The HDR feature on this player turns off several times when playing a movie or anything else.
Essentially you can't watch a movie. You are using your remote only. Of course the video and audio can't be surpassed by any other brand, but you can't relax and watch o good movie. Guess I
have for the update.

Excellent universal player with analog outputs

I purchased this player because it plays most hi end spinning media including SACD audio, DVD Audio, CDs, DVDs, Bluray and 4K Ultra Bluray. I have a McIntosh SACD player in the same system so it was easy to compare SACD and CD sound quality. So, what are the observations? The McIntosh does have quite a different sound than the Sony but both are very good. The Sony sound stage is very transparent with an almost delicate reproduction of music and acoustic detail. The McIntosh throws a bigger sound stage (wider and deeper) with more dynamics and bass with more slam and articulation and a smooth frequency response. That said the Sony is very clean sounding with no harshness. The analog outputs on the Sony are quite good, but the McIntosh is better. That said, the MC sold for about $6,000 vs $499. The video on the Sony is excellent. The Sony does a great job on 4K videos and the upsampling of BluRay and DVDs make the older media look far better than their native formats. Setup of the Sony player is easy and so far there have been no issues. I love my McIntosh but I also like the Sony. It represents a good value for a universal player.

If you have the Sony x800 youll find this pretty much is the same thing. Image wise anyways. Solid build. Premium feel. Check out this video if you haven't already https://youtu.be/RuyPrkWv8EU

Really good Universal Player

So I need a 4k player that supports SACD and DVD Audio formats, plays 4k discs and offers great picture and sound quality. (like an Oppo?). I wouldn't have considered a Sony player ordinarily, but this does all that and does it pretty well. I was going to buy the newer 1100 model, but found this as an open box marked down.
I'm pleasantly surprised at how capable this machine is. I think I'm going to sell my Marantz universal player (no 4k)....because Sony's sacd sounds at least as good. In fact, I'm running sacd through the "audio only" HDMI output and so far it's outperformed my Marantz.
Good show Sony and thank you for continuing to support SACD and DVD Audio. Bravo.

Poor Disk load & Disk recognition

Expected good things from this player with noted build quality and high cost. Player would not recognize disks in the tray be they older DVD-R 's or brand new Blu-rays. On rare occasion when disk finally did load after up to 3 minute load times, player would hang up. Returned the player to BB for refund. Did not want to go through pains again on a replacement unit. Went with a Yamaha BD-S681 player instead (non-BB purchase) and no problems so far.

No HBO app

This player has a ton going for it- plays all sorts of formats, audio and video both, including SACD, BR, CD, DVD etc... it has several digital outputs so you can run hdmi to your TV and then optical to an amp/other.
However, I have a PS4 and a Ruku Ultra and needed to play CDs, which the PlayStation curiously doesn't support. I thought this was a great opportunity to consolidate devices. PS4 for games, get rid of the Roku, add this player. Problem is, Sony has beef with HBO and none of their players that I have found support HBO streaming. Not the biggest deal but for a $500 player, it's sort of a glaring omission. And since Game of Thrones is the best TV show ever, I sort of need that feature.
PS4 = no CD support
X1000es = no HBO
Me = disappointed and puzzled
