My wife was tired of using game systems (PS3/PS4) for playing movies in the living room and asked that I buy a dedicated BluRay player. It seemed short-sighted at this point to buy an HD BluRay player when 4K players were starting to come down in price. Picked this one up on sale for $150 and I am really happy with it.

Plays ALMOST anything you throw at it and looks and sounds great doing it. I’ve had no trouble with any 4K UHD Blu-Ray discs, Region A Blu-Ray Discs, SACD’s, Regiom 1 DVD’s, and DVD-Audio discs, as well as discs and USB storage devices with self-burned content and there may not seem to be a huge library of streaming apps available on the surface, but once you enter the Opera TV app (the name will change to Vewd TV after you update to the latest firmware), you’ll find quite a a bit of free and even some less commonly found on OTT boxes subscription streaming content. The caveat about will play ALMOST anything you throw at it applies to a specific situation. Currently several deluxe multi-disc box sets of previously released CD’s are coming out of the UK & Germany. The CD’s of course are no problem, but be sure that you know if the DVD disc (they’re often 2CD+1 DVD book-bound sets) is NTSC format (over 90% are - they are well-aware that these sets are exported to North America & Japan). I have yet to see one that is not Region 0, that is not the impediment. ALL Sony players destined for NTSC markets will not play PAL format discs, even if they are Region 0. I can verify this as I have a multi-standard (PAL.& NTSC) TV abd have owned several domestic Sony DVD & Blu-Ray players and they all spit out PAL format discs that are Region 0. This will only be a concern to a small percentage of buyers, so for the vast majority I couldn’t recommend this player more highly, and it has come down in price significantly since I bought it when it first came out (and was a real challenge to find!).

It does everything I need. Great menu, picture, price. Read a bunch of reviews and went with this one instead of the LG even though I have a LG 4K TV. Also looked at XBox but so glad I didn't buy. Probably the best option for under $300.

The Sony UBP-X800 DVD Smart 4K HD player was as good as expected but I was hoping for a much better remote control. The performance and quality was top notch (5-star) but the ease of use and cheap remote are 3 star and -1 star respectively. I'll get a different make next time with better integration to other vendors.

I bought this to replace my other Sony Blu Ray player and this one does a fantastic job. It made my older DVDs look like they were Blu Ray. I lucked out and bought it during the Black Friday sale and it's worth what I paid for it.

I've had my 4k tv for two years but never had an actual 4k player until now. It makes a huge difference. The 4k UHD bluray movies look amazing. Also, I can now stream 4k from Netflix, Youtube, etc and enjoy that. Love this so far

This 4K Blu Ray player plays 4k movies and up-scales blu-ray movies to look amazing, better than other players I've seen. I had the geek squad set up the TV and player so everything was set up correctly so my movies look awesome.

Picture quality and ease of use are what you would expect with a Sony product. It works seamlessly with a Sony 4K TV. Only problem was the internet connection which took several tries to get right.

originally bought the philips 4k player and it was just kinda meh in my opinion soooo glad i replaced it with the sony! Great picture and sound but i hate this trend of no front lcd display. Only issues ive had are the occasional freeze and for some reason deadpool will not play in my machine ive bought 2 different copies and they both wont load just goes back to the main screen really bummed about that since its like my fav movie, the deadpool icon on the main screen has a little folder in it which ive noticed none of my other 4k movies does anyone have any idea what could be the problem? i have more than 20 4k movies so im wondering if my local best buy just had a bad batch of deadpools maybe

This Sony bluray player is easy to setup and the quality of the audio and video are fantastic. I have it connected to my Sony Bravia 65" 4K and the result is great. I can control the player functions by the TV commands.

The quality of ease of use of this player is great. Although I’m not a fan of the remote, I’m not a fan of most factory remotes but it’s still easy to use and not complicated. The height is more than I wish it to be, especially for keeping it under a flat panel tele, but I just had to relocate.

Very well made, excellent picture and sound. I have my portable hard drive connected to the USB port and it plays my movies perfectly. However, the player has become unresponsive several times. Never during playback, only when the unit has been turned off and won't turn back on. I eventually plugged it into a power strip so I can easily turn it off and back on.

The Sony UBP-X800 is an outstanding universal 4K disc player for the price. In fact, there is really nothing out there that can compete unless you go for the more expensive Oppo units. This unit will play almost any disc out there, including 4K, SACD and DVD-A.
The Picture is outstanding as Sony DVD players usually are but it takes some time setting up properly to get the best that this unit is capable of.
The main draw backs, for me, is the lack of any analog outs since I have a more traditional integrated amplifier and that I was having wireless issues with my unit. The problem wasn't my router as my Sony Smart TV and Amazon Fire TV streamed fine but this Sony unit would keep freezing up on me when I streamed through it.
I took it back, thinking that it was just a bad unit but the replacement unit did the same thing in the same exact way. That is a shame because the streaming picture/sound seemed to be a little better through the UBP-X800 then it is on my Sony Smart TV and Amazon Fire.

This is terrific player and one of the best available on the market for its price point. I have watched some 4K movies on it already and it looked awesome! Connecting it to apps is also easy and user friendly.

First thing I noticed about the product out of the box was it’s heavy weight, it feels and looks well made and I love its sleek simplistic look.
I have a Sony 55inch 4k hdr which btw I absolutely love, so it seemed a natural progression to upgrade my Blu-ray player. First movie I watched was Transformers Last Knight, regular blu ray the picture was flawless, Then. I watched Wonder Woman on 4K, the pic was also great ,however, nothing better then the regular blu ray. I am one of the anti letter box people and here’s where the player loses a star...I don’t care about how the director intended it,give me the choice of stretching if I want since I am paying for it. For some reason the player will let me do a full screen with regular Blu-ray but not 4K. When I stretched Transformers it still looked great and not distorted, all I miss is a little inconsequential scenery. Anyway, I do like the player a lot and do recommend it. I’ll just buy regular Blu-ray and watch it the way I like..
