WiFi disconnects two or three times a week. Remote control went out after 1 year. Even when hard wired into router, it took several minutes to get ready.
The 3-D component was good for the first 5 movies, then was always blurry afterwards.
I’ve reset the tv 3 times in 4 years. Done all the updates and still problems.

Sony 65 inch XBR X930D 4K HDR Tv – Great picture

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.
After a month using the Sony XBR X930D 4K HDR Tv I am quite happy with it overall.
PROS:
PICTURE QUALITY: Sony color accuracy is excellent. I believe it is one of Sony’s strongest areas of expertise because of their history making digital camera chips and film production. That is one reason why I chose Sony over Samsung. LG OLED Tvs may be better, but they cost more than twice as much. I set the Sony to “cinema” display under Settings, which makes most content look less like videotape and more filmic and a bit warmer overall. But very accurate.
The upscaling of 1080p HD content to the Sony 4K monitor – whether streaming from Netflix or YouTube over the internet, or HBO via cable is very good. In fact, actual 4K content, while being noticeably sharper and clearer I don’t really miss much when viewing movies with well balanced color content. The only negative I’ve noticed is that some content sources may be a bit unbalanced – so the consistency is not always good in a few cases. For example, a recent episode of Penny Dreadful on Showtime was shot around a campfire, and the flickering of the background which was meant to emulate campfire lighting – looked muddled and struggled to maintain a consistent image resolution. In other words, backgrounds went soft – but only during those scenes. In addition, while watching an old rerun episode of Dexter also on Showtime, a night scene had lips and eyes oddly blue. The rest of the scenes were fine. I believe these two instances are because the source content was out of balance, because I haven’t seen this in any other cases.
Sony gives four 4K HDR movies as a bonus offer via their app when you register with the Sony Pictures Ultra website. No rentals, just purchases, so I now own them. At $30 each that’s $120 worth of free 4K content.
I watched 4K content streaming via the YouTube app of the Hubble telescope and nature videos shot in 4K HDR. They offered astonishingly beautiful perfectly balanced color and clarity. In those examples, 4K HDR makes a huge difference.
The design of the stand and bezel is slim with a very small foot-print for a 65 inch monitor.
Two weeks after buying the Sony X930D the price dropped $300, because of the Best Buy Memorial Day sale. The store credited me the difference with no problem.
CONS:
SOUND: The Sony X930D speakers are very poor, which is the case for many of the new ultra thin Tvs. This is why the monitor can be so thin. I bought a Zvox model 770 sound-bar, that the Tv stands on. Offers a simple digital optical connection and saves real estate. Sony has new low profile sound bars with wireless sub-woofers made to sit in front of the X930D and not block the screen, but they were not available to purchase yet when I bought this a month ago. I am very happy with the Zvox sound-base, recommend it, and will review it separately.
I watched a 4K Sony Pictures film via their Ultra app, Spiderman 2. The image looked great, but there was annoying sound drop-outs every few minutes. I haven’t heard this from any other content source – streaming or cable, so I think it is the Sony Pictures source that is flawed. In addition, when viewing Sony Pictures movie trailers via their app they are badly low resolution for the first 15 seconds before the 4K resolution kicks in. This is the only content source I have seen this. So again, I believe it is a Sony Pictures specific website flaw. I have 59 Mbps download speed, so connection speed is not the issue. I intend to contact them and inquire.
REMOTE CONTROL: The Sony remote control does not have back-lit buttons. This is a bit inconvenient in a dark room.
SOFTWARE: The new Sony’s all come with Android Tv OS built in. It works fine. You can find most apps and navigate around okay. However, I happen to also use the new Apple Tv (4th generation) with my bedroom Tv and can attest that Apple’s navigation is far more simple, easier and faster to find and organize apps. However, Android Tv being built-into the Sony remote is convenient in that Google Play and Netlix buttons are front and center, though you have to navigate through a lot of layers to find anything else you are looking for. One could attach an Apple Tv to the Sony of course, but it gets a bit redundant.
DESIGN: The new pedestal stand and thin bezel are nice looking, in my opinion. The back offers a cable management system, ostensibly to help minimize spaghetti behind the Tv. However, the removable back covers didn’t close easily when more than one or two cables were attached. It is a design flaw depending on the number of cables you have attached.
SUMMARY: I really like the Sony X930D because the picture looks great, whether in 4K or upscaled. And the Android Tv navigation software, though a bit complicated, works.

I love Sony products, and have bought all 940D, 930D and 850D for my 3 rooms in 75, 65 and 55 size respectively.
740D is an exceptional product and I love everything about it. 850 also shows great picture considering it is the least expensive of the 3 I bought.
930D which is a middle tier TV between the least expensive 850D and 940D, I had great hopes with this tv. However, the blacks are really unimpressive, and the first set I got bleeded so bad that I literally had to return the TV . Bestbuy as always provided the exceptional customer service and delivered a new 930D to our place. I am not satisfied with this one either. I do not know if this is a bad TV in general or I got unlucky with the piece I got. The blacks bleed a lot. I am out of the 45 days return period (for elite plus members) and I would request bestbuy to take it forward to the Sony reps and help me come up with some solution.

Worthy replacement for my plasma TV

I bought my 60" 8000 series Samsung plasma 4 years ago from Magnolia, after an appropriate break-in time I had it professionally calibrated, also through Magnolia. I have given my son the TV recently putting me in the market for a 4K HDTV. In the days when color CRT were the standard, Sony was the only TV for me, they had, to my eyes, the most natural colors. I'm happy to say that Sony is again supplying stores with a compliment of fine TVs. I initially bought the XRB65X850D, beautiful color but I couldn't get used to the grey blacks, especially after my plasma TV. In less than a week I was back in Magnolia buying the XBR65X930D. I wasn't prepared for the difference in performance between the two Sony's....you really need to see a TV in your own environment to see what it can do, at the store both TVs seemed to have the same performance, but the quality of the blacks and shadow detail was superb on the 930D, it has a much more effective back-lighting system. The picture quality of non 4K source material is superior on 930D, too. The color in the Cinema Pro picture mode was excellent out of the box, especially after turning off all enhancement options. I couldn't be happier, and I'm a tough TV customer to satisfy. I look forward to having this set calibrated in a couple of months.
If you want to see immediately what your new 4K TV can do, go to the home menu and bring up the YouTube app. Go to search, this will activate the mike in the TV remote control...say: "4K videos"...this will bring up an endless supply of 4K demo material to awe you and your friends!

I purchased this television about a month ago and it has exceeded my expectations at every turn. The x930D has a sleek and elegant design with a thin build and very small borders around the picture which looks great. The picture quality has really blown me away even on lower quality video. Everything I have watched on this tv including Netflix, DVDs, and Blu-rays has looked great. Movies and sports on this display have really impressed me with the accurate colors as well as the motion handling on this tv. The Android Tv system that is in the Sony 4ks is easy to use and is easy to customize without using any external streaming devices although the built in chrome cast is an added bonus. Overall I am very pleased with this purchase and I would highly recommend it to anyone looking to upgrade their viewing experience.

The overall picture quality is stunning! Reducing the color saturation about 20% resulted in the best color balance.
Although a bit pricey, I feel this is a great value when compared with OLED TVs costing considerable more.
The remote could be improved by backlighting the keys.
Highly recommended!

I appreciate Sony's X930D TV design effort but not the manufacturing quality control, or maybe due to the shipping & handling issues. The TV quality is not consistent depending on how lucky you get and how picky you are with the picture quality. I have my fourth 65-inch unit which I decided to keep after exchanging three times from BB. Previous three all have the white clouds and uneven dirty area issues. Although the picture uniformity (in solid color scene) and white clouds (in completely dark scene) of my current one is still not perfect, you won't notice them when watching movies or regular TV programs. The sharpness, motion details, natural colors (not the other S brand over vivid color especially the light green), blackness when TV in control, up-scaling quality, brightness/contrast, android voice search, aesthetic TV set design, and the recent price drop still keep me coming back and finally settle down with this one.

So, there are many reviews out there that talk about the 65 in 930d Sony TVs coming with a warped screen. Ironically, the one in the BB showroom was warped. However, the picture was good. I found it to be better than the KS9000 from Samsung, but that's more of a personal preference in my opinion. For the record, I own a 55 in Samsung KS8000. I found the blacks to be better with higher contrast on the Sony.
Anyway, I bought the Sony 930d and sure enough.... the screen was warped out of the box. I personally believe that the Geek Squad guy warped it when he carried it in. The TV is incredibly thin, and he carried it in the house by himself. Anyway, that unit had a problem with flickering on the right third of the screen. I called BB and had them replace it. Everything is working perfectly and the picture is fantastic. I would recommend it to anyone; however, I would warn you to look out for the slight warping of the screen out of the box. Simply look straight down the top side of the TV to see it. I would also tell you to follow the directions for handling the TV in the box that are clearly printed on the outside of the box....

Very nice design, slim, with a strong sturdy base. Spent a few hours looking into settings and trying them out. Found my favorite but isn't best for movie watching in a dark room which seems to be a little difficult setting up. Android on here is familiar but with the speed of a cheap tablet....quite slow and laggy at times. Not the fastest to load up upon starting. Remote gets a little taking used to. Movie quality is up near the top, TV is better than average but I expected better honestly. Many times you'll see why people suggest Full-array instead of edge-lit displays. I might end up having to get the calibration service done for this, a TV of this stature deserves some attention to get it just right.
Usage of the TV is great.
OS and setting up i.e. switching between screens and changing settings is actually a bit of a pian.

We bought this tv in Feb it is now Nov. We haven't had one issue. The picture is amazing. You really notice a different when you go to a friends house or even a bar. You don't feel the same way about tv anymore you know what quality is. It is a little pricey being over 2k for a tv. We were happy to see the for even black friday the tv hadn't gone down that much in price since february.

I wasn't really a TV guy before I bought this. I honestly don't know what possessed me to buy it in the first place. The picture is awesome and the user friendliness is great. Sometimes, but not often, it turns off by itself and reboots. I've noticed sometimes in dark scenes, especially when the light level of what's playing is changing a lot, the dark scenes will adjust mid scene. It's hard to explain but it's clearly not right. Also, I notice when the picture should be nearly black there's 4 cloudy areas, one in each corner of the screen. None of these issues are really all that distracting other than the random reboot and that is really rare. For the price though, it kind of seems like it should come with some kind of special services ;) and be perfect in every way.

With recent price drops placing this 930d 65" under 2 grand it's easily the best value. But videophiles should taken note: this is one seriously tricked out tv that delivers the goods and then some. PQ is stunning. And bright. Our room gets full sun and even with shades prior tv suffered. Not this one. Blacks are darn near total black and motion blur non existent truly. Don't hesitate. Remote among the best. Setup can get as intense as you want it to be. If you don't know what you are doing consider pro to dial it in. But even out of the box this was showing superbly.

I spent weeks researching what my next TV should be. Then I got to the store and spent hours going back and forth trying to pick the right one... this TV IS the right one.
4K Beautiful
3D Incredible
The blacks are just that
The colors are so clear
The SMART features are all you'll need in your living room
A bit on the high price side... but if you're a high end TV person, this is the one to get.

The TV Steal of the Century

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.
Let me start by saying that this TV was a Geek Squad warranty replacement for a defective XBR70X850B. I must say upfront that I have always been a Sony fan, so when given the choice for a replacement, I opted to go with a Sony again. I was a little bit surprised at how the warranty actually worked in execution, but that is another story. It worked out for me, but it might not for others. I would just recommend reading the fine print very carefully before you buy.
This TV’s picture is quite spectacular. My 850B had a few things that I put up with because the picture looked so great. Fast-moving action sports would jitter and blur, but I get none of that with the 930D. The 930D’s ability to handle football, basketball and auto racing without the slightest hiccup makes me very happy.
The Sony 4K up-conversion algorithms are also very well known, so I am not going to bore you with a review of that. This TV does a phenomenal job of image processing without introducing delays or requiring any audio synching. I can say ‘Job well done, Sony’.
The color reproduction on this set is fantastic. The difference between my old 850B and the 930D is like the difference between night and day. I always thought that my old set’s picture quality was great, but this takes color to a whole new level. I really can’t describe to you the depth of color in this set. The other thing I was a not expecting is the incredible contrast between bright whites and ink-like blacks. The screen really differentiates between blacks and other colors, and the result is VERY noticeable. The blacks on the 930D are in a completely different league than the older 850B. I thought the old set was pretty good, but I was wrong. This set is truly awesome. I also purchased a Samsung Ultra 4K Blu-ray player (also reviewed on the Best Buy website) and the HDR color just blows me away. I have not attempted to test it for color gamut. Others have done this and you can check their results if you like. I will just tell you that this set reproduces color like no other I have seen. You really have to see this TV in person to appreciate it.
When I bought the 850B I couldn’t have cared less about 3D. But after owning it and watching a few movies in 3D, I decided that I really wanted it in my replacement set. That narrowed my choices drastically, but fortunately the 930D includes it and that also makes me very happy. The 3D quality seems very, very good to me. I know that others have complained about 3D artifacts, but my set doesn’t exhibit any. My set received a firmware update immediately on day 1, so that may be part of it. I could have lived without 3D if I had to, but I am glad I don’t. It may be a little gimmicky, but I really think watching the occasional 3D movie is pretty cool. If you have never watched a 3D movie on a television, the experience is MUCH different than in the theater. You really should give it a try.
What the whole thing boils down to is if I had to do it all over again, would I buy this set again? Absolutely I would. The picture quality and image reproduction is on par with some of the best I have ever seen, and for what seems like a bargain price. If you want a genuinely great TV – go buy this one. You will not be disappointed.

Great picture, best LED that's not an OLED TV. Originally we purchased an LG LED tv and we returned t almost immediately. This SONY blows the LG out of the water, granted its a higher price point. Great 4K picture. Only complaints are the lack of in the box 3D glasses, especially at the price point and the remote isn't as nice as the LG one.

Can't afford LG OLED? This is the closest you'll get to the quality of OLED. Picture quality and color is just phenomenal. HDR makes this set really stand out. Light bleeding issues are minimal with the Slim Backlight Drive. Are the light bleeds non- existent? No. It is a LED screen but the best quality for the cost and brand.
The cons:: Extremely delicate TV. Our first set was bent and had ghosting issues due to the bend. It was replaced with a perfect no bend- no ghosting 4k TV--the quality that is expected with Sony.
If you manage to get your hands on a perfect set with no bends and no ghosting, you've got yourself an outstanding 5 star Sony product.

TV/Wall-Mount does not work!!!
Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.
Dear Sony/Best Buy,
I finally decided to do a significant upgrade for our family room. After a grueling amount of research I decided to to purchase the 65x930D given its excellent reviews, slim profile and beautiful picture. We also purchased the recommended slim wall mount (showcased at the Best Buy showroom), a sound bar (which is not important for this thread) and professional installation. We spent around 5K for such setup.
Today, the installation guys showed up and after a while realized that something was not correct. They hesitated and explained that the TV+Wall mount do not really work as shown at the showroom and also advertised on Sony's website. Let me explain:
The advertisement found in Sony's website explicitly state that the TV "hangs flat on the wall" and shows a TV mounted on the wall WITHOUT any cables hanging/showing.
The showroom display at Best Buy also showcases the wall mount to be specially engineered for this specific TV and shows the TV hung with this wall mount and hiding all cable.
It is simply impossible to flush mount the TV (as ) due to the following: The TV comes with a gigantic power brick. This system uses a proprietary cable connecting the TV to the brick which CANNOT be run in-wall (there is a sticker on the cable that states this!!!) which forces you to somehow hide the brick behind the TV. Just to be clear, hiding the brick behind the TV is not an option due to its size.
The cable management system seems to be only designed for when the TV is on stand. Running any cable, regardless of size (HDMI, network, optical, etc,) will always push the cable to be sent downwards.
In conclusion and to the point, I think this is false advertising. I am attaching the video that shows a setup that is simply not possible.
I demand a response from Sony. I also know of other disappointed and frustrated consumers.
Thank you,

Bought the Sony after much review surfing and in-store comparison. WOW what a picture. DVD Movies and live NFL football can have a 3D appearance to the image, a sense of front to back depth not noticed in the other brands we have in the house. Factory settings provided very black blacks and vivid color without being oversaturated. The upscaling also seems to improve the clarity of the image. Very satisfied with the TV!
