This is a pretty decent soundbar and subwoofer. I currently own a JBL that I bought for $100 less than the cost of this one, back in 2015. I was hoping that this Sony would be the perfect replacement when that one stops working. Unfortunately that is not that case. My current soundbar and sub are much MUCH more powerful. You literally feel like you are in a movie theater when watching movies... the walls, floors and everything vibrate with bass and depth. While this Sony has great sound and depth as well, it simply doesn't compare when it comes to the sub. I had the sub turned all the way up, level 12, and it doesn't come near to my JBL, which is currently set to only about 70% of its full capability. The Sony has a better remote, with way more options for sounds and settings. I have tried them all and since deciding to use this in the bedroom, I will mostly utilize cinema, audio, voice and night modes. There is an Immersive button/setting, which is meant to make you feel surrounded by the audio. There is also a Dimmer button, to dim the lighting on the soundbar. I like that you can hit the arrow button on the remote and see what settings you are currently using. Takes the guessing out when trying to figure out which one you like best. The soundbar and sub are very sleek in design, and will look good in any room you put them in. I cannot forget to mention how easy this was to set up. All you have to do is plug everything in and Wallah! The sub connected to the soundbar automatically, no pairing needed. Definitely makes it easier for those that are not that great with technology.

I’ve been using this soundbar for just about 2 weeks now; I’ve had it so long, that I’ve been reminded that I haven’t submitted this review yet! I consider myself somewhat of an Audiophile. Well, maybe not ‘the guy that spends thousands on a single speaker Audiophile’ - but one for a normal budget type of guy. I went from a receiver that did 4K pass-thru (but not HDR) and 5.2 (dual subs), to a single sound bar with a single subwoofer. I was so skeptical, that you’ll see my subs stacked off to the side in the photos, as I thought I’d be unhooking this and putting it aside. I’ve wanted to downsize my setup and make it more streamline, but haven’t had the opportunity until just recently. Man, is this thing crazy. Trim is a great word for the soundbar, however the subwoofer is pretty substantial in size. At 38.5 inches, it fits my TV stand, better than my TV does. The setup was really simple and I’m a guy that knows his way around audio equipment, receivers and configurations. It was so simple, that I was like … “no way, this is it?” Optical out of the TV, INTO the sound bar so it can play all of the sound from the Apps via the bar. HDMI to the soundbar from the Blu Ray Player. HDMI to the TV to the ARC port. Turn on one, turn on all. Love it. So, I fired up the TV, set the Input on the receiver and there it was - supplying all of the audio with no effort. I updated my Harmony remote with a few extra functions so as to not wipe my mega stereo config, and the integration was flawless. During Harmony config, this was so new that it didn’t exist, so a comparable Sony config was the HT-S350 (in case this helps anyone else) and I’ve had no issues. You can dim the display, or turn it off altogether, which is what I went with; I don’t need to see it say “TV” or AUX or BT the whole time. Bluetooth pairing was super simple and I didn’t have any issues with disconnects, stuttering or the like when streaming from my mobile device. OK, let’s get on to the performance. The Fast and The Furious was the movie I tested. While not dual-woofer bassy (I like overkill, much to Audyssey's dismay), it was nice. When the volume went up, the sound and bass was felt a floor away. I’ve since used it for EVERYTHING and haven’t gone back to my Receiver/Speaker/Subs setup. I sat in my chair and heard sound coming from my floor speakers, however they weren’t on - there was no power to the old receiver. I got up and sure enough, the bar was bouncing sound off to the sides; insanity. There is no “tinny” sound that I’ve heard from other sound bars. As for the ATMOS sound, I can’t say I listened to anything with that capability, but again - this thing throws sound everywhere and I have NO idea how it does it. I imagine that the ATMOS part will be insane as well. The “auto” sound selection is slick, where you can actually hear the changes as it picks the right setting for what you’re listening to when you start a show; I don’t believe it changes it mid-listening as I never heard any type of re-calibration due to mode change. Don't like it? Don't worry, there are other settings you can use to suit your taste. From bassy reggae style music, to car engines and monologue-driven shows, this soundbar DOES NOT disappoint. I think it’s time to move my equipment to storage; I have no reason to go back.

    Incredible Soundbar!

This Sony Soundar is incredible! I was especially curious about their “immersive experience” setting. THIS IS A GAME CHANGER!!! I really loved it when I connected my phone and was listening to music. It made me feel like I was at the concert. It replicated the feel of actually going to a concert because the sound comes at you organically. What I mean by that is It doesn’t feel like the music is coming from LEFT SPEAKER….& RIGHT SPEAKER like every other sound bar and stereo. The Sony Soundbar with the Immersive feature feels like the sound is coming from the original singer and instruments on stage… I walked up to the sound bar and was leaning in to try to pin point the sound and it just envelops you! It truly is incredible!! It does exactly what they claim...It envelops you. I sat there and turned the feature on and off a couple of times and kept saying "wow". Now imagine that with your first person shooter or any of your favorite video games or movies! The bullets flying the explosions rumbling. Next level stuff. The sound is so well balanced. With many soundbars Iv'e had, the subwoofer and the bar fight each other and muddle each other. From my previous units, I would get great bass and poor clarity on the talking scenes or vice versa. It was frustrating. The Sony soundbar is crystal clear and so balanced. It is so nice to clearly hear an intimate conversation on screen and then the scene cuts to an action scene and the bass is there to really bring you into the action. With this Sony soundbar the bass and the bar are in perfect harmony! I went through a dozen or so of my favorite movies and checked out different scenes because I was so excited to hear what Sony accomplished with this soundbar, dinosaurs, helicopter, shootouts and the awesome soundtracks that accompany all that action were a new experience with this soundbar! Set up was a breeze! I literally pulled out the bar plugged it into my TV, plugged my game console into the bar and paired the subwoofer and I was done in a few minutes…Super easy. It has a cool demo feature as well to try out. Using the eArc/ARC made controls easy. I usually play games with my gaming headphones but the bass on this soundar really put you into the action a headphone can’t. My living room literally sounds like a war zone!!! Sooo cool. Ultimately for me, this soundbar does what all great technology does at its best, it blends into our lives seamlessly and allows for a deeper enjoyment of our lives. I find myself watching my favorite shows or listening to my music and just being able to get lost in it. On tv shows the clarity and realistic sound takes me into the moment more than I thought a soundbar could do. I wish I could give it 6 Stars!!! It’s that Good!!

I recently purchased the Sony HT-G700 3.1 Channel Soundbar with Wireless Subwoofer, and it has completely transformed my home entertainment experience. The sound quality is exceptional, with crystal-clear dialogue, immersive surround sound, and deep, rich bass thanks to the wireless subwoofer. The Dolby Atmos and DTS:X technology make it feel like I'm right in the middle of the action, whether I'm watching movies, playing games, or listening to music. The setup was incredibly straightforward, and the sleek black design fits perfectly with my home decor. I also appreciate the various sound modes that allow me to customize the audio based on what I'm watching or listening to. The Bluetooth connectivity is seamless, making it easy to stream music from my phone or other devices. Overall, the Sony HT-G700 offers outstanding performance and value for its price. It's a fantastic addition to any home theater setup, delivering a powerful and immersive audio experience. Highly recommended!

I love Sony products and own many newer items from the past few years that I'm very happy with. Yet this HT-G700 3.1 soundbar has me wanting so much more and maybe I'm to blame more than Sony. The soundbar is very nice looking with it's rounded edges, metal grill, and small screen between the speakers to show mode/settings/audio level. That is all very good and Sony is pretty great at getting the styling I prefer. And sound is above average if you feed it the best possible sound source (Dolby Atmos from a disc or streaming service that offers it). It sounds very balanced and most people will be happy. Unfortunately, when you feed it real world audio(my world anyways, Comcast Cable/YouTube from Sony Android TV, and Amazon streaming). It makes me wonder why the electronics they added do so little. The sound is great for dialog, but seems dead to all the ambient noise in a scene that Atmos or even basic surround adds to your viewing enjoyment. And I'm not talking about upconverting 2.0 stereo feed to 5.1. I just don't hear enough room filling sound when using the sound fields Sony provided on the remote, especially the "Immersive AE". When using A/V sources I think many still use. The audio is all treble straight across the bar and the subwoofer is nearly non-existent. I even reset the system to factory and double checked my connections because I thought the audio sounded flat from all but true Atmos sources. And yes, I read the manual to verify and troubleshoot my setup. The speakers in the sound bar get loud and can go up to 100, but the subwoofer only goes to 12 and sounds absent on regular broadcast tv. My example is ABC's The Rookie(TV Show). A good mix of talking and occasional action. The bass was never enough to make the men or action sound quite right. I think if you stick to high end audio sources like Blu-ray and pay for the highest tier of streaming services. You will enjoy the HT-G700. And with it being Sony, it should last you long enough to get to the next audio upgrade. Sony, if you're listening. Please offer an app that adds an equalizer and maybe an update to allow a bit more push from the subwoofer. This setup is close to being really good for even basic audio sources. Would I recommend, yes, but read above if you are still are on basic cable.

We apologize the HT-G700 did not meet all your expectations. The G700 has a variety of sound modes to help enhance your viewing experience. We recommend using the Cinema mode for your TV content. If your subwoofer isn’t adjacent to a wall in the corner, we recommend placing the subwoofer there to improve your bass performance. We also recommend running your cable TV feed through the soundbar first (connect the HDMI In port of the soundbar) to optimize the sound quality for you. Please contact us @[email protected] if you have any questions and we will be happy to assist you. Thank you. Sony_US

Sony’s HT-G700 3.1ch Dolby Atmos Soundbar sets a new standard for performance in the $599 Soundbar price range. Featuring the latest advances in surround sound, including Dolby Atmos & DTS:X & paired with capable 400 Watts of power, it enhances the sound from virtually any TV with style & class. It even upscales basic flat TV sound to the latest 7.1.2 channel audio with a one touch AE (Audio Enhancer) button on the remote! This is a very effective tool for spreading the sound all around the room without the clutter of separate speakers & messy wires all around. This Soundbar has a dedicated center channel that produces crisp, clear vocals. This feature alone transforms the muddled vocals from the rear mounted TV speakers that bounce the entire sound frequency against the surface directly behind the TV (usually drywall). Think your hearing is deteriorating or that your TV disappoints because you cannot understand the voices anymore? Listen to this sounder with it's dedicated center channel & you will be pleasantly surprised! Connection is as easy as you can imagine. Simply plug in the Soundbar & the Wireless Subwoofer & connect the included HDMI cable to the TV & the Soundbar. Night Mode is a one-button selection from the included Remote that balances the sound to a quieter level for evening viewing, without disturbing others. CONCLUSION: Sony’s HT-G700 3.1ch Dolby Atmos Soundbar stakes out Head of the Class in the $599 Soundbar price point. Recommended.

Yes, it's a soundbar. I'm not here to impress audiophiles and snobs. For something without satellite speakers, it's impressive. We are dealing with a TV over the fireplace, another offense to some. But I don't feel shortchanged for needing something that fits on the fireplace mantle. It works, and it integrates with the TV/HDMI combo to power on and off with the TV. No need to fuss with a separate remote just to adjust the volume. My wife and I are pretty happy with a sleek, minimal setup that can still make movies loud and crisp when needed.

If you are a sound snob you probably won't love this sound bar, but for us everyday users it is great. Previous sound bar was a Definitive Technology that died on me. Never liked the DT soundbar. It was not compatible with the TV or DirecTV remotes so always had to have two remotes to watch anything. Since my TV was a Sony, went with the HT-G700 as a replacement. Install and set up were super easy thanks to Sony compatibility. If you have an ARC HDMI it is plug and play. Menu and functions are easy to figure out. Sound quality is perfectly fine for me, and I think most users will be happy with it.

Solid performance and easy to set up. Sound quality is good, not amazing, but for $400 (sale price) you get a pretty good Dolby Atmos (and several other Dolby formats) experience. Includes eARC which is a great feature and it’s surprising to find that it’s one of the few soundbars to have it in this price range. Subwoofer is wireless so all you need is a power source nearby to plug in. I’ve had no issues with the subwoofer disconnecting like I’ve read about in some lower priced alternative brands. At least SONY can get that right! There is a voice control option and you should be able to use Alexa or Google thru it while it is connected to a smart TV. A couple flaws, which are: no wifi connection; bass volume control doesn’t go very loud, but it’s not like it’s bad either; no up-firing speakers on the soundbar, so you don’t get a “true” Atmos experience with the vertical sounds. Subwoofer looks good and is good but not great. The build quality is all excellent and it was extremely simple to set up. For the price it is a good all around package and you’d need to spend double the money to get the next level of Dolby Atmos in a soundbar system. I’d definitely recommend this soundbar for the sale price of $399 or lower but at the regular price of $599 I might look for something else.

I was very pleased at the quality of the sound from this single sound bar and wireless sub. The G700 is a 3.1 sound system that sounds fantastic. With the dedicated center channel the dialog is crystal clear and the sub integrates smoothly. Connected to your TV's ARC input you can send sound from all of your TV's sources. The included remote is well laid out and provide the buttons necessary to control the G700. Using the immersive button really opens up the sound stage with 2.0 signals. The remote has controls for the the sub volume. The sound bar has an LED display behind the speaker grill which can be turned off. This is a great sound bar for homes with limited space or people who want great sound with without a full surround sound system!!

The look is very sleek and feels very well made. It sounds pretty good but the bass could use a little more power. It was easy to set up and haven't lost any connection to the bass or audio. This is my first sound bar so it's hard to say how good is it since don't have a baseline or what to compare it to but I do have 2 speaker and a bass connected to my desktop and I feel that bass has more power. While its not bad sometimes I wish it could go up a bit more.

I was looking for something to replace my previous soundbar, and I think I found the perfect match with the Sony HTG700. Some of the things that definitely peaked my interest with this model is the compact footprint. I know I wanted my next soundbar to have support for Dolby Atmos and I was able to get that feature on this hardware without the need for two rear channel speakers. I have a relatively small living room in my apartment, so I liked that this model has a wireless subwoofer and can simulate a 7.1.2 configuration with just two pieces of equipment. Overall, its a great value and very reasonable sound quality from a reputable brand like Sony, what's not to like about that?

I would recommend this to a friend
