Perfect starter camera for young YouTubers

Our daughter is 9 years old and has had a YouTube page for a little over a year now. She’s starting to get quite the following, and naturally wanted to upgrade her recording device. She was using her iPad, and occasionally her 19 year old sisters very expensive DSLR camera which has excellent quality, but she can only use it with supervision and that’s not always possible. She asked for a Vlogging camera for Christmas, and after some research we realized how expensive these particular type of cameras run. We talked to the store associates at Best Buy, and did some online research before settling on this camera for her. It’s a good starter camera because it has every component she needs to make better quality videos, and the price is resonable. We just couldn’t see spending $1000 on a camera for a 9 year old who may not even stick with this current hobby of hers. The sound quality is great, picture quality is excellent, and the zoom if I remember correctly was actually better than the more expensive cameras. It’s also super easy to use, and the flip screen makes recording by herself much easier. All in all it’s a great little camera at a fantastic price point. Depending on who it’s for and what it’s being used for I would highly recommend it. If she sticks with YouTube and continues to grow her base we’ll eventually upgrade her to one that’s a little more advanced as far as Megapixels and sound quality. For now this is the perfect camera for someone young, just starting out on YouTube making videos and Vlogging. Even if it’s just going to be used to make lasting family memories at home or on vacation I’d still say it’s a great buy and so lightweight as well!

Great Camera

I do free lance social media services and have to take photos of products usually still life, or portraits. I was using my phone and my client complained about the quality so I decided to get serious and buy a camera. At first ( as many people think) I thought I needed a DSLR but then after reading and watching many vlogger reviews realized there was a lot I could do with a digital camera and something compact and discreet was what I wanted. I also blog about events so having something small that fits in my purse or clutch is nice. I don't feel so flashy and in everyone's face with a big camera. I'm a beginner so I'm still learning all the tricks, but it's easy to play around with especially with the "picture tips" in the camera settings menu.
This camera takes great photos and the wifi upload is very handy. I also bought this camera for a trip to the Philippines this month and I am very excited to try it out. I plan to blow up the photos I take there for statement pieces for my parents living room. Many reviews and vlogs raved about the Sony rx100, but that was not in my budget... so this has proven to be a great step up for a beginner for the price.

Meets our criteria...

I'm normally a loyal Canon user, but this Sony camera fit our criteria. It is compact, has a viewfinder, and zoom. Based on limited trial, picture quality seems good. I'd give this five stars if the viewfinder didn't need to be manually raised and prepped for use which discourages using it for those quick shots. The flash must be clicked up for use even in automatic mode -- again taking precious seconds. The box did not include an external charger for batteries. Instead a cord enables battery charging while battery is in camera. We have an external charger on order. For around $15, this could have been part of the box contents rather than my needing to research and purchase one separately. Even with these cons, we feel the pros of viewfinder, size, and zoom along with good photos make this worthy four stars.

As Expected From Sony; Powerful Zoom

This is my third Sony Cyber-shot in the last 7 years. I loved the last one, but I got something on the sensor and decided to upgrade instead of cleaning the old one.
This camera has excellent zoom for a point and shoot. A good zoom is part of the reason I picked this one.
The photo quality is very good, although it's definitely worth taking the time to read through the owner's manual and become familiar with the various modes and settings.
I was initially so upset with the low-light, indoor shots (with flash) that I considered returning the camera. Some setting adjustments took care of most of that. Of course, a small pop-up flash can only go so far. Par for the course with point and shoots in general. Still, I find myself having to really adjust settings/flash to get good indoor shots in lower lighting. That's about the only reason that I rated the camera 4 instead of a 5.
I also initially thought that having to manually pop up the flash would drive me nuts. Now, after a couple weeks of owning it, it's just habit to pop it up as soon as I turn the camera on.
I've been impressed with the various night-time modes. Good results with those. The pool picture I added here was taken on sunset mode.
I like the flip screen. It's helpful for selfies, especially if you're cramming several people into the shot.
The macro photos I've gotten out of this camera are fabulous. Good focusing ability from the camera.
Basically, so far so good. There are a few user things that aren't especially intuitive, but since I'm already accustomed to Sonys, it works for me.
If you're after a point and shoot with awesome zoom and the ability to manually adjust settings, this is a pretty great option. It obviously doesn't have the bigger sensor that you'd get on a DSLR, but for what it is, it's great.

I love the features on the Sony point and shoot camera I have been using Sony Point and Shoot cameras for just over 10 years now and know a lot about Sony cameras now I like how it can zoom 30x my last Sony camera only did 20x and it has 18 pixels for clear photos and I love the 4K features on the camera since I have a Sony 4K tv the bad things about the camera is I wish I didn't have to flip up the flash to take a photo in dark areas luckily the camera reminds me to flip the flash and another thing that sucks about the camera is most of the time I have a hard time setting the zoom to the right zoom distance because its so touch sensitive. One thing to remember if you got a Sony point and shoot camera in the past 5 years and then just recently get a new Sony point and shoot your battery memory card and camera charger should work for your new camera since there all Sony products I now have two batteries and two camera chargers for one camera I did how ever get a new Memory card a 4K one since my new camera shoots and plays videos in 4K with a 4k memory card.

Nice little camera! It has a fantastic zoom for it's size. It is well constructed, and the pop-up eyepiece veiwfinder works very well. The flip-over screen is a useful touch. Great for selfies. Autofocus is quick and intuitive. Battery life is surprisingly long. I'd say 9 out of 10 photos will turn out great, as long as light is sufficient. It pretty much blows away most phone cameras.
The reason why I rated it 4 stars instead of 5 is because it is a little lackluster in low light. It will take a picture, but it is noticeably noisy and less sharp. The cameras with larger sensors will easily outdo it. Also, it is sorely lacking manual controls, including manual focus. Lastly, it only outputs photos in jpeg format. It would be nice to have a RAW or TIFF option. Video is only 1080, but that is to be expected at this price point, I suppose.
Despite these shortcomings, this is a very solid pocket-size point and shoot camera. It's zoom will put any smartphone to shame.

An Excellent Value In A Compact Camera
Posted .

I bought this HX80 about a month ago at Best Buy. This is my 3rd Sony compact camera over the last 15 years, but my first new one in 10 years. The last one was a DSC-W100 and it worked really well until I sold it on eBay about 2 years ago. I never upgraded it because I started using my older film SLRs again and I bought a couple of DSLRs from Nikon. Plus a number of smartphones with good cameras.
Right now the cameras I regularly use are 1. iPhone 7 plus, Nikon D5500, a couple of Olympus SLR film cameras, a couple of Minolta SLR film cameras, and a very excellent 1953 Voightlander Prominent. I added the DSC-HX80 as a pocket camera bridge between the iPhone and my bigger cameras. So far this Sony does exactly what I hoped it would do. It takes pictures that are a little bit better quality than the iPhone 7 plus and not quite as good as the Nikon. I am surprised at how good the color rendition is of the photos. It is comparable to either the Apple or the Nikon, which means very very good. The details are a bit better than the Apple. Some of this is because the picture files are over 50% larger than the Apple.
The lens on this camera is very good for the price. The details a quite sharp and at least as good as the iPhone. The key though is that this camera can optically zoom to a 700mm lens equivalent. The iPhone does quite well but only up to it's 56mm second lens. This camera is very good at capturing photos of animals at the zoo where I volunteer. It reaches a long way with very good results.
But this Sony is not as good as my Nikon D5500 or my film SLRs as far as image quality. This is not a replacement for a higher end larger camera. But it is an excellent pocket camera. This does have a small electronic viewfinder. It is VERY small and hard to see through. Plus you have to put your face in exactly the right place to get it to go on. That said it is possible to preview the picture you are going to get with the EVF. The flip up back screen is quite useful, but impossible to see in bright sunlight. This camera is small. I like it. Anyone who has had a DSC series Sony over the years will find the menu system familiar.

I am very pleased with this camera. It is easy to use. I love how quickly pictures sync up with my phone and tablet. When I zoom out the picture quality is very clear compared to my Canon. It takes great low light pictures. This camera has so many features I like such as the view finder, flip screen and more. You will not be disappointed with this camera.

I bought a Canon but didn’t like that I had to charge the battery separate so I returned it. I got this one, open box and I love it! Battery lasts long, pictures are great and it handles well. I use it for work, taking hundreds of pictures per day. Also you can adjust the picture size for emailing easier.

We took this on vacation only 2 weeks after buying it because our other camera broke down last minute. We love how easy it has been to use and the picture turned out great. There were a lot of places we were unable to use flash and we still got great pictures. Love the pop up view finder and the adjustable pop out screen. No more neck aches trying to capture great shots from awkward neck positions.

Purchased the Sony HX80 camera to carry daily. It's a cool compact camera, handles well and is easy to navigate for use of it's many features. I like that you can shoot pictures in Aperture, Shutter, or Manual Mode, the Auto Intelligent mode is cool too when you want to snap a photo quickly. The camera works well in low light indoors shooting handheld and has an anti blur feature. Also like that it has the pop up viewfinder which is handy when needed when shooting in brightest sun. I think it's an excellent first camera for an aspiring young photographer.

I wanted a new camera that would allow me to upload and email my pictures while I was on a trip to Europe. So, I eliminated all the cameras that did not have wifi or bluetooth or nfc to my phone. It also had to be small enough to fit in my pocket. Some of the reviews for this camera complained that it was too fragile. I did not find that to be the case. It went all over Europe in my pocket and came out without a scratch. In case it was true, though, I did by the service plan as insurance against breakage. It was about 10% of the cost of the camera, but it does provide peace of mind. I took about 700 pictures on the trip, had to charge the battery once in addition to the initial full charge. Filled up one 64gb memory card and part of a second. I did have a couple issues though. First, the buttons and dials on the right side of the camera can inadvertently be pressed when taking pictures. You just have to be careful and not press the buttons. Had a little trouble with panoramic pictures, the camera kept telling me to keep it level and would abort the picture. I think it's an acquired skill. It also took a while to get taking videos, but by the end of the trip I was able to take videos.
The thing I liked best about the camera was it was small, fit in my pocket, took pictures and I was able to easily transfer them to my phone and send them home. For about $300 I feel like I got my money's worth.
