Good value but lacks some features.

I bought this dvd recorder to replace my Sony dvd recorder/vhs recorder combo unit. However, I found that the new dvd recorder does not have a key feature that my combo unit has: I prefer using -RW for recording because I do a lot of editing and +RW does not have the same sophisticated editing capabilities that -RW has: no matter what you may read. (+RW editing is accomplised through the "dividing of titles" and then deleting the unwanted titles. -RW edits by inserting chapters or markers and then deleting the unwanted chapters/sections.) When recording in the -RW/VR mode: The older Sony allows you to place chapter markers when you are using the edit feature. The 360 does not. (Note: The use of chapter markers enables the segmenting of the recording which then enables the undesired chapters, such as commercials, to be edited out - making a smooth final recording without unwanted parts.) It appears that Sony had not included this capability on the 360 - making editing very difficult. I kept my older Sony and gave this new one away. It really is a good value though for most users- unless you want to do a lot of dvd recording where you want to edit out commercials and other unwanted data.

I don't have much to say about it. It works well, it does what I bought it to do. It upconverts my normal DVDs to HD and it records to DVDs. Using the ir blaster you can easily just hit record and it'll start recording from the cable box. Picture quality on the recorded DVDs is good, not great. And theres a lot of different settings I don't know what they do or how to use them. But other than that good product.

I recommend this product only because SONY does indeed make reliable products. Its a great product and well worth the price. I do recommend you purchase the extended protection plan just in case anything happens!

After having purchased 2 vcr/dvd recorder combos and returning them, one a Toshiba listed here, and a Sony also listed here, because of poor quality on the vcr part. I decided to go with this unit, as it's a tunerless dvd recorder only, and this works for me! I really don't need a tuner, I run the ouput from my Satelite tv direct to the input of this unit, and it's fine. If I need something from a vcr, then I use my old and trusty 7 year old Sony s -video vcr, which is still far superior to any current vcr I've seen so far. Dvd playback is outstanding very close to my blue-ray!

I bought this unit because i heard so much about up converting dvd players providing a better picture on high def tvs then standard dvd players also I saw a samsung unit on my fathers tv look awesome.knowing that sony puts a good product out i decided to try it .the picture looked worse then a standard dvd player i tried a multiple number of configurations on the player and the tv to get it to work but i still had fuzz out lines and white lines at time on kids movies i was using a hdmi cable for the hook up to the tv .returned the unit within three days of purchase.
