Customers often highlight the exceptional picture quality, describing it as amazing and great for gaming. The TV's user-friendly setup is also widely appreciated. While many find the price reasonable, some consider it expensive. The remote control receives some criticism, but the overall sentiment is positive.

Great 49" TV from SONY!

Got this 49-inch Sony 900E to replace a Samsung MU8000 49-inch set. Blows the Samsung away with the Full Array Back Lighting w/ local dimming (FALD); Worth the extra pennies for that alone. Smart TV interface, Android, is a little slow and jerky but workable; can be replaced with a Roku or AppleTV if needed. This TV is located in a bright living room and the brightness of the TV set is good enough to cut through glare (set at '20'). Over the air (OTA) network channels look good upscaled and I have the "Reality Creation" setting set at 'Auto' which I think helps it look good in my eyes. The "CinemaPro" setting is probably the best preset for a majority of people that don't want to tinker with the settings.
All-in-all a great TV set that I would highly recommend while supplies last!!!

Bought this in 2017. I am pleased with it. I play PlayStation 4pro and watch sports and movies. Everything is crystal clear. HDR is very noticeable. My only gripe is I wish I got the 55” instead. But, as long as the specs remain up to par, I’m keeping this bad boy until it dies. Highly recommended.

Amazing TV So Far, for the price of $999 As of writing it by far the best TV of the price range BAR NONE!
Pros:
4K/HDR
~6600:1 SDR Contrast (due to an amazing Samsung VA Panel)
~1100 nits with XDR and Backlight turned on to max.
120HZ Panel (for PC Mode and Motionflow)
Virtually the Best Motion for an LCD TV short of an XBR75Z9D (the 65" Z9D has worser motion due to a slower Innoulax Panel)
4K HDR X1 Processor (The best image processing chip after the X1 Extreme)
Full-Array Local Dimming (allowing an LCD to have near OLED level black levels)
Reality Creation (Best Upscaling for a TV, using a image database as a reference, a hardware level chroma/luma upscaler using a neural-network/machine-learning, think of NNEDI3/NGU in madVR)
Xtended Dyanamic Range (Enhances SDR into HDR, essentially HDR Supersampling)
Superbit-Mapping + Smooth Gradation (Basically Supersampling a source material that is either 8/10/12 bit color depth to 14-bit color, then dither the color down to the panel's native color depth combined with a debander to smooth out color gradients while removing color banding)
Cons:
No X1 Extreme Processor (No Dual Database Processing , which an more refined image processing of luma/chroma upscaling using a simulated neural network and denoiser).
Best media player suited with X900E is the UBP-X800 (virtually best bluray player with the best image processing using a more refined ASIC than what's inside the Oppo-203)
or a HTPC running MPC-HC/madVR

I just received my second x900e, after my first one died after just 5 days of use (screen went black and never turned back on again). This new unit, fresh out of the box, has two large green artifacts permanently on the screen, no matter the input or setting. To say I'm disappointed in Sony is an understatement. Add in the inconvenience of having to return to the store twice now to return this product and you can be assured I will never purchase another Sony television again. This is a shame because the picture on this set (when it worked), was great. I can't recommend anyone purchase this based on my experiences. It's incredible to me that I have two Vizios (one of which I was replacing with this TV) that have performed for 5+ years without a hitch, yet this so-called "premium" brand can't deliver one set that works.

This TV is one of the best that I have ever owned. The 4K HDR picture quality is impressive, contrast is amazing, blacks look true black without bluing, the 120hz native panel refresh is excellent for fast moving video, I'm seeing detail in movies that I did not see with my previous 1080p tv. I was looking at Samsung and LG TV's, I'm glad the rep directed me to this one, blows the picture quality of the comparable competitors away, you won't regret taking this one home!

Best 50" & under TV for 2017?

Having used a 47" LG for the past six years with terrible blacks, I've been on the search for a great 50" set for the past year and a half. Initially, I was looking for a 55" and I got a Vizio P55 which had awful flashlighting/bright spot problems due to the IPS panel (I tried two.) Then I tried an LG B6 OLED, which was great minus a cluster of stuck pixels at the very top edge, but I ultimately decided I wanted a 50" for my space.
I was going to get the Vizio P Series 50" because it looked great in-store and had great reviews but it got late in the game for one of those and I wanted a 120hz panel and a tuner.
Recently, I stumbled upon the Rtngs.com review for this deeming it the best 50" set so far for 2017 and the second best 55" set behind OLED. CNET and other reviews aren't out yet but Rtings, CNET & other 3rd party reviewer sites typically agree on the best sets from year to year. Last year the Samsung KS8000 was first but I didn't want to deal with flashlighting from the edge lighting in a dark room environment which many have reported. This year, the Samsung MU8000 falls behind the Sony.
With the Rtngs review and FALD, it was clear that this should be a great set and it is.
With a week of viewing under my belt and trying to find flaws to return it, I really like it. I've watched 4k YouTube videos, cable TV through a Verizon FIOS box, Netflix through a Roku, Amazon Prime through the Android TV interface and a couple 1080 Blu Rays through a PS4. I have not watched HDR content on it yet though. All looked great.
The picture is vivid and bright. In a room with lights on bright to very low, blacks are great - deep blacks. With lights completely off, very good. FALD works well and there are no lighting defects in regards to bright spots or flashlighting. The picture provides great uniformity on near black and white screens. Motion has been great. I'm excited to try out HDR content.
The Android TV smart interface is good. You can use Android apps and link to your Google account. The settings menu is set up well and quick to use. I like the remote as the buttons are all sealed with one continuous layer of rubber so it's easy to clean - it could definitely use some backlighting or glow in the dark. The voice search works great.
Sound - meh - who cares but not bad for today's flat screen TV. Not great or even good compared to any form of external speakers, though, which you should be using if you bought a TV like this.
Going to set up the remote to control my FIOS box soon.. It's light and fairly easy for one person to carry and mount.

I bought the Sony XBR43X800E and liked it so much, I bought the XBR49X900E for my living room two weeks later. Below is my review of the XBR43X800E. My review of the XBR49X900E would be pretty much the same as the 800E with the 900E a tick better and worth the extra money.
The picture in 4K is fantastic and the upscaling from 1080 is close to 4k. It takes a little time to get to know how to use it, but it is great. It has about any streaming service (too many to list) you could want pre-loaded and is very smooth to use. It is very light and was easy for me to hang on the wall by myself. The only negative is the remote, but I knew I wouldn’t like the remote going in. Buttons are too small and close together, but I bought a Harmony remote to use instead.

Pros:
Sexy Design, modern look & Grade A Build Quality.
Very Bright Picture
Vivid colors
Over the Air look very nice on this TV.
Smooth picture
True 120hz Display
VA Panel with 12bit Display
Gaming on this is just wow, input lag is great & even without Game Mode enable picture is very smooth thanks to 120hz.
Android TV 7.0 OS, soon Android 8.0
You can use your Bluetooth Headphones using this TV if you don't want to use Soundbar at night.
Has True HDR
Cons:
Sound from the TV is not as nice as my Sony XBR6 32in 1080p model, lack bass & treble but i didn't buy this TV for the sound but for the picture.
Youtube app don't have HDR support.
I didn't buy it when it came out :(.
Others:
I watch for the first time how HDR works & feel a little bit sad because SDR look way Vivid & Bright but again, i have to get use to HDR mode since it's new to me.

There are times that I wish that Best Buy would allow half stars as I wanted to give it 4.5 stars.
Let's start with the picture, it's awesome. The first time I saw 4K HDR content, it just blew me away. It was spectacular and realistic. Unfortunately, there isn't a great deal of 4K HDR content out there yet so I had to consider how effective the TV was in upscaling. Again, it's terrific. HD content looks wonderful and even SD (due to line of sight issues, I can only receive DirecTV in standard definition) looks really great. I can't say enough about the picture.
Android TV works really well and I really love that it incorporates Google Assistant. I've been playing with Google Assistant and I'm impressed with what can be done. From getting recommendations on movies and tv shows, opening apps, switching inputs and even getting weather reports, everything can be done by voice. I do have a couple of minor concerns with Android TV. At first it may seem unresponsive, i'm thinking that when you first turn on the television, there may be a period of time during which android TV is initializing as after a few minutes it becomes much faster and more responsive. My second concern leads into why I didn't give the TV 5 stars. The apps are more limited than what you can find in the Google Play Store. I don't know if that's a shortcoming of Android TV or Sony, but some of the TV services that I pay for are not available on the Android TV store. I thought that casting from my phone might be the solution but casting never seemed to work right for me. I might get it to work one time, the next time I tried, the system would just lock up. The solution for me was to purchase a Roku Streaming Stick+ and just give up on trying to cast. That one issue caused me to downgrade my rating, if the Android TV store had a wider selection of apps that included the ones I wanted, or if casting had worked better, I would have rated this 5 stars.
As i feed the audio signal through my surround sound system, the quality of the TV speakers is not an issue with me. The bluetooth is also great for linking headphones for private listening.

This TV has a fantastic image mostly with HDR content. The design of the TV is simple, modern and minimalistic. "No shiny metals around." The android system works very well. I was watching reviews on the internet saying it was slow and it did not work well. The tv is not designed for poor internet speeds.
The reason I do not give 5 stars is by:
The remote control does not light up and is very difficult to operate in the dark.
In the power cord has a giant transformer that when you hang the tv on the wall you have nowhere to hide it.
Poor audio quality. For a bedroom the sound is ok but if you put it in a living room for sure you will need a sound bar.

I was reviewing televisions for month before purchasing this one during the Black Friday sale. It was within my budget and always came up on top recommendations from people and websites. going from a 8 year old HD tv with no smart features to this, the picture was noticeably much better. Overall it’s a great buy with great features such as hdr and great upscaling.

After reading a lot of reviews I settled on this TV even though it's on the more expensive side compared to other TVs. The picture quality for sports, regular tv and movies is excellent. Blacks are black not gray, no blurring with sports and the color is vivid. The sound is not the greatest and lacks depth so I added a sound bar afterwards.

This TV is the best you can get right before OLED. Also the 800e but for 200 more just die into the 900e. Its expensive for a LED but is work it . It enhances the TV channels, OTA also look less pixelated its 120hz native ..blacks are black ...just a good tv. When OLED is 500 less then I go OLED

The picture quality is probably the best in class and that’s why I bought it but I don’t understand why this android tv is so painfully slow. It is shocking. If you have ever used Apple TV and roku, I think you will feel the same.
The remote is the worst remote I have ever used. My Verizon cable box and old Apple TV are hidden behind things and the remotes work better than the tv remote.
The sound is not that great either.

This tv is the best bang for buck tv. It has a lot of features that other higher end TVs would cost you over $1,500. It has very good brightness levels for both SDR and HDR content, deep blacks, and ver good fluid motion. The refresh rate is 120hz, great for those who love to watch sports and do not want any motion blur. 24p playback for Blu Rays movies, Cable/Satellite, and native streaming apps without any judder. It has local dimming to improve the blacks when watching dark scenes in a dark room. Full array backlight. Average Input Lag for gaming. Just make sure if you have an Apple TV 4K, Xbox one x, or PS4 PRO to have it connected to HDMI ports 2 or 3. Those two ports are HDMI 2.0 while the others are HDMI 1.4. Turn HDR ON on settings for each input. Hands down the best tv under $1,000.
