I read all the reviews and this lives up to the billing. Great picture, 55" is the perfect size. Easy to navigate through the menus. I would highly recommend getting the highest quality HDMI cables. I have owned a Sony Bravia that lasts and looks great for a long time, so I expect this to do the same. I also bought the Yamaha Surround Sound Theatre in a Box which sounds great. I would get it all in one shot and have the Geek Squad hook everything up and explain it. Well worth the money!!

When my wife and I turned on our new Sony 55" 4K Ultra Smart TV for the first time, we watched a commercial with a Peanut Butter and Jelly sandwich that took up the whole screen. The strawberry jelly was dripping over the sides of the bread and we could see the holes in the bread. My wife and I looked at each other with big wide open eyes and just started laughing. We are both so happy with our purchase, and it came just in time for the Seahawks playoff game. We wish they won, but at least we got to see the clear faces of the players as we watched.

I've had the TV for a couple of weeks now and still have no buyer's remorse. While there isn't a lot being broadcast in 4k yet, I'm sure it will come. In the meantime, the size of the image is a joy. I love too that the physical frame around the screen is so small. There's no clutter, no big box, it's just all screen. I love it.

The Netflix function on the remote only works when it wants to and the TV has issue with staying connected to the WIFI. Other than that, the picture and sound quality is amazing.

Hello all, Since the reviews are based on products and personal opinions (mostly) then here is mine. It took me quite a while to do a meticulous research about what tv brand features and all the bells and whistles I'd like the tv to have. I'm blown away right off the bat. The tv is very nice and I think for the price 1200 is pretty unbeatable. The quality of the picture is beyond expectation to say the least. Look at the pic. On the other hand, some of the reviews are pointless as you read them. Took a good 40 minutes to set up (initial setup and firmware upgrade). It was very easy to set up the tv on its stand. Requires very minimal effort. The built quality is very nice as well. (This tv works out of the box without any glitches) so I'm not sure what some of the reviewers are actually reviewing:)! Needless to say it is a great buy. Very happy with it, and I would recommend this tv to anyone who wants to buy a great tv. This is the Sony Bravia XBR 55".

DVD, Blu-Ray, PS3, PS4, XBOX 360, and XBOX One video is spectacular on this screen. The upscale on low res pictures is noticeably vibrant with bright whites and dark blacks, beautiful and natural looking colors across the full color spectrum. The screen is quick and responsive with action scenes nice and smooth, even with gaming is fantastic. The limitations of the edge lighting tech does make whole picture darker when the scene is dark in general, but the images are still clear and is overall not distracting. I looked for this and other things other reviewers pointed when I first got the TV to test it out, but I found nothing that overly detracted from the overall great viewing experience. Apps are plenty, works great with a PS4 controller, network connectivity to connect to all the video streaming sites is great as you no longer need a console or PC turned on to use them. The google screen saver is a nice constantly rotating picture on the wall when inactive. The voice search remote is nice and accurate for searching for online videos. USB connections to plug in a drive with music and pictures is a nice addition. I have yet to try the screen casting from the Surface Pro 4, but the tech specs say they are compatible (if not Microsoft has an adapter to fix that) to turn the TV into a large desktop. On top of all this the TV is highly energy efficient.

Had this TV for about a month now and we're into the normal working life. The picture is excellent and is quite an upgrade from my 1080P DLP Samsung. Picture stands up to sunlight during the brief period where sun shines in. The online features are nice, but we haven't quite gotten into a routine to use them yet. I have tested videos from Amazon Prime and YouTube through the built-in apps and they look spectacular. YouTube has a number of 4K videos you can use to test that functionality where you don't have your own 4K source. Setup was straightforward, but the onscreen keyboard was cumbersome to enter a lengthy WiFi password. The number of inputs is great although I've used a receiver to channel most of the video inputs through it. The audio return channel (ARC) feature is a great way to pipe the audio sound from the TV to the receiver through HDMI when using the built-in video inputs. I have not used the 3D functions on this TV. No glasses were provided in the package and it wasn't a major purchase requirement. On sale, can be had for a little over $1000 as of late 2015

As of May 31st, Sony has release the latest update which added Netflix as an app. Please disregard all the reviews which says this TV doesn't have Netflix. The Good: There a lot of option for customizing your picture. Even before customizing the TV looks great. The colors are bright, black levels are good. Just takes a little tweaking on the settings to get everything looking better. The GUI is simple to navigate through. Does what I expect a TV to do. Display great picture, and allow me to get to my channels, apps, or features efficiently. The Bad: Two things I've notice is every so often the TV like to start in the Home screen instead of the last input screen. This is more of an annoyance then anything else. The TV sometimes lags to turn on after pressing the power button. The final complaint is no easy access to the sleep timer. The remote has no sleep button, and you have to go through 2 different menus to turn on the sleep timer. Conclusion: This is a really nice 4k TV. Most of my issues can be corrected through updates on the TV. When I originally bought the TV. Netflix was not an available app to use. Now Neflix is available for the TV after it most recent update. The TV will get much better as more updates roll out.

So, having done all the reading and research on 4K TV's, I was a bit anxious to buy one. I had to replace my existing 1080p, but had heard, and seen, all kind of examples where the 4K TV doesn't do a good job presenting regular tv programming whether it comes from satellite or cable. However, after reading reviews of the 55X850C, I decided to take the jump! It is fully compliant to the new HDMI and HDCP standards for the forthcoming UHD Blu Ray Players. Setting up the TV was easy. I did it myself and hung it on the wall where its predecessor used to hang. I also did my own picture tweaking. I mostly followed the advice from rtings.com and some input from the great people at avsforum. The details. This TV does a great job up converting content from charter as well as other sources. The color is deep, vibrant and accurate after tweaking the settings. The settings are easy to access and take some time to do. So be patient and give yourself a good couple of weeks to play with the settings to get them where you like them. I have little to no motion blur watching movies, tv and football. I imagine there might be some with soccer or golf as they tend to produce the most on my old set too. The Android system seems to work well but each app has its own quirks to get used to. And right now this TV is at a great price!

My original reasoning was to get a nice 1080p to tide me over until 4k content becomes broadcasted on cable tv. After all, I would prefer to watch a 4k Sunday night football game than watching 4k nature scenes on youtube. Then, I thought how long could it take for 4k content on cable tv to become widespread? So I decided to take the plunge. Some reviews have highlighted Sony’s upconversion of 720p, 1080i, and 1080p content as well as blu rays. These reviews on upconversion have lived up to the hype. The clarity, color accuracy, and contrast of the picture are amazing. The blacks are deep on this tv (maybe not oled or plasma deep, but deep nonetheless). The picture definitely needed to be tweaked from when it was first set up. (side note: I got the tv delivery and set up for free with the purchase) For the most part, I used the settings posted on rtings.com and settings posted on avs forums. I found that Cinema Pro mode works best on blu rays, and Custom mode works best for when I’m watching cable tv. I turned down the brightness quite a bit as it washed out the blacks. I don’t see any issues of light bleeding and blooming. The uniformity on grey, white, and black screens is great. The colors can become washed out if you’re viewing the tv from extreme side angles, but I sit straight on, making this a non-issue for me. Overall, I am very happy with my new 55 inch 4k sony tv. The tv is worth the price I paid (got it for even less than the sale price since I told the salesperson I'd buy the 5 yr geek squad protection plan with the tv). It is definitely worth skipping the wait!
