I am going from the 4K Epson 6050 to this Z9J.. as well as owning the Sony X900H for the bedroom. Compared to last years models, the new XR processer adds a very beautiful uptic in quality. This TV paired with the Panasonic UB9000 with its HDR optimizer, its the most stunning image I have ever seen before. Popped in Sam Raimis Spiderman 2 on 4K and it felt like a brand new experience. Before I hooked up the surround sound system to the TV, I first tested the TVs built in speakers and I've gotta say its some of the best sound quality I've heard from TV speakers. The bottom frame of the TV is slighter larger than most and if you look closer you'll notice its due to basically a sound bar being built in... its got lows and high speakers built in which is insanely impressive. It also has binding posts on the back where you can actually use the TVs speakers as a center speaker with a AV Receiver. Highly recommend this TV!

I hope the return and exchange turns out better for me. I replaced my CX 77 oled with the z9j, at the moment i regret the decision. I am receiving the replacement today. I am posting a picture of the issue, I do not know gow this issue can affect the overall performance of the tv.

Very deep black close to oled levels and it’s very very bright close to 4000 nits you’ll need sunglasses. Comes out of the box ready for viewing because the color is so accurate you really don’t need to adjust it too much. That XR processor is the best in the industry IMO. Google tv is very smooth and fast. The only problem with this tv for me is that this 10000 dollar 8k tv does not play 8k videos from YouTube or from a usb stick. Sony has no real answer if this tv will ever be able to play 8k videos from YouTube. If that doesn't bother you buy this tv because you’ll be getting the best tech that the tv industry has to offer but for me I’m going to return it for the 83” a90j

The brightness of the set has also increased as well making the set enjoyable in bright rooms where an OLED just wouldn’t keep up. Color saturation is also better and with less bleeding. Please note that HDMI 3 in the only eARC input and is limited to 4K signals. The set then upconverts and processes them to 8K. HDMI 4 is the only input that actually accepts native 8K but is NOT eARC I find myself rewatching my favorite 4K UHD discs and being excited all over again because of the awesome picture! The set also has speaker posts on the back if you want to use the tv speakers as a center channel. I did not test this as my audio is already a 5.2.4 system and has a high quality center speaker.

After using the TV for a few weeks now, it is safe to say I made the perfect choice for my daily use. The brightness of this TV and overall picture quality are superb. It’s soo bright that at night I lower it to 0. It truly is an experience to behold. Not to mention the size! I have tested most content (SDR/HDR/Dolby Vision&Atmos/Series X/PS5) and all perform exceptionally well. Dolby vision and HDR content looks clean and responsive.. at times I feel it gets too dark, which I didn’t expect from this TV, but is still a pleasant change considering how bright it always is. Gaming is great, although there is no G&FreeSync (VRR supposedly arriving Dec). I tried both 120fps and Dolby Vision 60fps on Xbox and I honestly prefer Dolby on a game such as Gears and 120 for a fast paced game like call of duty. Another downside is that you can’t have both and you will need to change between the two depending on the type of game you are playing. PS5 is strictly set at 120fps as Dolby Vision is not a current functionality. Still great to experience ps5 games that allow 120fps on this tv. My wife was blown away at how good Ratchet & Clank:Rift Apart looks. Audio is pretty good, but I use a 5.1 Sonos set up (Arc, 2 sides, sub), so I haven’t experimented much with the TVs audio. Google interface is easy to use and responsive allowing easy access to all your apps. The TVs settings menu is straight forward and has info on what each setting does. The remote control is one of the best I’ve used on a tv and the backlight is great when watching at night. The design is a little bulky, but not surprising. 2-3in too bulky in my opinion. The back of the panel is sleek and has panels designed to hide all wiring, which allows for a light strip to be attached (Phillips Hue Gradient highly recommended). All and all the Z9J is hands down the best TV I have ever owned. Future proofed with 8K functionality.

Awesome 8k TV, upgrade from Sony Z9D

Very little blooming almost unnoticeable to be honest. Awesome size even coming from a 75 inch TV. Got the new cognitive processor which I'm sure is even better now since this TV was a 2021 model release. So impressed with the processing that I'm looking to upgrade my bedroom TV now which is another Z9D. You can never make a mistake in buying a Sony especially a Z series.

Have to hard reboot the TV EVERT TIME I power on just so it doesn't disconnect the network connection and so the apps connect. Sometimes a hard reboot us required during streaming. And yes, I have a solid unlimited gigabit fiber network and the TV is also hard wired using an ethernet cable. Very sluggish response to remote control commands and batteries don't last a month. Up-conversion of any 4k content streamed from the TVs OS is nothing close to 8k. I see no difference at all with up-conversion. YouTube 8k recorded content is great - but no other 8k contact is available yet. And, this not a bad unit - I also purchased the 75=inch Z9J model and it has all of the same issues as the 85Z9J. I could live with lacking up-conversion - but the chronic operating system / network problems are unacceptable. What happened SONY ? Is this all Google or hardware / software incompatibility ??? Truly unacceptable considering the price

To make sure your TV runs as smooth as possible, please ensure your TV has the latest firmware installed by going to Help > System Software Update > Software Update. Also, with [BRAVIA notifications] in Quick Settings, you can check if there are notifications such as software updates and low battery levels in the remote control.
Whatever the content or source, you'll enjoy entertainment close to 8K resolution with XR 8K Upscaling. For optimum performance, use an Ultra High Speed HDMI™ Cable that supports 48 Gbps. To display a picture from a device connected to the HDMI input terminal in a higher quality HDMI format, set [HDMI signal format] in [External inputs].

This TV is worth every penny I spent! Excellent performance, picture, upscaling. I installed my home theatre myself so it took months to understand all the settings I needed to set up. I also had to download and print the manual- for the money it would be nice if they would send one with the TV.

Be sure to consider the following if the remote control does not operate properly:
• Point the remote control at the remote control sensor located at the front of the TV.
• Keep the remote control sensor area clear from obstacles.
• Fluorescent light can interfere with remote control operation; try turning off any fluorescent light.
• Check that the orientation of each battery matches the positive (+) and negative (-) symbols in the battery compartment.

Not as good as 65" sony Bravia, but bigger

If this happens, please try one of the following methods to resolve this issue:
• To make sure your TV runs as smooth as possible, we highly recommend downloading and installing the latest software for the TV. For instructions, refer to this link: https://www.sony.com/electronics/support/televisions-projectors-lcd-tvs-android-/xr-85z9j/downloads
• We also recommend doing a soft reset. press and hold the POWER button of the remote control for about 5 seconds until a message Power off appears. TV reboots automatically. Wait for approximately one minute, and the TV will turn back on. Make sure your issue has been resolved.
• Is your HDMI signal format set to Enhanced? If this function is not really needed, we can set this back to Standard Format. This should speed up source switching.
To change the HDMI signal format setting, press the (Quick Settings) button on the remote control, then select [Settings] — [Channels & Inputs] — [External inputs] — [HDMI signal format].
