This is the second 60"+ Sony TV I have owned. After 14 years, we finally decided it was time to replace our Grand WEGA 60" rear projection with something a bit cleaner for the game room and I can truly say this TV is amazing! It has so many features that you would expect with current 4K smart TVs. The only plug it needs is the power cord since it's wireless and works great with the built-in DIRECTV. I look forward to many hours of binge watching Netflix and letting my kids on it occasionally for some Xbox time. Great product!

The picture quality for LED continues to improve with each model year. This one surpasses plasma and expectations. The color and response is amazing for its size. I have a 70 inch 850B in the game room and this one is much better though the older one is good. The most noticeable improvement is for sports and movement tracking for basketballs, footballs and baseballs. I also have watched some 4K programming and the color is stunning.

This was my first 4K TV, the experience has been very pleasant. Image is so clear and has really good viewing angles. Images do not fade. The smart aspect of this TV has made watching television so easy. It runs Android so all the apps you love on your phone is mostly available on this tv. The remote features a rubber face and sealed buttons. This makes it very easy to clean off or dry when kids get ahold of it. The only major negative I have about this TV is the price. With as popular as 4K tvs are and the competition prices lower this one should have been a little lower.

Great image quality and detail, particularly with sports and background scenery. Scenes or pictures with great detail are clear and crisp, such as looking at the football or baseball field or the greens when watching a golf. With this TV, colors are vivid. Streaming is good, too, but sometimes the picture breaks up momentarily, which could be due to bandwidth being used concurrently by other devices in the house.

Very good picture and excellent color. Sound is OK, but could be better. Need to turn sound up to the 20s level to hear all of the dialogue during a show. TV is sleek and looks very good as a wall-mount.

Sony makes a great TV and this XBR-850 is among the best for picture quality, rich color and clear motion. The picture quality and clarity of 4K content is incredible. I particularly appreciate how easy it was to set up and color tones right from the box. The wide range of available preprogrammed color-tuning options is sure to provide the best viewing of any content and/or individual preference. Sony builds high quality, great reliability and outstanding performance into its TV's and at a great value for this 4K HDR.

After reading a handful of reviews for the Sony xbr65850d I was a little hesitant at first after comparing this model against the Samsung I ended up pulling the trigger on the Sony and have no regrets I have Spectrum as my cable provider and my picture and colors are excellent.. it all depends on if your into over color saturation then you might want the Samsung model but if you want a more realistic color then I would recommend the Sony model very happy with my purchase the remote is not the greatest but I didn't purchase the tv for the remote and the speakers are horrible but if your purchasing a 4k tv your either buying a sound bar or a surround system.... bottom line it's a good buy!!!

Overall I will say this TV is great.
Picture 9/10
Sound 7/10
Smart TV 4/10
4k 10/10
Everything is near perfect with the exception of the sound and the built in Google cast.
The sound is definitely not a deal breaker just doesn't get loud enough in my opinion.
The smart TV functionality is just horrible IMO.
Using your smartphone to control apps onto the TV (Netflix,YouTube,Spotify, etc.) Just doesn't work like it's supposed to. It constantly disconnects from your smartphone and most of the time it just won't stream anything you select off your smartphone.
I would recommend buying an external device like a chrome cast which is way better than the one this unit has built in.

I installed the tv without calibration right out of the box. It's not to say I won't do a calibration, but for now I really like the picture. As for the Tvs ability to upscale old material I have been really impressed. Obviously it does 1080p better than 720 but the results are impressive but can be very revealing. Recently watching a bluray episode of Stargate Atlantis I could see the marks of prosthetics in the masks of the creatures which I could never see before. I also pickup on a lot of other artifacts.

Nice TV. Great picture with adjusted settings. Takes a lot of understanding or finding help to turn on the TVs capabilities. I'm good with technology, but dang son. It's a trip. Kinda sad it doesn't walk through that when it is connected, but I digress. It's a nice TV and the picture is able to play my XBOX ONE S and PS4 without lag and my XBOX passes on all 4K tests. Works well with sports feeds and overall I'm satisfied. Think it's deserving of a 4.5. Great TV for $1400. Like it's upscaling ability.

All Is Well

We have had this Sony for almost a month. All is well and I am still working with it trying to understand how it works. We had a Bravia 46 inch and it also worked well for the ten years we had it. Donated it to a well deserving family with complete instructions. The instructions for the old Sony was in a booklet that covered everything. The down side to this new one is the instructions are partly in a manual and on the tv help screen. It seems to me they should have put all the info in one manual just in case one looses power, which does happen in our area. I also have a Sony receiver, STR-DE935. It does not have any HDMI connections but I worked around that with the components on the tv and the receiver. This receiver is quite old but it still does the job.
So far the new tv is doing just fine as far as performance goes. I bolted it to a cabinet for safety reasons.
I do wish there was more component connections. The odd thing so far is the old receiver has a tv component but when I push the tv button on the receiver the new tv does not comply. I have to go through the vcr # 1 to get the tv & the receiver to work and also I have to change the audio on the tv to speakers. If I don't change to speakers the receiver does not go through to the tv. I know this may sound confusing but one has to understand this receiver is quite old. Currently my finances does not allow for a new receiver. For decades I have had Sony's and they all worked. Part of my learning curve is to figure out how to do the brightness, color, light sensor, contrast, gamma, black level, advanced contrast enhancer, color temp, sharpness, motion flow, and anything else, when I find where it is on the HELP section on the tv. That's why I wish they would have put it in the instruction manual. So I still give this Sony a five star rating. I purchased this at Best Buy and a lady by the name of Taylor was a great help. The delivery folks arrived on time and all went well. Thanks to all of those folks.

Bought a Sony 850D 65", didn't like it in a dark room. Took it back and bought the Sony 930D 65". Absolutely love it. Color is great in any lighting. The colors and blacks just pop. First opened the box, the frame was warped a little on one end. Set it up, it didn't seem to effect the picture. Let it play all night and looked at it in the morning and the warp in it was almost gone. No problems with picture or color. Very satisfied. For the extra money I would go with the 930D. You won't regret it.

Great picture quality. Great sound through the soundbar, but the soundbar takes up an HDMI slot. Comes with so many Smart options I could not begin to use them all. Works brilliantly with Googlecast. Easy to set up...
I had GeekSquad install it and they were top-notch, plus super inexpensive considering what they did--running wires through walls, mounting and setting up the TV and attached devices, remote programming. I did re-set it up after they left because I decided to change the HDMI device order.

I was originally going to buy a Samsung that was the same size but less expensive. After talking with someone who works in electronics (and no vested interest... not selling me anything), they suggested I look at this tv as the best value in the long run. I couldn't be happier with the picture quality, ease of use, etc.
The only shortcoming is the volume is lacking. That is common with most flat screens because of limited space for speakers. I added a Samsung sound bar and problem solved.

We have a home theater room with a high end projector so this tv sits in our family room. Narrowed my TV purchase to the 65" Samsung ks8000 or thie Sony 65" 850D model. I liked the picture on both sets the Sony seemed more like life with their colors vs the Samsung which seemed vivid but artificial.
Another reason I went with the Sony over the Samsung is I like the stand better. Both the style (wide middle) vs chrome feet at each end and the ability to hold the tv solidly.
Others reviewers mention they don't like the remote. I personally like it very much it feels very solid and made of high quality materials and buttons compared to all other remotes I've had. The remote does take some getting used to and after a week it is dialed in where I don't have look at it so much. Also the remote's microphone to surf Youtube works GREAT this feature saves me from having to type in a search on the remote and the voice recognition it extremely accurate.
After several weeks of holiday use everyone in our family is pretty happy with the Sony 850d and the picture quality. If this was not the case we would have taken it back to Best Buy to exchange for the Samsung.
How long this Tv lasts will be the main factor of shaping my opinion of this tv however. We have a Sharp Aquos that never gave us any problems for about 8 years running.

We decided to upgrade our living room TV. There are a lot of choices for brands, screen sizes and we were trying to figure out if the 4K was worth it. It was. The details are incredible. Feels like being in the movie theater especially with our Bose surround. And nowadays these TV's are like machines! Gone are the days of a just plugging in a power cord! That's where the Geek Squad installers made everything easy and they help you get the most out of the product.
