Great keyboard with a lot of setting options. Comes with an app installation where you can adjust everything. Smooth clicks, but sound wise 7/10, with 10 being the loudest.

I purchased this keyboard for my son to use with an old laptop for his gaming. He loves the key feel, tenkeyless design and the lighting. I decided on this one mainly due to the waterproofing feature and the quality for the price I paid. Steelseries has created an affordable and quality keyboard that I highly recommend.

The SteelSeries Apex 3 is a budget-friendly gaming keyboard that offers a range of features and functionality. While it may not have all the bells and whistles of its higher-end counterparts, it still manages to provide a solid gaming experience at an affordable price point. In this review, we will take a closer look at the key aspects of the Apex 3.
Design and Build Quality:
The Apex 3 has a sleek and minimalistic design, featuring a full-sized layout with a standard key arrangement. It has a sturdy build quality with a matte black plastic frame that feels durable and solid. The keycaps are made of ABS plastic, which is decent but not as premium as PBT keycaps. The keyboard also has an integrated wrist rest, providing a comfortable typing and gaming experience.
Key Switches and Typing Experience:
The Apex 3 utilizes SteelSeries' proprietary membrane switches. While these switches lack the tactile feedback and responsiveness of mechanical switches, they are fairly quiet and have a satisfying key press. The keys require a moderate amount of force to actuate, which can be comfortable for typing. However, for gamers who prefer the quick actuation and distinct feel of mechanical switches, the membrane switches might feel lacking.
RGB Lighting and Customization:
One of the standout features of the Apex 3 is its dynamic RGB lighting. Each key is individually backlit, allowing for a wide range of lighting effects and customization options. SteelSeries Engine software enables users to create and customize their own lighting profiles, which can sync with other SteelSeries peripherals. The lighting effects are vibrant and visually appealing, adding a nice aesthetic touch to any gaming setup.
Water and Dust Resistance:
One of the key selling points of the Apex 3 is its water and dust resistance, thanks to an IP32 rating. This feature provides a level of durability and protection against accidental spills, which is particularly useful for gamers who enjoy snacking or drinking while gaming. The keyboard is built to withstand minor liquid spills and is easy to clean, making it a practical choice for those seeking longevity in their peripherals.
Additional Features:
The Apex 3 includes a dedicated multimedia control wheel and dedicated media keys, allowing users to conveniently adjust volume and media playback without having to leave their game or application. It also features a USB passthrough, enabling users to connect additional USB devices directly to the keyboard.
Conclusion:
The SteelSeries Apex 3 is an affordable gaming keyboard that offers a good balance between performance and price. While it may lack the mechanical switches and premium build quality of higher-end options, it compensates with water and dust resistance, dynamic RGB lighting, and additional features. If you're a budget-conscious gamer or someone who values spill resistance and customizable lighting effects, the Apex 3 could be a worthwhile choice. However, if you prioritize mechanical switches and a more tactile typing experience, you may want to consider higher-end alternatives.

When it comes to keyboards, I’ve run full size, mini and then this one! Depending on what kind of game you’re playing has dictated which keyboard I use. This keyboard is better than any of the other ones I’ve used, easy to use, download the Steel Series app and you can control color schemes and such. For me, I will not switch to another keyboard anytime soon, but that’s a personal preference.

I bought this as a temporary keyboard to replace my old damaged apex pro. So far I am really liking it. The typing is very quiet & it feels more premium than you would think a $40 keyboard would be.

Got this for my son's PC I built him. It has all the RGB goodness you'd expect from a more expensive keyboard but at a much better price. And I mean who doesn't like to save money? Not as loud as a mechanical keyboard.

I wanted a TKL keyboard and I needed it to be quiet. This is not as crisp as a mechanical keyboard, but it is pretty quiet which was one of the main attractions. I also wanted a backlit keyboard, and that is what I got. The lighting selections aren't great and I did mess around with the software a bit. But I got bored with that and just leave as it is out of the box.
Overall, not bad at all! Especailly for the price. I am a gamer, and I haven't noticed anything weird about it all. One feature I was wanting that this lacks is a rotary knob or roller for sound volume adjustment. This isn't a deal breaker it was just something I was looking for.
The included software could be better. I found it clunky and unusable, so I don't use it.
