    The perfect microphone for beginners!

I bought the Sony ZV-E10 in November during Black Friday, and at the time, I didn't really think about needing a microphone at all. I could always edit my videos in post and try to turn up the volume a little bit, but I got tired of it because it was something that you have to constantly adjust since the level of the noise is unpredictable. I started researching microphones that were compatible with my new camera, and I stumbled across this little guy: the ECM-G1! I thought the microphone was perfect and wasn't too big and obnoxious looking, and I was correct! The microphone is perfect for capturing audio that is in front of the camera, so your voice will come through perfectly clear (unless you are in a very loud and noisy place). I also does a good job at picking up your voice from behind the camera, but it won't come through as strong since this microphone is more front-based. As mentioned, when you slip this little guy into the hot-shoe, you will no longer control the audio level as this microphone does it all automatically. I find this to be very nice since I don't know much about audio, and I don't want to do any tweaking to mess anything up. There is no battery that is needed for this microphone since it will be powered through the actual camera's battery, so make sure you have a charger or extra batteries on hand when going out! In conclusion, buying this microphone has improved my videos by a lot! It is the perfect size, and it won't get in the way of anything or add any bulk to your pockets/bags because of its small size. This is the perfect microphone for beginners because you don't have to do anything to get great audio for your videos!

Get better sound quality in your videos . Sony has several options but this has exactly what you need. Great hot shoe connectivity. No cables required on the SONY A7CII . Have used at live concerts and videos and sound quality improved incredibly. No need to adjust anything . Just slide to hot shoe and you are good to go . Camera and mike sync automatically. Simple and gets the job done .. improve your video sound quality and raise the bar.. highly recommended at this price point .

The Sony Shotgun Microphone is an easy and simple to use external mic that attaches to the Sony Vloggers ZV-1F camera. The microphone attaches to the camera via MI shoe or a 3.5mm audio cable. The 3.5mm audio out jack is intended to be used on devices that are not compatible with the MI shoe dock. The Shotgun mic does not require batteries and is small, light weight and extremely portable. The mic is designed to be highly directional and does an excellent job in isolating audio in directly in front of the camera for vlogging or doing interviews. The captured audio quality is crisp clear and punchy. The microphone does also come with a wind screen that does help in reducing wind noise but will only do so much. If you’re out recording on a windy day, it will pick up some noise. The microphone also has built-in suspension which helps reduce minor bumps. Overall, this microphone is a great addition to the Sony Vlogger ZV-1F camera. The simple plug and play design combined with the wireless connection makes this the perfect microphone.

Great External Mic for Sony's Vlogger ZV-1F Camera

Sony has released their basic vlogger shotgun microphone which is built to pick up sounds directly in front of itself. In the box includes the mic, a wind screen cover, a short 3.5mm cable for connecting the mic to the camera (sold separately) and some user guides. The microphone comes with a manufacturer's 1-year warranty. PROS: ----------- * Very small/compact * Built-in shock absorber * No controls and foolproof with one output * Picks up directional audio very well, inside or outside * The deadcat muff wind screen works very well * There is actually decent audio behind and in front of the mic * Picks up voice frequencies very well as this is what it's made for * Very voice forward, punchy, simple, plug and play CONS: ----------- * It does pick up some ambient noise if outside * There is some mic noise where shock absorber hits the plastic edge of the plastic mount. I placed a small rubber band around the bottom of the mic to stabilize the mic a bit better to eliminate any kind of knocking should the camera shake a lot. OTHER OBSERVATIONS: ----------- * Simple hookup to the hot shoe mount of the camera CONCLUSION: ===================== This is a great option for any camera with a hot shoe mount and mic input. In almost every case, an external mic exceeds the performance of a built-in internal mic. Due to incredible compactness of this mic, you should be able to use it anytime and should fit in most camera bags and take up very little space. If you want simple, high quality, and a good price point, this is one of the best options out there.

The Sony ECM-G1 ultracompact camera mount vlogger shotgun microphone is a great addition to my Sony ZV-1F Vlog Camera, they play great together. The mic comes with a recording cable, wind screen protection cap and a pouch. The microphone is small and yet it captures high quality sound. The camera picks up good sound but when outdoors or busy places the ECM-G1 picks up mostly what is in front of it making it easier on me so I do not have to edit much on the sound. The ECM G1 comes with a great wind screen to reduce wind noise and it works nicely, best for outdoors. The mic has soft shoe mount so whenever I am adjusting the camera while recording I don’t get overwhelmed with the sound of it, it does have great suppression. It is easy to connect, with the Multi Interface shoe, just mount and done. And it does not need batteries, I remember one time with a previous mic I forgot the batteries and I was done for a while, with this mic I do not need to worry about not having batteries. If I want to use the mic with other devices I can, because it does have a 3.5 mic out jack and it does come with the cable to do so. Overall the microphone is small to mount on my camera even using it with a gimbal it works flawlessly. No need for batteries is a plus. The wind screen is super helpful to have and even the pouch to put everything away is a plus. One thing I would like for the next one is to be able to turn the mic back in case I am recording facing away from me and want to record my voice.

    Excellent small, lightweight shotgun microphone

First impression: My first impression of the Sony ECM-G1 vlogger microphone is that it was sturdy, comes with a good anti-vibration mount, and with no configuration and a single audio out, is very simple to use. Features: This microphone uses Sony’s proprietary MI hot shoe. The MI stands for “multi-Interface” and allows easy plug-in of Sony peripherals without difficult configurations or external cables. This is good for cameras like the ZV-1F which I use with this microphone. You can use this with other cameras with the included 3.5mm cable. Pros and Cons: Pros: • Much better audio compared to the built-in microphone. • Fully automatic when recording through the hot shoe. • Very small and lightweight (33 grams). • Short, so it will never enter the shot. • Records audio directly through the MI hot shoe. • Good ambient noise suppression and cleaner, clearer audio from the front. • Firmly sits on the MI shoe, not likely to ever slip out. • Can be used with non-MI hot shoes through the includes 3.5mm cable. • No built-in battery to worry about. Cons: • I had a very difficult time finding cons with this microphone, but I did find a few: • No audio control when recording through the hot shoe. This is both a Pro and a Con, depending on the situation. • Price. There are much cheaper mics out there than this mic, but not with the automatic audio adjustments which definitely come in handy sometimes. Performance: This microphone performed very well. In small rooms, it had a more pronounced sound with less chorus sound that the built-in microphone. In outside use, it had a better sound than the built-in microphone. And in very noisy environments, it reduced the ambient noise a good amount from the rear and the sides, while providing intelligible audio from the front. In one situation, it couldn’t remove all the ambient noise, there was just too much. But I could still understand the person speaking, where I could not with the built-in microphone. Conclusion: The Sony ECM-G1 did very well in all circumstances. I cannot think of a time that the built-in microphone did as good as this shotgun mic. I did compare it with a much more expensive, larger shotgun mic for my own information, and I will not include that in my review because it is not fair. But I will tell you that there was one circumstance where the Sony ECM-G1 did better than that microphone. So, the question is whether the Sony ECM-G1 is worth buying, especially at the price. Only you can answer that. But I will tell you this; it has its place, especially for my Sony cameras that have the proprietary MI hot shoe. It’s small, lightweight, and very easy to use, and it does a much better job than the built-in microphone, which itself sounded pretty good. As for me, I have a few shotgun mics for my cameras, but this mic has earned a place in my Sony ZV-1F camera case and is the only external shotgun microphone I will be using with that camera. I highly recommend the Sony ECM-G1 vlogger shotgun microphone.

I have a joby wavo for my dslr that i use also. So i used this as an component comparison. A few things to remember. When using this on most Sony cameras you dont actually need to have the 3.5mm plugged in to get it to work. Thats realy really cool so no batteries to worry about charging But you cannot adjust the gain if it is mounted this way which if you have really loud area that you are recording you cant bring the loundness down. If you switch to the 3.5mm you cant adjust the gain in the camera and its really nice to be able to have that adjustment. Compared to the joby on playback on my pc the audio level is very similar. I took a video clip with both side by side to compare. For how small this mic is on top of the camera it definitely does the trick. But it does lose a bit when multiple people are speaking near the mic. The joby wavo can keep them separated better. But for vlogging this actually performed better with just me talking and recording. My voice level stayed pretty even. One thing I will say i tried to adjust the gains on the mic to replicate what is on my dslr. But over all this is definitely suited for using this for vlogging duties over video recording many people large area. Highly recommend for single or few content creation audio. But for recording larger group's i would suggest keeping the camera from being to close to all the action. I am no pro at thia so im learning as I go.

Compact and Perfect For Adventurers On The Go

The very compact camera/vlogging mic you’ve been waiting for. In comparison to my other shotgun mic this was casts a large shadow in the capabilities Sony has equipped this mic with. The statute and size alone were attractive enough to get my attention. My favorite part is that once you slide it into the slot on top of the camera it pairs with the camera and switches the audio source from the camera to the shotgun mic. I found it so tough to manage with a third party mic. I’d consider myself somewhere between a novice to intermediate vlogger. The mic comes with a wire so that you can connect it directly to the camera and a sleeve to cover the mic in windy conditions. The setup book says that it minimizes shock and vibration but if I am honest, every now and then the sound was fuzzy when filming inside. I’m pretty sure it was a user error but I wanted to mention this because it happened a handful of times. The design overall is perfect for someone who wants a shotgun mic that fits in your pocket, it is dynamic in the base with a spring so that it absorbs shock, the grate or grill on the mic is sleek, while the whole mic is true to Sony’s designs with braided metal and matte finishes across. Lastly, the mic is powered through the shoe once you slide it into place. A wonderful shotgun mic for someone on the go, who doesn’t want to be hindered while adventuring in mountains or the outdoors! I can’t wait to use this at my theme park vacation next month!

--- SETUP --- This is a plug and play microphone that doesn’t require external power. Plug it in with the included cable and the camera will use the shotgun mic. --- FEATURES --- Forward directional focus, powered through camera, includes cable to connect to camera, windscreen protector, small and compact. --- PERFORMANCE AND EXPECTATIONS --- I tested this microphone with a Sony ZV-1F vlogger camera. The microphone did an amazing job at capturing my private dance student lessons. I like to record my dance lessons and explain to my students what moves they are learning or how to do a step or pattern. My voice was more clear than just using my phone or the Sony camera’s built-in microphone. Recently, it was also my birthday. Being a dance instructor, my dance students threw a surprise party for me. Many of them stood up and shared some kind words with me while I had the camera running. I was able to capture all the speeches and the audio came through nicely. Because of its compact size, it is easy for me to travel with it and I can install it in a matter of seconds. --- APPROVAL --- I am extremely happy with this microphone and because it’s so easy to install, I will continue to use it in most of my recording situations. I recommend this microphone for vloggers, dance instructors, or anyone who might need to record and speak directly to the front of the camera that’s picking up their audio.

This is a very simple no frills shotgun microphone that is very easy to set up and use. It does make a very noticeable improvement in audio quality, and I am very impressed with it. It has a MI SHOE connectivity, but I do not have any devices that are set up for that standard, so I had to use the included 3.5mm cable for connectivity. This unit is very lightweight and has a little shock absorber built in, however, during excessive vibration (me running with camera to get a shot) you can hear some knocking in the audio. So, if you are looking for a microphone that can handle excessive vibration, you may want to look elsewhere since Sony has designed this microphone with product reviews, vlogging, and interviews in mind. The included windscreen cuts down on the noise dramatically and it fits over the 3.5mm jack as well. At first when I started using the microphone, I didn’t notice any improvement in the audio when I connected it up to my Sony ZV-1F camera and also my FDR-AX43 4k Sony handycam. Neither one has the MI SHOE input so after reading up, I discovered that I had to use the 3.5mm cable to get better audio. Not a big deal, but it was something I didn’t realize right out of the box. Overall, this microphone pairs well with the ZV-1F camera that just came out and it works great for vlogging and interviewing people.

The Sony ECM-G1 Vlog Microphone is the perfect addition to Sony cameras with an MI shoe, such as the ZV-1F camera. It improves the sound in a wonderful way, and makes your voice clear and professional-sounding. The microphone does not require cables or power to run on Sony cameras with an MI shoe, which is very convenient. You can just slide it in place and start recording and you won’t have to worry about the audio being out of sync either. With other cameras, you might have to use the included 3.5mm cable to be able to record. The mic is small and lightweight, and is designed to reduce sounds from vibration and movement, making it the perfect candidate for vloggers and content creators, who are looking for a microphone that can handle unpredictable filming environments. The microphone comes with a big fluffy wind screen that can handle plenty of wind and plosives. It doesn’t seem to effect the sound either. In fact, it was hard for me to tell the difference while comparing the sound in a quiet environment. I recommend to always use it while filming outdoors. I wouldn’t leave home without it. The 14.6mm mic capsule specializes in focusing on the voice directly in front of the mic with its highly directional supercardioid pickup pattern. My voice sounded very clear and essentially ready to be broadcast, which is very convenient when you’re filming videos for social media that need to be uploaded quickly and regularly. A pouch is included for quick storage, although I would’ve preferred a small little case to keep it more protected. The microphone looks and feels sturdy, so I’m confident it can handle travel quite well. I recommend this shotgun mic to content creators who want a professional sound while filming content for YouTube and social media. It’s also perfect for documentary-style videos and interviews. The convenient size makes it a great addition to your Sony camera.

The Sony ECM-G1 shotgun mic utilizes a multi-interface shoe that is compatible with either a camera’s hot shoe (using the multi-interface shoe contacts) or cold shoe (using the included 3.5mm interface cable). A wind screen and carrying pouch are also included with the mic and cable. The mic is small, lightweight, and build quality feels sturdy and reliable. The mic ships with a protective cover over the multi-interface shoe and users are instructed not to touch the shoe contacts with bare skin. The ECM-G1 latches onto the hot/cold shoe via a screw-down lock. I use the ECM-G1 with the Sony ZV-1F vlogger camera. The ZV-1F utilizes a cold shoe, so the mic is powered by the included 3.5mm interface cable. The mic noticeably improve vocal sound quality over that of the built-in camera mic. Obviously, results may vary depending on the quality of the camera mic, but on this particular camera, voices sound more natural, warmer, and there is less background distortion. It makes the audio sound more professionally produced. It’s not a groundbreaking difference in quality but noticeable and I prefer using the ECM-G1 over the built in mic. The mic works well with the ZV-1F but the only thing I’d change is I’d opt for a hot shoe connection and ditch the wire.
