Customers recognize the 55" Class 4K Ultra HD TV's exceptional picture quality, vibrant colors, and ease of use. Many appreciate the 3D capabilities and the effective upscaling of lower-resolution content. However, some users find the remote control somewhat difficult to use, and a few have noted concerns about input lag for gaming. While some consider the price point high, the overall positive feedback highlights the TV's strong performance in key areas.

Fantastic 4K television

The Sony XBR-55X930D is a fantastic television for anyone looking for a high end set. Don't be fooled by the cheap sets, real quality cost a little bit extra but is worth the price. This is Sony at its best. The TV is packed with features and technology that will blow you away.
- 4K resolution is great; everything seems just a little bit clearer and detailed.
- 3d works quite well. Active 3D. (Glasses sold separately; Sony TDG-BT500A).
- Android TV is responsive and easy to use; more apps can be downloaded for various streaming services (amazon video, Crackle, hulu, HBO/Showtime, VUVU, WWE, etc.) as well as tons of games and other fun apps.
- Netflix and Google Play have dedicated remote buttons; they are quite handy and provide a slew of options to stream, purchase, and rent content.
- Menus are intuitive and easy to navigate; tons of fine-detail options and the 'Action Menu' allows for quick tweaks to common settings.
- Voice searching with Google is simple, works amazingly well, and provides fast access to information and relevant media.
- I have connected a PS4 controller to the TV but have not used the Playstation Now service (I'm not currently a subscriber).
I have not been able to test out the HDR functionality of the TV yet. Although, other reviewers have stated that it is beautiful on this set and one of the coolest features. 4K and HDR content is still a bit lacking at this point. I hope to get a 4K Ultra HD Blu Ray player soon and put the TV to the test.
The overall image quality is stellar. The colors are vibrant and clear. It has fantastic contrast. Blacks are extremely dark and inky; like they should be. There is no noticeable edge light-bleeding (which was an issue with some of last year's models).
The wall mount (sold separately; Sony SU-WL810) is really cool and fairly easy to use. The mount allows the TV to hang like a picture and sit very close to the wall, while being able to pull the bottom of the set away from the wall to plug-in additional cables. In total, my TV sits just under 2 inches off the wall; it's very sleek looking. Because my TV is wall mounted, I have no opinion on the quality or design of the provided stand. However, I do know that Sony has provided a system of covers to hide and manage cables to and from the TV.
Control over HDMI and Audio Return Channel (ARC) work like a dream with my A/V setup; the TV controls the A/V inputs and volume through the TV/remote. ARC allows audio signals from the TV (such as Netflix and streaming media) be sent back down the HDMI cable to my receiver. Also, provided is an IR blaster to control other devices like a DVR. In my case it doesn't work 100% because the TV remote is lacking some of the DVR specific buttons.
The speakers are not great. Definitely the weakest feature on the TV. They can be heard but are a bit muffled when hung on a wall. I recommend a sound bar or home theater setup to get the best sound experience. I have my TV setup to turn on my A/V system and use the surround sound to avoid the internal speakers.
I hope this review helps. Hopefully, it's a less technical explanation of the features that most people really want to know about. It feels like a work for Sony after writing this review. Unfortunately, I don't work for Sony, they just make really nice products and I felt I should share my thoughts. But hey, if they want to send me some free stuff because I wrote them a nice review... I'd be cool with that! :)

The Sony X930D is a great 4k UHD TV, offering great all around picture quality. It really excels in movies, and it's 4k upscaler is one of the best i've had the pleasure of experiencing. it's HDR mode is very impressive with peak brightness so high that I have to turn it down to watch movies at night. The only flaws I can complain about are the viewing angle is somewhat limited, and when I use it as a computer monitor, the input lag is actually noticeable, but only while gaming which is not a deal breaker for me. It displays native 4k resolution with 4:4:4 at 60hz which provides for amazing sharpness with text and mind blowing color reproduction. All in all, i love the display and will continue to use it for hopefully years to come (or until the next best thing comes out).
The best feature is the android operating system. this FAR surpasses ANY other smart tv operating system on the market.

I was looking for a TV that was less than two inches in depth due to being wall mounted in a bedroom. Didn't want the tv to extrude to much. This tv is on 1.44 inches deep. I got the last year model due to this year was thicker and more money, for almost the same features. The picture is excellent and the android tv is nice. The tv picture show best when view from front. Perfect for my application. Wouldn't suggest watching this tv from an angle, the picture quality degrades. The remote feels cheap, I expected a better remote from Sony. It doesn't even light up, hard to used with out lights on for this reason it makes it a four star Tv.

I bought this TV pre-superbowl. My previous TV was a reliable Samsung 720p plasma. With prices coming down on 4K HDR, and more 4K content out there, I figured it was time for an upgrade. After reading several reviews, and comparing the screens in the store between the Sony and Samsung, I went with the Sony.
I had it delivered, but I did the setup myself. I wasn't wall mounting, so it was a piece of cake to set up. Four screws for the stand, and you're done. By far this is the best looking picture I've ever seen on a TV. Having a Sony sound bar already, I hooked it up to the TV via the ARC HDMI connection. Sounds beautiful and the TV volume syncs with the sound bar volume to get a great sound. Games look great on it.
A week later however, the TV would start going crazy after about 10 minutes. (see pic) I had to return it the BB store for a new one, take then new one home, and set it up again. The store was great about returning it, even though I didn't have the original packaging anymore, but the entire process was still a hassle.

Picture quality and form factor are great, however Sony really dropped the ball in several areas if the set is wall mounted. And the big wow factor with this TV is the ability to mount it so close to the wall! What Sony doesn't show in the advertisements is, it just doesn't have a wall power cord, it's got a huge power block. If your very crafty you can duct tape the power block on the wall bracket. Now getting the HDMI and ethernet cable to the TV, is another pain. Sony designed the wireways for table top mounting not wall mounting .. So get the thinnest HDMI cables you can find. Lastly, no side usb ports for media. You have to pull the TV away from the wall about several inches and use a flashlight to fish the usb stick into the well hidden port. Other than than....

At first I thought I'd be impressed - nah. Picture is O.K., but have to fiddle with too many settings to get things right. Each input has to be configured to its source. 4K movies do look great, but sometimes when the HDR feature is on, the screen is way to bright. The 3D feature works, but the Sony 3d glasses, that you have to buy separate, are not meant for human faces. Have my set connected to a Xbox Slim. Great picture for games. The remote control that comes with the TV is poorly designed. Sound on this TV is terrible. There is no Bass. Had to buy a sound bar. The Smart TV functions are a jumbled mess - to get to the settings for the TV adjustments, you have to go thru too much junk and advertisements to get there. Evidently there was no "human engineering" that went into this TV on any of the features. Also there are hundreds of little pieces of styrofoam used for packing this TV in its box. You'll never get it back into the box the same way it came..... Overall, as a TV, I give it an O.K. rating.

Combed thru multiple reviews prior to buying TV. Great picture for movies and football. Love the detail with Xbox gaming. Got it on sale so cost was a little less of an issue, but justified due to quality with my last Sony Bravia, which I still have, still in great working order.

Good TV - Bad Dark Scene Contrast

I was looking to replace a 42" plasma with a larger 4K HDR display. I originally bought the Sony XBR-55X850D but returned it when there was flickering in fast-moving scenes (i.e. Flames). I looked around at other options but kept coming back to Sony displays. The sales associate I had bought from previously sold me on this nicer model which touted even greater HDR display abilities. I decided it was worth a little extra money and made the purchase. Overall, the display does well and bright scenes (especially animated) really look good. However, to my dismay, any dark scenes look horrible. I have messed around with all the different settings I can find, but nothing seems to make it better. I'm outside of the BB return policy period, but I'm really hoping that someone will help to rectify this experience by allowing a return/exchange of what I feel is a malfunctioning product. If Sony does indeed read and respond to these reviews, I would also hope they would stand by their products and company name to help make this right.

Great TV, amazing contrast and bright colors, not as bright as the Samsungs but the colors are better with plenty of features to make your own adjustments. Sony has one of the best processing technology available, the TV has wi-fi, smart media and mirror screen to conect with your cell phone or tablet. The TV looks great and it has a nice black finish, the screen is only one inch thick and it has plenty of HDMI inputs and outputs. This is the last Sony model with 3D capabilities since Sony eliminate the feature on the new models. Only issue is that you will need to buy the expensive glasses and sinc the glasses with the TV.
The TV menu is a little annoying to use and the feature that allow you to use the TV remote control to manage the cable box is not intuitive and it take several steps to do one thing.
I had the TV for over 3 months and so far is perfect, no black pixels and the 4k upscale feature is great specially with blueray DVDs. This is one of the best Tv's you can get.
I would recommend the TV to anyone.

I have owned several Sony products in the pas including Tvs. I wanted to purchase a 4K TV so I did several hours of reading the reviews. I was very concerned that some of the models that sony put out had issues. So I waited a few weeks and purchase the Xbr55x930d. Simply A stunning piece of equipment. Thank you Sony. The speakers are average so I purchased the HT NT5 Sony sound bar and so far I have enjoyed listening and enjoying quality sound from movies from my new upgraded UHp H1 Sony BluRay player or paring my I phone to it.
All Items can be Bravia Synced which is a nice feature.
I also have a set top box from Direct Tv that is hooked up to the sound bar using the IR Blaster.
The only stumbling block is when you hook up devices to the sound Bar and you initiate the IR Blaster set up you will notice that the TV remote will no longer control the operating functions of the BluRay player and sound Bar. " I worked with Sony second level support on this to make sure I had correctly set my system up and I had. There was a solution from Sony to purchase a Universal Remote or I could disconnect the BluRay player and connect it directly to a HDMI input on the TV. One I spent a descent amount of money on these quality components from the same Brand. You think a supplied remote should be able to control their products. Two if I bought a quality sound bar and BluRay player to hear the decoded recording (DTS) etc. why would I bypass the sound bar and loose the listening pleasure.
So I unhooked the IR Blaster for now so I can use my nice TV remote to control.
Thank you again Sony for the enjoyment of the TV.

I purchased the Sony - 55 Class (54.6 Diag) - Led - 2160p - Smart - 3d - 4k Ultra Hd Tv With High Dynamic Range - Black in June and after nearly six months of viewing I can say the image quality of this television is nothing less than stunning! I originally purchased the Sony XBR-55X850D despite several negative reviews regarding light bleed from the screen edges. Unfortunately once the unit was delivered I suffered the same issues and promptly returned it, biting the bullet and upgraded to the XBR-55X930D at twice the price. (Huge kudos to Best Buy for their outstanding customer support. My account was credited and new TV was delivered promptly and return unit was removed. No muss no fuss. Thank you!) What a difference! Rich inky blacks, vibrant color and amazing upscaling of HD content. The speakers are weak but that is to be expected with a monitor so razor-thin. I have recently paired it with a Samsung K950 Dolby Atmos Soundbar and Samsung 4K Blu Ray player and the results are amazing! My only regret is now the 65" version is the same price I paid for the 55"!

Providing that you have good content, the best color and the blackest background with detail. 1080p upscaling is great. 4K video from my Phantom 3 Pro looks awesome. Although active 3D has more resolution, the ghosting can become an annoyance at times in dark scenes, keeping the correct room lighting can reduce this effect.
My best settings were:
Cinema home
Brightness 25
Contrast Max
Black level 50
Sharpness 50
Turn off hdr and all other auto enhancements.
Adjust motion control to your taste.

This TV has an amazing picture. In 4K with HDR it looks so crisp you feel like you could jump into the film. The set also comes with tons of bells and whistles as far as features and function goes. From the easy to use Android OS which controls its smart TV functionality to all the video processing options for reducing picture noise or creating a smoother picture.
Yet there is one major caveat I have discovered. The TV does not do 4K gaming well at all! I originally purchased this TV for the purpose of playing the new Sony Playstation Pro, which allows you to play games in 4K with HDR. One would think this TV, a Sony top tier TV, would work wonderfully with their new Playstation hardware. Alas it does not! The input lag is horrendous! With something like 111ms of lag when in 4K with HDR. Even after a firmware upgrade which seems to have dropped the lag to the low 70ms to high 60ms this is just an unacceptable amount of lag for gaming, where even the casual gamers will notice a problem!
Sony hopefully will come out with a fix for this somehow (I Hope!) but until this issue is resolved if you plan on doing any gaming on this TV stay away! But if your only concerned with picture and video quality then this TV has one of the best pictures this of any set manufactured this year and displays and overwhelmingly beautiful 4K HDR picture!

Best 4K TV Under $2000

I was determined to find the best 4K UHD TV under $2K. Thanks to BestBuy's patience (I brought home a Vizeo and Samsung before this TV) with me I determined this was by the best available. This TV has the best mixture of color, upscaling and 4K picture. I also like the Googlecast in the TV and quick access to Netflix and Amazon Prime (both services are rapidly expanding their 4K shows available). My only complaint would be the remote. It looks and acts like the one I got 2 years ago with a 1080P Sony TV. Overall, I feel very confident this is the best 4K TV for under $2K

The picture on this tv is great. Yeah colors are vivid and the upscaling is great. The HDR is well worth the price and looks amazing when streaming HDR material. The cons for the tv is that it suffers from light bleed like most LCDs. It also took me some time to adjust the picture to what I want. Overall it's a great tv with some minor issues.

I purchased this tv based on professional & personal reviews. And I know reviews are subjective. I will say for my own personal viewing this TV is fantastic. The colors are vibrant and the picture was crystal clear. This panel handles motion very well and it's upscaling capabilities are top notch. Many people are concerned with the input lag for gaming and that was not a concern for me as I am not a gamer anymore but I do understand their concerns. For the price I paid and the features this panel has, I am pleased with my purchase. My advice is go take a look at it. I think Sony has made it back to the big leagues with their new crop of panels. Well done Sony!!

This is an excellent television. If you have access to 4k programming, the picture is phenomenal. It also does a good job of upscaling other signals. If it had better speakers, I would have said 5 stars. You will need a soundbar or surround package.
