchase I always purchased soundbars with wireless subwoofers thinking that addition gave more to the surround sound experience. This proved me wrong. Set up was easy (Sony directions are always direct and to the point) and it connects wirelessly with my Sony TV. This is the perfect 'soundbar' for a master or smaller bedroom. You will not regret this purchase.

This is a multi-purpose sound system as far as I am concerned. If you are looking for a TV sound system that does not have speakers all over the room, or an audio system for a den, office, studio apartment, or dorm room where space is at a premium this is the device for you. My set up is a Sony 4K BD player, 25" Asus monitor, and this bad boy. I didn't want a multi-piece set up but I needed an HDMI sound system as the Sony 4K has HDMI output only. Everything fits on a coffee table and if I wanted I can put the monitor and the BD player ON it as it supports up to 68 pounds. The sound is clear, clean and delightfully pure. I have the subwoofer setting on 12 (HAH! take THAT Spinal Tap! LOL!), the bass cranked as well, and the treble flat. I switch the tone between 2 and 3. The way the sound is dispersed is simply amazing. I can walk around it and the sound hardly changes. I put some Miles Davis CDs in the BD player and they sounded wonderful! If you are looking for a music system that is unobtrusive you can't beat this Sony; it disappears! It looks like a piece of black marble and music thru the BD/HDMI sounds amazing. If you are into modern movies with heavy emphasis on massive sound you will want more than this, but if you are like me and into classic Hollywood this is all you need. I would add that if you are looking at getting a 7.1 system so you can "feel" movies like "Top Gun" and the like, this would make the center channel of your dreams. I LOVE this system but it would be nice to have a sub output to kick up the bass just a little. I listen to it at 15 (it goes up to 50) generally and kick it up to 20 if I want a little more bass. At 25 the bass really kicks in but that is too loud for me as i am just 4 feet away. The 3 HDMI inputs is the perfect #: 1 each for BD, game system, and cable/dish. I am very pleased with this purchase, and if you want great sound without having a multi-piece system with a receiver and speakers everywhere this is the product for you.

I was torn between this model and the samsung. I made my choice based on the reviews on Amazon and Best Buy. This product was easy to install. I made 2 connections: power cord and the optical cable (included!). Real easy setup. My expectations were not a $2k sound system, but sound on a budget. BB price matched it to Amazon. I paid $228 for this box. I also used a combination of gift cards. Made my buying decision real simple. The sound is a drastic improvement to my TV. One could argue any sound bar would do the trick. This just seemed clean and easy compared to most sound bars with satellite woofers/speakers. It has a clean and sharp look. It also pairs easily with any smartphone. Pandora/spotify flows thru just right. There is a lot of bang for the buck on this model.

I have had the HT-XT1 for about 2 months and I will begin this review by stating that I love it. Installation of this speaker took about 5 minutes for me, literally I just unpacked it, plugged in the power, hooked it up to my TV via an optical cable and it was ready to go. The speaker looks great (it blends right in with my TV) and is very easy to clean as the top is covered in glass. The remote is slender and has simple easy to read buttons with a sliding cover that hides the more advanced options. Bluetooth works flawlessly with my Note 4, my wife's iPhone 5s, and our children's older ipods at a range of about 30' (which is very common). I live in a 3 bedroom home and can walk into any room in it and not lose connection or hear tearing/skipping due to disconnect in the signal. We have watched everything from 300 to Caillou on this TV and it is great, the volume is easily loud enough to fill the house with music or give impact to intense movies. As a closing point I will mention that when I purchased this speaker I had no experience with pedestal speakers but I assumed that it would be a step down in clarity and volume from the more mainstream "sound bar" however after comparing with friends and family who have sound bars in the 200 dollar range in their homes I am quite pleased with my choice. PROS: Great looking Easy to setup Quick, strong bluetooth connections Easy to clean CONS: None as of yet

We recently purchased the Bose sound bar with subwoofer and the sound quality is amazing!!! Absolutely Amazing! Well, it's BOse so I wouldn't expect any less. The set up was easy and I loved how it has a universal remote to control TV, DVD player, and my satellite. We were a little hesitant to buy due to it being a little pricey but we exchanged a Sony sound bar for this one and decided it would be worth the extra money in the long run! We are not disappointed by any means! This Bose blew us away!!! I couldn't be more happy with this product! Our sales guy was not only knowledgeable but extremely helpful in our decision to buy this product. I love my Best Buy.

Bought a Sony 4K Bravia and wanted something better than the tv speakers and this works excellent! Don't expect the sound to fill a large room without distorting a little but the sound is great and lots of great options for finding the "right" sound for you. Plus the remote is awesome.
