I ended up with the communicator in a round about way which is to long to go into. Anyway it functions strictly as a speaker phone once paired with your cell phone. If you phone allows voice dialing then you can make calls from it. The communicator has all kinds of Star Trek sounds, and voices like Uhura, Spock, Kirk, etc., and makes all the right sounds when it is opened and closed. The unit matches the one on tv in all aspects except the FCC requires a little ID plate on the back. It charges from the magnetic charger/stand and battery life is pretty good. The Communicator is quite the conversation starter when I "whip it out" to answer a call. Once you get the hang of what all it will do via the instructions booklet, it's a breeze to operate. I like it.

This scratches my geek itch! Nooooo I'm not the type to dress up and carry this around, but I might just carry it out sometime and whip it out to answer an incoming call to see the reaction of others. Sound quality of the speaker is excellent, and it comes with all of the lights and sounds that you know. It will make an excellent addition to my man-cave's display cabinet

i bought the phaser at same time as this communicator and i am impressed with the build quality of both items. nice weight and feel to the items, and it come with a magnetic stand for display

My whole life, the TOS communicator has been my favorite prop and now I am pleased beyond measure that a real working model is in my hands. It works just like the one on the TV show indicates that it should. True, it is a blue-tooth device which means that it only works in conjunction with your phone or other blue-tooth device but that's okay because it doesn't require a separate subscription to anything. I love it, it is great quality, it sounds loud and clear. Others that I have spoken with over the communicator says it doesn't even sound like a speakerphone. I fully recommend it, however I do wish it had been a little less expensive. Next I hope to get the TOS phaser remote control..

This is a must have for any Star Trek fans. It works really good and is easy to setup and use. The sounds are cool. The communicator is very well built. Just an outstanding long overdue product.

Do you need this? Probably not, unless you are a hard-core Trekker. It is very well-made, comes in a nice case and with a great stand. It works well in everything it does. Really nice item.

For Star Trek fans, this replica of the original prop will bring back great memories. The construction quality is excellent and it looks just like the communicators used on the show. Adding to the experience is the blue tooth connectivity that enables this replica to be more than a “prop”. It will connect with your blue tooth phone and actually work as a communicator answering calls with the flip of the cover and ending them by closing the cover. There are also recordings from the original show built into the device that provide some nice nostalgia.

It is a great item to add to the collection if you're the world's biggest trekking. But pretty useless if not. It's a glorified sound clip sampler from the original show. Not great for answering phones. Can't make calls by itself. Looks great though. Too expensive and not enough features for the casual fan

Fantastic re-creation of the TOS communicator. It connected to my phone by Bluetooth with no problem. The sounds are authentication sound great!

I've searched high-and-low for Star Trek props over the years and this communicator from the Wand Company is amazing! It is a laser scanned replica of a show prop and it's functional. It works great as a bluetooth supplement for your mobile device to answer calls and stream music. Let's face it though, this gadget is all about showing off! Answering that important phone call in 23rd century style. However, don't expect privacy as it is speaker-phone only. The only negative is that the speaker is not as powerful or as loud as it could be.

The Star Trek Bluetooth Communicator is absolutely beautiful and a very faithful recreation of the original Star Trek communicator.

I was always surprised that this was never a flip phone style when they were popular. You can connect to Bluetooth devices. Speaker sounds great for size. Phone feature works but you do have to talk close to communicator. Instructions state this and say that it is to have the Trek experience.

I've always been a Star Trek fan and when I saw this replica communicator I had to have one! And when I found out that it was a fully functional BlueTooth phone accessory I was blown away! I would have bought it just as a prop - but this thing really rocks! The sound effects are great. The speaker sound is great. And it looks just like the original! If you like Star Trek - this is a great item to have! I carry mine every day. The charging cradle, display case and quality of the communicator is unparalleled!

If you're as big a Star Trek fan as I am you're probably going to buy this regardless of reviews. It's worth it just as a display piece. You probably won't find a more accurate reproduction of the classic TOS communicator. And the magnetic charger makes a great display stand. The Bluetooth works very well when paired with my Moto X Pure. Calls are clear and plenty loud. If you use speakerphone a lot for calls it would be good for you. Where it suffers is in the area of practicality.. It is a nuisance to carry two devices. It would be okay if the included pouch had a belt loop or clip, but it doesn't, so you have to put the communicator in a pocket. But that is fine. This is for the most part a novelty device that Star Trek fans will treasure whether they ever use it with their phone or not. I checked "Yes" for "I would recommend this to a friend," but I would add an asterisk specifying "a friend who is a big fan of Star Trek TOS."

The Wand Company Communicator Replica is perfection. I've loved Star Trek my entire life and wanted to be Captain Kirk when I was a kid. This replica looks so close to the real thing and it's bluetooth enabled to make & receive calls. (insert mic drop here).

I gave this to my boyfriend for Christmas. He's a Star Trek fan so I knew he would get a kick out of this. It's really awesome a mans toy lol.. I even liked it and got excited that when he unwrapped it I was ready to hook it up myself :) The speaker is clear and connects to your mobile phone instantly. I love that it has a stand where it charges and connects from the back magnetically just like a Apple Watch. I would definitely recommend anyone who's a Star Trek fan to own one.
