Have had many TV Brands but the Sony's have outlived all our other brands. Wanted a larger TV to replace the Sony we already had for years over our fireplace. So we gave the old one to our daughter and got us a new one. Awesome picture!!! We paid half of what we paid for our old Sony but with so many more features now. Set up to internet and everything else was seamlessly easy! We have had this for a few months now and couldn't be any more impressed!

Great set for the money because it has HDR, Android TV and decent sound. I especially like Android TV because it has more apps than the Samsung TV I purchased before Christmas.

Overall TV is excellent and i love it. Really really happy with the colors and picture quality. I had doubts before buying about motion lag for movies as it is on 60 hz. But with Triluminous Display technology it produces an awesome picture without any motion lag. It also enhances the SD quality which is great. Almost forgot to mention Side Angle Viewing awesomeness, contrast never degrade with wide viewing angle.

This is a great TV. The 49" size is perfect for a smaller apartment. I'm glad I made the decision not to get the 43". I have only had one issue and it's with the YouTube app. Sometimes it fails to launch. Had to restart the TV with a hard reboot to get it to work again. Have not had a problem with any other aspect of the TV.

It's a little different going from a 72" to a 50 " TV but I am very satisfied with my purchase. I love the picture and the Best Buy folks did an awesome job getting me set up and ready. Thanks Guys! You rock!

It's a beautiful TV - But not BT speaker friendly

Why this TV doesn't support Bluetooth headphones or speakers is just a head scratcher. It can be paired with BT keyboards and other like items, but not bluetooth audio items. It's not that the BT is "missing" - all that it would require is a firmware update or flash from Sony. People have been complaining about this for years it seems (at least according to my Google search on why it won't pair with my BT speakers and headphones), and Sony has refused to fix the problem. It's been said that even Sony headphones cannot pair with this TV!
I have two of these Bravia series TV's in my home a 75" and now the 49" and they were far from inexpensive as far as their costs. Buying a $50 BT dongle should have been the LAST thing I needed to purchase to make these TV's friendly for bluetooth based audio.
Other than that, it's a beautiful TV with an incredible picture - it's a bit dark, but fooling around with the internal settings fixes the issues.

It was time for me to upgrade to a 4K smartTV. I do not regret getting this Sony 49 which has a VERY nice screen display. The remote navigation is handy and very enjoyable, having the ease of switching to and from the Apps, etc. and TV watching mode. I'm a frequent "YouTuber" and I must say that in general this TV WiFi signal connection performs quite well.

For this price range there are not a lot of options that can compare in quality. Most 4K HDR tv's are over $1000 and finding one in the sub $1000 range that offers good quality is tough. I looked over many TV's before eventually deciding on the 49inch X800D. You cant spend this low amount of money and expect the quality of a $1500+ TV.
4K content looks fantastic. 1080p content after upscale looks great. Video games on PS4 and Xbox One look great. All upscale images look better than I thought they would and since 4K content is still somewhat limited this is a great thing.
If you are on the market for a 4K HDR tv and your budget is below $1000 I definitely recommend this tv. There are only 4 complaints about this tv None of which are a big deal for me.
#1 I wish it was back lit or full array LED instead of edge lit.
#2 I wish it was native 120hz instead of 60hz However Ive noticed no blurring so far in gaming so it hasnt been a problem.
#3 Black color in a dark lit room looks kind of like a dark grey instead of black.
#4 The remote for this tv feels cheap and underwhelming I think Sony could have sprung for something better but it still works and is easy to use so its a minor issue.

Around a year ago i was in a search for a 4k tv around this price range and it was in between this TV, an LG and a Samsung one. I did extensive research on the panels and it appears that this one is best suited for gaming, whereas the Samsung was better for Movies. Reason being, the Sony has an IPS panel and has some backlight bleeding (not noticable with gaming or some shows on netflix), however, you notice it when you watch a blueray and it has the black bars on bottom and top.
that aside, for gaming this is perfect and for the year ive had it, i wouldnt choose anything else (for the price). The remote controls my Sony bluray player and my PS4. also, pressing my PS button on my PS4 controller turns on the TV. HDR looks beautiful in games as well.

For $799.00, this is the TV to get. Easy set up, cool remote and Android TV is neat. I play free games from Google Play with a Sony Dual Shock 4. I love streaming 4K content through Netflix and YouTube. Great TV!

The Sony XBR-49X800D is a terrific television. Great picture and much better sound than I've been used to from TVs though I do have it connected by optical cable to a Vizio SB3821-C6 soundbar. The set is in the bedroom so it is not connected to my primary stereo system. Nonetheless, I do use its’ internal speakers from time to time and while I have to push the volume a bit, the sound is pretty rich for TV based speakers.
Most people use WI-FI and I suspect that may be a reason for some complaints about slowness of apps and/or some balkiness. I have it ethernet connected to a 100mb Internet connection and I've had no problems with such slowness or balky apps. That said, if ethernet is the way you plan to go note that this unit’s 10/100 connection is incompatible with cat6 cable; you'll have to make do with cat5e.
I can't seem to get sound from HDMI 2 but no problems with the other connections. There is a note in the manual about HDMI 2 requiring an optical cable for sound but the note is a bit ambiguous and not fully explained. However, I love the picture so much and there are no other issues that I decided to leave things as they are rather than going after a replacement. There are 3 other HDMI outputs all giving me sound and if I need more I have an HDMI switch as well.
The set only upconverts 1080p to 4K and since most cable and satellite channels are 1080i or 720p unless you are watching Blu-ray content you won't get the benefit of upconversion. That said, the standard picture is outstanding. I also experimented with the other picture modes and still find the standard mode to be the most pleasing. Even gaming seems to produce the best picture in standard mode. I turned off motion control. It may smooth the action a bit with sports but I found it introduced some occasional slight picture stuttering which got distracting after awhile.
Currently there are no 4K configuration tools and after fiddling with the configuration tool included with the XBOX One S, I recommend staying away until such tools are available to the consumer. I couldn't get the set to match any of the configuration recommendations for the XBOX One S or DVD Essentials as most of the set's controls seem outside their range and frankly such configuration didn’t seem necessary.
The set’s 4K HDR picture is outstanding. 1080p upconversion is terrific but lacking HDR, the image doesn’t have quite the richness in comparison to 4K. Note, the XBOX One S standard output is 1080p and running your set through it for cable or satellite channels will upconvert to 4K but it is not true 4K and other than games and movies I found the TVs standard picture better than when running it through the console.
To be clear, you do get true 4K from 4K material on the XBOX One S console. Also note, I found if you stream the movie channel apps as opposed to using your cable or satellite box, you will get 4K picture most of which will be upconverted from 1080p but they do seem to be streaming in 1080p as opposed to 1080i.
I’ve noted some people are having issues with the most recent Android update causing their sets to constantly reboot and even a factory reset doesn’t seem to resolve the problem. When these updates become available, you should check the Sony Forum, the community section at the Sony website and wait for the complaints to die down or even wait for a possible resolution before doing such an update. I would make that recommendation for any brand.

For the price, you can not beat this 4K TV! It has everything you need to start enjoying 4K. Not many tvs come with 4 HDMI inputs anymore, this allows for all devices to be connected easily. The picture is outstanding. It does a great job enhancing non-4K content. With Netflix, Pandora, and YouTube on the tv, it allows for quick and easy access to shows/movies, music, and videos at just a few clicks. The stand for the tv is a little worrisome, but as long as its up and out of the way it should be no problem. It allows the tv to wobble quite easily due to the size of the tv and the type of stand, but we have not had an issue with it being up on the mantle. The remote could take some time to get used to as well, as its an unique modern design. Overall you can't ask for a better tv for the price.

I choose this Sony TV because of the lifelike color rendering and picture quality. I also looked at Samsung, but the color rendering is over saturated and appears artificial. I went with the 49" because it fits perfectly next to my fireplace in the family room.

I absolutely love this TV. Picture quality is great, but not top quality of course. I mainly use this to play my ps4 pro, which runs very smoothly and has spectacular graphics. I also like to stream shows to this tv, and I must say the built-in google cast is very unreliable. I purchased a chromecast to remedy this issue. This TV is also equipped with HDR, a fairly uncommon feature in less expensive TV's like this one. I thought that was nice. All in all, while this TV is no match for higher quality OLED displays and such, I think it is a superb television for the price and would definitely reccomend it. One last thing: the sound quality is bad, much like other TV's. you should definitely get a soundbar to go with it.

PROS:
-Excellent upscaler
-Very sharp and vivid colors
-Very light
-4 HDMI ports (of which 2 are noteworthy, see CONS)
-Decent price. A TV this size 2yrs ago would've been about $1500 easily
-Color representation is top notch
-Onboard speakers are decent
CONS:
-Dim screen, I have to set contrast and gamma levels to MAX just to see the content on the screen
-If you have a 4K HDR streaming device you'd like to connect, you can only use HDMI port 2 and 3
-To view 4K HDR content via a streaming device through HDMI ports 2 and 3, you have to manually set them to 'enhanced' or your device will not output the content properly
-The onboard Android TV system for the Sony Bravia is very limited. You can't even view 4K content at 60fps. The TV's onboard YouTube app seems to only output 1080p MAX. You need to use an external streaming device to output 4K HDR content at a proper 60fps (you'll notice this when you go to YouTube and attempt to view 4K 60fps videos via the built-in Android TV, you'll only see 1080p as an option for video quality). Thankfully, I still had my Nvidia Shield that outputs 4K HDR content quite well.
Conclusion: Every TV has its quirks. I honestly think this is one of the best 4K TVs I've ever used (I've setup quite a few of my friends' and family member's 4K TVs that were more expensive than this one yet didn't really grasp my attention). The visuals are very sharp. My only gripe is that there's this bug where only HDMI ports 2 and 3 can output 4K HDR at 60fps. Why HDMI ports 1 and 4 are not equally set to that is beyond my comprehension. Lastly, if you own a Playstation 4, in an unsurprising manner - games look fantastic on the Sony Bravia (as opposed to my Samsung 4K HDR 40" TV). Just a suggestion here, any 4K TV less that 49"-50" is a waste of money UNLESS you are really sitting up close to the TV. This 49" is large enough where you can notice the resolution and clarity.
