    Brightness no problem for A80L

All pics provided back up this review.  The foremost item I will address regarding the A80L is brightness.  After watching tons of video reviews I had concerns about brightness overall for OLED, and specifically for this TV which measures lower than similarly priced offerings from LG (C3) and Samsung (S90C).  Let me put any concerns to rest.  Do not shy away due to fears over brightness.  We have the A80L in our open floorplan main living area with 14 windows.  There is a large picture window directly across from the tv.  In the afternoon when there are no clouds and sunlight is coming through the A80L is fully visible, with very good glare control.  We watch the A80 in standard mode.  Vivid is simply too bright, even in full sunlight.  At night with several lights on we use the cinema mode, which is less bright than standard, and it provides more than adequate brightness.  Now on to the rest.  I compared the A80L directly against the Samsung S90C.  I actually had both TVs side by side for over a week, and watched a ton of content from multiple sources.  Other than outright brightness the Samsung is no match for the Sony.  In particular the motion and upscaling from YouTube TV and low quality sources is much better on the A80L.  Also the accuracy and detail in HDR and Dolby Vision is better on the Sony.  Details in the background and around secondary parts of the scene retain detail with the Sony that we couldn't get the Samsung to reproduce, regardless of settings.  The Sony's XR Clear processing is for real.  Setting all of the automated brightness, motion, and clarity to low produces a crystal clear picture regardless of source material.  With the Samsung we were constantly messing with settings, attempting to get the precision to match the Sony.  One final thing that stands out with the XR Clear is the natural skin tones and pure whites.  The Samsung had a reddish hue to skin tones that would only dissappear in its least bright modes, making it nearly unwatchable in a bright room.  The remote, menu/UI, and build were really subjective.  I feel both TVs were fine on those fronts.  An item I can't comment on is gaming.  We don't game.  The S90C boasts additional 2.1 HDMI ports and a more expansive gaming menu, so it may be a better choice for gamers.  I also won't comment on sound as we use a soundbar instead of the TV’s built in speakers.  Hope this helps someone make a choice on the A80L.

I’ve had a LG C1 for a few years and I was dead set on a LG G3. I decided to go to my local BB with a buddy and we looked at TVs for about 2hours. LG, Samsung and Sony specifically. We determined that the LGs had the most contrast but to a detriment to the picture quality. Details, like eyes, get lost in low light scenes. Samsungs LEDs we’re amazing but I knew I wanted an OLED. My buddy got a QN90B because he games more than me. Now, for the Sony’s. There was an A90J 83’ and A80L 77’ side by side. The A90J had a touch better image quality but was $2k more, and it wasn’t that much better. The A80L had the best image quality compared to the LGs and Samsungs. The XR processor really makes a difference. I’ve had the TV for two weeks now and am loving it. My wife (who generally could care less) and some friends have commented how incredible the picture quality is. Admittedly, I have been driving myself crazy calibrating the set because there are SO many settings, but every time I make a change, it doesn’t make too much of a difference. Highly recommend. I have a Sonos Arc, so I don’t know what the set’s sound is like!

I absolutely love this TV. The A80 is definitely worth the price and compares exponentially to its a95 counterpart. For the price this OLED is a steal. The brightness is more than enough even with sun shining through windows in the living room. The colors pop, and navigating between apps is simple and user friendly. I hope this helps anyone!

This is my Third Sony Bravia for my home in a year. The color is fantastic and the sound is impeccable with the addition of my Sonos Sound bar. The geek squad did an amazing job connecting the tv, Answering my questions, providing tutorials and I love the quality. I’ve had no concerns to date and the TV will be the only purchase I make going forward. With my Total Tech membership I saved on installation and if I have concerns, the Geek Squad is a call away. I will add that the picture quality is superior at night when viewing dark scenes versus the day time viewing. I recently watched Batman and must say the nighttime viewing was far more impressive at night. All in all, I’m thoroughly satisfied. And Glad I snapped it up on Black Friday!

I've had this TV for 3 months and it has done everything the sales associate said it would do. I've owned many TVs in the last 35 years, mostly Samsung. I'm in the printing industry and I'm picky about flesh tones, green grass, and blue skies, while at the same time not losing contrast in highlight and black areas. Relying on the preset color balance was difficult, and I tried to perfect it, but I went back to the preset limits. This TV is really plug and play. The screen looked the best in comparison at the store, and although my room can get bright with light coming from the kitchen into the family room, this TV looks great all day into the night. I also like the google TV function, eliminating my Roku device. Although I use a 7.1 surround system, and have no use for the internal speakers, when my family goes to bed, the TV connects to my wireless headphones instantly and shuts off easily. I honestly dont have any complaints other than it was more expensive than the Samsung and LG competing models, but I would rather pay a little more for something that I like a lot more. Plus it looks great on the wall and it isn't too large for the room.

We've had the TV for about a month and it's absolutely amazing. We only only our 2nd TV after 17 years with a Sony Bravía XBR. We decided to stick with Sony and we are not disappointed. Sharp, clear, amazing contrast. Don't hesitate to buy this TV if you see a special or dip in the original pricing. We purchased it at 2999. It's dipped a bit since then. Sit back and enjoy.

It's a good OLED, but I'd be lying if i said that this display was better than the older LG 65" OLED65C7P that it replaced. The 65 looks so small in comparison. I do however recommend to those looking to enter OLED at a reasonable price. Everyone kept telling me that the image processor was way better but i haven't seen that proven yet. I do like the use TV as center channel feature. The TV sound quality is indeed better than the LG, but the LG had a better picture in my opinion. I had to disable motion flow. It actually blurred the image pretty bad. It's also much heavier than it looks. This is a 2 person move situation. The stand is very sturdy. I do not worry about it tipping over at all.

This is the best TV I've ever owned and it was well worth the purchase. I was replacing a 65" Samsung QLED TV. I also have a 65" LG OLED. The Sony TV beats the Samsung and LG in every way. The picture quality is fantastic and the operating system is very easy to use and runs incredibly smoothly with no lag at all (the Samsung OS started to lag a bit after it was about a year old.) Gaming on this display is incredible. When I loaded up Forza Motorsport on the Xbox Series X, I felt like I was playing on a brand new console vs. the Samsung TV I had previously. I could see details in the graphics that I never knew were there before. The frame rate for gaming was also outstanding. I highly recommend this TV for anyone looking for the best picture for gaming, sports, and movies.

I’ve been wanting to get a new and bigger TV for quite some time and since OLED is the new technology to strive for these days, I decided to pursue a 77”-83” OLED. I was torn between getting the LG C3 and this TV and after talking to some employees and doing some of my own independent research, I decided to pony up the extra dollars for the Sony A80L. So after having used it for exactly 1 month now, I would say I am overall satisfied with the purchase. The TV glitched and froze on me maybe once or twice, forcing me to restart the TV by holding the power button. Other than that, the TV is great. Picture quality is top notch and the Google TV OS is easy to use and navigate. Integrates seamlessly with the Google suite of apps. The matte remote feels sturdy and good in the hand too.
