This my first high end product that I get, and I gotta say everything is good with this tv ive heard that the black levels are bad and theyre certainly not that great with this tv but everything else including viewing angles are pretty good with this tv I don't think youll be dissapointed picture quality is there the upscaling from 1080p content to 4k is there its noticeable the only issue I encountered is some sound synch issue with a sound bar but that has to do with the android os not the tv itself just disconnect it and connect the tv and it will go away the contrast takes a hit on the 75 and 85 inch models its noticeable at times but it helps you see at any angle thanks to that.
The color and brightness are these tv strengths if you are a gamer this a tv for you the input lag is pretty low compared to last years tv.
This tv is very sharp as well

Best Buy and Sony at their BEST. The TV is Super Bright - Great Contrast Ratio - A Whopper of an 85 inch TV. I have it hooked up to an old, 2013 model, 2.1 Vizio non Bluetooth, non HDMI, 2.1 bar with connected sub-woofer. Sound and Base is great for normal family room listening. Everything is set to factory default except I turned the eco modes off,
I also turned the Android TV Core Services to Disabled, as advised by Rtings.com. It avoids ads and suggestion bar on top at the home screen. I do not need any intrusion or suggestion. I know what to watch. Go the review of this XBR85X950G on Rtings.com and look under Ads to read about this. Look under Sony after you hit click “here” under the Ads part of this model review there.
I had no problem NOT agreeing to google agreement for sign in and data collection at the initial setup, just don’t mark any of the agree boxes and just hit next. Do Not consent to installing SAMBA services, it will slow down your TV and more ads will be on the way.
In my Picture setting, Auto Picture Mode is Off, Light Sensor Off, under Advanced Settings, adv. contrast enhancer is set to High and Auto Local Dimming is set to Medium.
Under Audio, Audio System Prioritization is ON, Sound Mode Sync is ON, A/V sync is set to AUTO and eARC mode is OFF, for what it’s worth.
Android sucks as an OS but there are options like Roku, Apple TV, or Amazon Fire Stick etc., if you so desire. In android, you have to to go to the Home Screen from whatever you are watching to change to another app if needed. Samsung and LG’s Tizen OS works much better and faster.
The TV key on the remote is assignable to any input, so that helps. BT remote at initial setup recognized the FIOS box, controls it fine. Remote itself gives a lousy cheap feel and sometimes some of the number buttons take more than one press. Simply put, the remote is not a good one. The TV itself is great, though.
My sound system is non eARC, Non CEC, 2013 model, a simple Vizio 2.1 sound bar with wireless connected Sub Woofer so I have had no sound problems some mentioned with HDMI/eARC/CEC devices combination of equipment,
Even so, I did notice some stuttering, sound/video sync off, and lag or no sound at all (all during the Netflix pausing, rewinding, fast forwarding and then resuming), out of the box, but have had no problem with the sound cutting or not in sync or stuttering on Netflix after the initial PIE update from Sony.
I am not going to install the latest Post Pie Sony update as sometimes updates cause more issues than they resolve unless you have a specific need for it. I have nothing connected to the TV that is secure data so security is not a concern for me.
All other Apps work fine with my particular unit. I turned the inputs to 4K enhanced as advised by Rtings.com. If you have NEST door bell, there is an app for that in this TV as well so you can see who is at the door while watching this TV.
Sony’s VA panel is great. Much, much better than IPS. I noticed No Contrast loss because of the X-Wide viewing technology in the 85 (or 75 inch) model. Contrast and Brightness is wonderful. My family room is a very big, brightly lit, with lots of windows, 24 feet high ceiling room, and I have had no noticeable issue with reflections or other issues being caused by the X-Wide technology on this TV as some have mentioned on various boards. I believe they are being overly critical.
Blacks are blacks and grays are gray on this TV’s VA panel. No blooming at all on my unit. No loss of contrast or degradation within wide viewing angles. In other words PERFECT in my experience. No problem connecting to WiFi. May be my Unit is a perfect one, lol.
Best Buy, Annapolis, MD, phone buying service (due to Covid-19 restrictions) was exemplary. My dealing with the manager, Miss Spring, was wonderful. She is polite, patient, helpful and knowledgeable. Best Buy delivery was perfect. Totally satisfied with Beat Buy. I had some issues with the TV legs and remote and SONY response was nothing short of Exemplary and Perfect. They sent me the required parts right away within 2 days.
3 weeks and still looking for a stand. For now, I have it sitting on 2 side tables, I had it in the floor before, which btw, is not bad at all. It needs a stand, at BARE MINIMUM, 70 inch Wide and 16 inch Deep, but that is with legs corners barely on the bench top. It will work but an extra inch or so at both ends will be better. Good stands for this TV start very high around $500 or more, although Best Buy does have a low height stand for it, around $300 when not on sale, which is very good. DO NOT get a stand more than 24 inch high or you will end up tiring your eyes looking up if you are a binge watcher like I am. Ideal height is 12 to 18 inches in my opinion. Remember this 85 inch TV sits up very high in aspect.
In the end, you simple can’t go wrong wit Best Buy and this Sony XBR85X950G TV. Remember, the reviews and the follow up criticism by the consumers is based upon equipment & software reviewing this TV’s technical specification. It has no bearing on what you actually see, unless your unit is defective, period. Take the criticism with a pinch of salt and enjoy the finest Non OLED TV experience you can buy today. This is a great TV indeed. Kudos for o SONY and Best Buy Annapolis. A totally satisfied paying customer. Go buy one and enjoy.

These screen is an amazing device. It is incredibly well designed and easy to use, we paired with a higher end Sony sound bar and that definitely made it all work great, we wanted a home theatre, and we definately got one, zero regrets. Best Buy made it it even better by delivering it during the pandemic no fuss, no muss, purely professional! (Tip your people with an envelope!) couldn't be happier. We absolutely love its performance and capability - it delivers excellence.

I purchased this TV on an open box deal with best buy.
Listed as Open Box-Satisfactory, it claims that Nonessential parts or accessories may be missing. Key word; Nonessential. To my surprise it didn't have a power cord OR a remote control. Two things I'd consider essential for a tv?
My store was kind enough to give me a power cable "just in case" there wasn't one in the wrapping (it was a display model, so no box). Sure enough, no power cable. Thank goodness for their "just in case". Now the remote? I'd consider that essential. But whatever. Purchased one online for it.
Other than that, it's a beautiful TV. HUGE TV, actually. I'm grateful there's no issues in picture or operation (yet).

I always bought Sam TVs for my home . Reason why not Sony was because of the price range . Even though I knew why Sony is a lil pricey (Better) Then after having problems with The Sams I went out and did lots of research online. I wanted a TV with better quality and features. This Sony had lots of Good reviews on different websites. So I made my decision, and wow best 4K tv I ever owned got it on sale by the way. Great sound when you mess with settings . I do recommend this tv GREAT JOB SONY...

Reflections galore - Where is my Samsung!

Finally moved from a Samsung to a Sony. Fisrt thing I noticed was the kitchen lights that once the bulb was turned on in the ceiling spotlights, each one stretched across the entire screen and was a major distractor from the beautiful images it was producing below the reflections. I try to find the good in things and I can tell you with the lights out behind me, and even with windows open on the sides, the TV was beautiful! Colors were as expected on a Sony TV of this grade. Absolutely amazing TV viewing experience - if it were not for the reflections overtaking the screen.
Waiting for COVID-19 restrictions to pass to return and pick up a Samsung 82" QLED and return this Sony as soon as I can. I have enjoyed its performance, I just cannot live with those reflections.

Hi Sleepy,
Great! We're glad that you're having an excellent time using the TV. Its Acoustic Multi-Audio system adds two sound-positioning tweeters in the rear of the TV to the bass reflex speakers for Sound-from-Picture Reality. With action and sound precisely aligned, your viewing becomes so much more immersive. Thanks for choosing Sony.

Even though I have this same TV in a 55 inch model and works to perfection I was disappointed on the 85 inch model. after mounting it up and ready to watch a movie that night I noticed a tremendous amount of light leakage . I never had this issue with the 55 inch model. I called Sony and they said this was normal. This is your high end model how is this normal? So I'm going to exchange It and hopefully its just a part of a bad batch.

Everything you have read about this tv is correct at least the 5 star ratings. This tv exceeds all expectations it is amazing. The clarity of the picture, the amazing 4k definition I could not ask for a better overall experience. I hooked this bad boy up to a Sony 4k player popped in some amazing 4k movies and this unit simply outperformed any expectations that I had. Try the following 4k movies in here and you won't be disappointed at all. Jurassic Park collection, Jurrasic World, Saving Private Ryan, Dunkirk, The Dark Knight Trilogy, Aquaman, Avengers Infinity War and Avengers Endgame, The Meg, the Shallows. No doubt there are many more but this TV shines. You can do some additional tuning and I need to hook up a kicking sound system to it, would highly recommend something with Dolby Surround and you will be amazed just how tremendous this system is.
The crazy thing is, I debated going to an 85 inch screen as my 64 inch Samsung Plasma died that was 10 years old. I have been a die-hard Samsung owner for years but man, when I saw this unit in the store and the Best Buy tech showed me this compared side by side with the very best Samsung units in the store and this Sony just blew them away. While you will not perhaps get the deepest darkest blacks of an OLED with this Sony, the overall picture quality outweighs the one or two other benefits of the other tv's you will view. I am glad I went with the 85 I debated stepping up to a 75 inch tv, but knew I had the room for the 85. I sit approximately 12 feet away from the tv and to get that total immersive experience you absolutely need that 85 inch beast. If you can fit this unit you absolutely should go with the larger TV no questions asked.
I would highly recommend this Sony 85 X950G series tv it is phenomenal and I am loving watching sports at home I absolutely cannot wait for regular season NFL action, MLB playoffs and the start of the NBA season as well as continuing to watch great movies in 4k. I am absolutely expanding my 4k movie collection and upgrading to the most highly recommened 4k blu rays to watch these movies in their very highest level of presentation and clarity. Don't skimp on the HDMI cables either you should absolutely go with the highest quality cable you can afford as that clarity will shine through no question about it.

I reviewed these TV's between Sony and Samsung for what seemed like weeks and went back and forth a lot I previously had a Samsung 75 4K SUHD and it was a great TV until after only 3 years the TV had vertical lines appear and it was now junk, cost more to repair than worth or to buy a new one.
Enter the Sony my friend had one and it had an amazing picture, there were no blurring in the fast motions, gaming and color looked amazing.
I am so glad that I did choose this TV I have no problems with it and it is a beautiful thing to watch regular show, UHD Content, and play games on. The built in interface using Andriod is great easy to use and intuitive.
Did have to tweak the color settings some to fine tune but out of the box settings are really good, and the TV learns and adapts to what your watching and automatically adjust for optimum resolutions.
I am very happy with this TV the Size the quality, options, picture, apps. If I had to say one bad thing is that the built in sound is not always the greatest, but again better than my Samsung ever was, and is amazing with a sound-bar. I think I need to add the Sony sound-bar now to complete the puzzle but it is definitely a great buy in my opinion.
If you are comparing to OLED I would say this would be very comparable and be as close as you can get to actually getting into that market and models.
