Customers are pleased with the SRS-XB32 Portable Bluetooth Speaker's exceptional sound quality, impressive battery life, and powerful bass. Many also appreciate its ease of use, attractive lights, and convenient size. While some found the weight a bit substantial and expressed a preference for a different charging port, the positive feedback on sound and battery life outweighs these minor concerns. The speaker's waterproof design is also a frequently praised feature.

This compact, portable Bluetooth speaker is a very smart buy! It works instantly, right out of the box, and connecting devices to Bluetooth is so quick and easy. The sound is clear, loud and just incredible for a speaker this size, and fills a large room perfectly. In addition, the changing color light show is so cool, and moves to the beat of the music.

The reviews on this speaker are mostly good, seems hit or miss, but overall, I've got a lot to say about it, and I think it's one of the best speakers you can buy.
To start, the lighting is fantastic, multizone, although not individually controllable at this time, you can choose themes. It drains the internal battery significantly more, but it can be turned off from a button on the speaker or the app via Bluetooth. The only downsides are that the button is behind the waterproof flap; secondly, the lighting is not concealed at all within the speaker, so if you drop it, the waterproof rating is likely nullified.
The sound quality is excellent with or without LDAC. You can crank it up to 100% and it's not distorted as my JBL Charge 3 was. Very awesome!
The battery life so far has been 20+ hours without a charge, medium volume with no lights so I as long as you don't push it Max volume with lights, definitely will last you the rates, but in a party situation.. good luck!
Overall great speaker. Washable. Aesthetically pleasing. It is a bit of a "fingerprint magnet" but I'd definitely recommend it!

I'm in Las Vegas this week for training with the military, I forgot to bring my beats pill speaker. So I went to Best buy in Las Vegas to buy another speaker, they did not have any beats... So I bought this Sony speaker it's the Sony Extra Base SRS-XB32. Unlike the beats pill that you can just plug up and it's ready to play, this one needed to be charged for 5 hours before it could start playing. It's a cool little speaker small convenient a little bit bigger than the beats pill, it also lights up to the beat, and you also have the option of turning those lights off. I did not know that it took 5 hours to charge it until I got it out the box and started plugging it up... This particular Best buy didn't really have a lot of options in the Bluetooth speaker section... So this one was really bought by default. However, once I got it going it was good to go the sound was clear but I kept it plugged up just in case... I'm one of those people that wherever I go I have to have my music with me, it helps me concentrate on things I have to do and it's mood altering. I can't complain I just don't like that I had to wait 5 hours to charge it up just to play it... So, when I'm on another trip I probably won't take it I'll take my beats, but if you have the time to charge it beforehand then you'll be fine.

If you've been following Sony's line of Bluetooth speakers, you're probably wondering what’s new with the 2019’s Sony SRS-XB32 compared to 2018’s Sony SRS-XB31.
-= What’s New in 2019? =-
Exterior: The XB31 had a fabric coating covering the entire unit. The XB32 only has fabric on the front where the drivers are located. The rest of the unit is a rubberized plastic. The “Sony” logo was also moved from the front of the speaker to the top.
Lights: The lighting features are basically the same, except on the XB-32 the LED strips come together into one line on the side. The colors and white LED flashes are still the same.
Dedicated “LIVE” button: The “Live Sound” feature is more easily accessible on the XB32 thanks to a button dedicated to the feature.
Sound Quality? The sound quality is essentially unchanged from last year.
The rest of this review may look very similar to the XB31, since they are essentially the same speaker.
-= Sound Quality =-
You’re likely most interested in the sound quality of the Sony SRS-XB32. If you love bass, it definitely does not disappoint. Highs and mids come through clear and bass has some kick to it (more on that in a second). Streaming music from Apple Music and Pandora both sounded great, but the speaker does tend to over emphasize low frequencies and can sound “muddy” at time, especially with the “Extra Bass” feature on (which is enabled by default).
There is a dedicate “Live” button on the top of the unit for the “Live Sound” feature (this feature was somewhat hidden in last year’s model). When the LED light above the button is “white”, the feature is on. Sony states that the “Live Sound” feature will provide a more realistic, 3D experience with “festival vibes.” Well, I’m not sure about the festival vibes, but what I found is that it does is maintain the bass of the “Extra Bass” mode while increasing the volume and enhancing some of the mids. It definitely sounds good and I actually prefer it over the “Extra Bass” feature alone, so I’m glad they’ve added a dedicated button for it in 2019.
-= Features =-
Lights: This is one of my favorite features of the speakers, although some people may find it gimmicky. There is the outer ring that surrounds the speaker on the front and the sides that changes different colors. There are also two white LED “strobe” lights on either side. You can set the lights to dance with the music, set a more calming lighting effect or turn off the lights completely by using the Sony Music Center app. The lights really do add a bit of a party atmosphere and helps this speaker stand out from other brands. If you don’t like the lights, you can hold down the BATT/LIGHT button inside the cap on the rear side of the speaker for about 3 seconds.
Party Booster: You can add some sound effects to the music that you’re playing on the speaker by tapping it in different places. Depending where you smack it, you can add a snare scratch, kick drum or cowbell. The harder you hit it, the louder the sound. You can turn this feature on/off by holding the the volume + and – buttons for 3 seconds.
Rustproof, Waterproof, Dustproof: The IP67 rating means you can take it to the beach and not worry about salt water ruining the speaker. So you take the party virtually anywhere.
Wireless Party Chain: You can sync this speaker with other compatible models to play the same music simultaneously (but not in stereo sound). Works with SRS-XB22, SRS-XB32, SRS-XB21, SRS-XB31, SRS-XB41, SRS-XB20, SRS-XB30, SRS-XB40, GTK-XB60, GTK-XB90.
Stereo Mode: You can pair the SRS-XB32 with another exact SRS-XB32 model for stereo sound. Please note that the speaker must be another XB-32 for stereo sound (it will not work with earlier models like XB-31 and XB-30).
Micro USB charging input: My biggest complaint of 2017’s SRS-XB30 was that it used a proprietary charging cable. Both this year’s SRS-XB32 and last year’s SRS-XB31 solve that issue with a standard Micro USB input (although, USB-C would have maybe future-proofed this speaker a little more).
USB charging port: If your phone runs low on power, you can grab your phone’s charging cable and plug it into the full-sized USB port on this speaker. The speaker then serves as a power bank for your phone (but reduces the runtime of the speaker).
Phone and Siri support: This feature has come in handy while the speaker was poolside and my phone was tucked away in my bag. You can answer a call on the speaker by tapping the Play button. You can also access Siri or Google Assistant by holding down the Play button for about 3 seconds and you hear the activation sound. You then use the speaker’s built-in mic to talk to the caller or Siri.
-= Battery Life =-
The SRS-XB32 gives you up to 24 hours with the lights off and with the sound mode set to “Standard”. However, with the lights on and the Extra Bass feature enabled, you can expect more less than half of that. So definitely keep that in mind if you’re trying to plan an all-nighter.
You can check the battery status in the Sony Music Center app on by tapping the “BATT” button under the flap. Oddly, unlike many Bluetooth speaker, the battery status does not show in the status bar of iOS.
-= Summary =-
Overall, the Sony SRS-XB32 delivers great sound along with a great light show. If you already have last year's model (the XB31), then there is really no reason to upgrade as the changes seem to be cosmetic only. There is also no stereo pairing compatibility between the XB32 and XB31, although you can link the two models together to play non-stereo sound ("Wireless Party Chain").

I love it so far, I got it as a gift to myself lol. I love the app, it’s nice that I can change the light settings, I like the flashing lights for fun times but not so much when I’m using it in my room at night, so I love that theres options without. It’s also handy that you can change the sound settings on it. The bass is really nice, it’s never crunchy like I’m used to in my older speakers from other brands. I’m a fan of great sound and this has set a new bar for me. Thanks Best Buy and Sony!

Extra Bass, Lights, Feature Packed, Party Machine

Normally, a review of a Bluetooth speaker would be focused primarily on the sound quality, depth, ranges, and audio delivery. So, when I selected the Sony SRS XB-32 for a comprehensive review in exchange for the speaker, I was absolutely astounded by the numerous, multi-dimensional features the Sony Engineers designed into this baby. As an audiophile, who has built sound systems from the early 60's, I was impressed by the
sound delivery options packaged in this BT speaker. It is an interactive, feature packed, party machine with light shows, DJ effects, and customizable sound effects. WoW!
However, I am going to start with the sound quality since this is the most important reason why people buy speakers in the first place.
*** SOUND QUALITY ***
* Sound Quality - I love the dynamic, reverberating sound of this speaker with robust bass while I play a variety of all kinds of music genres. For the size of this portable speaker the sound reproduction is absolutely amazing.
* LDAC Codec – Sony has developed this codec, which handles three times more data then SBC and delivers CD quality to an LDAC device over BT. The XB-32 features SBC, ACC, and LDAC codecs. Your mobile device has to be compatible to deliver CD quality, High Resolution Audio (HRA) through this codec. Check your mobile device's specs to see if it is. If not, you will not be able to upgrade. Your device has to have the LDAC chipset to be compatible. Apple IOS devices support ACC, not LDAC. Apple claims their ACC codec is just as good as LDAC. I am not an expert at this controversy. However, my ears tell me Sony's LDAC is the superior codec.
* Multi-Dimensional Sound – The speaker sits at a 15 degree angle to project the Live Sound in Three D. The speaker doesn't care whether it is right-side up, standing on its side, or upside down. It projects phenomenal CD quality sound with rich bass.
* PRE-SET SOUND MODES:
* Standard - Hold Volume Down and Play for 3 seconds. Power LED turns Green.
* Extra Bass - Hold Volume Down and Play for 3 seconds, then the power Indicator LED turns white when activated. Repeat to turn Extra Bass OFF. Booming bass to keep my Grand Kids happy.
* Live Sound - Depress the Live Sound button on the Topside Controls. The LED will light up white. This actually turns ON the Extra Bass, slightly increases the volume, and brings up the mid-ranges from 500 Hz upwards towards 2 kHz. It is my very favorite setting. Vibrant sound with beefy bass and clear voice. Love it!
*** SPEAKER BUILD ***
* The XB32 has fabric on the front where the drivers are located. The rest of the unit is covered in a rubberized plastic to enable firm gripping around water, and, or, if it is held for various effects while dancing with it. My Grand Kids absolutely love this feature.
* Rustproof, Waterproof, and Dustproof - This speaker has an IP67 rating, which means I can take it to my pool, hot tub, the beach, or my boat, and not be concerned about water ruining the speaker. I can use this speaker just about any place I go. WooHoo!
* Dual 48mm speaker Units - (2 x 1.89" / 48 mm) with Mica reinforced cellular speaker cones. They produce rich, dynamic sounds at the mid-ranges and robust bass.
* TOPSIDE CONTROLS –FROM RIGHT TO LEFT:
* Power Button with indicator LED and PAIRING button.
* BLUETOOTH indicator.
* -/+ (volume) buttons.
* Play/Call Button. I can receive phone calls through this speaker and make them using SIRI. Android phones can use their voice assistant to do the same.
* LIVE button with indicator – LED is white when activated.
* N-mark – For NFC pairing.
* BACK OF UNIT BEHIND WATERPROOF COVER:
* ADD (Speaker Add) button with indicator – I can also use the Sony Music App to add group speakers that are compatible (other Sony speakers).
* RESET button.
* AUDIO IN jack – 3.5 mm to connect to 'controlling' device like amp receiver, CD player, turntable, and, or Smart TV to use as auxiliary sound speaker. NOTE: When this jack is used the connecting device controls the volume and sound delivery and output. Topside controls will not work.
* CHARGE indicator – If 'Voice Activation' is selected when depressed, I will hear 70% or more: “Battery fully charged” - - 50% or more: “Battery about 70%” - - 20% or more: “Battery about 50%” - - 10% or more: “Battery about 20%” - - Less than 10%: “Please charge”.
* DC IN 5V jack – Need A/C adapter (5V) to charge this speaker. It took me approximately 2 hours to fully charge. It is designed to last approximately 24 hours on a single charge. However, doesn't include powering the lighting effects.
* DC OUT ONLY port (USB) – I can charge my mobile smart phone from this port.
* WPC (Wireless Party Chain) button with indicator – can chain up to 100 like speakers.
* BATT/LIGHT Button – To manually turn the lighting ON or OFF depress the button for about 3 seconds, the lighting function turns either ON or OFF again.
*** Sony Music App ***
* The Sony Music App can be downloaded for FREE at the Apple App Store or Google Play stores. NOTE- The Fiestable App is included in the Sony Music Center App
* Group With Other Speakers - Control multiple compatible speakers (up to 100) using the Wireless Party Chain or select the Speaker Add function.
* Access your own personal Music Library (Need to give App permission to access).
* Access directly to Pandora, Tunein Radio, etc. directly from within the App (If installed on your Smartphone).
* Access the various Illumination, Lighting Modes and select from Rave, Chill, Hot, Cool, Strobe, Calm Magenta, Calm Cyan, Calm Lime, Calm Cinnabar, Calm Daylight, Calm Light Bulb, and Lights 'OFF' and Random Flash 'OFF'.
* Under 'Settings' – You have a multitude of options for Sound, Illumination, Power Options, Bluetooth Settings, System, and Party Booster.
* Under 'Sound Mode' – You can choose the 'Preset Mode', which is Standard, Extra Bass, or * Live Sound. You can also choose BASS/MID/TRE, which allows you to customize the levels of Bass, Middle, and Treble to your own personal preferences. Change the sound effects through the various DJ EFFECT settings, which allow you to adjust the volume of the effects for personal customization, or shut all DJ Effects OFF. How cool is that?
* Additional Sound Settings – Activate Clear Audio (Sony's recommended sound setting) and adding Extra Bass if you so desire (Grand Kids Love this setting).
* System - Configure the various settings for the system.
* Check the battery's power levels.
* Update the software of the speaker.
*** Fiestable App ***
* DJ Control allows you to completely customize your music genres using Isolator, Notch, Noise, and Jet. My Grand Kids can make these effects in sync with the music and lighting – absolutely entertaining. In DJ mode you can add Drums, Scratch, Audience, Voice (Cool Sayings), Phaser, Reggaehorn, and Rhythm by simply tapping or using your finger swirling around on a circle on the pad of your Smartphone. This App feature is absolutely mind-boggling and pure FUN. The more I use it, the more I love it. And, of course, you can turn the DJ effects 'OFF' any time.
* Motion Control is another fascinating feature, which allows you to control DJ and Illumination effects with a side motion, back and forth, or swivel of your Smart Phone. My Grand Kids love this motion control and are quite good at it.
* Illumination Controls – Yet, another amazing feature, which you control from the pad of your Smartphone. You can change, blend, and even customize the LED color displays on the speaker by simply moving you finger around the color circle on the pad of your Smartphone.
* There is a Party Flash feature, which allows you to blink the LED lights by tapping the pad of your Smartphone as fast or slow as you wish, and, the lights react, accordingly.
*** Conclusion ***
This Sony XB-32 is a terrific speaker just for its high-octane bass and vibrant sound quality. However, it is an interactive, feature packed, entertainment and party machine. My Grand Kids love this speaker and dance with it motioning the lighting and tapping all four sides for the drumming sounds. It is very amusing watching them have so much FUN with this little devil. YooHoo! it has become one of the main reasons they visit me so often. Now, I know what to get for Birthdays, and, or Christmas. I highly recommend this Sony SRS XB-32 BT Speaker. Sony has engineered this baby for outstanding, portable entertainment. It is the perfect speaker for outdoors and at any gathering of family and friends. Buy one, you won't be disappointed.

Upon receiving the Sony SRS-XB32, right away you notice that it is very well packaged. After getting a hold of the speaker from inside the box it really feels of great built quality. It’s no wonder that the speaker is Waterproof and Dust proof. In addition, the speaker is salt water resistant, which if you go to the beach often like myself, it’s pleasing to know that salt will not damage or deteriorate the outer speaker casing.
Once I turned on the speaker it instantly makes the Bluetooth discoverable. Connecting the speaker with my smart phone via Bluetooth was a breeze, you can also connect it using the NFC. I was quite impressed that such a small speaker produced great quality sounds even at the highest volume setting. What is very noticeable is the Live sound feature that creates a three dimensional sound. It really does create a wider field of sound, which comes to good use with large crowd. The bass was not the greatest I expected more but, for a small water proof speaker such as this one it was feasible.
The speaker comes with a feature called Party Booster where, once enabled, you can tap the speaker to create sound effects and also different light effects. I personally did not find the feature useful as I thought that I would end up damaging the speaker in the long run. The speaker has standard colorful lights, which can be turned on and off, that are pretty cool if you use the speaker in a night setting. Using the Fiestable app you can control the light by changing the colors using your smart phone. The app itself is simple to use but, is kind of pointless that you have to hold down on the color to keep the speaker lit up, once you let go the light will turn off, hope this gets changed with an update. Another cool feature is to see the lights react to the current genre/beat of the current music playing.
This speaker can also be connected up to 100 other Sony speakers, or you can get a pair of these and make it a stereo. Behind the speaker under a closed cover you have a USB A connector that is used to charge other devises and a micro USB to charge the speaker, I honestly don’t know why they didn’t use USBC instead which can charge at faster rate. There is also a 3.5mm stereo jack for audio input. On the top of the speaker you have the control buttons, there you can power on speaker, pause/play, Live sound and control the volume.
Very important feature of the speaker is the battery power which is rated to last 24 hours with the lights off. This is very relieving to know that you don’t have to worry about charging it while at an extended pool party, BBQ gathering or just hanging out. If you are worried of your cell phone or other battery powered accessory running low on juice, no problem just plug it to the speaker, be advise that, doing that it will deplete the speaker battery power. Overall is a great product and great built quality with excellent sound, I would definitely recommend it. In the box it comes with the speaker, manual and USB cable, unfortunately it does not include a brick but you can use your phone charger.
Pros:
Portability
Sound
Battery Power
Built Quality
Cons:
No USBC

I needed a way to play my iPod rather than using earbuds & this is perfect! I have recently moved into a RV & enjoy playing my music when I’m in the kitchen working & when I used my earbuds I kept getting the wires hung on the cabinet knobs or afraid one of the earbuds would fall in the water in the sink. This works perfectly for me!

Hi Cilantro, we're glad you like the sound quality of our product. The SRS-XB32 has 2 sound modes, the EXTRA BASS feature that enhances every beat, and the LIVE SOUND mode which creates a three-dimensional sound experience (think outdoor live concert). You can toggle those with the button on top of the XB32. If you use the Sony Music Center App, you will find even more sound adjustments for tuning the speakers to your liking. I also recommend placing the 2 paired speakers into “stereo” mode for true left/right channel separation. Thank you for choosing SONY. ~Earl

Sony Bluetooth speaker review:
Pros:
- Fun with colorful and flashing lighting that matches songs (see photo)
- Can be LOUD (but very clear with no distortion)
- Crystal clear voices with "live" mode
- east to use
- waterproof, dust proof, sand proof, etc!
- does not "feel" cheap. It has good weight to it
- LONG battery life
- Ability to charge phone
- audio jack :-)
Cons:
- No USB type c to charge speaker
Notes: I found out it works best with it's back directly against a wall so that the Bass can reverberate and provide better acoustics.
Sony is usually one of my top 3 favorite sound brands so you can count on them to make quality speakers.
I'd recommend, especially because the battery life is great and that's the drawback of most speakers this size.

Purchased the XB32 to pair with my XB30 for stereo & or chained audio, figuring same brand, same series. I've tried over & over but they won't connect. When either of these is hooked to a music source & you go to connect with the other, the 1st one stops playing & 2nd starts, no matter which one you do 1st. Tried forums, you tube advice, nothing works. They do sound great individually but... I would've bought another XB30 but not available on Best Buy anymore.
