So full disclosure - this is the first portable bluetooth speaker I've ever used. I've been wanting to grab one of these for some time, but just never liked what I saw from most manufacturers. It seems like the main selling points in this product category are RGB lighting effects, annoying levels of bass, and the ability to link hundreds of speakers together ... for some reason. This caught my eye because it's small, has a simple design (no RGB nonsense), has USB-C charging, and comes from a brand I trust. And yeah it's awesome, easily surpassing my expectations. So real quick aside from USB-C charging this speaker is also IPX7 water resistant, so it's perfect for taking it outside, to the beach, or using near a pool ... or even in the shower. Not like actually in the shower, but I tested it while taking a very hot shower with the speaker sitting on the sink counter - worked a charm even though it was completely covered in moisture. It's rated for 20 hours of battery life, but as always I'm not sure about that. I haven't used it for 20 hours, but I also haven't had to charge it yet after 4 days of use (estimated 13ish hours so far). In any event I'm happy with the battery. Bluetooth 5.0 is a nice feature as it should also increase battery life, but it's not really a feature that you're actively aware of while using it. It has a built-in mic as well, which works perfectly for calls if that's your thing. I checked it out and the sound quality is perfectly adequate for calls, but I can't imagine any situation in which I would take calls on this thing. Still nice to have if you have a family get-together and call up someone who couldn't make it. Oh ... I guess I just did imagine a use case for this ... anyway. Pairing is quick and simple, as it should be these days, and the soundcore app gives you plenty of options for customizing your sound profile. The default setting is the "signature" sound with "bass up" enabled if I recall correctly. I'm normally not a fan of any kind of bass boost setting, but it sounds great here. I've been doing all my audiobook and podcast listening on this speaker and the surprisingly deep bass brings a warmth and richness to spoken word content that I wasn't expecting. I'm impressed. Music fares just as well, but yeah that's where I do prefer to use another profile, or at the very least disable the bass up setting. There was also a firmware update that was very easy and quick. Much faster than updates for my other BT devices actually, just a minute or so from start to finish. Love it. So how does it sound? That's going to be pretty subjective as everybody has different tastes, but for me this thing is outstanding. As I already said spoken word content sounds fantastic with default settings, and music sounds equally good if you do a little bit of customizing. This speaker also gets much louder than I would've expected, though it does start to get distorted as you creep above 70% volume. I'm not a bass-head or someone that needs to listen to at high volumes, but even below that threshold it's plenty loud. I'm actually still surprised every time I start listening to something over the speaker. It's just so small! But the sound isn't. It's great. pros - great sound, long battery life, water resistant, USB-C charging (huzzah!), good EQ options and easy update through the app cons - I mean ... the charging cable that came with it is pretty worthless. But that's all I can think of. I can't imagine getting better performance in a BT speaker of this size AND at this price. It's incredible. Anker continues to bring their A-game to every product segment they get into. This one's great.

To be honest, I wasn't expecting much out of this speaker, and that was a big mistake considering I've never been let down by an Anker product. This compact speaker feels SOLID. Not heavy, just that it feels like it could take a beating and walk away virtually unscathed. In terms of power (battery life), it went all day long and into the next. I didn't even get to the low battery setting, but we had another event the next day, so I charged it to be safe. I think it could've went longer. Sound quality was impressive, again for the price point respectively. It's clarity was pretty solid, but turning it near max range does cause distortion. If you want a little more "umph" from the bass, back the speaker up into a corner or solid surface. It will make it a little deeper. The application could use some work and that's what dropped this one star for me. It's just not as finished as it could be with clunky controls for streaming music. All in all, this is a cool little speaker that we will pack away for our trips to the beach. I would recommend this speaker to friends and family.

I've amassed a small collection of wireless audio products and lately I've been quite impressed with the Anker brand. This Anker Soundcore Select 2 is the right blend of features and price. In the box, you get the speaker, wrist strap and a USB charging cable (but no charging brick). Since I already have an abundance of USB-A to USB-C cables that I'm actively using, the included USB charging cable just went into my box of extra cables. Charging is straightforward with an easy to understand LED indicator. Once charged, I turned it on with a quick press of the power button. Turning it off is a press and hold for about 3 seconds. I recently got Anker Soundcore headphones and you need to press and wait for the power on and off and it takes way longer than I think it should. I'm thankful Anker made the power on/off quicker and easier on this speaker. Bluetooth pairing was quick and easy. Playing music on the speaker works just as expected. I'm very pleased with the audio delivered by this speaker. Since I have a Bose Soundlink Micro handy, it was easy to compare the two. The Bose narrowly edges out the Anker Soundcore Select 2 speaker in terms of clarity and bass, but it was difficult for me to discern. If I didn't have the Bose speaker to directly compare to, I would not know the difference. The top of the speaker has power, volume, Bluetooth and a multi-function button stylized like the Soundcore icon. On one side is the USB-C port for charging and I'm pleased that you can charge and play at the same time. The opposite side contains a loop to tie the wrist strap onto. On the back is what I assume is a bass port. The speaker has a good heft to it and makes me think it can survive a reasonable drop. The Soundcore Select 2 has great battery life. I've been playing on and off for the past several days and I feel like the battery life is better than 20 hours. It's also much better than the paltry 6 hours I get from the Bose Micro speaker. After loading the Soundcore app for my phone, there was a firmware update ready. Firmware update was quick and easy. Within the app, I was able to switch to a different EQ preset and I was impressed that the sound is equal to the Bose. What I really like is that Anker has several curated playlists available to suit your needs. So you can just pick one and go. While I didn't get a chance to test it, I understand that I can chain up to 100 of these Anker Soundcore Select 2 speakers together to create a massive soundscape. This is something I’m very interested in trying out. I am very likely to pick up more of these speakers. Especially since they are half the price of the Bose speakers. I'm genuinely impressed with the sound, features and price of this Anker speaker.

For a few years, I had a solid portable Bluetooth speaker. It served me well when it came to providing music for social gatherings, listening to music or a podcast as I was doing backyard work, etc. But it sadly met its end when it took a hard fall off a table. I was reluctant to try another portable speaker because I’m stubborn and figured that there was nothing that could measure up to the sound performance of my other speaker. Well, now I realize that my previous speaker was immensely inferior compared to the Anker Soundcore Portable Speaker. Setup: The Soundcore is ready right out the box. I turned it on and my phone paired with it without issue. And it paired faster than any other Bluetooth device I’ve owned. I do recommend that you download the Soundcore app which has an immediate firmware update for the speaker. The app also allows you to customize the sound preference and equalizer along with having a Bass boost or setting a turn-off timer for the speaker. Sound: Music and sound are REALLY important to me. Sometimes earphones aren’t convenient when you are in an open area. But at the same time, I don’t want sound that comes off as if it’s being pushed through some cheap dollar store device. Right away I noticed the rich sound and the deep BASS that poured out of the 16W speakers. I like to run various sound tests when it comes to speakers and my earphones where I use Electronic Dance Music or an action movie like John Wick where there’s a variation of sounds. My ‘litmus sound test’ didn’t disappoint. I used it the first day to play music as I was working in the backyard for a few hours. Every beat was clear and each lyric was understandable and not muffled. I am more impressed with the Soundcore than my previous name-brand portable speaker. Design: This Soundcore speaker isn’t anything flashy. It’s a solid rectangle box with tactile buttons on the top. On the side is the port where you plug in the USB-C charging cable. The speaker comes with a USB-C cable but not a wall plug. I mention this in case anyone might think that a wall plug is missing. I feel a sense of possible relief knowing that this speaker is FULLY WATERPROOF. Not water resistant but WATERPROOF. This is great for when you have the speaker near a pool or on a boat, etc. and the speaker might fall in. Even if you’re not taking this speaker near water, you can feel that it can take possible falls and shrug them off. There’s also a wrist strap that comes with the speaker if you want to carry the speaker or attach it to your backpack or bike. I can link up to 100 other Soundcore speakers which sounds impressive for those large party environments. As I stated earlier, the Soundcore is ready right out of the box with its battery ready to go. I’ve played it for several hours already and haven’t needed to charge it. The box reads that there’s a 20-hour playtime. This provides long periods of entertainment before needing to worry if the battery is going to die. Distance: I also tested out the distance that I could go before the speaker disconnected. I would say an unofficial measurement was around 50ft. What I did notice was that as soon as I got back into the range of the Soundcore was that it automatically reconnected and resumed the music from where it had initially disconnected. My previous portable speaker couldn’t do that. Closing: I am extremely happy with this portable speaker and feel like it’s going to last me a very long time. There are so many uses for a portable speaker and whatever use I think of, I know it will sound fantastic knowing that it’s coming from a very durable design.

I have had a cheap JBL Bluetooth, waterproof speaker for a while now & have gotten a lot of use out of it so far. I was delighted to get a chance to try the Anker Soundcore Select 2 Portable Bluetooth Speaker. I already had the Anker software on both my iOS and Android phones. Unfortunately, they had sent me some instructions on making sure to update the firmware to the latest version but the software was not alerting me to this. I contacted Anker support, stated what my issue was & they updated my ticket in no time with things for me to try. By the following night, when I could try the troubleshooting steps, I launched Soundcore to find the new speaker's firmware update was indeed available to me now. I performed the firmware update, which only took a few minutes, and I was playing around with the speaker doing some testing. Wow, just WOW! This little speaker packs a punch & seriously puts my JBL to shame. My Android will do split audio so it will play to two seperate Bluetooth devices at once which I was lucky enough to have and play with for a bit so I could really hear the differences. The bass is deeper, the lows, mids & highs sound crystal clear, the vocals don't sound washed out like with my JBL, it sounds truly amazing. It was like I took an OEM speaker system out of my car and placed in a high end system-that is the difference this made. I am truly impressed. Even my sons, both of which love various types of music, played with the speaker for a while to test their luck with it. Each want me to get them one. One thing I liked to do is listen to Podcasts and Audiobooks while I am laying in bed, sometimes I just don't want to wear my AirPods and want to have it on my Bluetooth speaker & since switching to this Soundcore Select 2 I have been able to understand much more vs. that old Bluetooth speaker of mine. Whether in the shower, in the lake, out in the backyard, pretty much everywhere, this little Bluetooth speaker really packs a punch! Oh! Also, you can connect up to I think 100 of these together to have a huge array of speakers, that is pretty cool & definitely a nice feature to get people connected & talking about music, books, podcasts, etc together! Super cool! Definitely give this portable Bluetooth speaker a shot if you need one-you won't be disappointed that you did!

    Decent Sound, Solid Build

So in the world of portable bluetooth speakers we have many choices. Should Anker’s Soundcore 2 be on the consideration list? Yes, Probably one of the best features is the solid, rugged build. This speaker is durable AND waterproof (IP17). Perfect for having poolside or lakeside, or at the backyard BBQ. No worries that if it falls to the ground or is knocked off into the water that you’ve ruined your device. The rubber-like black outer shell is durable, but man oh man is this thing a fingerprint magnet. If you’re looking for stylish and polished this is not going to be the one for you. It picks up every smudge from being held. With that said, it really isn’t marketed for an aesthetic centerpiece. It is meant to be portable, and as such it will be handled and moved. Battery life is great. You’ll get hours of play out of this speaker. We easily used this for two days, about 8 hours per day before charging. Even then it was still going strong. Charging is quick and easy with the included USB cable, and you can use the speaker while charging. There is the ability to connect multiple Soundcore 2 speakers together in what Anker is calling partycast. Sounds will sync and play through all devices. I can see some use cases for this, but it is more of a gimmick for me. If I want more sound I’ll buy a bigger speaker. But - if you want to spread the same music around say the front yard and back yard, or across a large area, it does have a use case there. Speaking of sound, I found it to be average. You’re not going to impress the audiophiles in your group. Bass boost actually produces a better sound than without it. Otherwise there is a tin-like reverb that really degrades the audio. But again, for what this is designed for, you will get decent sound, as well as significant volume output. This thing will get loud! So, I’m not overly impressed with the output, but it is far from the worst out there. Overall, given the portability, outstanding battery life, and durability of this speaker, I think it’s worth the current price point. Would I recommend to a friend? Possibly, but it would depend on their use case. If they want the most clear, pleasing-to-the-ear, audio experience - not so much. But if they want something that puts out decent audio, that’s rugged and can be bounced around, and they don’t have to charge it every few hours then yes, I would recommend.

I reccomended this speaker if you are looking for an inconspicuous portable speaker that punches above it's size in sound quality and volume. This little guy pumps out quite a lot of sound. Good bluetooth connectivity and simple pairing make for a pleasant first interaction. Anker has an app that allows you to change the EQ settings between a few presets or make your own custom EQ. I recommend changing from the default Signature EQ to the Balanced EQ for better sound clarity. Bass boost can also be toggled to the user's preference. While the bass is not table rattling it is definitely more than I was expecting out of a speaker this size. I am also a fan of the subdued looks, no RGB means that I can use it in a work environment and not attract unwanted attention to it or have it out in a park setting and be less likely to grow legs. I like that it uses a usb-c for charging, you'd think that would be a given in 2021 but sadly it's not and it's nice to see that Anker didn't try to save a half a cent and use old stock micro usb. Battery life has been excellent so far and I have yet to run down the battery past 50% during a normal day of use. The buttons take a bit more effort than you might expect to push but I'm actually OK with that as it means buttons won't inadvertently be pressed while in a bag or being handled. Very surprised overall by this speaker and it will continue to see a lot of use.
