I’ve owned these earbuds for over two years now, these are a great pair of earbuds, however I have one issue with them. Pros: - Sound quality is fantastic, anc and transparency mode work great! - Battery life is pretty decent, I mainly use them at home so I’ve never had any issues with that. It also charges really quickly! - Small case, very easy to carry around anywhere. Cons: - After two years of owning these earbuds, I’ve been having a constant connectivity issue. I’m not sure if it’s just a problem with iPhone but it takes me multiple tries to get these earbuds to connect to my phone. It’s an everyday issue and it’s very frustrating. - After wearing the earbuds for I’d say an hour or so, they start to hurt the ear and I have to readjust the earbuds. It’s not a major issue to me but it’s something I wanted to mention

Excellent sound. Excellent batter life. Very user friendly phone app and ability to tweak sound settings, especially bass and equalizer settings. Got to have some good bass, but would like lower bass frequency's. They are definitely loud enough to use while I run my SCAG Zero Turn mower, the main reason I bought them. The clarity of sound during phone calls is excellent. Somewhat of an inclined learning curve on touch controls while buds are in place. Some individuals have issues with ear bud foam pads. That is certainly dependent upon the couture of your external acoustic meatus, or ear hole. Three different sizes should alleviate that. But other manufacturers have the same issue, based on my diligent research before buying these. Let's just hope the current "exploding battery" issue does not affect these. It seems to be centered on European models and Sony should address this issue immediately; they ARE replacing some batteries and updating the firmware to 1.6.2. That update seems to reduce battery life, which will reduce the "go to" ear buds overall No. "1" rating on many sites, CNET et al.

I'm so happy with the purchase. Everything about these headphones you read from other reviews is true. The noise canceling is amazing. I own and operate commercial and residential carpet and cleaning services. Finding a comfortable set of headphones has been hard being that I have to have in my ear the entire day. I decided to purchase these headphones based on the reviews. All I can say is I'm so happy I purchased them. They are beyond comfortable. I never hear any of the machines EVER. I would find myself getting headaches with other headphones but not with these. Other brands would always fall out of my ear. I have small earlobes, and other products made my ears hurt. Not these they are beyond comfortable with foam to shape in my earlobes. And the battery life is amazing! I promise you I will never switch to another company. I'm a lifetime customer. I highly recommend them it's worth the money.

If you wear your headphones regularly then these are worth the cost. The noise cancelling is impressive and the sound quality paired with the app is very customizable and high quality. When these headphones eventually die I will buy another pair of whatever the next model is. They don't stay in during a run very well, but that might just be me.

I bought these XM-4 today after reading and believing all the hype from the reviews. I am RETURNING them tomorrow, I previously bought the Jabra Elite 85T and can attest the superiority of those in sound and these are very clear when talking as well. I found the Sony to be good earbuds but there is NO WAY you can wear them for long periods of time. The Jabra Elite 85t are not only comfortable, but they are low profile, less bulky, sound amazingly well balanced. I don't mind that they last less in terms of time usage. In addition, the Jabra app is incredibly well designed. Prior to this, I have never owned a Jabra product or knew about them. I can definitely say that I am a fan from now on. Thank you Jabra.

BEST true wireless for Android! RIP Bose

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

I'm writing this as an Android user, so if you value the Apple ecosystem and multi device connectivity, then these aren't for you. I've also never owned any Airpods to compare. I will compare these to Bose Quiet Comfort earbuds because I own them and secondly, because they are the same price. Sony obviously has their sights set on Bose. The short story is that the Bose are going to be returned and these will be my daily drivers. Read on if you want more details... I purchased the Bose a month ago, so I know the benchmark that Bose set for Active Noise Canceling (ANC) in an earbud. The ANC on the Sony's is excellent and very close to Bose quality. ANC and Mic quality are the two categories Bose wins on, but overall these are superior in every other way mainly because of how feature packed these are. Three huge advantages over Bose: First and most importantly, the sound quality exceeds Bose. A big reason why is the ability to adjust the equalizer in the App to preset settings or save your own custom equalizer settings. These are also the first earbuds to support Hi Res Audio via Sony's proprietary codec, LDAC. If you have an Android phone (sorry iPhone) then you can turn this codec on via the Android Developer Settings (I can confirm that Galaxy S10+ supports LDAC). You can tell the difference LDAC makes to your music. These also support 360 audio (with Tidal and Deezer), which I have not tested, but its there if that is important to you. Second, the design of the Sony's are better. They are sleeker fit than the Bose. The Sony case is ALOT smaller and can fit in the weird front jean pocket (which now serves a purpose). Just look at the picture, the Sony's win hands down when it comes to design. Third, is Sony's Speak to Chat feature that works very well. The earbuds will automatically detect you talking and pause the music so you can carry on a conversation with someone without having to take out the buds. This feature is completely absent from Bose. More Pros: -Robust App with a ton more features than Bose -Better Battery life -Ability to go backwards on tracks (Bose hasn't figured out how to do that yet) -Ability to locate the buds if you misplace them via Google's Find Device App Cons: -The foam tips take some getting used to (replaced mine with 3rd party silicon tips) -No ability to adjust the level of ANC like the Bose -No multipoint Bluetooth connection To sum it up, Sony has now set the bar very high. You won't be disappointed.

Sound quality. extensively great.. having the adjustable EQ, makes it so much better to enjoy music that you love. the premium sound that Sony offers is second to none and if you are into music and are keen on the sound quality, than this is your go to. Call..with regards to call, I have experienced drop in sound quality in comparison with others. There are tons of other inexpensive earbuds who offer better call quality than this. Sound modes.. the ANC, I hardly ever use because they seal in your ear well enough that ANC, in my case, is almost obsolete. I Battery life… This is the flagship of any earbuds… I’ve worn these for 10-12 hours some days, and with the sound mode in Off, they did not die or reach “low battery”.. I had them at 60% battery life one day, and 8 hours later the voice prompt finally said “low battery” and that was at 20% battery left in both earbuds. They do last a very long time. Mind you I have mixed usage.. music, movies, phone calls/etc, and they still have outlasted any other pair I’ve had. I cannot speak for battery length in ANC/transparency mode, but I can say that they do outlast anything. Tap control… be weary, that while they are functional, you have to tap the earbuds just right for them to recognize the functions you wish to have them perform. They seem to be proprietary to the center of the earbud, as I’ve tried tapping just outside the center and nothing happened. This may be cumbersome to a lot of people who like having tap controls.. I barely use them except to change sound modes, and play/pause whatever I’m listening to or watching at the time. Overall, if you’re a sound guy, you want top of the line ANC, and a superior battery life and can live with small discomforts.. I highly recommend these for you and they will not disappoint.

It's no real secret that a pair of earphones needs to fit extremely well and be completely sealed in your ears. Yet somehow on these very expensive Sony flagships, they only include three foam ear tip sets small medium and large. None of them fit my ears. I seriously considered returning these because they just weren't performing well. Without a good seal there is almost no bass and the high end features like noise cancellation and ambient sound certainly don't work at all the way they're supposed to. Also the buds are more likely to fall out if they're not well fitted. Would it kill you Sony to include some extra large and extra small tips as well as some regular rubber flange type tips? These bits cost next to nothing! It's ridiculous to think that there are only three sizes of ears out there. I doubt if anyone would return these if they could get them to fit in their ears well. I ended up trying some rubber flanges from some other extremely cheap earbuds I have and those tips fit far better than anything Sony included. Now, when you get a good seal in your ears these do some nice things. The noise cancellation works very well on low end rumbling rustling sounds. It doesn't work very well on high pitch sounds but the sealed ear tips block most of that anyway. What's really interesting is the ambient mode, where it continues to block some of that low frequency noise and allows you to hear things going on around you. You could wear them this way all day long and talk to people in be safe outside in traffic, and they still sound good on music. One big frustration is the continued lack of multipoint Bluetooth on these, Even though Sony announced months ago that they would bring the feature. Most of us have multiple devices we switch to and multi-point would be a huge selling point, especially on these extremely expensive units in 2023. I for one am listening to these on my S22 phone but typing this on my Samsung tablet. Another gripe is the touch control setup You can change the attributes of left and right bud taps separately but you can't mix and match features. So for instance if you want to control volume, switch between ambient\noise reduction, use Google Assistant, and also use play\pause you cannot do all those things. Even though there are more than enough touch combinations to do probably 8 things at once if you wanted to. There is a convenient widget on Android but you can't assign what the widget can do. You can see what the battery levels are turn adaptive sound control on or off and switch equalizer settings, none of which I find useful. Finally I have to say that all the requests to sign in and sign up for stuff makes setting up these things in the software a much much longer and more tedious process than it ought to be. I recently bought a $16 pair of wireless earbuds for my son and they sound nearly as good as these Sony's, have simple rubber ear tips that fit me, seal up and block a lot of sound without fancy noise reduction, and have volume control and play pause. When I think that I could buy like 15 SETS like that for the cost of the Sony's I think maybe I'm kind of insane for keeping them. Plus I'm having to shell out for some aftermarket ear tips that cost about the same amount of money as these cheap earbuds all in! Yoiks.

i ArtInvent, We regret to hear that none of the supplied ear tips fit. This is definitely not the experience we'd like you to have and we apologize for the inconvenience. These come with different sizes of ear tips from S, M, and L. To be more comfortable and to have the best noise canceling experience, we highly recommend changing the earbud tips to ones that fit more snugly in your ears. We also have a recommended way of wearing these headphones. When wearing them, adjust the fit of the headset to your ears. Twist the headset unit to fit it snugly into the ear canal, and adjust the positioning of the headset unit until it fits comfortably. Wait for about 10 seconds for the earbud tip shape to stabilize.

Great earbuds they are durable I take them to work a lot I logged in more then 670hrs with them good battery life the noise canceling is great I wish the ambient sound was a little louder but it gets the job done I also love the way they sound I mess with the app a lot the sound settings that are the most pleasing for me is bright or excited another thing that I noticed is sometimes the touch pad on the earbuds won’t register sometimes but I learned just to disconnect them and reconnect and that fixes the problem for me luckily it doesn’t happen to often for me they fit in my ears pretty good as well never had a problem with them falling out I use the medium ear tips they seem to fit the best for me

Amazing sound. The bass is deep, but there’s room for improvement. If you use the sony app to link to your buds, change the equalizer to “Excited” for a good mixture of vocals and bass. You can also boost the bass even more, but it wont have that “boom” effect. The noise cancelling is super amazing on these mid size buds. I was using an electric greenworks 1800psi pressure washer and it blocked the sound very good. The only problem i personally have is the tips. They care comfy, but are made out of foam. If i leave them in my ears for long periods of time it starts hurting the inside of my ear. Maybe because i have small ears i dunno. If i use the small tips they fall, if i use the medium they fit great but hurt after a while. I ordered some plastic ear tips and work great but they slip out due to the weight so i have to stick with the ones that came with. If they break, they have instructions on how to order more. They won’t last forever.

Hi Alan, Thanks for your feedback and insights. Sony values the opinions of customers and is always striving to provide the best experience possible.  Different sizes of earbud tips are supplied so that you can achieve the maximum effects of the earbuds. Ear canals vary in size from person to person, and can also vary in size from the left to the right sides. To keep the headphones from falling out, please select the right size earbud tips. We also recommend wearing the earbuds properly.
Gently pull up on the top of your ears, put the earbud tips in your ear canal, and then twist the earbuds into place. This makes sure the earbuds are firmly in the ear canal.

You may also be experiencing a symptom called listener fatigue. That is where your eardrums work hard to manage the volume that flows through your ear canal. The louder the volume, the bigger the strain on your eardrums, which then causes the feeling of fatigue.
Note: Try lowering the volume or take a break from wearing them for a while.

We designed these headphones to provide incredible audio performance and take noise cancellation to the next level. You can enjoy crystal clear call quality, even in noisy environments and our speak-to-chat technology automatically reduces volume during conversation. Plus, you can get 8 hour long battery with noise canceling, IPX4 water resistance and easy wireless charging. Thank you for choosing Sony! Erin Sony_US

First of all, I'd like to mention the ANC/passive isolation capabilities of these are absolutely top-tier and at the moment; unbeatable. Now on to sound quality, Download the Sony app and keep the EQ to "off" but play around with all of the other setting and features, because there are alot of those. Then I'd recommend getting Wavelet, and using the EQ and bass Tuner to just... Blow your mind away. Bone rattling bass, sparkly highs, and full mids; these will do them all with zero hint of distortion (given you use the compressor if you boost above 3db). Factory timing is fairly flat with an obvious focus on low and mid frequencies, but after some tuning you'll get whatever sound you're looking for!! Now on to fit, these contain foam eartips that provide unmatched isolation and fit, but can get a bit fatiguing after 2 or so hours. PEOPLE WITH SMALL EARS AVOID THESE!!! Sure, they will fit, but you need to be able to create a tight seal with the earbuds sitting flush inside your ear, people with very small ears will not be able to fit them as they need to, so bass and ANC performance will suffer. If you have normal, or large ears, they create an incredibly secure and almost ingenious fit with the way they fit snug getting almost gripped by that flappy part in front of your ear canal. As far as features go, these are absolutely the most feature rich on the market, with options like 20-step passive mode, talk-to-chat, and the EQ (though it doesn't do much, set it to off, and use Wavelet; other eq's tend to have distortion so I recommend Wavelet)

Excellent Battery Life. Excellent Sound. Case Size is Perfect. Extremely Customizable (Sound-Wise). Slightly Bulky in Appearance and Visually Un-Appealing When Worn. Audio Options for Sound are Over-Engineered (Making Practical Use Difficult). These were made for someone trying to get the effect of "over the head" style headphones without the bulk. Not for someone who wants high quality, yet practical earbuds. Examples: - Cannot use the left bud without using the right. - Touching the headphone is not mute functional, it is for changing sound-style options. - The picture to your right on Desktop is about 60% of the average ear.

Hello all, I purchased these after owning both models of the Jaybird vista's for a few years and i am loving them even with the minor imperfections. Pros: • great sound and customizable equalization. • app is easy to navigate • noise cancellation is great not excellent • battery life has been great so far better than the jaybirds • i like that the earbuds are smart and smoothly transition from anything thing you are listening to Youtube, music player, netflix, bluetooth in your vehicle and etc no hiccups Cons: • Not fully water resistant! Not submersible in water. However, sweat is okay or rain drops and splasges etc • ear tips wear quickly and be careful when cleaning them. I bought the other tips in picture and love it • no volume control but sounds good i wonder if this can be tweaked in an update to firmware in the app ...hmmm • light weight but at first kinda hurts ear canals but in time pain goes and the buds feel good. In all I prefer them to the jaybirds and am glad i changed There are more improvements sony could make. But, i am satisfied with my purchase.

The product is well built with great fit and finish. The package comes in totally recycled paper finish. Too easy to setup. Just install the Headphones app and it will guide you for the rest. Noice cancellation is superb with awesome sound quality. The memory foam tips works wonder in fit to the ear canal and provide good noise isolation from your surroundings. Battery backup is stellar and very close to what is officially claimed. As of now, it is nothing but the best TWS that you can get. As it works great on both Android and iOS. Ofcourse it's at a pricier end (25k official price) where I would recommend you to go with its big brother. But got it in freedom sale with too good a price to miss. So fully satisfied and happy with the purchase. Grab the "early launch" deal before it goes away. You won't regret it.

Sony makes the best wireless earbuds! I’ve tried Apple, Bose and Beats but they just didn’t seem to fit my needs or my ears. I guess I have weird shaped ears because I cannot keep any of those brands in my ear. I can always hear outside noise leaking in and they seem to just slide out after wearing them for more than 10 minutes. The sound just doesn’t sound as rich and the base isn’t deep enough to feel the music. So, I found the Sony WF-SP800N ear buds and they were exactly what I was looking for. The ear hooks kept the earbuds in my ears for hours, the battery lasted longer than my wear time and the sound quality is just the best. I loved them so much, that I wanted to buy a second pair. Unfortunately, they were completely sold out. That’s when I found that Sony came out with the WF-1000XM4. I was nervous to buy them at first because they don’t have the ear hooks like the sport version. But I’m so glad I went ahead and ordered a pair. They are so comfortable! I don’t have any issues with them falling out and the sound quality is even better! I personally like the memory foam pieces, but I also got a silicone ear piece to see if they would work just as well. And they do! As long as you know your fit, you can get a perfect seal using either the provided memory foam pieces or silicone. Do your research on what you want in your earbuds, because some brands are better at different features. If you want earbuds that are comfortable, long battery life, amazing noise cancellation and the best sound quality for music, then stop looking because these are the perfect earbuds!!! **added note: I just wanted to share pictures on how tiny the case is! I am just astonished with how tiny the case. The blue case is the WF-SP800N earbuds and the teeny tiny cream case is the WF-1000XM4 earbuds. Definitely makes it easier to carry in a pocket or smaller purse.

I've been using them for about a month now. The buds take a little to get used to, like most earbuds do. It does come with 3 different sizes. They are fragile so be careful when cleaning them. They rip easily. The sound quality is fantastic. The ambient noise and noise cancelling functions actually show a huge difference. Even phone calls are crystal clear. The battery life has been amazing so far. I don't wear the buds all day but usually 2-3 times a day for 2-3 hours at a time. The battery lasted me a good couple days before the case needed to be charged, then 6+ hours before the earbuds died. It charges exceptionally quick as well. My previous headphones took 5+ hours to completely charge to 100%. These only took about 2 hours to completely charge the case and headphones. The buttons are simple to remember, and an instruction pamphlet is included. Only con I can think of is having to download an app to connect the headphones. It does give you access to a couple more things but nothing major enough to require an app to be installed permanently.

I own Airpod Pros, Bose QC35II, Sony Wh 1000 xm4, Samsung Galaxy Buds Live and the Sony Wf 1000 xm3). I have not used any other earbuds since I bought these. Noise canceling is fantastic - it is noticeably better than Airpod Pro which I ditched for this pair. Sound quality is audiophile quality to the extent that is possible in earbuds. Battery life is very good as well. I have used this on conference calls or hours with noise canceling on full and no battery issues. The case is so much smaller than the last iteration, and comparable to the Airpods pro case. This also has a feature that reduces the noise from winds that get amplified by the noise canceling. I can't use any other noise canceling headphones or earbuds in windy conditions but this one is usable on a windy day in Midtown New York. The wf 1000 xm3 had some issues with connectivity. This iteration has no problem whatsoever. Easy to pair and haven't bothered with it since. The earbuds fit in the early pretty securely. It has not fallen off even when running and I have not had an instance where it felt it would come off. I can wear it for hours at a time with no discomfort. When I did wear this for 6 straight hours, I did notice the discomfort once I took them off. Performance during calls are good. Even on calls in midtown Manhattan, the person on the other end remarked that there was hardly any background noise (until an ambulance passed right by). Not much in terms of cons. It is expe size, although I feel it is worth the price to protect my hearing. When using this for phone calls, the noise canceling for some reason gets softer, but it still drowns out a lot of noise. Also, you need to get a good seal of the ear tips to get the Great noise canceling. It took me a few days of use to get it right on a consistent basis. You can only connect to one device at a time. Would be nice if Sony figured that one out. My Bose cans can connect to two at a time. And the Sony headphone app is mediocre as usual. I have been using these for several weeks now - works great in the NYC subway, biking outdoors and just walking around. Love them and highly recommend them.

Simply put: The best earphones I've ever used for music. It has the best noise cancelling you'll find outside of airpods. It sounds amazing with sound profiles that can be adjusted to suite you. Great battery life with a wirelessly rechargeable case. The cons: They are big, meaning they'll be uncomfortable and heavy for people with small ears. The microphone sucks, so forget about taking phone calls with them.

Great pair of in ear headphones. The sound quality and noise cancelling is on par with some of the best competitors, namely the apple airpods pro. When I first got the headphones I paid the premium of a new product and I was happy with my purchase. But eventually there was an issue with the software on the headphones that caused them to overheat and drain battery life in about 1 hour. I could only use one headphone at a time because the left one got too hot in my ear. To resolve this I had to manually install an older version on the software on them and it fixed the overheating. But the charge capacity never came back, it still only lasts 2 hours at most. For me since I'm not a power user that uses them all day it's fine. You need to keep the case very clean because if there is even a bit of dust or debris on the charging pads then good luck charging. Would I pay $300 for these headphones again? No, but if there was a good sale on them I would go ahead and purchase they aren't bad and the software issues have been fixed.
